What would you be doing today if you didn't have to work?
I'd be sitting outside in the sunshine reading a book and watching the kids play in the kiddie pool.  Hmm, sounds good to me.  I wonder how fast I can get this work done.  oi!
Yep, I had to work today, didn't get dinner started until 1:30
So just got done with dinner at 5 pm!! But just thankful to have a job at home where I got to spend the day with my daughter, rather than if I would have had to go out to work today, like some people did! Maybe someday I will get the holiday off, but this is second best!
It is kind of scary. I stopped at 4:30 a.m. today because I figured I'd better sleep some. sm
At least the power of suggestion had me concerned...I seemed more productive though, got almost 2 times the lines in I would have otherwise, because I knew I had to get to sleep earlier. If everyone were like me though those overnight early morning stats would not meet TAT. But then again, an early grave might not be worth worrying about a couple of hours TAT after all...
Stopped getting work in the middle of Dec and found a new job.. however he
There are some who work locally to the office.  Has anyone asked them if the office is open?  I live in a different state.  What a royal mess!
I gave two weeks notice... but stopped doing their work FIRST
Since they refused to give me a raise after 7 years of loyal service to 3 doctors full-time, i gave me 2 weeks but didn't do their work in my 24-hour TAT window because I was SO p*ssed. I got it done "on my time" at that point. I have a hot head i can't help it... plus it was a huge slap in the face when not only they weren't giving me a raise, they expected my paychecks to decrease because they were mad they were paying for templates! we seriously were like a little family... that was three months ago and im STILL hurt about it...
HELP with Shorthand. Suddenly today when I tried to start work today.sm

my ShortHand would type only the first letter of an expansion and then take all the letters away!  I checked and the Type It button is grayed out!  I have restarted the computer and looked on the Shorthand Help menu but can find nothing that applies.  Can anyone please help me ASAP?  I am lost without it!  TIA

Didn't see him today..
I noticed on Friday he was really upset. Geraldo showed up on Friday and was immediately losing it. Imagine if he had been there all week like Shep had.
1:30 pm to 3:00 pm = 980. Didn't start til later today. nm

I went to Subway today and didn't get my stamps. sm

I could not believe it. I asked if I could have my Subway stamps and the clerk said they no longer give them out.

Why? Because somebody sold a whole roll of the stamps on ebay.

Former employee?  Gee ya think?

Snatched some of these. Here's one I didn't see listed (see inside)

I didn't go into labor until 2.5 weeks later, so it didn't work. Sorry!...nm

All I know is it caused the company I work for to be unable to do all work due today and the rest
:+
I tried Relacor, it didn't work because I wanted it to work without
my trying to really lose weight, i.e., dieting.

My true belief is that any product will not work unless you TRY yourself. I had 20+ lb loss with Metabolife (sp?) and really felt more energy.

BUT, I truly believe if I don't really try, nothing will work to make me lose weight. Please know, I'm right there with you and wish there were a magic pill that could make the lbs just shed away.
OUT OF WORK TODAY ALSO
I don't think it matters which office you are out of (below posts) so much as which accounts. I am out of the Denver office and usually have work, but occasionally run out, mostly on weekends, holidays, AND AT THE END OF THE PAY PERIOD. Darn! I knew I would "pay" for taking that 3 hour swimming break in the outdoor pool up at the lake yesterday. Sure was nice though...getting our last "licks" in for the summer!!
I'm sorry, but I can't work today.
Mercury's in retrograde, you know.
Did it work for you today? nm

Who should I work for today? DQS or other?

I'm skeptical about DQS today.  I have the option of working for one employer running the DQS platform, or my second job with another company, which is not on DQS.

Any work today?

Since there are no updates from the supervisors, I don't want to log in unless there's a reason.  I'm in the south region.

I think the idea of the time for posting re this stuff is a good idea.  It's 1:00 PM CST here.

Thanks.

Any other MQers out of work today?
I have been staring at a 'no jobs' screen all day (about 5 1/2 hours so far).  I even called the office (Denver).  Anyone else out of work? I am going out to check the mail and see if I have a check!!  (See below posts.)
anyone running low on work at MQ today

How's work flow going today?
No work with MQ and just checking to see how others are doing with January work flow.
work from home - see inside
I started working from home by word of mouth, but I got lucky. You can check your local newspaper classifieds, look online at all your local hospitals to see if they have openings and apply online, check out the job seeker's board on this forum, just be persistent and something will happen for you. Dont get discouraged - you just need to get your foot in the door.
Oh Calm Down Already!
Of course it's not a difficult field to get into, but dear it takes more than skills. Like nursing, it takes formal training! When are you willy nillys going to learn that? And a flying monkey? A flying monkey could become a nurse and a doctor and an attorney "with a little training." Ha.
Don't Get Mad, Get Calm
This girl is a wacko and you should just act like she is not even alive.  Yes, that's what I said, act like she is not even alive.  She is beyond wacked and from your comments (assuming they are all true) there is nothing anyone can say to make any relationship with her approach anything near normalcy, and in fact it will approach the nightmare category.  So to jumpstart your "hindsight" intuition (hmmmm, here's what I should have done in the beginning with this broad!), just ignore her.  She won't go away, but you do not need to interact with her.  Don't apologize, don't justify, don't explain yourself away (onto their deaf ears).  Like I said, she is just plain wacked in the head.
Calm down
If your husband told you about it, he is not hiding anything.  He could have not told you if you don't ever see the phone bill or his cell phone.  If you get so upset he will being to hide things.  It is not your place to call this woman, should you run into her you could say something but again you don't know the entire story.  Though it does sound a little questionable, perhaps there was a legitimate reason she was calling your husband's friend.  If you jump in too soon without all the facts you could turn out to be the fool.   You have to keep the communication open betwen you and your husband and don't jump down his throat.  Now don't think that I am one of those that just takes anything and everything from a husband as my husband was cheating, I caught him and divorced him but I don't think that this is the situation here and you cannot control the issue and calling this lady will only add flames as it is none of your business. But your husband also has to step aside and tell the two of them that if they are going to involve themselves in an affair, he will have no part of it by lying for his friend or covering for him.   But again, he told you about it when he did not have to and that speaks for itself but if you continue to react like this he won't.   You know what ASSUME means.   Take a deep breath and go on with life.
Calm down.
The time to refuse a job is before you accept it, not afterward. If you accept the work in the morning, the company has every right to expect it will be done. If you have another account that pays more then come along and want your service, that in no way relieves you of your first obligation, that being the work you took in the morning.

The person who seems to have nerve is the person who thinks that can accept work and then not complete it.

Here's an example that has nothing to do with MT but will illustrate the point just the same. You hire a painter to paint your living and he says yes, I'll be there on Monday morning. You make the accommodations necessary, expecting him to come and paint on Monday. He shows up, opens the paint can and starts to work. His cell phone rings around 10:00 and he's offered a job that pays more than you. According to your line of thinking, he's perfectly justified in leaving your job unfinished to work for someone else who pays more. When do you get your job finished? Does it ever get finished? Are you happy with the reason given? Are you likely to hire them again?

So, if anybody in this discussion has "nerve", it would be you. Until you're the employer, don't pretend to know what you're talking about.
Is Hurricane Dennis affecting anyone's work today?
  nm
Here's a funny typo for you. I saw this at work today on a chart.

BUT, you are brilliant. Keep up the good work! You are my hero for today! nm
.
I wasn't talking about stopping work today. Before we do
how many of us there are. We need to be locating and contacting MTs who don't use MT Stars or other MT boards, and start networking with them. Five or six of us from this board deciding to stop work today isn't going to change anything. We have to get our numbers up, and get all of our collective antennae pointed in the same direction.
Calm down my dear
Now don't be getting yourself so worked up you smear that beautiful red lipstick off your lips.

Actually, I am perfectly calm as well, but
people on this board seem rude and ready to jump on anyone for anything.... no wonder I rarely come here.
Easy now, calm down, it
was just an observation.
re your calm down statement...sm

Awful presumptive of you to assume I was not calm...just due to a few extra question marks?  As an American, I think it's safe to say that plenty here would kill first and ask questions later......I'm not that way.

I happen to be very calm and very rational.....

You need to chilll out and calm down -sm
you are being way too hard on yourself. I doubt any MT is 100% perfect 100% of the time. I know I am not. I know I am good though but that I do make mistakes sometimes. My mistakes are generally her instead of here, that is my big one, that sort of stuff. I know some slip through but I don't beat myself up about it. I proof as I type then take a quick look at the whole report when I am done, I am more thorough in my proofing with letters though. Where I work there is no QA, we direct submit to the client though at first another MT does check our work then we are cut loose to direct submit, generally a week or so at the most. If they feel we are not able to do that, you are let go, simple as that. Sounds like you are just putting too much pressure on yourself, yes you want to submit good error-free work but you have to cut yourself a little slack too. This is a hard line of work to be in if you are a perfectionist. Try to learn somehow not to be so hard on yourself, do the best that you can, maybe do a few reports then go back and check them after you get a few done, take a look at with fresh eyes if you can. Good luck.
Today is different and you cannot fight companies who LEGALLY can offshore work.
So all Americans refuse to buy goods, shop at stores, or work for companies who offshore.  That leaves a mess.  Do you realize a lot of American companies are actually owned by foreigners?  Get real and move into 2005.  You are going to spend a lot of time boycotting once you do the research.  I doubt you will be able to shop or work at all.
No, not me. I tried it at first, but it didn't work out.
I was in a corner of the living room for a long time.  Now I have my own office.
Didn't work for them ... but ....
They were the main caregivers for my dad in his last days. They were wonderful, not only for him, but also for us. They helped him let go, and he died so peacefully. Watching how sweetly they treated him, and explained things to us and answered ANY question we had was above and beyond. We can NEVER thank those folks for all they did.

Good for you, you'll be helping someone who will need you more than you know.
Thanks - tried that one too - didn't work.

That didn't work, either.
I was hoping that would work, but it didn't for me.
???what didn't work.

Sorry. Don't know why it didn't work, (sm)
but I pasted the URLs here. Wish the link boxes worked for me.

Tried that, didn't work...
I'll try again, maybe it's just the site that I'm downloading from.
Didn't work .......

Thanks for responding to my question. Apparently I must be using an old version of Meditech b/c it doesn't have that RTF option

Oh well, it didn't work...

I typed a short report in Word and tried to copy and paste into Meditech document, but it did not work

Didn't work but .. you
are so sweet! Researching it for me?? I should be doing that.

Actually I tried the help area but that didn't seem to help me either, although i'm certainly no whiz at Word!

Thanks so much!
didn't work for me
I tried doing it this way but found that I WAS working later every day and that just didn't fly with the hubby/kids. Now I do it just as if I had to go to work "outside"...get up at a specific time, shower/dress/coffee, then make sure I'm sitting at my desk by a specific time, scheduled lunch and 15 minutes breaks every 2 hours. That's the only way I get anything done but I also have a 4yo at home with me so I make sure that he has plenty of activities to do sitting at his "desk" next to me.
I did and it didn't work out well for me
but I want to say right away that I wouldn't want to deter anyone else from trying it. I tried to keep a full time job as well as a part time IC job and still homeschool my daughter. She had been in public school and we took her out for 2nd grade last year to homeschool. I used the Calvert curriculum which laid everything out for me each day, but I still found it difficult. I was worried about her having time with kids and getting out of the house sometimes, and the homeschool group we joined was just not very active. I had her in Brownies, dance, and swimming, and between trying to work full time plus, get her to and from all of her activities, and get the schooling in, it was just difficult for me. DH didn't really contribute too much other than sort of grilling me on what we got accomplished each day, so that didn't help. Also, while my daughter and I have a very close relationship (She was born when my older two kids were 16 and 13), we ended up clashing so much. She wouldn't read for me. She'd mumble the words under her breath as she read. It got to be a standoff each and every day. We just got so frustrated with each other. Plus, I would get behind on work and then have to start pushing back getting some of the schoolwork done, and then we'd get behind, and honestly it just got to be a mess.

Well, I could go on and on. I do want to say I loved having her with me each day in spite of the problems we had sometimes. We had a terrible winter in Wisconsin and it was so nice not to have to go out each day. I think it just wasn't a good fit for our family.

So, this year she is back in school but in a private, very small parochial school just 2 blocks from home. There are only 6 kids (all girls!) in her class, but they also do some things combined with the 2nd grade, which has 7 kids. She is having a great year so far, really thriving in that environment, and I kind of like that it's got a homeschool/co-op type feel with the small amount of kids and individualized attention that is possible with that.

Also, after school started, I started a run/walk program and in the last 2 months have worked up to being able to run 3 miles a few times a week. I'm not really a "me" time type of person either, but it's been nice to take a few hours a week and get out of the house and just do something by myself. I couldn't do that at all last year, partly because of homeschooling and partly because my DH is gone so much doing his own thing.

So in the end, I give so much credit to those that can work and homeschool... or heck, even those that homeschool and don't do other work besides everything we do as wives/moms. It's takes a stronger, better organized person than me to do it, that's for sure.
I did at first but it didn't work out that way...
I actually had gone to nursing school but that wasn't for me but I wanted to stay in the medical field...I just so happened to be pregnant with my first child when I was going through MT school so naturally I wanted to stay home...but I got a job in an office and worked there for almost 5 years before working at home...been at home for almost 5 years now...and my daughter, who is 2-1/2, is home with me now during the day until she starts preschool in the fall...and of course my son, who is 10, is in school...it is hard at times but it works for my family.
