figure they werent going to win that lawsuit. Wonder what else they are going to do. They reduce ASR, they load the accounts with tons of MTs and we need either tons of backups or just a few and then have no work, what next.

MQ supposed miscalculation
I worked for MQ yeeeears ago, when they were new, so let me assure you they have been caught before making "miscalculations" in their pay before. This was before the new platform, of course, and they had to send me a check for over $700.

check for miscalculation of lines
i've been with them for 3 and the same here. do they think that we're really that stupid -- they're going to send us a check in the mail with no backup to show us how they "miscalculated" the lines?
Well supposed to be working and GUESS WHAT NO WORK AGAIN AT AMHERST MQ. No doubt in my mind that
they could care less about the MT, if you make money or starve. These people are absolutely crazy. There is no doubt in my mind.

We'll see how long it takes for the second one to come.
You're supposed to plant them in beds and line the bed with chicken wire and then place the bulbs

on top of the wire and cover.  This keeps the critters from getting to them, but is a lot of work.

hmmm, guess I could check the archives and see how many "original posters"
with similar questions have posted their names? I also don't think the names I posted are that uncommon, and only those who work for DSG would know whom I'm speaking about.  My post certainly did nothing to hurt their reputations--quite the opposite, in fact.
Thanks ... guess I'll have to check it out some time ... like I need to find more ways to goof of

Probably 5 years. I would have to guess
you get.  It also depends on how much time is put forth working at it.  If you are an average typist, you may not make much.  You have to be able to type pretty fast to make good line counts.  This is just my opinion though.  Medical terms can become easier with spell check, word expanders, etc.  I personally do not use a word expander, but I've been at this a long time, so I think it would slow me down.  I'm set in my ways I guess.  The other factor for "okay" money is whether you work for a company full-time or you have your own accounts.  Sometimes, you can get by working your own account part-time if you catch my drift.
8 cpl was an example, not my line rate; however, my guess
would be the overall charge to the client to cover overhead, etc, would vary, depending on the size of the companies (both service and client), the state/region the client is in, degree of difficulty, platforms, quantity/quality of dictators, turnaround time, how the work is to be transferred, possible retainders, competition...

I have no idea, I'm the LAST guy to get paid.

I guess the bottom line is
can I make a decent living doing mostly VR at 4 cpl?
This is just a sarcastic guess, but I'm assuming by the line - sm
why else would there be so many mistakes. If they were paid by the hour, maybe they would spend more time on getting to know the ENGLISH language. I actually had a report come back from India where instead of the word "children" it said "litter."
I don't know how to off-line instant messenger....guess I'm
tooo stupid. WOW, thanks for clearing that up! Have a great day!!!!
I would guess with that high of a line count

that it has less to do with her Expander and more to do with a really good combination of doctors.  Sounds like you are doing great with 350 lines an hour -- an expander will probably push you up to 400 to 450. I wouldn't expect it to double.

I guess so! I betcha make your new line count!! NM

I guess the bottom line is any one of us would go back to in-house... SM

given the chance.  I re-read my previous post to you and I sounded like a b*tch and I wanted to apologize.  You sound like a very positive person who takes criticism and not so pleasant advice very diplomatically.

If your problems with your boss are more of a personal nature, rather than the quality or quantity of your work, I would maybe go over her head.  You already have an adversarial relationship with her anyway, so why not get it on record that you feel she is treating you unfairly?  Or maybe confront her yourself?  I would probably do the latter.  I'm not someone that can bite my tongue which probably explains why I work by myself at a computer all day rather than in customer service!

Just an FYI, I actually am starting an in-house MT job at a hospital tomorrow!  I've decided that if they try to lay me off in favor of outsourcing, I'm just going to refuse.  I'm going say "nope, I'm sorry, I refuse to be laid off.  I'm going to get back to work now."  I wonder what they would do?

Check out OTI, it's all by the line.

it would seem to me that you, with your experience, should let her know being a nurse alone does not make 1 a good MT. Like I said, I think a person should get some education in this field, having an RN does not necessarily mean a good transcriptionist. I cannot believe the posts I read on this thinking what a dream job just because I, want to stay home with the kids, want to keep my animals company and think easy because I don't have to leave my home to work. Any MT worth their salt does not do this job just for selfish reasons.

Check out copywriting law on line--sm
It appears that most of the info there is for advertisements and such, but I am sure you could find some useful info there. There is even a site where you can do your OWN copywrite, for a price of course. I did not get that far into it to see how much it cost. Check it out.
Guess that means my husband is doomed....quit 15+ years ago (46 now)--GF had lung cancer
so either cancer will get him (his dad had bladder cancer, doing fine now but it did recur and lost his kidney about 10 months ago)...figure either cancer or cirrhosis will get him (drinks 8-12 "light" beers a day...for over 20+ years). So can you say semi-young widow?? (39). Naw....he will probably live forever, which is good.....lots of longevity in his family despite the cancer. Good.

On-line canceled check shows that it was for $200.46.
But check was written for $246.00. Geeze...I was called by someone with an Indian accent this morning (Sunday!) who wanted immediately to get the cash deficient and so I had to do that. Will call tomorrow and figure out who made the mistake. Thanks for all your replies. Yes, Wells Fargo is going to be history soon.
It's 12:00 noon, time for a line check.

I ordered on-line with no problems. Just check and double

I am going to remove the LD from my home phone, and use the business line for all calls, then I will only have to pay about 35 above what I'm paying now. Not ideal, but the best deal I could find.

Please tell me you are not working for .07-.08 per line with 15+ years experience. SM
Sweetie, I would rather work at Walmart than settle for this. Not sure if you were referring to yourself; however, this is what is driving our payscale down. Speaking for myself only, I will not even consider working for a national who pays under .10 line (bare minimum). I have many years of experience and truly appreciate and understand the need to have a job in this field, but there is a fine line to draw. Let's avoid desperation and take back our pride.

Sounds line 11 years of no transcription that you might start with
some refresher tapes that you buy to help you get readjusted. It's like riding a bike, right? Then I wouldn't buy anything else until you get a job. You could spend tons of money on things that you might not need. I bought Microsoft Word, spellchecker, expander, etc, just to find out that company supplied and I didn't need.
Absolutely OPs only! Great pay and line count - been doing only Ops for 12 years now! nm

I didn't increase my line rate for over 10 years!
I am an IC and have one office of three physicians as well as work for a smaller MTSO and have to totally agree with what MTSO said. You have to take into consideration so many things. Do we deserve a raise, you betcha - I think most of us do. However, if you are making good money, love the accounts, and things are working well for both sides, are you willing to jeopardize them shopping elsewhere? I haven't been, but due to the increase in gas prices which are now going to be reflected in many other ways in our cost of living, I find I really need to increase my rate and I did. I sent a memo and simply stated that in 30 days the billing would reflect a 1 cent/line rate increase. Yes, I held my breath waiting for the phone to ring or the OM asking to speak to me in her office but so far I have not heard anything. I am not sure if this is good or bad but I think they have had a great deal for 10 years and I deserve a raise and I need to increase my rate just due to cost of living.
12 cents line enjoy it. makin less now than 10 years ago
MTs used to be able to make $.  Right now I make less than I ever had.  Glad I make 9 cpl.  Don't expect raises.   Been there along with your mom.  OUTSOURCED.   Right now I pay over $500 month for benefits - single mom.  Cost of living is a joke.   Go with the flow and grab your 12 cpl while you can, don't be shocked by a reduction, hope it never  happens to you but it has to me.
The above poster is right. Sadly, I've been on Escription for four years and my line counts
were going down. Apparently, the hospital decided we were being overpaid so they manipulated the way were paid i.e. footers, headers etc. They could change it to whatever they wanted and the MTSO did nothing as they wanted to keep the contract.  So we had to suck up and take the reduction, along with the fact that all of our work was/is being sent to India so it's slim pickens most days unless you want the crappy accounts.  I would ask a lot of questions, but as a whole, Escription accounts and the companies who have it rarely like to pay a decent livable cpl. A gross line is anything on a line is a line. A line set at 65 characters means it sm
has 1-inch margins on each side. The maximum number of characters on that line would be 65 and that includes spaces. If there is 1 character on that line it is a line.

A standard 65-character line usually consists of 65 characters with spaces unless, of course, the employer does not pay for spaces and then it would be 65-characters without spaces.

DID you check with Social Security& does your son receive a check???

Go to SSA.gov and research the payee options.  You may have to use the search engine, but your answer to this particular issue should be there.

I am disabled and while my kids were minors, I had to fill out a form each year on how I, as the payee spent each and every penny of the money they received.  I don't see how his mother can justify how she spent his money for things that you normally would pay.

That said, he is getting Social Security right?  Is your son receiving a dependent check?  Under law, if a parent is disabled and has minor children, each and every one of those children also receive a check until they turn 18 or graduate from high school, which ever comes first.

The check is a percentage of your husbands, so for 800.00, your son should receive at least 350.00.  If you have not been getting this, they would pro-rate it back to when your husbands disability started and that in itself, could solve a lot of your financial problems.  You can also find this out on their website,  HTH
