Internet speed requirement for Chartnet?

Posted By: Ja Ja on 2008-11-04

My company is in the process of moving to Chartnet and are saying the optimum internet speed is 3000 Kbs upload, 600 Kbs download. At best, I get 1200 Kbs upload, 400 Kbs download, but often less. I have no other internet options where I live. Am I going to have a lot of problems? Thanks in advance.

High speed internet
If you have an internet-based platform, you don't need to use a phone line with high speed internet.  I managed to get rid of a second phone line that way.  The company pays for the intenet.
High speed internet
My high speed internet is received via a small satellite dish mounted on my house.  It is pointed toward a tower where the signal is sent.  It does not require a phone line at all.  It works on the same principle as a satellite dish, only for internet.
high speed internet
I have satellite and thought it couldn't be used for MT work at home....do you use it for MTing? Thanks for reply!
Does your son have high speed internet???
If so get vonage for your long distance. I just unplug my Vonage and take my router and I have my own phone line anywhere I have high speed internet.
if you have high speed internet
you shouldn't have any problems - I typically download a 43 minute file in about 2 minutes ... the bonus is the file is always there waiting for me so I can take a quick bathroom break, I can "rewind" to hear problems again, etc. To me, downloading files is MUCH easier than doing Dictaphone but JMO.
Question about Internet speed

Does anyone know what speed Internet an MT should have?  I have cable (but didn't purchase the fastest) and have run tests on a free site to check it, but I'm not really sure what I am looking for as far as results.

Also, I am the one who posted about routers.  I failed to ask before if the router can also affect the speed performance of the computer and, if so, what to look for there.

Any help much appreciated!

Use high speed internet. No offense taken. nm

Vonages requires high speed internet...

so you would need either DSL/cable or broadband.  I have broadband and hooked up to Vonage for 2 months for C-phone use.  The audio quality was frequently poor and I would have to reboot.  Some days I would just hook up to my home phone line to avoid the hassle.  The kicker was when I went to disconnect this month, they charged me $97 TO CANCEL!  Its all in the fine print, apparently.

My audio problems may well have had to do with broadband/satellite service more than anything.  If you have cable/DSL it may be worth a shot, but know that if you cancel after their 30-day trial you are going to pay!

Any experience using Embarq high-speed internet?

Hi, wondering if anyone has experience with Embarq for phone/high-speed internet access.  They merged/absorbed Sprint a while back, apparently. They are the only provider for a nearby small town and I'm wondering if it's even a good idea to move there...

Thanks!

My high speed internet is through our local t.v. cable company. nm.

Well, the first thing you'll need is a high speed internet connection if you don't already hav

it.  You'll want to invest in a foot pedal that you can connect to your PC.  I'd check out the pedals on transcriptiongear.com or check out Ebay.  I've found a lot of useful MT equipment on ebay for really reasonable prices.  I have an Infinity USB pedal that works nicely and I bought it off of Ebay.  You'll need to download ExpressScribe or another program so you will be able to play back sound files using your pedal.  That will make it a lot easier for you to test with some of the national companies as they generally have .wav files that you'll need to transcribe and send back before they will make an offer.

Once you've landed a job, the bigger companies generally will provide you with whatever software required to do their work and some provide you with all the equipment you'll need.  However, some will require you to use your own PC and will want you to have the latest version of Word.

That should get you started.

Anyone on the high speed internet that has found it just crawling along for some reason. All of a
sudden my just goes into web sites at a crawl and my computer is fine and modem seems fine.  No clue what is going on.
I have a KVM switch and using cable for my high-speed internet so what i needed ... SM

to connect my second computer to the internet was simply the ethernet cord along with the KVM switch box.  I actually work with a router, but it was simple to set up and works like a charm.

No set requirement here!
I don't really have a set requirement as far as minutes per day goes but I take about 60 minutes each day give or take, Monday-Friday and sometimes Saturday depending.
qa REQUIREMENT
My firm requires 84-100 per day/or until all work for that day is complete. We work on salary.
I think there must also be a requirement
I have worked for a few different companies.  My supervisor at each one either had yappy dogs, whiney kids or both.  Once I was speaking to my sup and her husband started going off about something in the background.  I don't think there is a single person with a quiet house who works in management at any of these companies.
one more requirement

One thing the office needs is to be able to view the file, make changes if necessary, and have the changes easily accessible to the other computers within the office.

Also, the capability to search within a document for a pt is also needed without having to open each file to do the search.  They want to be able to do a search of all files and locate a patient.  I usually do one file a day for each doctor and put all of his patients in that file in Word.  I don't want to have to make a separate file for each patient as that would be way too time consuming.

Any ideas?  TIA

increase speed 3, decrease speed 2...sm
increase backspace 9, decrease backspace 8. At least that's what mine does.
Can't, account requirement

What's their line requirement?

What's the work like?

"account requirement" was what I got...
because is certainly is proper..I try to think that it's because the record might be easier to read that way. This job must be much easier for the new ones than old ones like me who have to "unlearn" the proper way of doing things.
Obvious what 1 requirement is...
Obvioulsy one of the requirements of becoming an MT is rudeness and being quick to judge! I was just asking for suggestions and what being an MT entailed. In no way did I suggest that I had any idea about what MT requires of a person. Sheesh!
I know if someone posted on the engineering forums I am a part of I would be more than happy to give them suggestions on how to get started, different paths they could take, ect. Then again, I like to impart my experience so maybe I can help others learn from my mistakes so they don't have to make the same ones.

Obviously MTs work from home for a reason - seems that most of you don't work well with others!! Only 1 person actually took my post for what it was and told me their experience!! That's a real shame.
What PC requirement is good for an MT IC?
I am an IC MT and would like to buy a new PC, but I am at a complete loss as to what the new norm is regarding PC systems for transcription.  I would like to also buy Dragon Naturally Speaking Prefferd, so I need something that is compatible with that program too.  Does anyone have any advice on what make, hard drive, memory size, and Word program is best to use?  I have heard that all new PC's come with Vista and have heard many complaints regarding that program, so that concerns me.  Thanks~
MTSOs put into their requirement list
what kind of speed internet they ask. DSL is the fastest and I think dial-ip the slowest.

Tell that to the President and congressmen/women that should be a requirement sm
and lets see what happen LOL
ChartNet
Has anybody used this platform?  Migrating to it from Word and concerned about the "learning curve."  Any comments on ease of use?  Wondering how many (if any) use it besides us or if it is proprietary.
ChartNet
That's definitely reassuring!  Thanks!  How long did it take you to "get up to speed" as far as your quota?  Are you able to keep up with your lines or are you flying in the dark?
Chartnet
I went from DictExt, to Chartnet, and now back to DictExt. I definitely miss Chartnet. It is very efficient and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
Chartnet
It is by far the BEST platform I have ever used.  Have been around the block on hospital-based platforms for years.  And while it pains me to say this, prior to using chartnet, the best platform I had used prior  to that was the DQS system from MQ.  (pthewy!)  Well let me tell you, Chartnet just FLIES away compared to DQS.  It is extraordinarily efficient.  My line counts easily doubled.  Give it a shot!  You won't be disappointed.  BTW, I am not exactly a tekk wizard, so if I could do it, anyone can. Good luck to you and spend all your extra cash wisely!
ChartNet
Alright, then!  Bring it on!  Thanks ladies.
Chartnet
Have used chartnet while working in house, now working at home for same hospital, but cannot access reports previously typed which I was able to do in house.
ChartNet
Have used chartnet while working inhouse.  Have been set up at home from the same hospital using the same system.  However, I cannot access old reports to review them.  Any suggestions.
Chartnet?
Does anyone know of ANY company that is hiring that provides Chartnet for their transcriptionists?  I heard it is a a big timesaver and easy to use, especially for non-tekkies like myself.  Appreciate the info, THANK YOU!
ChartNet
SPI Healthcare Documentation uses Chartnet. I think it is very user friendly.

Also Premier Office Transcription.  Small company but friendly, honest, and reliable pay.  Gotta love ChartNet!
Chartnet
CyMed also uses Chartnet.
I use Chartnet and need to know how...
to backup my expanders.  Does anyone know how to do this?  Do I use a disk?  I read about using a thumb drive or data stick.  No idea how to use this either.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.
Chartnet
Is that the web-based program by Chartscript? My hospital is moving to it also. They said by 1st quarter of this year but no news yet. We had a presentation on it and it looks pretty good.
ChartNet
I've worked on Chartnet for about 1-1/2 years and like it. Send me a private note if you have specific questions. You can see some screen captures here: http://www.hudson-medical.com/cn-transcription.htm
ChartNet
I worked on Chartnet for several years, and after just about a half hour of training, I was back up to 1500 lines a day!  It is the best, THE BEST, platform out there as far as I'm concerned.  I'm working with ExText out there and words cannot express how much I detest it.  Dictaphone never did have a clue.  Go with ChartNet.  Your employees will adore you!
Chartnet
Sorry I cannot answer your question regarding internet speed but wondering if you can tell me what company is going to Chartnet.  I was under the impression that SPI bought that program exclusively.  I loved working on Chartnet for Cymed.  Did not love working for SPI.  Thanks in advance.
Used to work at a place that measured productivity by minutes. Minimum requirement was 90 min. SM

in an 8.5 hour day or 7.5 productive hours (minus 30 minutes for lunch and two 15 min. breaks).  Don't know if that helps.  Also I've heard that it will take the average productive MT twice as long to type as to dictate, i.e. a 5 minute job will take an MT 10 minutes to type without interruptions.  So figure 90 minutes of dictation is going to take at least three hours to type and probably a little longer if you figure in interruptions like phone calls, kids, etc.

For me, I would probably say 120-130 minutes would equal an 8 hour day.

Don't know if I've helped, but I hope so.

Internet based transcription - need advice on how to go internet
Can anyone offer any help/advice on how go about becoming internet based from a call in system, or how to keep the call in system for the docs and put transcriptionists on the internet?  Not sure where to start to get information on how to go about doing this. Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks.
I have been using the ChartNet platform for
the past 9 months and love it. It is a word-based platform and very easy to learn and use. I find it to be very productive. There are also several features that I especially like, such as being able to access reports previously dictated by a physician for reference and the ease of entering shortcuts. Give it a try.
ChartNet to EXText
Has anyone moved from Chartnet to EXText lately? If so, were you able to move your expansions to EXText?
Does any company use chartnet?
I think Chartnet was the best plateform I've every typed in and I haven't heard of any companies who use it anymore.  Does anyone know of a company that uses it?  I would love to work in it again.
Meditech-ChartNet

Any information on Meditech-ChartNet would be extremely helpful.

TIA.

Chartnet by Chartscript
Is anyone working on Chartnet by Chartscript? Would like to know your opinion on it. My hospital is moving to it soon.
