Maybe some Windex or Pledge All-Surface wipes always at the ready? Might be able to use car wax on

mine is fine...sounds like a monitor resolution thing--
or perhaps, did you download an antivirus update or something. maybe your video card acting up?? just suggestions.
Who has time to read books?

I'm too busy trying to juggle 3 jobs, and spending time reading a book has become a luxury I just can't afford.  Can really relate to the OP.

I keep hearing how great the economy is, and I'm starting to wonder if that's simply just not true.

That should read "reference books."

ANOTHER POLL - favorite books - read more than once (sm)
Gone with the Wind, Roots, The Stand
I have bought books that the kids have to read in the
summer for school there for 99 cents. Postage has usually been around $3, but still cheaper than going to the bookstore to get it. I didn't get them at the library because you never know if they will need them for a report when school starts.
You're joking, right? That was WWII, read your history books.

Not the tapes, books and seminars I am talking about, please read....
I am referring to personal development materials by the likes of Zig Ziglar, Jim Rohn, Dale Calvert, Brian Tracy, Norman Vincent Peale and stuff like "Chicken Soup For The Soul" as well as inspiratoinal music.  I know Amway & Quixstar has bad reputations, but please don't put down the entire industry of network Marketing because of one company.  There are several wonderful companies out there.
my only problem with that was when I read the fine-print...

the company I was going to apply for, out-sourced some company to do the checks, and if I were to sign for the check they were entitled to even go so far as to contact my landlord, family, etc., to get information on me.

Of course I was told it was just a formality and it would probably never happen, but if I signed that, this third company could do that, whenever they wanted, and for whatever reasons.

Personally, I would rather be in control of my personal information as much as I can...not that there really is 'privacy' anymore.

Even though I trusted that company I wanted to apply for, I certainly had no idea who this company was they hired to do the checks...

PS - I also did the bankrupt thing in the past, and I could not be sure this company would not turn around and sell my information to my former debtors...I mean, who knows.  I do not trust people, period.

Yeah, I read the fine print...sm
on the brochure AFTER I signed up with Bell South for unlimited long distance. It said something like it had to be voice to voice (I'm thinking not recorded voice). It's suppose to cost $20/month, but if I go over 5000 minutes, they will tack another $50.00 on my bill.

I was up front about why I wanted unlimited long distance when talking to Bell South's call center lady (from India), and she said it would be no problem. We'll see.
Read the fine print. Residential
long distance services, unlimited, state that is for residential calls, etc. The business plans state they are for businesses. What the are not allowing is a business rate long distance plan to be connected to a residential phone. And, of course, there is always the fine print "other restrictions may apply."
There is alot of fine print to read
in order to receive the bonus.  Many MTs don't stay long enough because these companies are usually deceiving.  Think about it, if it were so easy to get $500, $1000, etc. everyone would be jumping at the chance.  Don't bother, it's a smoke screen
How comes this person wasn't reported to the monitor board? I told someone to read the red note on
I'll probably get banned for writing this, but my comment was much milder than this. I didn't call anyone any names. What's up with this?
QA lady don't read books like Eats Shoots & Leaves, obviously
this is a great read for those of us who are "Punctuation Sticklers"!
Ask QA if she if anal- retentive is spelled with a hyphen! (This is the true test of a QA person).
Buying a new computer and cant decide on LCD monitor or regular monitor. Any opinions out there. The
LCD is 325.00 with 1 year warranty.
Windex.........nm

I use Windex on mine. NM
:
FYI I HAVE reference books, but in case you hadn't noticed, thing change a lot faster than BOOKS
I was simply asking for suggestions of other places on line that I might look for the latest info, especially considering that my work is on the internet, what the hell is wrong with trying to be more productive and efficient?!?! Good Grief!!
If I run out of Clorox wipes, I use a
multipurpose cleaner and paper towels, then sometimes still spray Lysol.  I'm a germ-a-phobe.  Have you ever watched "How Clean is your House?"  It comes on Lifetime.  My daughter and I love that show and it gives great cleaning tips.
I prefer books. I'm kinda old school. I like to be able to write new terms in my books. I do

have Stedman's Medical Dictationary on CD and I do use it quite a bit, but that's more because the actual print dictionary is so darn heavy to pick up and look a word up!

I use Scrubbing Bubbles, too. Windex in the kitchen.
Bleach with water and Lysol spray to disinfect.  I keep a backup can of Comet around in case I run out of everything else.  Pledge on the wooden kitchen table just for fun.  I don't like the kitty on the counters or table, so he slides across the slippery surface after I use Pledge.  Most entertaining.  And Brite to shine the kitchen floor so we can watch the dogs skittering around corners while playing with kitty.
Windex or rubbing alcohol on glass :)

I was afraid to buy Clorox wipes. Do they
I was afraid I'd wipe everything with them and they would bleach my clothes or whatever they came in contact with.  Thought surely it must be colorsafe bleach if they put it in wipes, but I didn't want to take a chance!
glass cleaning wipes
They are in a plastic tube kinda like the wet wipes but are made for monitors and TVs.  Wal-Mart has them.
If US wipes out its MT industry, it better be prepared to
I know I'm at an age where, if US MT disappears entirely, I'm too far from Soc. Sec. or retirement to be able to take advantage of that, and too old to go back to school for the length of time it would take to learn a new skill that would pay the rent/groceries/gas/etc. So most likely I'd be on the government dole. Multiply that x tens of thousands, (hundreds of thousands if you add in all the OTHER US workers in other industries, but in the same boat age & skill-wise, and you've got a whole 'nother Katrina going on.
Congrats, girl, and get your share of any money that you share before he wipes you out. nm

In 12 years of MT'ing I've never re-read an entire chart. Edit/read as I type. nm

Yes, I read your post, and I just re-read it, and I've copied and pasted for you in case

you've forgotten your own words! Your post above is 100% different "flavor" to it, now all positive and cheery! Your first post was 100% doom and gloom every which way, including "raining on your parade", and "if you want to go forward"...God, sounds like she's talking about jumping into oncoming traffic! Here is your quote:

My first boss (the one who hired me as a new grad) gave me some words of wisdom that I haven't forgotten. She said that transcribing at home with small children NEVER works under any circumstance. Either the work will suffer or the parenting will suffer.

****

How can the word "NEVER" in caps be interpreted in any positive way? You took about 8 paragraphs to cover every aspect and completely dash this poor woman's dream.  I'm not blind, I'm not talking about day care at all, I'm talking about the total negativity of your original post! You know exactly what I'm talking about, cause you added some sugar to your second version! And that's much nicer than the first!

Oh I've read that site and continue to read it...sm
I agree...much motivation there. I have tried to quit numerous times in the past and did successfully quit when I was pregnant for the first time many years ago but I have never managed to summon up the strength or resolve to stay quit. Thus the "need" for a financial investment in my efforts. It somehow makes it more motivational to know that I have $$$ invested in this effort over and above the $$$ saved on cigarettes.
Who had time to read?LOL I only get a chance to read This Old House once in a while. (nm)

Are you a monitor here?
>>
I luv my LCD monitor
Not much to assemble. It's really a matter of popping the two cords into the back of the monitor. It'll take you about 15 minutes from start to finish ... that includes opening the box, taking out everything, reading the directions, connecting the monitor, installing the software), and throwing the box out.
monitor

If you use your computer a lot, plan on buying a lot of batteries or having a backup for a wireless with a charger.

As for monitors, you can get them on pricewatch pretty cheap now.  I actually bought my son a 21 inch Sony on ebay for 200 including shipping.  For my own 19 inch, I bought it at a rent-to-own furniture store.  Once they have them a few months, they sell them and I bought it for 40. and it's like new.

Monitor
Yes! Yes! Yes! I recently got a flat-screen and I love, love, love it. I have a Sceptre which I bought at Wal-Mart for about $150.00. Best thing I ever did. It really cut down on my headaches. Get a flat-screen. You will not be sorry. I promise. :)
Well I DO need a big monitor...
these days. After hitting 40, my eyesight definitely isn't what it used to be, LOL!
monitor
i used to have this happen, and with mine, it was not a precursor to going out. But i can't remember what supposedly caused it -- power surge, interference?? but in my case, led to no other problems.
Monitor......
Buy a shield or screen for the monitor that minimizes glare from the lightsource.
Need help with monitor

I recently had a monitor conk out, so I got the one out that came with my personal computer (a couple years old but never used).

Everything was fine for a few weeks but lately, out of the blue, my page will shift to the right for no apparent reason (leaving 1-1/2 inch of black on the left and the right edge of the page not in view) and then it will shift back at some point.

When I press on the monitor menu button, nothing happens at all.  I know when I first set it up, the menu and selections worked fine.

Any idea what is happening here?

Do you use more than one monitor?...

My husband and I "built" our new computer on Dell's website last night, and they are offering a second monitor for a very reasonable rate.  My question is, does anyone have this set-up using 2 monitors to work?  I didn't quite see the use for 2, but maybe to have one just for typing, and the other for my references?

Apparently, it is set up that you just have to move your mouse and it will move over to the other screen....seems easy enough.  But, I don't know if it would be worth the extra space it would take up on my desk and work area.  So,does anyone have this set-up and consider it a must?

Thanks very much for your help!

What monitor do you have?

This has nothing to do with the monitor...sm
It's about how the page will be printed:

Portrait or Landscape.

Click on 'File'
Click on 'Page Set Up'

Then you have the option: Portrait or Landscape, click how you want it printed.

Portrait prints it vertical
Landscape horizontal (for longer lines)

Cat sits on monitor.

who are we to monitor what they do with their money?
What is the *proper manner*?  What you think they should do with money?  These are grown men and women with families.  They can decide what to do with the money.  There but for the grace of God go I.
Software with monitor
You install the software that comes with the monitor. It's very straight forward. Insert disk. Install software. Enjoy monitor.
Need to get a new PC monitor, need opinions
Anyone with flat panels, how do you like them?  Any problems with them?
