If you have your own account and no longer want to do it, how long is proper notice?

I have a very small account that is way too much aggravation.  They have abbreviated things so much and nickeled and dimed me to death.  Plus the dictation is bad.  I'm making almost no money.  I am thinking of telling them they need to find someone else.  How long a period of time (notice) should I give them before I'm done?

Sorry, but my account goes by proper English grammar rules
not that made-up garbage from the AAMT.
how long of a learning curve w/ new account?

Good morning everyone ... I'm starting at-home work this week for a new hospital, out of my area.  How long should I expect of a learning curve?  It's been a while since Ive done NEW accounts !

How long does it take you guys to get up to par - and that money starts really pouring in?  I did a few reports this weekend - and between the strange names, accents, procedures - it's going to take me a while before I'm lucrative.

What's your experience w/ new accounts ?

Thanks everyone!

JoJo

I hope I hang in long enough to get familiar with account
mostly not medical error, this doctors wants it this way, that doctor wants it that way, and with a base of 700 doctors, that's hard to remember. You can add headings, then when you add heading, they delete them... next time, I don't add heading and they add it... suppose to type names as dictated (if spelled), otherwise type "the patient"... next they correct it and put "the patient" where I typed the name, etc.   Does one EVER get used to all the rules/regulations?
I hear ya! That's why I quit. I put up with the crappiest account for way too long and finally

Proper education? LOL
This is not a regulated or licensed industry. There is no "proper education".

MT schools give a beginner level of knowledge and maybe a little touch on doing dictation but there's no "proper education" to be had here.

I've done this 25 years. I've never had "proper education". I was trained on the job. I was an EMT when I started my first MT job.

And please, stop comparing MTs and nurses like attorneys and paralegals. Those ARE regulated industries. Certification is necessary and a degree necessary.

Get over yourself. ROFL
and maybe some proper spelling

There was a post with the proper
That's all.  Nothing real juicy or anything.
I would spell it out; don't know what is proper

what's so funny about proper transcription? nm

Learn proper English...
YOU BE HAPPY THERE - Perhaps you be stupid?
How about constructing some proper sentences?

med-surg floor. It's not a proper name. NM

people who are attracted to something that is not proper.
Instincts are not always in one's best interest and to follow those interests doesn't make it right.
Who decides proper? If these two cowboys sm
lived alone with each other and didn't get married and pretend they weren't gay they still wouldn't be proper, right? They couldn't win for losing your book, right? It's views like your that push gay kids to committ suicide rather than live in YOUR world and deny how they were born. And they are BORN that way and here's how I know-who would CHOOSE such a behavior knowing how half of society would shun them??? Who would CHOOSE to be ridiculed and made fun of? Who would CHOOSE to be judged the rest of their lives not on who they are but who they live with???? I know a lot of women married to creeps who I don't judge because of their husbands, judgement by association is cowardly. Why don't you get to know PEOPLE and judge them accordingly based on WHO they are not WHAT they are??
Proper way to submit resignation?
How much information does one have to include in a resignation? Just the date effective? Do you need to give the reasons in the resignation?  TIA!
proper diagnosis!!! for my exhusband too...LOL...sm
but it isn't really funny and I'm not really laughing.....it was him or my sanity, as I posted below, and my sanity won out but you have put the proper diagnosis on it because I've been saying for 20 years, he was/is a passive aggressive.....always pointing the finger, placing blame and never looking inside himself as maybe it's him who is/was the problem......(also a triple virgo male *LOL* sun, moon, rising-ascendant).
Proper nouns get capitalized...sm
I know, I know, they all have their opinion; but as far as I know, the correct way is if they don't say the "Proper" name of the area then it is just a common noun, which does not get capitalized.

Ex:
St. Mary's Emergency Room
The emergency Room

West Central Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic
Referred to an ear, nose, and throat clinic.

The account specifics might say different.

Here's one for you:

When you are typing your resume, and you want to say you have experience in clinic notes, do we capitalize Clinic Notes? I'm seeing it both ways. I would say "no" but want to make sure.

TIA!
Either you know proper English or you don't. It's not something you turn on and off. nm

...your E-mails have to have proper English and punctuation.
Am I alone?
Well, this is America and the proper spelling is check.

they don't move the post to proper board....sm

the moderators may remove a post/thread but they don't replace it on the proper board - that would be your own thing to do.

HTH (hope that helps!)

I agree with capitalizing proper nouns only. sm
That is the proper way in the English language. Unfortunately, that may not be what BOS recommends. :(
I have a theory about grammar, proper English going the way of
the dinosaur.  I am beginning to think that with all the ESLs who cannot speak English, that everyone else has totally forgotten how to conjugate verbs, have no idea what sentence syntax means, understand the relationships of nouns to verbs, etc.  I am wondering how long it will take before no one makes much sense and it really bothers me.  I see paragraphs where truly, it is difficult to tell exactly what is being said, what relates to what.  I long for the days when I had an ESL who wanted me to correct her, even to the point of completely reworking her sentences to sound better.
What is the difference between an acute care account and a multispecialty account??..nm

If the dictators could speak proper English and enunciate clearly,

if the supervisors didn't bounce MTs off of QA in less than a week and then gripe at everyone about leaving blanks, if the account specs were clearly delineated, if the pay was worth a darn, if the QA feedback was constructive and consistent, then maybe the MTs would care about quality and loyalty.

Poor sound quality, looking up proper names, sm
switching from one account to another, not enough work, repetitive stress injuries, accounts continually changing they way they want things done, uninvited guests, slow ISPs, inability to get broadband, accounts having server problems, lack of proper reference materials at hand (meaning MT word books and dictionaries), relying on Google 100%, visiting this and other boards, chocolate cravings, food cravings, extreme boredom, extreme fatigue, delirium.

Proper or pretentious to use *AA* (assoc/arts) after one's name professionally? (nomsg)
xx
I've never had a problem switching from account to account.
The problem I had was being switched too soon. If I don't get one account spec solidly in my memory with QA feedback on mistakes before starting another, I get confused. The other problem I had with former jobs was inconsistent QA. One person tells you one thing, another person tells you another.

Lately, I don't have a problem with it. Right now, my binder has 8 account specs (some I've never had to use) and I'm picking up a new weekend job for a while. The terminology and report formats stay basically the same. It's just all those little preferences. LOL
Black IS proper evening formal attire. Sounds gorgeous.

way off topic wedding present question - is there proper etiquette on the amount a guest must (sm)
spend on the wedding present?   I have known people who hardly know the bride and groom yet spend $75 to $100 on a present.  Is this now the expected/correct amount to spend?  I was inclined to spend $25.  Am I being cheap?
I hate Instant Text. It is expensive, long long learning
curve, and too much distraction for me.
How long should I wait after applying for a position before I follow-up. It has been as long as two
without hearing from some.  Just wondering if I should send an e-mail to follow-up to see if they received my resume or not.  I don't want to offend anyone but feel two weeks should be long enough for someone to at least acknowledge my resume and that I have applied for a position.  Right now I would accept anything even a note saying no thanks.  Any advice would be appreciated.  I haven't had to apply for a job for the past 10 years so I am a bit rusty at this.  Thanks again for any advice.
The truth will set you free and the truth is more low level income people w/o education or proper
skills to keep up their home or train their children live in trailer homes and low income housing. If that sets you off, maybe you should not visit these threads or read the posts regarding others viewpoints on trailer parks. They have zoning laws against them in many communities because they draw undesirable people are not particularly pleasing to the community as a whole, bringing property values down. If you have issues with this, seek out the government in various communities and have them change the laws. Fact is fact and you cannot dispute these facts.
The longer
you are in the business and have more expanders, the less errors you tend to make. You are then able to do more scan proofing (mostly to make sure you typed the expansion properly and didn't cause something bizarre to pop into the report).

I am still pretty green. I try to notice what I can while I type and always go back through it (and find something more to correct).

Some reports are much easier to proof than others. The long detailed ones that are harder to type are more difficult to proof as well. I have a hard time keeping my mind from wandering to personal issues, etc. while proofing those.
Congrats! How long have you been a MLS and how long did you study for the test!

Please see message. I have three daughters with long, long hair.
I also have long hair down to my waist and my three girls have hair that long too. My daughter brought them home from school last year. I was devestated and grossed out!!!! I have never had to deal with lice. Anyway, we did the treatments and two of my girls broke out in a severe rash with the OTC stuff. Their little heads were so sore!! I thought I was being meticulous with eggs, only to find them hatching again down the road. A nurse at the pediatricians office suggested I try oil to suffocate them since my girls were allergic to the lice solution. I bought a huge bottle of veggie oil and dumped it on all three heads, plus my own. I then wrapped the heads in platic wrap and then a towel. I left this on for 30 minutes. It takes a while to wash out the oil, but we never, ever had the lice or eggs again!!! If you try this, make sure you put on an old shirt and put a towel around your shoulders. Obviously we were desperate, but we all have such long hair and very thick hair so I was willing to try anything. And I figured there was no chemicals involved so that was pretty safe. And it sure did help my littles ones since their scalps were pretty raw from the solution. Hope this helps and Good luck!
It's been a long, long time since I've used a C-phone, sm
but I do think jobs can be paused.
Lots longer
I don't know - I've been an MT over 25 years, am a super fast typist, use expanders, and have a great platform and accounts, and it takes me a good 5-6 hours, with a 15 minute stretch break here and there, to make 1000 lines.  Bad dictators - a good 8 hour shift to make 1000.
*a little longer than usual...

If her first initial was J, they are no longer in

Don't wait any longer...sm
contact an attorney.  You don't have to pay the attorney until he gets your money, then it's a certain percentage.  I know it's a killer to have to pay, but if you don't you're probably not going to ever be paid.  I had to sue a client for 3K.  I still walked away with a good hunk of the money and my pride.  It was well worth what I had to give the attorney.
WC does not cover CPS any longer. They sm
have determined that it is not caused by typing. Can you believe that?????
oh goodie - we no longer have to see her!!

Working probably longer than you have
been on this earth. I have worked over 30 years in this. I do work for an agency as have been outsourced twice from hospital work, always at a lower rate than the hospital. The first hospital I made nearly 60 thousand a year, outsourced, dropped 20 thousand in the new hospital, outsourced and now my salary per year in the 20s. I do operative notes, discharge summaries, history and physicals, consultations and my pay is about yours, 7 cents a line- most of the time you are just expected to produce more- we used to have production (incentive)- some might still have but probably few and far between. If I had to raise a family now, would have to work more than 1 job to do. This is me- I am not speaking for others even though my speed is extremely high. I put my all into my job, have answering machine, no interference, have office set up in my home, have fax (because I need 1 just for my own use), printers, phones, my own computer and a backup in case this 1 goes. Your tapes definitely sound like the real McCoy. That is what we hear day in and day out. I started out with a hospital almost 70% ESL, oh, so hard, well even the English were also and even now after all these years still grit my teeth sometimes just to do a certain dictator. Good luck!
I no longer use satellite, but used
DirecWay when I had it.  Service was about $70/mo.  Download speed is not consistent.  Most of the time it was fast, but sometimes as slow as dial-up.  It depends on if it is raining, snowing, wind blowing and tree may be blowing in front of the dish, if it is real cloudy, etc.   Upload speed is much slower than download, but upload files are usually much smaller so it doesn't take long.    I had trouble with e-mail, though they have upgraded equipment and supposedly the equipment comes with the software installed and configured already so basically you just plug it in and you're ready.   I paid $800 for my equipment  years ago - that included dish and 2 modems.   The newer modems are a lot more expensive.
Delete them.........esp if you no longer do them...

For private MDs, I only keep their diskettes 6 months, since ALL the work and an additional diskette has been provided when I returned the work.........

If you worked for a national, you need to send the diskettes to them I would think.........that is, IF you worked for a national MT company.  If not, I'd just delete them..........keeping the floppies for myself.........for future....(yep, I still use floppy disks...*LOL*).........

they no longer pay for proofing
Just kidding.
I know, I know...
Proofing is very important. Patient care is at stake.
And so are our jobs.

I have been MTing longer than you and get this
When starting VR was also told I should be using the function keys. My "new"(outsourced) job of years even went so far as to show us where we were using the mouse as opposed to the keys. I have never used the function keys and do over 3000 per day, my lines have increased since VR and have worked NOT using the function keys now for several years and it works ok for me. Did they threaten you with not using the function keys???
No longer confused
Now, that makes sense to me!
