I use Abacus; however, it is an older version. Don't know if it has been upgraded. It is free.

Abacus is not free. It is $20 but worth it. You can download a trial version free which does not h
I have used this for years and have compared to Sylvan, Word, and MP Count, etc. When you have it set to count every character, bold, shift, tab, etc. It is great and always higher than the others. Now if you are wanting gross lines like in Word then no it won't be as high because Word counts blanks lines and Abacus counts a line only if there is a character on it. There is also two places to check for it to count the Headers/Footers. If you have the FREE version then it must be the trial or a very old version so you don't have all the features and functions.
Use older version
Thanks Renee.  I have already uninstalled and reinstalled so many different versions and none of them work.  I tried to convert the .dss file using that convert program, I forget what it is called, it's free from NCH, but it wouldn't convert it.  But I will try it again and let you know what happens.  Thanks again for your ideas.
I have an older version of QuickLook so the
newer meds aren't included.  I always go to RxList first, but lots of times find that even drugs that are a year old aren't included and I have to go to Google.
My version is an 8-SR2. I guess maybe that is older than yours? nm
nm
I have an older version of word, so
I type 65- and then use Expander yo for year-old and also have yobf, yowf (black female, white female), etc.
Is Abacus still free? nm

older version Emdat Inscribe
after receiving the info on here, I decided that I wanted to KEEP Emdat Inscribe 4.3.202. (It can still be downloaded and my company has not told us to upgrade.) If I DO upgrade to the newest, which is 4.9 I think...are you saying that the Infinity pedal will work with the newest Emdat by configuring the pedal? I've done that in the past, but would you mind sending the process in case I do have to upgrade. I wish they'd leave things as they are.
I use Abacus and love it. Free too! nm

You can download abacus free. You just have
to delete this line that says: Buy me so you can get rid of this annoying line (or something like that). It counts your lines for you and then creates an invoice. Looks professional. Hope this helps.
I love ST. Older Version Shortcut for SBlocks-sm
I have the original version too, not Stedmans. It is the easiest Expander to use. I have tried others and too much to remember. ST is as simple as it gets.

Anyway, for saving a SmartBlock, I highlight the text, then do ALT+Y+B. The save box opens, and I tab once to name it, then tab to put a description, then enter. It's saved.

I have normals saved like this. For example, I would name an H&P for Doctor Smith "hpsmith" - in ST, I only have to type "hpsm" and "hpsmith" comes on the SmartLine, hit enter, and it's on the screen.
Use Abacus. You can download for free. Very accurate. nm

Love my Abacus too! Awesome free program! nm

There is a free download line counter called Abacus and I have used
that program to count my lines, which works real well.  I just always used a program to do it.  It's pretty user friendly and you can try it for free and see if you like it.
I used the free version..nm
nm
I had the free version at first,, probably 7.0 or 7.5. sm
When my computer went belly up last fall, my tech guy put on the paid version of 8.5. The other version just did not seem very user friendly. I could never get from point A to point B without a bunch of hassle, I could never figure out the updates etc. This just does what it is supposed to and runs in the background. It is much easier to set up to do auto scans. The updating is done automatically. You also have more options on how to dispose of your trojans, etc. I really can't say for sure one thing or another that I like more or less about it, it is just my impression.

Hope this helps.
You can download a trial version free.

Free trial version, 20 bucks to buy...(sm)

I use the Abacus line counter. They have a trial version which is free and gives you accurate line counts, or you can buy it for $20. Here's the link: http://www.theabacus.biz

HATE IT. Use the free version, wouldn't pay
for it.
Works ok, but you get what you pay for. I think there is a free trial version. Not nearly as good

I use ShortCut. You can download a free demo version at sylvansoft.com. nm

When I upgraded, sm.
When I upgraded, I had a tech do it. YOu have to uninstall this and that and then reinstall after upgrading. It appeared to me to be kinda touchy. So, it's possible these won't work afterwards. I'd check with a tech. Good luck!
I upgraded RAM from 256 to 1 gig this summer for only about
$50 at Best Buy.  Maybe $30.  And they installed it for me.  The $$ included the installation.  Just a FYI
I like ChartMatrix now that it's been upgraded. sm
Can use Shorthand, can access past reports, keeps a real-time line count. Very MT friendly.
Vista did this to me and I upgraded IE
I got the same message about the Internet Explorer encountering a problem. I was not able to do anything except close the window. After I lost some jobs on Bayscribe a few times I got annoyed and upgraded to IE 8. I haven't had any more problems yet, but I have only had IE 8 for a little over a week. If you have tried everything else mentioned to fix the problem and it has not worked you should just upgrade.
Rockin' have you been upgraded to ExEditor yet?
I just upgraded last week. Absolutely love it. All commands are the same whether it is a speech job or a non-speech job. They changed some of the commands to use the the control key instead of alt, but that took about 2 reports and I had adjusted. It really is a great program. There many things that I said in EXSpeech like "I wished the program did this....." Well now it does. It is fabulous and I am very pleased!!
They're still at version 7 and version 8 is supposed to come out this Fall, which may be compatib

Before I upgraded, Stedman's worked-when you load the CD--sm
you are asked where you want it to load to, just choose Word 95.
Upgraded software in place. Sorry for the inconvenience of outage, but

this software offers more features and is up to date as compared to the previous software used.  Enjoy!

Hurricane Rita just upgraded to Category 5 with winds of 165 mph
I hope everyone from TX stays safe. Learn from Katrina.
Does anyone like the new Healthgrade website after they upgraded - it only takes 4 or 5 steps to

This is why I uploaded the 4.15 version. It's a previous version

Works is a dumbed down version of Word and Excel. You get the full version of Word in the Suite.
The Works Suite is a cheaper way of getting a full version of Word if you don't want or need the other applications in Office.
Free? As in, free trial? Otherwise, I don't think you'll find a spellcheck software that's

Check out the free demo of MTStars FlashType. It's free for 7 days.
Then, if you like it, you can purchase it for $59.95.  See link below.
If it's a retail version you can. If it's an OEM version, you can't.

try Abacus
It's also free.
abacus
works well and also does daily counts, invoicing too!
I believe Abacus?

abacus
Thanks.  Does it count "differently" than Word?  What is the web site, abacus.com?  I will try it.
Can anyone help me with Abacus? SM
I'm trying to use it for the first time.  I opened the program and see the drives listed at the upper left.  However, I need to get into My Documents and go from there, and it's not listed there.  I have A, C, D, and E drives.  Even if I click on C, I don't get a choice of My Documents.  Has this ever happened to anyone else?  What am I missing here?
Try Abacus..
It gives you a free trial version, so you can see if you like it.. Not sure of the website, just search abacus line counter.
abacus

thank you...I really like the program and did not want to change it.

I use Abacus. sm

Abacus comes with a free trial and costs around $20. It is customizable, counts in batches and I have found it to be a great tool. I consider a line to be 65 characters with spaces, including tabs, returns and header/footers. I do not count formatting or caps. Hope this helps.

Abacus
Anyone know if there is a free trial period on this software?  Thanks.
I also use Abacus (about $20).
In PA I am required to charge sales tax and I can't add that in Abacus, but I do use it to create the line counts that I then transfer to Quicken for invoicing.
Abacus.

Yes, I lost mine. I upgraded the Office 2000 package to Office 2003. sm
I have over 2000 autocorrect entries and lost them all as well as my supplemental dictionary for my Stedman's spellcheck. Lots of grief!

Maybe you will be lucky and not lose anything. Good luck to you.
Does MedPen or Abacus do this, anyone? nm
