 It sounds like a pretty good deal as long as he is not controlling your schedule at all. 
 I was recently offered a supposedly IC position, but they wanted full-time, evening shift, including weekends, using a specific platform.  That didn't sound like IC to me; sounded more like an employee position where they were going to try to save themselves big money on taxes.  While I needed a better job, I didn't feel comfortable allowing the company to treat me this way, thus enabling them to continue such practices.  I believe that they are not in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act, but don't know yet how to report them.  Regarding the IRS, it seems that the only time I could report them is if I already work for them, but I'm going to call the IRS next week and find out for sure. 
 I would love to find a true IC position where I, at least, have no set schedule.
