Actually the ad is not all that off base, in my opinion.  Re:salary, the US Department of Labor as of May 2008 boosted their estimate of the average pay of MTs to $32,000/year.  (Three years ago it was 29,000 or so.)  This is the first increase I've seen in a long time.  (Maybe at least we're keeping up with inflation for a change.)  Of course no one makes that fresh out of school.  Re: Training, since there's no standardized entry requirment for MT, the statement that a year's training is "recommended" is accurate.  At least it says "year" instead of 6 weeks or some other totally wrong time for training.  What the ad doesn't mention is how difficult it is for a newbie to get started, even with the "recommended" training - I think that's the big hurdle for anyone trying to enter this trade.  If AHDI manages to get the apprenticeship program going well, that may help, not that I have any great faith in AHDI...
