MQ check...Denver office

Posted By: Me, too on 2005-09-13
In Reply to: These MQ checks must be a joke. - Insulted

I got one for $9. I have just been told they found an additional $49 I haven't been paid, either, but that check won't come until my pay at the end of the month.

Very convenient.

And on top of that, I have just been told the remainder of my accounts are going onto the DEP platform, which I detest.

In a crappy mood, needless to say.

New in-office job has NO spell check

Hi -  I am starting a new position at a psychiatric facility; will be working three 12-hour days (!)...on initial review of work environment/computer system, etc., they have their "own" program that their "team" set up, but it has NO spell checker, not even one for "general" words, much less a medical one...the other woman who is scheduled to start with me kept on saying, "why is there no spell check... I have never heard of that".... in my opinion, it saves a lot of time having a spell check, we are going to ask their "tech guys" who set up the program if one can be installed, but unfortunately I don't think that is going to be an option, ?...what is your opinion? would you work with no spell check, with a place that is backed up about 1-2 months?...(or have I just gotten too 'spoiled" with working at home with all the "gadgets" that make transcribing faster and more accurrate....less frustrating.  Thanks for your time.     Jen

Check out the back-up batteries at Office Depot -
I have very short power interruptions every single day, so having a back-up power supply is a must.  I have two now, hooked to different pieces of equipment.  I can work for nearly an hour without external power if need be.  I can hear it beep and click on and then off when power is restored again, which is literally just maybe 10 seconds or so.  As far as a generator goes, I have no idea, sorry.
Check with your tax person for certainty but I have a room solely used for my home office and I even
:)
Well, I don't live in Denver, but we are a ....

Southwestern family who moved to the Northeast.  Could be a considered a similar change, of climate at least.  Do you have teenage children?  If so, GOOD LUCK!  We moved a 15yo girl and it was hell on earth for about a year.  As God as my witness, I will never move a teenager again unless I havef no other choice.

The first winter was a definitely an adjustment, but after the first year your blood "thickens" and you get used to it.  I'm running out the door in a light jacket at 35 degrees now.  That isn't even cold anymore.  Have you investigated the cost of living?  There's a great website call Homegain.com and you can do all kinds of investigations on an area including crime rates, schools, etc.  If you have kids, try greatschools.net.  You can use that to help narrow down what school districts you might want to live within.  Good luck.

Any Denver-area MTs??
She needs a neuroophthalmologist and I cannot find one in Denver for her.  Any insight appreciated!  Thanks.
Fireworks in Denver?
I've tried looking this up online, but I'm not having any luck.  Do any Coloradoans know where one could go and see fireworks tonight in Denver or in the surrounding areas?

Thanks, kks! The only one I could find earlier was the one at Coors Field.
we are thinking about moving to Denver (sm)
and I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who lives in or around that area.  Any info good or bad would be appreciated.  I just wanna know the basics, like how hard would it be for a southern family to adapt to Colorado? TIA!

Does anyone live in the Denver, Colorado, area? sm

I may possibly be moving there.  What can you tell me about it?  The school systems do not matter as we no longer have children at home.  What areas are nice to live in?  I read that when it snows it usually melts the same day....is that true?

Any information from someone who lives there or has lived there would be much appreciated.

TIA

Live in Fort Collins, 60 miles N of Denver, Beautiful!
You can email me and I will answer your questions.  I can't speak for those who live IN Denver, but I know you need to watch out for certain neighborhoods, as you do anywhere you live.  I have a sister who lives SW of Denver, in the Littleton area.  She lives it.  Kathy :)
If not in suburban Denver, 4 words...granola eating tree huggers.

Have most people had good luck with their MQ office closing and moving to the regional office. Have
things gotten better or worse for you.
Yes, I lost mine. I upgraded the Office 2000 package to Office 2003. sm
I have over 2000 autocorrect entries and lost them all as well as my supplemental dictionary for my Stedman's spellcheck. Lots of grief!

Maybe you will be lucky and not lose anything. Good luck to you.
Might be able to rent one from an office supply or office machine repair shop

Office politics. That is why I enjoy working at home. In the office,
people are in other people business. Just mind your own business.
Can anyone suggest an office in MQ that is not run like this Amherst office. They are absolutely
pathetic. I wonder how many other MTs are in that office in the same situation.
Just DQS from my office was transferred and the rest are getting on DQS before the office closes.

had a similar issue with TWC and they had done some upgrades and the modem I had was no longer compatible.  The tech knew what the problem was the minute he saw the modem, only it took me about 3 months and threatening to cancel for them to get out here.
No brainer here. Stop payment on first check before you issue 2nd check.

I have had a check bounce over a boo-boo in the check book...NOT A DEADBEAT!!

DID you check with Social Security& does your son receive a check???

Go to SSA.gov and research the payee options.  You may have to use the search engine, but your answer to this particular issue should be there.

I am disabled and while my kids were minors, I had to fill out a form each year on how I, as the payee spent each and every penny of the money they received.  I don't see how his mother can justify how she spent his money for things that you normally would pay.

That said, he is getting Social Security right?  Is your son receiving a dependent check?  Under law, if a parent is disabled and has minor children, each and every one of those children also receive a check until they turn 18 or graduate from high school, which ever comes first.

The check is a percentage of your husbands, so for 800.00, your son should receive at least 350.00.  If you have not been getting this, they would pro-rate it back to when your husbands disability started and that in itself, could solve a lot of your financial problems.  You can also find this out on their website,  HTH

no - don't check out wildblue. check out hughesnet. sm
i was on wildblue. i absolutely HATED it. i paid $400 for install and equipment and bill was $51.51 a month for smallest plan. no bills, had to be direct debit from credit card or bank. wasn't a lot faster than dial up and i frequently went over my download limit so i had to upgrade to the $80/mo plan. speed was no faster on their "fastest plan". they had a 1-yr contract and only 1-yr warranty. well 20 days (kid you not) out of warranty my tria (the eye on the dish) went out and it cost me a total of $275 for replacement and tech call (had to wait a week and a half before tech could come and then he no showed and rescheduled for the next day stating he didn't have the equipment he needed to fix me and the repair order had been in for over a week by that time. no call to say he wasn't coming either, just no showed). they TRIED to sell me the entire package all over again to get me locked into another 1-yr contract and i declined. it was best in their book so your warranty and equipment would be "new". i had to tell them for 5 months to change which credit card to debit from, never could get it right. had to tell them for 3 months when my phone number changed. i could not wait until the day my 1-yr contract was over. have heard really good things about hughesnet. i think it is a tad more a month, but supposedly a lot faster than wildblue and not near as many problems from what i have heard from others. wildblue was down for an entire week at one point throughout the year i was on it. always got lost signals and page cannot be found multiple, multiple times throughout the day. i used wildblue with VPN (with transtech) and could not keep a connection enough to get a decent line count as i was dropping signals too much and it did slow it way down. i finally got clinic work rather than acute care where time and speed wasn't a factor. research message boards for complaints about wildblue and hughesnet before deciding. also hughesnet i think told me a 2-yr warranty rather than only the 1-yr with wildblue.
Check the classified board here and check
E-bay.  Some companies will provide them for free or a small rental fee.
30 day TAT in this office ... office politics at its best

I have kept in touch with an MT I worked with at the last in-house job (radiology).  This was inpatient radiology and also an outpatient radiology clinic the hospital operated.

One of the girls, a person who at one time folded towels but who was hired as a clerk, was just discovered to ahve not mailed out reports for 30 days.  These include both in house reports and outpatient reports.  They have been sitting on her desk because she "has not had time to do them."

What do you make of this?   The lead MT is close to this girl (hence her being moved from housekeeper to clerk) and is trying to minimize the impact that not having the reports mailed to referring physicians' offices, as if it is a minor problem (how they found out about it is a doc's office called the MT's supervisor and asked why 30 days worth of reports were mailed to their office yesterday.

They were keeping it from the director of radiology.  I think this is BIG and that heads should roll for negligence.

What do you think?

at home vs office - i am in office
well, I really was referring to the MONSTER MANAGER that I have, who has her favorites here, and she assigns them the easy doctors who say the same thing over and over, you know.  I have to do something.  I am losing my SELF at this point, with no church and no family.  The stuff on here about running out of work, my lack of computer savvy, all  has me just frozen. MOre about in-office.  Do you have little habits like talking out loud to the dr?  Someone will complain about you.  Do you ever say a cussword?  Someone will complain.  Do you ever sigh?  Complaints.  About age - I was offered 2 trans. positoins in San Diego before I came here.  I had gone to a seminar about how to look for work over age 55, had revamped my resume and my "presenting" self, and it made all the difference.  Things are way different than they were evern 10 years ago, you will be judged by someone younger than you, but in this line of work they do appreciate experience and reliability.  And the computer doesn't care if you're pretty.  It's not your age unless you are sickly.  Don't give up!!  if that's what you want.
What office are you out of
and how long you been there?
not with every MQ office
It is on the list of "dangerous abbreviations" and is to be coverted to mL.
all along with the ATL office also
and just now trying to enforce all of the sudden. I have only met quota a handful of times since starting DQS over a year ago. NOTHING has ever been said to me directly. Even contacted the office numerous times concerning this and just get blew off. So frustrated!!
Is this every MQ office?
I have been with them 8 years and I have not seen or heard anything about a check other than on this board.
my office

My office is also my study room.  It is lovely with a nice corner-style desk.  I have a nice music set-up with cd changer, etc. and a nice sofa with a really pretty pine cabinet that holds all my extra "stuff".  I have nice wall grouplngs with pictures of the grandkids and other things that make me happy on the shelves that are amongst the photos.  It has a large window looking out to the front yard and a ceiling fan for a breeze.

I have another picture that I picked up at a yard sale last week that I also want to put up.  It's a neat and quite large original pastel that looks like something you's see on Antiques Roadshow.  In fact, if they ever come to my town I'll take it in and hope it's a treasure.

which office?
what region are you in and did you have to ask for it if you don't mind telling?
Office

For tax purposes I have my own office.  Also helps me to be able to "go to the office" and shut the door when not working as it seems I get more done this way.  It might be small 8 x 8 or so but is large enough.  I also will not keep any of our household finances in my office -- strictly for work related items only -- others are kept in a small office in the spare bedroom.   That way I do not feel I am at work "all day long."   But that is just me.  Still work in sweats the first few hours, start to work within 15 minutes of getting up with coffee.  Tried the other way with office in spare bedroom or living room and just did not work as I felt that the work was always there with me.    Patti

Not in my office
If you hang up or get cut off for some reason, you go back to the report you left off with.  OP, can you tell us which office?  I am in Chicago and hope it's here.  I get stuck doing all of the ESLs and 20+ minute reports too.
why not ask? if you were in an office,
would you ask your friends there their thoughts/opinions?
What does your office look like?

Redecorating my home office..Maybe a newer/nicer surrounding can get me more motivated.. going kind of retro decor.. what does your work environment look like?  Just curious..

Office
Mine is in an extra bedroom (converted to office).  Working very well for me.  Away from distractions, can close door if I need to.
Office
I started off in the bedroom, moved to the dining room, then as our family expanded from 2 to 4 kids, I divided the dining room in half (It was huge! Have sat 27 people down at one time, the largest room in the house), had walls built and what do you know, I know have my own space!  With a door and a window!  My two older kids are in their teens and I have been finishing the basement and moving them down there.  I thought about going down there myself, but I like my little office and I can hear the little ones and the window leads right to the backyard too.  Nice and peaceful!  But it wasn't always that way!
The last job I had in an office the office..sm
manager seemed to think we would not see this take over for a long, long time and that many were trying it and going back to using transcriptionists. Let the doc know you will be happy to help him out should he decide it is not working out for him. I am so sorry for you, hang in there.

Awww - thanks for sharing the photo of your kitty and in reading your "blog" thanks for reminding me why I enjoy working at home so much.

I hope this link works.  I wanted to show you who keeps me company every day while I transcribe--unless she runs off to sleep half the day, which I wish I could do!!!  When she's not around, the birds visit the feeders in the window.
