oh my production is cut in HALF!! wish we had year round school. nm

sorry, but this isn't grade school
When you get out of grade school and become an MT, try following the MT Book of Style, which contains the guidelines for this profession - whether you like it or not.
I have to say I am just sick over the recent round of school violence

My daughter's Middle School implemented some new safety measures this year. Visitors have to be "buzzed in" and when the kids go from building to building they must use their ID cards to enter the doors.

But one day my daughter forgot her clarinet and my husband took it to her. We are talking about a "country-boy" looking man carrying a small black case. A teacher and her class was exiting the main building and the teacher actually held the door for my husband to enter as they were exiting. She had no idea who he was. Scary.

Anyway, it seems the Amish shooter targeted that school so he could avoid the security measures that have been established in most schools in recent years.

My heart goes out to the families who lost and for those sitting at the bedside of the remaining girls. I hope and pray they will recover.

Thanks for letting me ramble. This has really been on my mind a lot lately

Makes you wonder how they passed grade school grammar. No it is not acceptable.
I agree 100%.
Homeschool, so year-round fun! nm

I was 15, in 10th grade, getting ready to go to school I guess - a bit hard to remember - nm

just reminded, did you know Einstein failed grade school? His teachers told
Thank god they didn't believe it or the world would have been robbed of one of the greatest minds.
My son has played since 2nd grade, quit last year and sm

came back this year excited about it for the first time in 4 years.  I did not realize that he was not having fun anymore until I see how much fun he is having this year.  I also talked to a few college scouts who said that it does not matter if they take a year off to concentrate on grades.  My son missed it more than he thought.  I am just glad my husband and I kept our mouths shut last year.

I'm embarassed to even work with you all. Sound like a bunch of grade school delinquents. Grow u

So disrespectful, and just plain embarassing.  You get whatever you desire, and based on your "class" on the boards, you all are getting it.  I thank God literally that I don't have to share office space with you "women". A priceless blessing.

3 months on and 1 month off, all year round.

We're in CA and have a lot of year-round schools. I like it better than the traditional schedule.

My daughter also wants to get started doing
MT. She is going to a local community college. However, I do believe there are quite a few online schools, such as Andrews School, that train MTs.
My daughter-in-law wants to get started in transcription, like me...
I have been doing it for 25 years and don't have a clue where to tell her to start.  Does she have to take a transcription program, if so where, and are there any MTSOs who train?  Thanks for the help....
Whe my daughter went on a school trip...
there was an option on the form to opt for insurance. Have you gotten the paperwork yet?  It might be there on there.
Our daughter's school was supposed to go there too..sm
However, the school switched and went with Texas instead, so we were able to avoid this but I feel bad that they did not share this information with you upfront! Maybe mention to your school that there is a competition in Texas and we are going 3/27 to 4/2/2006 for our high school. You rates are WOW, very good!! Ours are $750 a person but includes the usual rooms, travel and food plus tours and amusement. I sure hope that they are able to give you more information as to when they would make a decision or of they would be open to applying that money toward a different competition for the kids!!
My daughter just started college and her Eng. Lit. prof. required all of the sm
students to get one. Luckily I had one by Sandisk (I think that's the name) that I use when I'm on vaco and bring some of my work files when I have to work on another computer. They are easy to use. They are cheaper now than they used to be even a year ago. I saw one that has a 1 gig on sale for $20 this week. So, even though your teen's teacher wants them to have one now, your teen may still be able to use it for college work later. They are so small but the one I have has a cord, so you can wear it around your neck, instead of it getting lost in the bottom of a back pack or purse. The part that plugs into the computer can be retracted back into its case, so there isn't another cover that you have to keep track of.

I don't know if this helps, but if they have to use for college, it might not be a bad investment.
I was an aide at my daughter's school and I was no yuppie, but that was

Not only did I finally receive the proper training, but the woman on the advisory board hired and mentored me. I also joined the local AAMT and networked. Good luck. I know how frustrating it can be. A community college will have a good program to include medical language, MT courses taught by local MTSOs, business English, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, etc.
I have a 15 year old daughter....
and it is also a 16 mild trip to pick her up...but yet every day I am there and I will be no matter what the cost of gas. I would not trust an inexperienced teen driving my daughter. The price of gas is becoming outrageous yes...but your daughter's life is priceless.

My daughter got married a year ago and
she, too, wanted something different. She had a small reception (about 75). Instead of having a "traditional" cake, she opted for a cupcake tree, which we did ourselves. We simply stacked cupcakes on tiered platters that were decorated with beaded pearls and tiny day lilies that we found at Hobby Lobby. It was very unique and so pretty. This might not be anything you would be interested, but thought I would pass it along anyway. BTW, congratulations on your coming wedding!
When my daughter got married last year,
a lot the pictures were taken before the ceremony, but some were taken between the ceremony and the reception. During that time, the servers for the reception got the final things ready and the guests graciously waited on the bride and groom to begin the reception that was, after all, in their honor.
Bringing the head lice post back up. This has been going around at my daughter's school.
Saturday, after having been checking her head all week, found lice on her head. Did the treatment on her, on me, DH and other daughter, just in case. Only youngest and myself apparently had them. Got rid of the lice, now need to deal with the eggs. No problem with daughter's head because I am meticulous and have been checking daily and removing anything I find. My problem is my own head. Oldest daughter tried to look through, but she had hard time, though she tried. Husband "I don't see anything", so not much help. I can't look at my own head, so my dilema is how do I get the eggs off my own head and keep them from rehatching? Any help/advice would be appreciated. Never gone throught his before.
My daughter's elementary school was on lock down yesterday afternoon cause some freak in a red S

truck drove onto school property behind the school (where the playground is) and tried to get some kids on recess to get into his truck!  Thankfully the teachers on recess duty were paying attention and gathered all the kids back into the building and the school went on lock down.  The police showed up within minutes, but the guy took off before they got there.  So now they are looking for him.  The news was parked in front of my house most of the morning this morning.  I live directly across the street from the school.

It's just scary out there.  My daughter who is in kindergarten was matter of fact about the whole thing.  All she said when she gave me the note from the principal telling parents what happen was "It was for real mom.  We thought it was a drill, but it was for real."  Then I thought what a sad state this world is in when our schools have lock down drills now in addition to fire and tornado drills.

I live in a small town too and had a false sense of security until the Amish news and until yesterday.  It seems like you simply aren't safe anywhere anymore.

My 5-year-old daughter in a dress-up outfit.

that's why I started school -
I am driving myself crazy here...

I have no social life because even if something is going on, I have to sit here and wait for jobs to download one by one so that I have some kind of income for the day - my boyfriend of course does not want to stay home and just sit, so I end up being home by myself all the time...

My income is so horrible lately that I don't know what I am going to do. Going now to take to the people who financed my houe and explain to them the situation and just hope and pray they will work with me for a couple of months.

I will be graduated from accounting with an Associate's degree in December and hope to high heaven that somebody has some money they want counted then!!!!
My daughter got married a year ago and didn't wear
a veil. She chose a tiara instead.
School started here today.....sm
I kissed and hugged my daughter and wished her well as the bus drove off!
My 9 year old daughter has it now. Two other kids in her class were sick this week also.

I made a whole $12K this year, granted when my daughter got cancer in March - sm
my income took a big hit as I went "on leave" from my FT job, and cut back on my PT job drastically. I did not get back to working a more normal schedule until October. I now work 2 PT jobs. So had I not had a 6 month hit in the pocket book I expect I would have made over $20K this year, not a fortune. My goal for 2006 is $24K, and as I am going to try my best to "work smart", I should be able to acheive that, staying disciplined is the key, of which I am sorely lacking. I am lucky that I don't have to live on this though, I'd be starving. As it is I have to play catch up on a lot of bills since I lost 6+ months of income, not fun.
My daughter's 1 year cancer checkup was good on Tuesday -sm
so I am very happy. She is just past 1 year off chemo (08-17-05). She is on 3-month checkups (has been for the past year) and all looks well so that is always cause for much happiness around here!
My high school had police there. It started
about my junior/senior year I think....and cameras everywhere. We also had a security guard patrol the campus, although he was more worried about kids sneaking out than anything.

I'm surprised all schools don't have them. It sure could have diffused the situation a lot faster, possibly saving the girl's life had a police officer already been inside before happening.
I am in the same place you are - I started school last week... nm

I started part-time in a doc's office while still in high school. sm
That was in 1984. My career just bloomed from there......
I started at $22K a year
In house working for a state hospital.  The ceiling is $40K with benefits (maybe $42K with the new union raises) after 10 years.  But there are some negatives that go with the positives.  I'm at 7 years, about $37K.

They just started ASR and are phasing it into most accounts this year. sm

It started going up with the year of my birth, 1943
It had been 65 for years but they know people supposedly living longer now. Your date of birth is 1960 or after according to my social security paper.
I went back to school this year
In my area both the RN-AD and dental hyg. programs have wait lists, however the dental hyg. wait is like 4 years versus the RN wait being 1-1/2 years. I am just finishing up all my gen eds and I should be off the wait list and into the core program next fall. I am taking extra psych classes to fill my "elective" courses as I was told that hospitals prefer nurses with their BSN to have psych minors, and I'm only in the AD program (associate degree), but I can still list extra psych courses on my resume. I wish you the very best of luck!!!
When the kids started school I wanted a job in my home town. A hospital clerk position (sm)
came open. You started compiling charts, making copies, etc. Then I was promoted after a few months and began learning transcription and did that part of the day. Then a few months later they taught me coding and abstracting and I did that part of the day. It was a great learning experience to learn things from the bottom up. Needless to say, I am an old dog here who has been doing this more than 25 years now.

Geez. Where do the ppl live with the all year school. SM
Also the person who stated her kids went back to school two weeks ago.  In july????  Geez, I thought August 30th was early.  What schools go back in JUly and what ones are all year?
I was told to wait three cycles, but went ahead and started trying. Took almost a year before I got
Please make sure your OB does an ultrasound to check that all products of conception are gone. I had a D&C, and had no problems. A friend of mine who went to a different OB/GYN did not have a D&C and had numerous problems because her body did not rid itself of all products of conception. She had a terribly hard time getting pregnant again.
POLL: Home School vs. Charter School vs. Public School vs. Priv ate School...
Pros and cons of each too. I have two little ones that will be starting school soon and I would like opinions on all. Thanks in advance! :)
I go through this every year when the school district starts hiring.

And I have cabin fever really, really bad from being home with the kids almost 24/7.  Plus, I don't get much adult interaction in the summer because all of my friends are busy with their own families, vacations, work, etc.  We don't get together as often as during the school year.

The work part of it is OK.  I have good accounts, but it can be boring or frustrating with interruptions.  Like the other poster, I have to play music in the background and buckle down to be productive.  However, there is something to be said for the flexibility that I have in working at home.  I'm here for the kids.  I can take a break whenever I want to.  I don't have to get dressed up or drive anywhere.  No office politics.  No supervisor screaming at me.  No out-of-town travel.  I have my own office now.  I have total control over the thermostat.  I can eat whatever I want to whenever I want to.  I'm saving money by not using daycare.  I make as much or more working part-time than if I worked fulltime, paid daycare, and had to drive to and from a job.  Best of all, I have time during the day to exercise, clean the house, or do my hobbies.  I'm not so exhausted by the end of the day that I just slap food on the table and veg out in front of the TV.  I don't watch TV at all any more!  For me, the benefits are still good enough to keep doing this for at least a few more years.  I can always go back into the workforce when the kids are older.

BS in criminal justice, in my last year of law school - still typing! nm

I'm 46 and I went back to school this year full time for a BSN...sm

I was worried about because, let's face it, my short term memory isn't what it used to be LOL. Plus the program is ONLY full time. They had 1000 applicants and picked the top 70 of us. If you didn't have a 3.5 GPA, you didn't get in. But I am doing really well in school - after I got past the shock of the first 6 weeks - tons of work- and I am at the top of my class. My husband, bless his heart, is doing all the cooking and we are basically kind of ignoring the dirt. My house will be clean again another day. I am finishing up my second semester, have 3 more semesters for a BSN, and then another 2.5 years to get my masters and be an advanced practice nurse. 41 is definitely not too old! You will have to work smart to save your back but it can be done. Also MT is starting a slow slide out...you would be smart to start your second career now while you still have a job... IMHO

good luck!
