IT

I've given IT a try a quite few times and have never been 100% satisfied with the product. I was a PRD+ and user, and then switched to ShortCut, both DOS and windows versions. I loved ShortCut but then read here about Shorthand, and, for me, this is the program of choice. I can duplicate my entries easily, so if I have a large, somewhat time-consuming short I want to duplicate and make one or two little changes, I can do it easily in Shorthand, which, quite frankly, I'm surprised can't be done in IT. This feature is one I use daily.

Shorthand does offer the option of seeing the "suggestion window," which is a window similar to what you see in IT but not nearly as "functional" as ITs. The "suggestion window" in IT actually gave me a headache and slowed me down, but maybe I needed to put more time into using IT to become accostomed. I just felt like I was always watching the suggestion window and wasn't getting up to my full speed.

I did not like using the comma as an Expander in IT as my pinkie finger is not very strong, and using the space bar isn't really the optimal way to expand in IT, though it is definitely an option.

Also, I use Word and keep multiple windows open with each client. IT isn't very friendly on my machine with multiple windows open ... it doesn't always "follow" the windows around like it should. There was something else about having multiple windows open that IT didn't seem to like on my computer, but offhand I can't remember what it was.

IT does have lots of great functions. The ability to make a glossary from a document is really cool, but I have my own clients and don't have to deal with hearing hundreds of different doctors each week, so for me building a glossary isn't really as useful as it might be for most.

Anyway, these are just a couple of the cons I experienced. There's probably others I can't think off at the moment, but there were also lots of things I did like about IT, so really it came down to what I felt was the most comfortable.

If you haven't tried Shorthand, why not give it a try? I believe it has a 30-day trial. I still have my IT and haven't yet sold it, guess I'm thinking maybe one day I'll try it again, but for the money, ShortHand has been a great tool as I don't need all of ITs bells and whistles.

Whatever you decide, good luck!
