My daughter was in preschool last year, 3 mornings a week. I would hear the same thing about her all the time. At the end of the year, they wanted her to go to the "junior kindergarten" which the school offered.  Looking at the curriculum, it was basically full day preschool, 5 days a week (and since it was a private school, it ran about $310 a month!). Her teacher pulled me aside when I was picking her up one day, just about a year ago, and said that there was no way she was ready for kindergarten. She said she was too "in her own world." She wasn't ready to sit and listen, was immature, etc., etc. I, too, came home and cried. We thought about home school at that point, but I know that I am not disciplined enough for that, just didn't have the time to work and do it as well as seek out social situations for her at the same time. So we just said forget it...we put her in the public school kindergarten. I figured I'd just get calls and notes home from the teacher, until they finally pulled her out when they realized she wasn't ready. So, guess what? No notes, no calls. First teacher conference...she was doing very well. She would ask the teacher a lot of questions that she already knew the answer to, but she was sitting at her table, participating etc. Last teacher conference in March, the teacher said she was just doing amazing. She was an angel and a joy in the class. She does her work, she participates, she gets along with the other kids. On her testing, as far as letters sounds, counting, etc., she's far ahead of where she should be. Again, I went home and cried..because I was so proud and so happy...and yes, I felt that the humiliation of a year ago (that teacher pulled me aside with many other parents around) had been vindicated. Good luck to you. It is going to be okay..really.

In other words, what type of sound file is it?  There are different sound file formats out there.  You may be able to play it in Express Scribe so you'd be able to use your footpedal.  It sounds as if you have your computer set to play certain sound files through QuickTime.  You're not using a Mac, are you?  Or do you have the PC version of Quicktime?

You can change the file association by single right clicking on the file, open Properties, then change Opens With by clicking the box to the right and selecting a different sound player.  Another way to do it would be to open Express Scribe (if that's what you're using, as long as it is compatible with your sound file type), then Open Dictation File and browse for the sound file.  Some of the sound files need patches from Express Scribe to be able to play, but the program and patches are free.

And yes, those companies that provide their lousiest dictation to test with are probably ones you wouldn't want to work for anyway, because the test file IS representative of the garbage they'll be pushing at you daily.  (Especially if you do really well on it!!!)

I just read below that a lot of you believe that Ray Nagin is a "hero" for speaking his mind, etc.  My DH just told me this morning that he read the evacuation plans for New Orleans and what the city and its leaders (Nagin being the main leader) were supposed to do in the event of a hurricane, flood, etc.  The manual stated that ALL public transportation was to be used to but the elderly, sick, poor, and those unable to get out to higher ground until the storm or catastrophe passed.  He did not do that. He got on tv and told those to get out. No public transportation or school buses were used to get these people out. 

I hate to judge, but I just cannot help but think that this guy is all talk and no action?  I don't know, sure does sound like it to me.  I too thought he was awesome, until my husband explained the evacuation procedures and how the city did nothing but warn of people to get out - and did not help them....

I know, sounds like the blame game and I am sorry if it sounds like I'm blaming.  I just can't help but state this when now the facts are coming to light.

I was working on a large file and had saved it in Word. I then went back to work on the file and hit a key that made the page go blank.  When I went to close the document it asked me to save any changes on the document. I answered yes, and now when I click on that document it is all blank! Shouldnt the previous info saved be there, even if the current stuff is not? Please help me!! Thank you

I am having problems with my sound on one of my computers.  Several different ExText program have been on it so I don't think it is the program and the sound is just now as clear as on my other computer.  Has anyone switched (disconnected the internal sound care and replaced) to a new sound card?  Did it make a difference. 

Everyone on this board is so knowledgeable, I really appreciate you.  You have helped me many times. 

Listen to your instincts.  You have gotten a lot of advice from this board and everyone means well, however, no one but you knows you situation completely. 

As far as your boyfriend, I have been in that situation.  I was "in love" with the person he "could become" but not at all happy with the person he currenlty was.  I was fooling myself into thinking he would become a better person.  One thing to remember is that it is impossible to change another person.  If he is not what you want or need, you will have to make the decision that is right for you and your children.

Debt is a life drainer.  It comes to a point that you are miserable because of debt.  I've been there too.  Again, do what you think is right but try not to strap yourself financially.

Despise rap and don't like country ... but I do enjoy the song "The Devil Came Down To Georgia." I'll pass on opera as well.

As the line goes from the movie:  I "had two 50s and moved right on into the 70s."

They know what they know and you are not going to be able to tell them differently.  It's unfortunate, because it sounds like she has a lot of hopes set on the scenario that has been laid out to her. It's too bad we can't go back and expose that school or her source somehow.

I'd just say, okay, whatever you think.  Let me know how it goes.  You'll never hear from her again, or if you do, you know darn well it won't be truthful.

You may be distracted with worrying about her and not "be there" for your hubby 100%.  As other posters have said, she can visit & pay her respects at the graveside, on her own time.

My son was only 5 when my Gramps died and though I took him to the visitation (I had not sitter) with every intention of keeping him away from the open casket, he managed to get up there anyway.

He's 22 now and when my mother passed away 2 years ago, the one he was very very close to, she was cremated and we had such a casual memorial for her.  He was able to speak about their good times and how he would always know she was with him when he heard Nat King Cole, etc. 

He told me later that this was so much "cooler" than when great gramps died.  "Never let me lay in a casket for people to just stare at Mom".  So, even though he was just 5 at the time, he remembers it clearly. 

My sympathies to your hubby and all.
