Granola
I love Granola. Now that John Denver is gone, sadly I have no reason to go to Colorado, would be too painful.

Lots of 'em, but use a Lab Words, Sted's Ortho/Rehab Words, & Tessier's Surgical Words most

What a bargain
Have a 1996 Suburban, bought in 02/1999 with 64K miles - sm
now has 184K miles, still going strong. Paid $26K. Have gotten our money's worth on it. Just started making repairs here and there over the last 2 years, new fuel pump, new fitting from radiater to engine, a couple engine seals, water pump, cleaning of fuel injectors. Probably about $2K all together in the last 7 years we have had it, not bad I think, other than regular maintance stuff, i.e. brakes, tires, oil changes, air filters, engine belt, etc. Gets about 15 MPG, 18 sometimes. Thing is a tank and I love it. Had a Blazer before that, though I had to put a lot of $$$ into it over the years I had it (10), about 16 MPG---Going to run the Suburban into the ground, hope to get 250K miles at least out of it. Has a few tics now and then due to age but all in all is in great shape and runs well, and I have made a point of fixing things immediately engine-wise and cosmetically. Go GM, have heard the transmissions last a lot longer (mine is proof of that, 184K original transmission) my husband has a 1990 Ford F-250 that had its transmission rebuild at 90K miles. His truck now has 189K miles on it and shifts rough.
Jumped only .10 so far in Mechanicsville, VA - got a Suburban....luckily have quite a full tank -
at least! Plus once the kids are in school I don't drive much.....luckiy!
Used to own a Suburban, loved that truck. Have ridden in Ford trucks and SUVs

tree
This year I did not put my artificial tree up. This is the first year without a tree at Christmas in many, many years. But our children are grown and the grandkids will not be here this year so I decided to skip it. I do love my tree up and really enjoy it but at 50-something I no longer have the energy to do it. Instead, I decorated the house very simply with candles and several nativity sets. I think my home looks Christmasy and it won't be too difficult to put it all away.
Well, I don't live in Denver, but we are a ....

Southwestern family who moved to the Northeast.  Could be a considered a similar change, of climate at least.  Do you have teenage children?  If so, GOOD LUCK!  We moved a 15yo girl and it was hell on earth for about a year.  As God as my witness, I will never move a teenager again unless I havef no other choice.

The first winter was a definitely an adjustment, but after the first year your blood "thickens" and you get used to it.  I'm running out the door in a light jacket at 35 degrees now.  That isn't even cold anymore.  Have you investigated the cost of living?  There's a great website call Homegain.com and you can do all kinds of investigations on an area including crime rates, schools, etc.  If you have kids, try greatschools.net.  You can use that to help narrow down what school districts you might want to live within.  Good luck.

Any Denver-area MTs??
She needs a neuroophthalmologist and I cannot find one in Denver for her.  Any insight appreciated!  Thanks.
We planted a tree
We had a sink hole starting in our backyard once, it was small at first but was getting deeper and wider. That year we planted our live Christmas tree in the hole, with some additional dirt and gravel, etc. My husband figured the roots would help hold the soil in place and it seemed to work for us... no more hole, just a beautiful evergreen.
Tree stumps
Hi, all!   Does anyone know how to get rid of tree stumps?   Specifically, has anyone ever burned them down to ash?  If so, what did you use to keep the fire going, and how long did it take?  TIA.
Tree stumps

There are products you can buy that provide microorganisms to the stump that will start the deterioration process and the stump will rot naturally.

You can have the stump ground out.  You'll get a variety of prices.  If you decide to go this route, please make sure the company you choose is insured and bonded and licensed.

If you decide to try to burn the stump out, you could find it takes a LOT longer that you ever imagined.  Also, once you begin to burn the stump, it will make it almost impossible to grind the stump after that if you change your mind about methods of removal.  The fire and heat applied to the stump make it extremely dry and hard and.

I had a tree and some big limbs fall due to the past hurricanes in Florida and thought I was going to have to have the stump ground out.  I had to call a tree service to trim the other trees in my yard and while there, I had them look at the stump.  They were actually able to "bump" the stump out of the ground in less than a minute with a small Bobcat they had brought.

Just be sure to investigate all your options before making your decision.  Good luck!  :)

tree stumps
I am in the process of burning out some stumps on my property right now (along with a huge brush pile). The guy who is doing it for me has 30 yrs experience and he says that burning it is not always the best method because it can continue burning through the root system for a long time and could crop up in another place and start a fire (not much worry for that at my place right now as I have about 3 ft of snow on the ground). So, burning can be done, just be real careful.
Fireworks in Denver?
I've tried looking this up online, but I'm not having any luck.  Do any Coloradoans know where one could go and see fireworks tonight in Denver or in the surrounding areas?

Fireworks in Denver
Thanks, kks! The only one I could find earlier was the one at Coors Field.
we are thinking about moving to Denver (sm)
and I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who lives in or around that area.  Any info good or bad would be appreciated.  I just wanna know the basics, like how hard would it be for a southern family to adapt to Colorado? TIA!
Denver beautiful town
Granola tree huggers??  Sounds good to me..better than cholesterol artery clogged tree destroyers.  My cousin lives in Westminster, another in Estes Park.
MQ check...Denver office
I got one for $9. I have just been told they found an additional $49 I haven't been paid, either, but that check won't come until my pay at the end of the month.

Very convenient.

And on top of that, I have just been told the remainder of my accounts are going onto the DEP platform, which I detest.

In a crappy mood, needless to say.
Same here last week. I had a prelite tree
and it was smelling hot. When I checked it the plug had melted into the power strip. Tossed it out immediately and bought a new tree. Glad you and your family are okay. Merry Christmas!

Does anyone live in the Denver, Colorado, area? sm

I may possibly be moving there.  What can you tell me about it?  The school systems do not matter as we no longer have children at home.  What areas are nice to live in?  I read that when it snows it usually melts the same day....is that true?

Any information from someone who lives there or has lived there would be much appreciated.

TIA

Buying and planting a tree or shrub in their yard,
something that blooms/flowers so that they can seek comfort every year and it is symbolic too.
You'll need a lab words book and maybe the Derm and Immunology Words..nm

Live in Fort Collins, 60 miles N of Denver, Beautiful!
You can email me and I will answer your questions.  I can't speak for those who live IN Denver, but I know you need to watch out for certain neighborhoods, as you do anywhere you live.  I have a sister who lives SW of Denver, in the Littleton area.  She lives it.  Kathy :)
Christmas tree blobs are my absolute fave. Send some to me. nm

Can the Administrator remove the Christmas tree cursor from the other boards? :) nm

I have tried WW but they had me eating more than i normally do
I ended up putting on weight instead of losing. I ate strictly their food which is totally expensive. I had another grocery bill aside from my family's. I could not stay with them.

They say if you eat 1300 calories that you will lose even without exercise. Bull. you have to work those calories off if you eat them to lose weight.

Horrible experience. I had lost 20 pounds on my own, but then gained 10 back from WW. I am disgusted with them.
I would be too after eating that! LOL
d
You would have to do a lot of hat-eating ...
... I believe. What in the world makes you think you have the monopoly on written and spoken English? If it wasn't so sad that you actually really believe that, it would be laughable.
Yes, but, when they are eating something
I often wonder what it is!!! For many years I was disgusted at these lack of manners. Then, for some reason, my rich inner life and imagination kicked in. The other day, a doc may have been eating a sandwich, I wonder what kind? Chips, I want some too! Crunch, crackle, etc. It sounds good. Whatever it is I wanted to know right then what it was and I wondered why I was not asked by the nurse if I wanted take out too LOL. (Partially sarcastic post, but sometimes true, I do get hungry and wonder what tastes so good...)
Doc eating
Okay, I am instantly angry because, not only am I sitting here editing VR which is incompetent, but I have to listen to a know-it-all woman doc chomping salad in my ear.  Poof Im gone.  How rude and inconsiderate can they be?
I would rather have the eating
and even that gross snot sucking, throat clearing thingy...than to have to listen to 3000 seconds of hold music. They graduated medical school, why can they not figure out the dictation equipment?
Stedmans Med $ Surgical Equip words, Path and Lab words, and Tessiers Surgical Word book (3rd
edition).  I never buy drug books anymore.  Waist of money in my opinion.  New drugs come out so often, it's best to use the web.
healthy eating

What are the healthiest fruits and veggies to eat?  I know raw veggies are supposed to be better for you too and that frozen is better than canned.  Any other advice?  Thanks.

It's like my mom used to say about eating vegetables:
;)
Chinese, especially when eating something. nm

Chewing gum/eating

One Russian psychiatrist actually ate an entire apple while dictating, and her accent could hardly be understand to begin with.  We're talking right off the boat.

I particularly like someone eating an item wrapped in paper, because then you get both the chomping and the crackling.

And gum chewers (of which I've had several) who slurp, smack and actually crack the gum into the phone.

lots of water before eating
I haven't tried this myself, but I recently read an article about two very overweight men who lost tons of weight (not quickly, but gradually).  Both exercised every day, starting off with very little and gradually working it up, and one of them said he also drank something like a liter of water before each meal, which filled up his stomach so he got full fast and it really helped him cut back on how much he was eating.  I thought it sounded logical.
Also, eating like a poor person
is not always a bad thing. I do need to lose some weight. :0)
Never said she was big...maybe it is stress, not on an eating schedule, whatever.
Not that she needed to at all; she just did! Sorry!
I'd rather have the eating than the snot sucking
That just grosses me out so badly. Blow your nose for cryin' out loud!
So while Yuck's mother was eating diarrhea...
she was being molested???  My goodness.  I would be just as sick as Yuck is.  No wonder she is so messed up.  POOR MOLESTED YUCK!
So none of you holy rollers are eating on Easter

GUILTY!!! Im a holy roller but I will definitely be eating too!!!!!

Teenage eating disorders question...sm

Hello,

I'm convinced that my stepdaughter is developing an eating disorder but am having a hard time convincing my husband of the same.  The 15-year-old girl has lost I think at least 30 pounds in the past few weeks and refuses to eat more than a few bites and wants to just drink prune juice to help her poop.   She won't listen to me that you have to eat in order to have something to poop and is obsessed that she's not pooping every day but also says she's not going to eat.

She was previously overweight but now is what I think is a weight that she looks good.  I'm concerned that she's going to end up ill if she doesn't start eating consistently.  My husband seems to think this is just a fad she's going through.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc?

I would do research on eating disorders and get some facts.
and not in an accusing way. Also Tyra, Oprah, Dr. Phil, they all have had and will continue to have shows on this issue. If you catch one, tape it and watch it with your husband and then get her to watch it. She may have a low self-esteem from being overweight and needs some encouragement and love. Spend time with her and show interest in things she is interested. I am sure Dr. Phil's web site addresses this issue and gives advice. Is her mother in the picture, and can the two of you talk? If so, I would talk to her. You need everybody on the same page IMO.
Good Luck
