JUST what I wanted! You're brilliant! sm
OHHH I AM SO PLEASED. Have a great day. You have your kudos for the week.
Brilliant. And put 8K MTs out of work.
"I'm sick of hanging on by my fingernails hoping things will get better." -- Stop waiting. Get out.

"Every day for the last 4 years my income has diminished." -- You have allowed it if you have stayed. You are okaying and excusing how they are treating you if you tolerate it.

"As long as men have their fingers in any particular industry, you can bet you will starve doing work for them." -- What? Man hater, are we? Or, do you really believe that MQ is run only by men and there are no women in the ranks? You think women would be better managers? I don't see anything but complainers about MQ on this board -- no one is acting on what is happening. If you're wanting to have a voice and effect change, you have to do something. MQ has provided an avenue to accept complaints in a timely and professional manner. Use it. Fill out a complaint form. Get your fellow complainers to do that. Have their inboxes jammed full of those complaints -- legitimate, professional, formal complaints. That is the mechanism MQ put into place to handle problems and complaints and, by federal regulation, they must abide by their own policies and procedures. Try it at least.

It probably means you're not Indian and won't work for 2 cents a line.

BUT, you are brilliant. Keep up the good work! You are my hero for today! nm

You're pretty full of yourself aren't you?
your problems, your point of view, your way, your outlook, your, your, your.

frankly unless you know exactly what everyone is up against personally, financially, physically, emotionally, your "advice" is exactly worth what we paid for it. ZERO. Now don't waste your typing skills trying to talk down to us again. No one is buying into it.
Well those things aren't "fudging" -- they're being more SM

Make sure there aren't other taxes that you're overlooking.

Some communities/counties have occupational privilege tax, 911 tax. Some sales require you to collect a sales tax on your service. The best advice is to check with a tax preparer AND visit your state's revenue website to make sure you're not missing anything.

and now it's OUR fault that the docs aren't more careful when they're dictating?
Hey, they're making 100 times what we do, so it's their responsibility to be aware of what they're saying, not ours.

Chars aren't counted in gross lines. If you have a 4-line paragraph...sm
you have 4 gross lines, no matter how long or short the sentences are. A heading on it's own line is 1 gross line. A signature on it's own line is 1 gross line. The date at the top of a document on it's own line is 1 gross line. Anything on a line going from margin to margin is 1 gross line, no matter how few or many characters, or if there are spaces or not, even if there's only 1 character on that line like 'A' for instance. Does this  help? :)

Thank you :)
If you were truly as brilliant as you . . .

profess to be, I doubt you would feel the need to broadcast it on a public forum.  Wouldn't your abundant intellect be satisfaction enough?  Wouldn’t you just prefer to sit and marvel at yourself in the mirror or something?  Why would you bother to come here and post among those who probably don’t even have the slightest inkling as to your enormous intelligence?

And, yes, modesty is a good thing to be, whether man or woman.  With your massive brain power I would think you would have figured that out a long time ago.

BRILLIANT!!!!
Now YOU are getting the idea.  I am not for hire here, however.  But thank you for seeing the point and reading between the lines.  I only try to help people and not for my own gain.  I truly care about America and American and keeping our businesses, whatever they may be in line.
I don't make 0.08/line.. I work for no less than .13/line. nm

We're usually paid by the line SM
I think MTEC is worth it, at least from what I hear.
The bottom line is doesnt matter what they pay if there is no work you make no money. Bottom line.

Or.... how about the famous line "we're growing!!!"
and you see the same ad week after week after week after week. I can think of 3 places that continuously have ads out. I have worked all 3. I now know firsthand why they advertise all the time, they probably can't keep anybody more than a month or two.

Geez, you're really getting close to the line of sounding bitter.
May I suggest some counseling? The OP asked an innocent question and you took it like a personal attack against you.

I've been a single parent and mind you I know how hard it is to be in that situation, but if someone asks a simple question like "what does your spouse do" most people who don't have a SO at the moment would have moved on to another thread and never given it a second thought.

Seriously, time to do some self-searching.
If you can't afford to pay a transcriptionist 10 cents a line then obviously you're part of th

The reality of the situation might be, Gloria, that no one is willing to pay your business more than the "going rate" because they just don't think you're worth it.

Emergency question for brilliant computers techs. sm
I just had a weird experience with my computer.  The screen looked like it was shaking.  I thought it was in Word at first, but the desktop was doing this also.  It was like a wavy line was going down the screen, part of it would jump a little bit, then below it some more would jump.  It was almost like a wave pattern to the side, I could see the edges of the screen moving in and out.  I thought I saw this yesterday once or twice, but decided it was my eyes.  It wasn't, this was definitely real.  It lasted for approximately a minute.  Is this something to worry about?  TIA.
You're expected quota depends on whether you are paid hourly or per line. SM

I'm paid hourly and I was told the requirement was 50 or more reports per day.  I've never worked QA per line, but I'm sure their line quota is pretty high, at least 2000 or better per day, as you get credit for every line in every report you QA.

Hope this was the answer you were looking for.

You're supposed to plant them in beds and line the bed with chicken wire and then place the bulbs

on top of the wire and cover.  This keeps the critters from getting to them, but is a lot of work.

You're 100% right! And where we work - (sm)
(and what we wear!) should have NO bearing whatsoever on whether or not we're considered 'professionals'.

I think the reason the MT industry has gotten out of the hands of MTs and hospitals, and into the hands of plain old businessmen, is because, since we're a mostly 'invisible' workforce, they could see countless cracks and loopholes they could take advantage of when it came to cheating the workers (and the laws in this country) and making more profit for themselves.

I caught something on TV last night speaking about the "equal value" laws some states have, when it comes to the disparity between men's and women's pay. Certain jobs were awarded point systems to determine their worth to an employer. One example was secretaries (women) vs. the building's heating/AC/etc. maintenance workers (mostly men). They each were worth 100 points. Yet the men made twice what the women did, and worked fewer hours on average.

Considering what MTs are expected to know (especially according to AHDI/AAMT), I wonder what our point-value would be compared to, say - a paralegal, or a paramedic, or an executive secretary, etc. (Probably not the best comparisons, but all I can think of at the moment). The only difference between us and them is where we work. They're on-site & highly visible; we are off-site and totally invisible. (How many of us have ever even met our bosses or supervisors face-to-face? Very few, indeed). But does that make an MT worth less? NO. Only in the eyes of the tunnel-visioned doctors, dictating away and aware only of their own jobs, or the hospital CEOs trying to bolster their own worth to their institutions by cutting transcription costs (many of them don't even quite know what transcription even IS), and worst of all, the owners of large MTSO's, who in large part these days are simply businessmen or women who bought the company because they felt they could turn a huge profit with it by underpaying its workers, and most of whom have never been an MT a single day in their lives.
I have NEVER seen another line of work like this!!! sm
I'm not a spring chicken, and I'm not naive, and I've been in this business for "only" a mere 12-13 years. I'm sure there are plenty of MTs out there who will tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, for this reason.

However, I've been in business for myself in other lines of work. I can honestly say I have never seen such a negative, oppressive, self-denigrating line of work as this.

I don't know a single other profession where it is NOT acceptable to find coverage for yourself (yes, at the risk of losing your client) so that you can get the rest that every human deserves.

Again, this individual TRIED TO GET COVERAGE and the client will not LET her. You are preaching to the choir!!!

Unreal. Just unreal.

As for rates, for most industries, if you know where to look, you can find them. The Internet is a big place.
You might want to look into another line of work.

I won't work per line. $15-19/hr

Are you going into another line of work?
