Didn't take long at all, maybe a day or two. I love my Gold Touch.

Do you have a chair that you can adjust the height? nm
.
Gold touch keyboards
I have had mine for about a year now and I will never use any other kind.  The touch on these keyboards are wonderful!  You can't go wrong with a Gold touch.
Something else about the Gold Touch.(Should I be getting a kick back from them?)
Something else about the Gold Touch.  I have my chair positioned so hands do not point up or down. I try to keep them as neutral as possible.  I also make sure my arms are resting on the armrests, so I am not using any strain/tension to keep them in place and even. I rest one arm on a little pillow wedged at my side since my short little arms don't rest on the arm rests in a comfortable position for me.  Then I fly.  I hardly have to move my hands at all, the fingers do the typing, so to speak. lol.
I'm 48. I use to blog, to stay in touch with
others with similar interests, to share pictures, to keep an eye on what my older teens and their friends are doing (yes, they know and comment me all the time). Try it. You might just discover that you might gain an appreciation for something new.
Gold touch makes a keyboard without number pad. Also the evoluent keyboard has the number pad on th
It is a very small keyboard and has laptop keys which are very quiet and light to the touch.  Almost no noise.
I love the Kinesis Classic-softest touch! (nm)

No...I actually love VR/ASR...easy on my hands
.
Oh you will love being an MT! Stay home,
xx
How soft is the touch, is it a muffled sound (microsoft used to make a very soft touch keyboard.
You can't buy it anymore and I hate the clacky ones. I think a really soft one sounds muffled when you hit the key. Thanks
There is a seat for every butt, there is the
"one" for everyone, you just have to find them or they have to find you. I believe there is a soulmate out there for everyone.

I have mine!
Are you looking for the one where the seat raises up?

Our local Wal-Mart sells them for about $400.00, but they are kind of small. I know you said your mom was short, but if she is wide too the Wal-Mart one wouldn't be comfortable.   If you have a local medical supply company they would probably have them, or the info where you can order them.   I wouldn't get one that is fabric in case of accidents.

I'm 4'11" and I have trouble with recliners too.  I have to have them where they have the lever on the side to raise and lower the foot rest.

The seat in my Blazer

I wish I could get a chair like that!  Adjustable back support, an arm rest when you feel like it...

Right know I have a crap chair but I sit on pillows and I find it helps my bum from going numb.  Good luck!

I need a seat belt some days sm
I tend to take a break about every hour to hour and a half. I am bad, but it helps because I get stiff if I don't move often enough.

My boss suggested a seat belt last week. Yeah, there is an idea. Of an 8-hour day, I rarely manage more then 5 hours of actual typing time, but I do get my lines in. If I would sit better, I'd make more money...then I'd owe Uncle Sam more and I'd still be broke.

I'll take my breaks.

Oh and I work 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. at least that is my set hours. I am usually still lurking and working by 7 p.m. because I have to do every OP note that shows up, it is my job and they don't always get it done on time.
Actually it is the height of human
We are poisoning the earth and ourselves. Nature is amazing in her resilience, but do you know how long it takes the ecosystem to recover from fires and floods? Did you know that fire retardant has been found in human breast milk? What about the amount of pesticides and chemicals in the bloodstreams of infants and children? Denial is the only thing scarier than that. Do the research, it will open your eyes.
height of desk
But aren't most hotel desks sort of high? That is what I was wondering.  It does seem like a convenient options.  My husband travels a lot, and once the kids are both in college, I would like to start going with him some.
chair height
Yes, I have a chair with adjustable height.  I have not tried moving it up or down yet.  Just tried working today with a firm pillow under my right arm.  I have a wireless keyboard and mouse to I am not hitting the keys hard at all.  I am noticing when I type, my left arm is extended straight out for the most part, but my right elbow is angle a bit out to the right.  When I type I can feel the muscles working up and down my right arm, so I know this must be causing friction on my elbow.  I am applying IcyHot as often as I can and that does seem to help, plus flexing my arm as much as I can in between typing.  It hurts right on the bone of my elbow, even to touch it.......so sore!!!
My PT recommended changing the height sm
and the position of the chair a few times a day, getting up and walking around q hour, etc. Sitting for prolonged periods as we do causes us to "freeze" and get into trouble with aches and pains. It really does help to move around a bit.

Height of hurricane season is Aug-Oct. (SM)
A friend booked a FL vacation during September. Told her don't do it.  She still did.  She had to cancel the entire vacation and "could not believe a hurricane hit."  I always told family/friends to never go anywhere in the Atlantic, Gulf, FL, islands during hurricane season but they book it anyway because it's cheaper, then they complain about hurricanes ruined their plans.  DUH!
Keyboard height issues

It seems my keyboard is just a bit too high (or my chair is just a bit too low), as I am developing wrist extensor problems and ending up with a weak right hand, making it difficult to type.  (I have been massaging it, but can't keep on top of it.)

I tried putting the keyboard on my lap, which really helped my arms but caused more trouble with my legs (I have circulatory problems in my legs).  I also tried sitting on a pillow to boost me up higher, which, for some reason, also caused more trouble with my legs.

I have my keyboard on a tray below my desk and my chair at the highest it can go. - Any other ideas out there?  (Can't afford one of those cool desks where you can sort of recline and no husband to rig up something for me.)

Thanks for any tips!

baking powder or soda for height...nm

I like a chair with arms, deep seat and high back (sm)
so I bought a leather chair from Costco about a year ago and have never regretted it.  Think it is made by Lane.  It was a little expensive but since I'm in it for hours a day - sometimes 12 - I figure it was an important investment... plus it is so good looking we often wheel into other parts of house when we need extra seating :)
Make sure chair is at right height so you dont have to angle
l
Can anybody recommend a good seat cushion for my office chair? I'm having a lot of problems SM
with numbness in my tailbone, and left buttock with tingling down into my left leg and foot.  I can't afford a new chair right now as I just bought this one six months ago.  I have to get up and stretch out and walk around quite often during the day and its cutting into my production.
My 8-year-old threw up on the way home from family celebration Christmas Eve, all over the back seat

Then threw up approximately every hour from 10:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. Christmas morning.  Not the Christmas I had planned, up cleaning bodily fluids all night.  Somehow Santa managed to come overnight, too.  My husband, me and the 2-year-old didn't get the bug until last night, it's vicious!  Hopefully that's all over now and we can enjoy the rest of our vacation!

took me a while to adjust. sm

It took me a while to get situated and then along came the summer months and my schedule got totally out of whack.  No school and the kids are home, etc., etc.

I have 2 accounts, one local and one national.  Unfortunately the national requires a 3 hour per day schedule (5 day week with one day a weekend), which really stinks, but what can you do?  My local only wants 24 hour turnaround and it's up to me when I do it, as long as it is back within 24 hours.

What I did was change my national hours to earlier morning, due to no preparation for school, and then I can get it done in case I want to go do something with the kids (they're older and are still getting the "winkies" out of their eyes at 10:00 a.m. when I finish).  If it's a really great day and I want to go sit by the pool and just relax and play, my local stuff waits until after dinner.  The kids understand the summer "trade off" and when cold weather and school starts again, I'll just work all day while they are in school and finish up affter they go to bed.

This is my very first summer doing this at home full time.  I got really, really lazy at first but finally just had to kick myself in the behind when the bills started getting behind.

Just passing thru tonight, but my kids are gone for a couple of hours with some friends, so I need to go kick behind and get caught up.

Can't adjust
Don't feel bad! I also worked for a small company and spent half my time looking up addresses for doctors I never heard of through their HUGE document they gave me to look at! I had typed orthopedics for years and could do this in my sleep. Like you, I spent three-fourths of my time looking up names only to type a few lines here a there. One four day period, I ended up making $79.20! Now that's what I call getting rich!!! I worked for a private company, salaried employee, for years, retired and wanted to do work again on a part-time basis. Most of it is a joke. Think I'll go to Joann Fabrics and work or even Burger King! Hey, they even give you benefits!!! Like you, I got totally frustrated with the whole process. No wonder companies like to pay 8 cents or so a line; they know they won't have to pay out much for little reports. Good Luck!
It should adjust itself sm
but you can adjust screen setting size by right clicking on your desk top, go down to properties, and then over to settings.  There is an option for screen resolution size that can make the appearance of the screen larger, smaller, etc.  Typically for the larger screens you want the higher resolutions.  You'll love having a bigger monitor.
Laplink Gold?
Did you have to buy Laplink Gold?
Whirlpool Gold
I have the stove, refrigerator and dishwaher all.  They have a good warranty and a high consumer satisfaction rating.  If you have a Lowe's or Best Buy in your area, try those two.  Either will match the other price and beat it by 10%.
You are 100% correct - It's the GOLD one...sm
I thought it was 85 pages long *L* and I thought the one I bought not 2 years ago was the ONLY second edition....it came with a CD also.  *S*  Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Solid Gold . . . nm

I 2nd that. Slycount Gold.

If they use Sylvan Gold, you can ..sm
www.sylvansoft.com - You can get a 30-day free trial and you can count your documents there to get your line counts. You will have to check with the MTSO to find out the counting parameters to set it up, like whether they count any formatting changes, headers/footers, etc., but it's real easy to set up and use. I've used it for years. I tried other line counting programs, but Sylvan always gave me higher count than others. It's user friendly, too, so I just stuck with it.

Once you download the free trial (find out which version they use before downloading), then when you get their subscriber info (assuming they are letting you use their subscription), you can just put in the authorization no. and all, and you should be good to go.
Sure, I even welcome it. They can adjust certain things sm
to your liking (say, the placement of your working page on your desktop, etc.)
Old MT can't adjust to National sm
I am so very aggravated.  I started with a medium sized national about a month ago....and today I counted my lines.   I made $30 for 7 days of aggravation and a big headache.   How am I supposed to make any money when I get a bunch of choppy little reports, followed by a letter - have to spent 15 minutes or so searching through a big database for what sounds like what doc is saying for a name.  Then each file gets saved individually, followed by the number of the voice file, and the doctors name.   If I have any questions, I must notify QA and see if they can help figure out the problem, but must put # and place in sound file in email, wait for a response, then fill in the blank.   Needless to say, I've had it.....I am a good transcriptionist, but I can't get ahead this way, spending all my time on searching up addresses...and other than a few piddly reports, the rest is letters!  Yuk....what would you do????   Thank you......
They'll be able to adjust the 20 to fit him and
he'll grow without growing out of it too quickly. It's your best bet.
How do you adjust to a 3rd shift job? nm

time to adjust
I'd give yourself some time to adjust before jumping back to the other position. Everyone hates starting a new job with new software and it's normal to wish you were back on a system that you were comfortable with. You probably didn't make your decision lightly, so I'd give it some time first.
Yes I'm tired, but you adjust. I have

very little me time, but I was never a big me time person.  I truly enjoy spending time with my family.  I graduated one this year and I've got 4 more years left and then I'll have all the me time I want.

My DH is an ex-math teacher so he handles math.  He usually does the grocery shopping and running errands.  My house is in a constant state of chaos and my flower beds are full of weeds.

This year is the first time I've had to work a strict schedule.  In the past I still tried to work a split shift, but had flexibility so I could do the field trips, the classes, etc.   My remaining child is a teen and does a lot of work on his own and he isn't into the field trips and other stuff now, so it is a bit easier in that respect, but we are also having to be more regimented in his studies because we have to be thinking about college.

You can Google your state or city and home educators to find support.  For the life of me I can't think of the national organization.  We're not very active in the homeschool community now because we prefer to do our own thing, but we have a weekly activity day.  It is usually bowling or rollerskating.  The kids are able to do their thing and the parents (usually moms) are able to socialize.  We have a gym day once a week.  It usually isn't structured, but gets the kids active.  We also have enrichment classes.  If foreign language or calculus isn't your thing your child can take enrichment classes.  We have a basketball team, a band.  We have proms and balls.   Places like the Y or the rock climbing place that don't get much business during the day have special rates/times for the homeschoolers.  There is a field trip at least once a month.  We have the science fairs, spelling bees, etc.  We have graduation ceremonies.  There are once a month support group meetings.  People who don't know anything about homeschooling always comment about lack of socialization, but as you can see from the above there is no lack of socialization.  Plus your child can participate in community sports, scouts, church group, plus have neighborhood friends, so we don't really keep our kids isolated.   We also have a year state convention/book fair.  We don't get any government funding or tax credits (though some states will provide the same textbooks that they use in public school), but we usually get teacher discounts.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Maybe that's it. Mine is SylCount Gold and relatively new.

Gold in them thar' hills!
If you keep your word books handy, and build up your skills, one day you will see the light bulb go on! The surgeons say pretty much the same thing every time. The longer the report the better, because you don't have to worry about medication names and dosages. You don't have to take so much time with setting up the demographics. I have always loved the operative notes. You can almost see the procedure taking place in your mind. You can save every other sentence in your expander. Remember, that the human anatomy stays the same, only the names of the instruments change. Once you have taught yourself (or abbreviated) the anatomy, you can just "get in the groove." While it may seem awful tonight, please take my word for it, it can be a real money-maker. Good luck to you. See you on the Word Board!
I use Sylvan Gold for my invoices, it sm
pulls from my reports done in word and counts the lines and tacks my line rate onto it. You can customize it to fit your invoicing/tallying needs. You can check it out at Sylvans website. They also offer a free 90-day trial on their product.
can't you adjust that yourself? call tech.
don't tamper with it for all of us.
Adjust sound card sm
You need to go to control panel, select sounds and devices, then select the audio tab, then the advanced tab, and finally the speakers tab. Change setting under "speaker setup" to stereo headphones, then you should hear in both ears with your headphones.
You can adjust the foot pedal so that it does
rewind and you can adjust how much it rewinds.  It takes some playing with to get it where you want it though.
I agree...the baby will adjust...
I started working from home when my son was in 1st grade and had another baby when he was in 2nd grade...My daughter is 21 months old and she is really good about playing by herself...she will watch Dora/Blues Clues/Diego, et cetera ...all those fun kid shows for about an hour in the morning and then she takes a nap, while I finish the majority of my work...then when she wakes up it is lunch time/play time and then around 2:00 she will watch another show for an hour and then my son comes home from school...some days are harder than others but like I said, when the kids know you work from home right from the get go, they don't know anything different so they adjust and like being home with their mommy...good luck!!!
Adjust speed on Cphone
Does anyone know what to do to adjust the speed on the CPhone?
Now, now,. No gold stars for little girls and boys
who have an ugly attitude. You might have to sit in the corner.

Hahahahahahahaha

I have that too, I call it liquid gold, it is SO expensive.
My pharmacy charges $65 for a 2 inch tube of it, but it does work well.
I did my office is yellow-gold with brown
tones and then with thinned brown craft paint ragged on using an old T-shirt.  Turned out great and elegant.   I also did my bathroom in green tones. People think its wall paper. This technique also hides any flaws you may have in your wall because it sort of gives it a 2D effect.
