I use SmarType with Microsoft Office with Word 2003

Posted By: SmarType and Word 2003 user on 2006-07-16

I have had this problem and have even lost documents and was told by Microsoft that this is a Microsoft bug that they have no fix for. I called them and e-mailed and they said they are working on a fix. Can't give me a solution and no time frame of when they will have a patch.

Microsoft Office 2003
I believe you can get a 30-day demo from the Microsoft website. I did that and then decided I loved it and was able to get a lower priced version from Costco for about $129. It is pretty nice because it comes with Excel, etc. Here is the link:

Hope this helps!
Smartype/Word 2003
There are no new fixes for that problem. If you call or E-mail Stedman's they will refund your money when you return the software. They know this is a problem. I have noticed that it only happens to me if I hit a combination of two hot keys. You could try turning off or not using those keys. I have found it to be the best solution as I am just more comfortable using Smartype. I tried other expanders, but just like Smartype better even with this problem.
Smartype/Word 2003
Not sure how to do that when I cannot get anything for Smartyupe to open--properties, settings, help, etc. I bought Smartype many years ago, from a different company, so not sure what to do. Thank you!
Smartype frozen--Word 2003

Aware of any new fixes for Smartype freezing in Word 2003?  Thank you!

shortcuts for microsoft word 2003

Hi,

Does anyone know how to create shortcuts or word expansions in microsoft word?  Thanks so much!!!

Where Can I find Microsoft Word 2003? sm
Is this the same as Microsoft Office Word 2003? I need this particular program, and can't seem to find it on the net any place.  Any advice?
Microsoft Word.. The oold Word used to do this and I'm new to 2003 Word..nm

WARNING...I wasn't so lucky trying to use Word 2003 and Smartype... SM
My system didn't just freeze up once in a while. I couldn't make it through one report without this happening. I finally researched the archives and found that there is actually a conflict between Word 2003 and the Smartype.

Anyway, I wanted to switch from Instant Text to Smartype so much that I actually uninstalled my entire Microsoft Office 2003 software package and purchased Word 2002. I haven't had a problem since.
It is a Word 2003 problem, not a Smartype problem
I've spoken to countless tech support reps at several MT companies, spoken to J the original owner/developer of ST, and B who overhauled it for Stedman.

Microsoft made a change in Word 2003 that causes the problem you have described. I went back to using a previous version of Word to eliminate the problem. One of the real triggers is if you have Autotext and AutoCorrect active in Word. Disable both of those. Change your backup settings in Word to automatic save a report every 1-2 minutes so you can recover something if you do lose it.

Don't expect a fix in your lifetime. Stedman/SmarType can't get Microsoft to fix Word.
Yes, I lost mine. I upgraded the Office 2000 package to Office 2003. sm
I have over 2000 autocorrect entries and lost them all as well as my supplemental dictionary for my Stedman's spellcheck. Lots of grief!

Maybe you will be lucky and not lose anything. Good luck to you.
Office 2003 so far, but going to Office 2007 as soon as I can. nm

Microsoft Office

Hi:

While moving, I lost my Microsoft Office 2003, Teacher/Student version, I paid over 150 dollars for it, and I was wondering if there are any other office programs a little cheaper that are compatible with doing transcription?

Office 2003--sm
I like it better than 2000. The only thing I have noticed with it though, although it was true of ALL versions of Word, was that when using it as primary for word processing and using auto correct for expansions, it seems like the capitalization after a period tends to erode after a while and sometimes it won't do it, particularly with the most used letters, like T, R, S, etc. but like I said, ALL the Word programs I have used have done this over time.

Can you use the Word autocorrects or only Smartype? What about the Word auto text? tia nm

I also use Outlook 2003 with Office, but
your email comes through your ISP into outlook, and your ISP has a storage quota. unless you *save* your emails to your hard drive, mine...two 80GB hard drives, they are not stored on your computer. If you keep them in your email files, your email storage has a quota. by the wording of her email, it sounds like she DID save these files to her hard drive, and that was why it took her so long to find them, put them in email, and return them.
Info/help on open Word 2007 docx with Word 2003.

I have a friend who sent me a document with .docx extension, presumably Word 2007. I can open it in Word 2003; however, all I see are musical notes and highlighting, no text (this is a document with words and highlighting only, no pictures, music notes, etc.). I tried to open this with Notepad and only see the usual gibberish.

I know I opened another 2007 Word doc before and I remember seeing the converter load at that time but that was probably a year ago. Is there something that has changed that I'm not aware of?

Darn Microsoft.

Is any one running ExText with Word 2000 and EditScript with Word 2003 sm

I am interested to know if anyone is running two platforms with a different version of Word on one computer.

I am running eScription's ES with Word 2003 and want to run ExText but their version of Word is 2000.  Has anyone done this or doing it now.  If so, have you run into any problems.

I can't seem to get a straightforward answer from the Techs at either company.    I can't just load ExText and jeopardize it interfering with eScription.

I am interested to hear any and all comments.  Thank you so much in advance for any help!

it clearly says for payroll. i had to download microsoft office to see it.

it shows everything past and prior line counts.  i counted the spaces and lines and they did not add up to MQ version some times.  wonder of the MQMT lawyers have seen this.

I purchased Office 2003 at Amazon.com.

Office 2003 versus 2007

Hi,

I am still working in Office 2003 but have been considering Office 2007.  Is anyone using this?  Do you like it?  Do you know if programs like Shorthand, Abacus, and other transcription programs work with it?  Is it possible to have Office 2003 and Office 2007 on the same computer without interfering with the one another??

I bought MS Office 2003 online...
The company I recently started with only uses Word 2003.  I bought a new version of Office 2003 online.  I can't connect with the site I bought it from (bargainfire.com), but if you dig deep enough on a Google search you will find something.  I remember it took me a while.  Good luck!
Changing Excel 2003 Addresses Into Word 2003 Addresses

Hello !

I have a large amount of addresses listed on an Excel 2003 spreadsheet.  I need these addresses for Word 2003 letters.  I end up copying the address from Excel and pasting it into Word, but as you can imagine, the pasted address is in a straight line and I end up having to type the address so it displays correctly for a letter.  Does anyone know if there is a simple way to change the Excel address format to a Word letter address format?  Thank you for your help.

My Stedmans spellcheck disappeared with SP 2 for Office 2003!

An update from Microsoft of SP 2 for Office 2003, a reboot and now when I open Word my Stedmans spellcheck doesn't work.   I tried to reload it and that doesn't work, either.   Anyone else have this happen?  I looked and it's in "Proof" for dictionaries as LEXB4SP, but it's not loading up and replacing the Word spellcheck.   Now what do I do?

I have Vista and am running Office 2003 on it just fine.
I haven't used Word 2007 even though I have it, just because I haven't been able to buy Stedman's for Word 2007 yet.
I use Vista with Office 2003 Student/Teacher edition. nm

Switching from Word 2000 to Word 2003...
Has anyone upgraded from W2000 to W2003? If so, did all your autocorrect entries and normals transfer easily? I would like to upgrade but don't want 2 lose my shortcuts and expanders! TIA

Can you transfer them from Word 2002 to Word 2003?
I was able to transfer mine from one computer to another when I had Word 2002 on both of them.  Now I have a new computer with Word 2003, and have not been able to do it.  The autocorrect has a different file name.
I dunno about Word 2007 but Word 2003

has AutoCorrect, which is probably what you're meaning. When you program a macro, it records your Keystrokes and actions and is more complicated than what you're needing.

In Word 2003, type the word/phrase you want (i.e., degenerative disc disease) then highlight it. Go to Tools, AutoCorrect Options, and your highlighted word should be in the "with" box. Type your shortcut (i.e., ddd) in the "replace" box. Click Add then OK. To use the new entry, just type what you put in the replace box (ddd). No other keys necessary. I would guess it should be about the same in Word 2007.

Hope that helps! Feel free to email if you have more questions...

Word 2007, Word 2002, or 2003
How many transcriptionists have switched to these versions of Word?  I am still using Word 2000, and it works well for me, but have been offered job with a company that uses Word 2007, and another company that will let you use Word 2002 or 2003.  I am fighting this and am at the point where I just might not accept a new job because of this change.  I can't imagine why they would want to change from Word 2000.  Your opinions, please.  Thank you.
Word 2003 and Word 2007....

If you have Word 2003 and upgrade to Word 2007 - will you still be able to access your Word 2003 documents?

I am still kinda confused on this as everything I have read about this states that the Word 2003 files will be opend in a "compatibility" form, as opposed to normal.

Would it be in my best interest to save the Word 2003 files to a disk first?

Smartype/Word
I do too.
Smartype/Word
I use Alt A to jump to the {} field, if I understand you correctly.  Don't know that that will help you.
Smartype in WP or MS Word?
Hi, again,

My husband (and Resident Tech Support) just asked if when you converted from ST to SH you were using ST in WP or MS Word.
Smartype with MS Word
Smartype is not compatible with MS Word 2003. I used it for a very short time and it would freeze constantly or spontaneously backspace and erase my entire document. This wasn't an infrequent problem, this happened every two minutes. If you just purchased this, Stedmans may give you a refund if you contact Customer Service.
Smartype and Word
go to www.productivitytalk.com.  I too am a Smartype user, though have not tried it with Word 2003 as of yet.  I just googled your question and others are having this same problem.  Check out the forum.
Smartype only works in DOS WP5.1 and MS-Word
and if you are trying to use Smartype in a cottage program that has stripped out some of Word's features, Smartype will behavior improperly or not at all.  It will also behavior improperly in MS-Word 2003 due to a change Word made that is not compatible with Smartype.  Last time I talked to Joe, Stedman was not making this fix a priority so I reinstalled MS-Word 2000 to avoid the conflict.
Smartype & Blocks in MS Word?

I have just started using Smartype with MS Word 2002.  I have created blocks and saved them.  Some of them work but others are not pulling into my documents when I type in the name of the blocks.  When I try to readd them ST tells me that they are there so why aren't they pulling into my reports?  Thanks for any help with this.

Microsoft Word
I am purchasing a new computer and obviously we all know the headaches of transferring all of Word information to a new one, or at least I dread it.  How do I save all of may Autotext and Autocorrect entries to transfer to the new Word on the new computer?  Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
Microsoft Word help

I hope I can explain this right:

I can be typing along just fine in Word, and suddenly it will "blank out", causing me to retype sometimes two or three sentences. There are times this happens three or four times per report, and times it does not happen all day. I have to stop, click with the mouse back to where I was, and retype. Does this make sense and does anyone know what I can do to get it to stop? Thanks!

Microsoft Word help please

For the first time in my 5 years of MTing, I am going to be working in Word and I need to make macros as well as auto text and I am clueless how to do this.

I know it's a lot to ask but y'all are the best.  Can someone walk me through the steps.  You'll be my new BFF, I promise. :)

Actually Word 97 through 2003 (sm)
are essentially the same. A document created in 2003 can be opened in 97 with no problems. You aren't missing anything and you saved a bundle!
NEED HELP WITH WORD 2003

Does anyone on the board here know how to subtype in Word?

Word 97 to 2003

I am finding that my Word 97is bogging down and two accounts that I work use 2003 and I believe there might be interference between the two programs.  I would like to know if anyone has transitioned their documents to 2003 and if there have been any complications.

Thanks

Word 2003
Buy the student version.  My daughter did and it was so much cheaper and works just as well.
Word 2003 help

HELP! I've used Word 2003 for years. I bought a new computer with XP, NOT Vista, loaded the program back on and it seems to work fine EXCEPT I always worked in normal view, just like it better. However, now in normal view will NOT display the entire status bar words as before; i.e., Ln does NOT show up. For example, if I wanted to skip to Line 6.75 or whatever, I have no clue where it is. Print view, I know, displays all of this. In normal view, it  never shows page breaks either which it did before. My problem is, I really like to work in normal view and have done so for years with the above items showing up on the status bar. The status bar is there at the bottom but won't display Ln at all. I have two reference books and cannot for the life of me figure thisout. Any ideas? Perhaps reinstalling it again???

MS Word 2003
I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post on, but does anybody know where they sell MS Word 2003 alone (not the Office package)?  Thanks!
MS Word 2003
Thanks everybody!
Word 2003 help please.

Hi all!

I accidently bumped something -- I have no clue what!  But now I have two tools bars on my Word 2003 screen and I cannot seem to get rid of the duplicate.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Word 2003
Not sure of how to help with that - but was told by the IT people where I work not to update to the newest version or it would interfere with the connection with Escription -
Word 2003
I tried that -- it didn't remove the double tool bar and I didn't update anything either so it didn't get messed up from any updates -- just me typing too fast and hitting something that I shouldn't have.  Ugh!
