Leg swelling

Posted By: old tired MT on 2005-11-13
In Reply to: Every day, after typing for a couple or hours or more, my right leg swells. sm - Anyone else experience this?

Hi: I had severe leg swelling this past summer and went to doctor and he gave me a diuretic, but it only cleared it up temporarily. I was on Cardizem for HBP and that drug is know to cause leg edema in some cases, so my doctor switched me to lisinopril and the swelling went away. I also had an EKG, which was normal and blood work to make sure it was not my heart. This may not pertain to you but seek medical attention anyways. Good luck.

right leg swelling
I had this occur this past summer. August 8th I had a heart attack at the age of 56. I had never had any swelling in my legs or feet prior to this time and thought I was perfectly healthy. This could certainly be a different thing for you, but I would urge you to get this checked.
Leg swelling
Yes, but nice easy solution cured it for me. It is called exercise. Run or walk 30 minutes every other day and hopefully you will not have the problem.
leg swelling
I have been transcribing for 23 years and have only recent experienced leg swelling. This after a change of jobs in home on-line MT where I have to clock in and out and stay put to produce lines. Walking daily for 40-50 mins will keep the swelling away. three to four times a week will keep it at a minimun. My arthritic knee with spurs has acted up as never before. Walking also helps. My brother who is a doctor, stated that our bodies are not made to stay put for so long.
swelling and/or warmth...........sm
Well, I hope it's nothing major and certainly not a DVT!!!  Happy you're going to see the doctor.
Swelling in the ankles

I have this problem too.   My doctor said basically that the fluid in your does not circulate around good when sitting for long periods of time and he recommended hose that I got at the Health Supply Store.  They are knee-highs and I just wear them most of the time when I am typing.  They are like Jobst stockings and make you legs feel really good.  They still swell a little but not half as much.  I also am on a daily BP/fluid pill too.  I think this is just a chronic problem that most MTs have.  I know my friends have aches and pains and now I think I am developing bursitis or tendonitis in my right forearm and elbow.   It is so painful.  My daughter sells Voltaren Gel and I am trying that.  Otherwise I am going to get it x-rayed but my mother has arthritis really bad so I expect this is hereditary and my job finally getting the best of me.  It hurts just to pick up the lightest weight object.  If I did not have to type for a week or two it most likely would feel better, but who can do that anymore.  Good luck.  Old and tired.

PAD does not cause swelling, venous insufficiency does
Arteries carry blood away from the heart, and veins carry blood to the heart.

It is venous insufficiency that causes swelling and blood clots. Support stockings will help to correct the swelling for a minor condition, but it is dangerous to sit for long periods of time, as one could develop a blood clot. A doctor should check you for this problem.

Arterial disease causes claudication, plaque formation, and gangrene.
I get swelling in my non-pedal foot. SM
I'm overweight too. I do find that when I exercise regurlary, which I haven't been lately, it improves.

I would bring it up with your physician if you are concerned.
Medical ?, tongue swelling...any ideas...Help

My husband (44) woke up in the middle of the night last night with his tongue swollen and hard.  It woke him up because it started to close up his throat and he is a mouth breather and could not breath.  He immediately took a Benadryl but was afraid to go to sleep.  He did eventually go back to sleep but I was awake every 30 minutes checking to see if he was breathing.  The left side of his face was also somewhat swollen.  He could not think of anything different that he ingested or came in contact with or any different activity.  This morning his tongue is still slightly swollen but better.  This really has me worried.  You have to understand first that mh DH is somewhat of a hypochondriac and is always afraid he has something wrong with him.  This was just so strange and out of the blue that not only he is worried but so am I.

All this comes after attending wake services of a friend's husband (age 45).  She now has two boys to raise on her own.  Just makes you stop and think.

Anyone have ankle swelling in their pedal foot? sm

Does anyone else have swelling in their calf/ankle/foot after a long day of typing?  Also I have shin splint symptoms in the anterior shin which I think may be from just overuse.  I have been doing this type of work many years and am overweight.  Just wondering if anyone else has these sort of symptoms because I am wondering if it is just from MTing and weight or if I need to go to the doc and get tests run.

Thanks
