I went to

North Dakota State College of Science for transcription and coding and did it all at home on-line.  I had already gone to school for my LPN, so I had some of the classes under my belt to begin with, but it was sure a stressful time for me!  My youngest at the time were 1 and 2.  I was fortunate to get hired right out of school with Medquist (not there anymore).  I have always done a split shift thing to help with breaking up the day and dealing with the kids, so some early in the morning and some in the evening, but this does make a long day for mom.  I have never been sorry that I made the career change, however.  I would do it again tomorrow.  It is not easy though, not at all, and most days I feel a little haggered when it is all said and done.  Looking down the road, though, the flexibility is great when the kids get in school.  I never miss a program or meeting or special things.  The flexibility is more than any job I have ever had and that means a lot for me.  The wages are also good...at least I think so... especially when you consider no communting, lunches, special work clothes, etc.  I live in a small rural community, so the wages are not real great here anyway.  I definately make more at this than I ever would going back into nursing.  Anyhow, good luck!
