I took offense at that too, but I chose to ignore it in favor of the issue of the post.

I figured if we made a big deal of that one word the focus would be taken off the real issue.

Ignore my post. I finally found the post on how to do this. nm

No offense, but your post didn't make any sense whatsoever.
Maybe you didn't explain it right, but I read and re-read and don't understand a thing you just said.
Ignore that post as best you can
I think it's the same 'ethnic' (Indian?) troll that keeps spamming up all the threads trying to antagonize and provoke people. It's all over the main board, company board and MQ board.

Perhaps if we all ignore it, it will float away to whatever continent it came from.
Well, it is called the World Wide Web! Sorry, your post made me laugh! No offense... but duh! nm

Please ignore the above post. I messed up.
I work as an editor for SS. I had problem getting my lines in every day and for a while was doing 1890+ in 4-5 hours. However, after they changed my pay to w/o spaces at their whim (as I had been paid for spaces for the first 4 months I worked there), I just decided I did not care and I do just enough to get 945 in my 4 hours. They are constantly wanting extra help in editing, which I used to pitch in and help as well, but now I don't simply because of the pay change.

cherrypicking co-worker issue (meant to post it on this board instead of MQ board) sm...

I need opinions please...I work on a very small account with just a handful of ladies.  Because of the nature of the software (trying not to get too specific here) we can see who is working online and what reports they are working on in real-time...

We have one cherrypicker on the account.  Instead of using FIFO method, she retrieves the reports by author ID - usually picking the better dictators of course.  She knows I busted her and she did admit to it in on our work e-mail (not too bright) which I am saving just in case she gets out of hand - so far I'm still able to make money since really most of the dictators aren't bad.

But every night it's starting to wear on me since she's screwing up turnaround time.  I don't really want to cause a big uproar being that it is such a small account and I need to work with her almost every night usually one on one.

What would you all do?  I want to handle this as delicate and professional as possible because we can't really afford to lose anyone on this account.  In other words, I refuse to stoop to her level by cherrypicking right back.

My boss has asked me several times why so-and-so does so much more than I do...I just bite my lip at that point but one of these days I think I might explode and just open up a can of worms....

Is this a semantics issue or is it a you versus frustrated issue?
Which ever it is, if your feeling superior on a board makes your day go on ahead. I am sure frustrated knows what she is doing and now so does her boss. I am also sure that in the future frustrated with think twice about how she words every sentence perfectly so that you can perceive it correctly. After all, that is what she would rather be doing than kissing her little daughter. NOT.
Good for you frustrated, for handling it in a professional manner. For the other MTs on here who need to get a life, well, maybe they shouldn't bother since feeling superior here seems to suit well. JMHO.
It isn't a Smartype issue it is a Word issue
On the Word toolbar at the top, click on Tools, then Autocorrect, then check the box that says "capitalize first letter of sentence."  That will do it for you.

You'd be doing him a favor as well.
By staying, you are an enabler. IN other words, you don't want anything to change. In past times, such as with his parents, there was not information (Oprah shows, tons of magazine articles) available to let people know that staying and bandaides do nothing but allow escalation of out-of-control anger. It's time everyone grew up in that house. Sure, it is scary making a move out of the house but if you both love each other, you'll be back together in a year or two. The problem here is three children who deserve a fresh slate so they can go on to create happy homes without being tainted by their role models. When you are quite old and need your kids to be there (and you will), that is when this sacrifice of comfort (if you want to call it that) will pay off.
You probably did her a favor, Tatum.
If she can't handle transcription, she should get out and seek other work. We all have to manage our own careers. Good riddance to her, and good luck to you.
Do yourself a favor & save yourself a ton
of grief. Get a reputable real estate agent and don't screw with these FSBO agents.  I promise that all they will do is take your money and won't really WORK to sell your house. That's the difference.  A REPUTABLE agent will work their butts off to sell your house.
So you are in favor of training them to take your job?
    nm
Please do this industry a favor sm
CHARGE WHAT YOU ARE WORTH AND NOT A PENNY LESS!

I mean it. The last person I talked to about this has her own company. Clinics she charges 14 to 18 cents a line, depending on the difficulty and the logistics of the office. Nope, does not include printing or tapes, they have to call in, period.

For hospitals, she charges 22 to 26 cents a line and she gets it. She usually types as many of the OP notes as she has time for and doesn't sub them out because she likes that. Any lines she does herself goes into the corporation at 100% and she pays herself a salary for all her work, not by the line for MTing she does. She has 20 yrs of experience, all of it in acute care.

She says, DO NOT sell your skills short. Don't try to undercut someone to get the job. Remind these people that they get what they pay for and deliver on every promise, but don't make promises you can't deliver on 99.5% of the time. Incorporating is good, better than not and I know all of the reasons behind that too.

    I wish you every luck.
Yes--if they get things going in our favor.
Everybody complains and complains and is so reluctant to act at all.  How many have still not signed the petition or written your congressman or newspaper?  How many complain but don't try to be a part of the solution?  It's free for now so why not?
Chill out ms. ???. If you can't be pleasant do us all a favor

and keep your hands off the keyboard.  Why are so you so dang miserable anyway?

The AAMT is IN FAVOR of offshoring, not against it...do you ever get out of the house?

Add me to the people who favor at-home work. sm
There really are a few companies an MT can count on for reasonably good benefits.

As someone who has no children, no husband, boyfriend, or parents, if you have what I don't, CHERISH IT! The people you love are far more important than PTO! Enjoy the beautiful office your husband made for you. It obviously was done with love. You're a very fortunate woman.

Don't forget to count your blessings every day!
I'm in favor of showers for all pregnancies/babies
Diapers and supplies are always needed regardless of which pregnancy it is. Also, babies are so wonderful; I love celebrating them (and their moms) with baby showers!
online testing seems to favor BOS2 but..
my hospital used BOS3. I failed a test recently because I used BOS3 so you can't win.
Thanks for input. There were so many to chose from..sm
I hate to pay that much money though but I really would like this account.
    I chose transcription because

I always wanted to work in the healthcare field, but did not necissarily want to be a nurse or doctor.  I can handle the blood and guts....that really doesn't bother me one bit.  It's the vomit that I can't take.  Have a major problem with it.  So, in being a transcriptionist, I get to work in the medical field and learn a lot.  I get to type a lot...which I love to do.  I get to work from home, which is great because I have a son and I can be here when he gets home from school.  I am a fairly shy/introverted person, so this job works wonderful for me because I can do it from my home and do not have to deal with people face-to-face every day.  I put in many years of working retail, customer service, and waitressing.  Then, I finally decided to go to school for this.  I have been happy ever since.

That's why I chose not to take them at all anymore. (s/m)
That way no one's feelings get hurt. I can always buy my OWN clothing, and if I have something I no longer wear the other friend might want, I can still give that to her, instead.
    I deliberately chose MT...sm

I was working as a paramedic and knew if I worked at home as an MT I could still take calls. My training was medical, from my paramedic courses. Ended up working in house first though, and at various places such as the Coroner's office. I also worked as a medical assistant and did transcription on the side. I ended up getting a small account of my own and when my daughter was born, I decided to go for completely home-based work. Ended up actually owning my own MTSO and making very good money. It was the best thing in the world to be home with my kids but after watching the field very closely, I've decided to go back to school. I've got one year left in a Bachelor's of Nursing program. I'm in school full time but since I only have to run my company to get a salary, I'm managing it. My plans are to go on to a Master's so I can be an advanced practice nurse. Looking back -- I still would have done it this way. I actually enrolled in nursing school 20 years ago but dropped out due to health reasons. I'm mostly glad I was home with my kids and had the opportunity to make a bunch of money to sock away so I had choices...like school now.

I chose it because it's about the only thing a non-
I would suck at front-office work, sales, customer service, teaching, nursing, etc. or else I would've left MT for one of those long ago.

I understand. I was not familiar until today that AHDI is the former AAMT. I have not read an AAMT publication in years. I don't particularly like their "core" values, politics etc. I was just doing the CMT thing for myself as well as other schooling/certifications. My way of coming back into the real world after a very devastating illness!

    Don't worry about it really.

    Take care
    No offense but -
With all due respect, being able to stay home with one's children is NOT a perfect reason to become an MT. I believe there are certain personality characteristics, IMO, that one must have in order to be successful in this industry.

~First of all, in order to be a *successful* MT, one must have not only an excellent grasp of the English language, both written and spoken, but also an 'ear' for picking up and deciphering various other native tongues as well.

~On top of that, one must have above-average instincts and inherent skills for research, as this career requires not simply typing what you think you hear, but many times doing extensive investigation to make sure you are indeed hearing correctly.

~An excellent memory; the ability to recall the spelling of a medication or a syndrome or a genetic disorder without having to look it up each time it is encountered is invaluable in this field.

~Last but definitely not least, I feel in order to be successful in this field, one must have a keen interest in the medical field. These aren't simply words we're transcribing; they're legal medical documents. If one does not have a love of the medical field and an enjoyment of learning something new almost daily, this is NOT an appropriate career.

I'm sorry, but with all due respect, you choosing to enter a field simply to stay home with the kiddies is not enough. Without the necessary drive and willingness to learn, one is destined for failure. Unfortunately, it sounds as if perhaps you already have failed.

Please overlook any typos; I've been working 10 hours and my dinner is awaiting me :-)
It's a small doctor's office so I am doing it as a favor for a mutual friend....
Nice to do something different every now and then.

I'm sure they all are great schools, but I chose CS.
I am also working right now typing acute care.  I was hired before I graduated, so now I'm trying to finish the course in my spare time.  Andrews and M-Tec are great schools, I am sure, and any school you choose would be a good choice.  Good luck!
I didn't like what settings I chose (sm)
using Tonks directions so I tried changing back to the original settings and had a bit of trouble regaining them. Just a heads up for anyone wanting to try changing your settings using the wizard. You might create a system restore point before you make any changes so you can easily restore your old settings if need be.

    I chose HPI-SUM over At-Home Professions sm

When I trained 13 yrs ago.  I looked at them both.  I ordered the first packet of AHP and I didn't like the way it was presented and sent them back because I could get my money back within a certain time.  I really liked the HPI-SUM program syllabus.  I liked it particularly because it seemed like more work and was harder.  I knew that this job could not possibly as simple it was presented with AHP and I was right.

I never have worked in house for anyone. I have been at home for 12+ years and I do quite well with accuracy, speed and scope of knowledge.  Of course, there are still a lot of things I don't know and I'll learn a lot of them over time, I hope.  Which brings me to the last point, that being no program is really going to prepare you for this job and even with training, there is no guarantee you'll ever be able to make a living at it.  AAMT (or whatever they call themselves today) stated that something like $26K was the average yearly wage for an MT.  Given that many of us do ohhh so much better than that, there have to be plenty who don't come near that figure.  HPI-SUM stated in their packet that 60% of the people who complete their course will not be successful MTs and I have heard that figure about other courses too. Success for me means making a full time income for full time work at around the $25K a year mark (though I do better, that was my goal then).  I personally know 5 other MTs who don't make $12K a year for full time work, that is not success when every one of them has been an MT for 5+ years.

However...there is no reason you are not part of that 40% who WILL succeed!  I was.

that's hilarious! No offense, of course!
Sounds like something I would do... I actually did LOL!
No offense, but couldn't you have used
of your own? You could get one from another company, I'm sure, but would it reflect the information you need to know?

For example, if you need orthopedic MTs versus ophthalmologic MTs, asking which is correct in Tenon versus tenon or sub-Tenon verus subtenon would be important and might not be on a test you pull from someone else.

I could be wrong, but I'm wondering if you haven't had to do much testing personally that you wouldn't know what you would want in your own test??
No offense meant, but how do you know this? Again, I am not s/m
trying to be rude--this is an honest question. Is there someone we can read about these differences (production-based versus other)? Thanks in advance.

They offered a job.  They are not producing the goods.  They don't return phone calls and they don't have any policy manuals for employees or contractors.

There is no other way to ask the question.  They brought us to this place through their misrepresentation of facts.  The fact is they offered work.  So why shouldn't they be looked at for unethical work practices?  I was looking for a job, they offered one.  It's not my responsibility now to go look for another job.  They need to reply as to why there is no work.
