Try looking at the function keys...sm
in your laptop. If you have that CRT/LCD key, press "Fn" and then that function key (on mine, it's F8--I have a Dell). Your extension monitor should show your desktop, and your laptop monitor would go blank. Of course, I am assuming you already dealt with Control Panel/Display/Settings, and you've matched the physical arrangement of your monitors. I also have my "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" unchecked. If you do leave it checked, your laptop desktop is going to show in your extension monitor as an "extension" of your desktop, meaning, you will be able to drag your mouse onto your secondary monitor. But, if you're like me and want to extend the life of your laptop monitor, then try to look for that function key. Good luck!
Function keys with IT
I have a doc that says the same thing over and over. I have made a template for him and I use my F11 key to jump from field to field to "fill in the blanks". How can I get this to work with IT. I have added it to my glossary using the formated option and the F11 key does not work. I have tried using the command key (I insert the F11 key before every field in the template and then save it to the glossary) and this has not worked either. Any suggestions?
Function keys

I am typing now, but wanted to send you a quick note and say that you are right about the function keys for playing, FForward, and Rewind....I have been doing that this morning, and it works well!  I thought it would just be too much confusion to try and use those function keys instead of the foot pedal, but honestly, it's working great, so thanks!!  I appreciate any advice that's making it easier for me to use this system, and I got some good tips!

Have a good day

Meditech function keys?
Is there an "F" key for spell check in Meditech? I hate having to use my mouse to click the spell check button and Im just wondering if there is a short cut key.
Mouse vs function keys?
OK, I just started with a new company and going through extensive training on-line.  Been doing MT for 15 years and am very comfortable with the mouse.  Trainer is trying to get me to use function keys.  She says it helps greatly with speed and the mouse slows you down.  I even have a "cheat strip" of all the function keys but cannot for the life of me get comfortable with using all the commands.  How do you know (besides looking at the "cheat strip") when to use Alt, Ctrl or shift key in combination with the F keys?  Is there any mindset you can get into that makes you remember Alt is for this type of function, Ctrl is for that type of function, shift for another?  How many of you use the function keys vs the mouse and is it really that much faster with time and practice?
I could not do the function keys at all, don’t feel I have to
and after the higher ups saw what I can do, no more talk on why you should use those function keys.
Why would my control function keys suddenly change?
Suddenly I can't use CTRL X to cut. Instead my work program suddenly thinks I want to exit the program (ExText). It somehow changed so that I'd have to use Control S, I believe. I don't want to change my function keys depending on the whim of my program. What happened?

Is this the one you have? I have it and it's the first time I have had a keyboard where they didn't fade. The letters are sort of raised and almost look like stickers on the keys, can't explain it, but I have had this for more than 6 months and it still looks brand new! Not a bad price either.
Does anybody use the diNovo Logitech keyboard? nm

New Logitech Wave Keyboard...anyone have this??
I am interested to see if anyone has used this keyboard yet...thanks...
Logitech 'scissor switch' keyboard
I bought a keyboard about 5 months ago that has the same "touch" as my laptop keyboard. I think they call it a scissor switch keyboard.

I fell in love with my laptop keyboard and was so excited to be able to find one for my PC at a computer trade show. It is so much quieter than my other ones!
I use a Logitech Y-SX49 keyboard. It is not very expensive at all (sm)
In fact, I just ordered a new one after having the first for a couple of years and wearing out the G key of all things. The key type you are looking for is called scissor switch. That is the kind of keyboard a laptop has. My keyboard is just a basic keyboard with a large backspace key (a must for me) and ran about $25 via the internet.
Love my Logitech Wave keyboard sm

It's not as split apart as the tons of other ones I've tried over the years, it's wireless and comes with a wireless mouse as well, smaller than most others, and not as high to fit on my keyboard drawer.  I saw it at Costco here in Washington the other day; not sure if they carry it at all Costcos or not.

keys on the keyboard sticks

The keys on the keyboard tend to stick at times, but they are intermitent.  Does anyone else have that problem?  I bought a new keyboard.  Please help.. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

keyboard skipping keys
Does anyone else have problems with some of the keys on the keyboard skips intermittently, not all the time, just sometimes?  My keyboard is brand new.  Not the most expensive, but it is new.  What can I do?  Please help.
Please help...Anyone know if you can remap keyboard keys?
I just switched to a kinesis freestyle keyboard, and the difference in the force required to strike keys is so great that I finally think my arm and hand pain will go away!  However, on the kinesis keyboard the delete key is not directly above the arrow keys, and this is slowing me way down.  I was thinking if I could just switch the function of certain keys to bring the delete closer to the old position, I'd be ok.

I thought there was a way to remap keys?  maybe software or ???  I don't want to have to return this keyboard and go back to aching wrists.  Please help if you know how to do this.

Letter Keys are locked on keyboard
Does anyone know of a string of keys that could have been hit to lock up the letter keys and not the other keys?  this is a Logitech cordless keyboard.  If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it!  Thanks!
Navigating a page using keyboard keys/mouse

I have an HP desktop with MSWord, less than a year old, laser mouse.

I had a lot of problems with the keyboard, which was finally diagnosed as "keyboard failure".  It was replaced, but it seems to be happening again and that the mouse is getting in on the action.

I want to know what the "computer speak" would be for the issues below. I'm trying to describe them in a letter. Indeed, is there a pithy way or phrase for:

1--Using the mouse or page up key cause a "stutter"--the text appears repeated (which was not actually typed) and the cursor won't move upward. The page sort of "stutters" or flickers and movement is stuck. I usually muse use the outside bar to break free and navigate up or click to another spot on the page and try again to move up via the mouse or the key.

2--Often, at the end of a document, I hit page up or the arrow up, nothing responds on the page. I may have to use the mouse to click on the page which then will get me a response to those keys' use.

As well, could either of these problems be related to my keyboard settings?

Thanks.

The reply function to your original message doesn't work (sm)
So sorry about that...I hope you'll find this message.

C-phone help! Dial tone ok, but keys will not work.

There is a dial-tone when handset is lifted.  Keys do not work to program, dial, ect.  This is the same for 2 different units.  Any suggestions?

I also struggled with the trying to get the foot pedal to work so I used my keyboard.

Honestly, it was not a long test and was easy to do just using the mouse etc..It was taking longer to figure out how to use the footpedal feature than doing the actual test.

Logitech (sm)

I was in the same boat.  I tried the Logitech DiNovo keyboard, which has the absolutely best touch on the market that I have tried.  But just right at the month mark, the space bar started sticking.  So I returned it.  I then got the Logitech S510.  The touch isn't quite as nice, but it is very soft.  It is cordless, which is another benefit.  It comes with a cordless mouse as well.  The only "problem" with it that I would change if I could, is that it isn't ergonomically shaped, not big and bulky or shaped with the split shape, but I love the touch.  Not having the keyboard split actually makes the reach shorter, and I don't have the problems there.

Also what I do, ergonomically wise, is I bought 2 of the IMAK ErgoBeads wrist rest.  I use on on top of the wrist rest part of the keyboard, so I can rest my wrists on it, and it keeps them elevated.

The other IMAC rest I use on the floor, so keep my heel from pressing into the floor under my foot pedal.  I use a foot rest, so the pedal is elevated up on that and the pad is on the floor beneath it.  Keeps my heels from hurting.

Hope this helps.

P.S.  Try going to Staples to find the Logitech selections.  I think find they're way superior to the MS ones in their touch.  Not spongey.

Logitech
I got the Logitech (can't remember exactly which one) but it was cheap, cheap, and has a softer click, not completely gone but better than many I have tried, Microsoft included even their 4000. I did not like that one. I have gone through 2 Logitechs and like better than any other. I spilled water on the keyboard so be careful, it will never be able to be used again.
Logitech G15
Try the Logitech G15. Backlit, programmable keys.
Logitech cordless has a very .sm
light touch and the divided keyboard with the rise in the middle.  I absolutely love mine.  You can the set with keyboard and cordless mouse for $100.00.  I got mine at a local computer shop, but you can order it from the Logitech web site.

Does anyone have this keyboard  and if so can you share some insight concerning battery issues?  i read where you can keep charging the battery while you work.  My question is it necessary then to replace the batteries at any time?  I need to purchase a keyboard for a new laptop and I really like the ergonomic keyboards and would purchase this if it is not costly with having to purchase batteries all the time.  thank you so much for any info :)

Plan on plugging in a regular keyboard and mouse to work on. Much more efficient than trying to use

I like plain ol' Dell or Logitech.
I need a keyboard with a light touch, but I also like one that is clicky, if you know what I mean by that.
Most of the Logitech ones seem to be less clacky. Put some padding under it, too, if

I have the Logitech wireless and love it.

Same here, I have a Logitech and the letters are worn off, SM
and that seems to happen to all my keyboards. I use canned air and that helps keep the keys loose. I hate having to break in a new keyboard, dont you?
I have the Logitech Wave and I love it...

If you are talking about the Logitech Wave, I have that and love it...
very comfortable and there is not an adjustment period like you have with some of the others...
My Logitech cordless is 5-years-old and works fine - sm
despite tons of garbage in it, though I do try to turn it upside down and shake out the crumbs from time to time, and blow it out with a duster. I also pop off keys and clean under them with a duster that way too. Though almost messed up my shift key, put it back on wrong and it would not work, but figured it out and now it is fine. Bought those stickers to put on the keys where the letters had worn off, but the D is damaged now, looks like someone (not me) dropped something on the keyboard as the D, E and C all are damaged/have marks on the, The D being the worst though, big chunk of it is gone. But still going srong. Would like a softer touch keyboard though, this one is very hard, but maybe that is the key to its longevity? Something to think about (I work ~40-60 hours a week).
Did the same thing just this month from the wireless optical Logitech to the trackball
I now keep my hands very much in their most natural anatomical position while rested on the keyboard and mouse (I do QA anyway). Fingers are no longer as tense as they used to be with my optical.
Its the cheap keyboards. I bought Logitech G15 gamer's, heavy, sits in one place, so I don't
Its the cheap keyboards. I bought Logitech G15 gamer's, heavy, sits in one place, so I don't have to move all the time. It was $79 and really much better than those little things that you spend your time with your hands trying to keep in place and your body trying to compensate for the keyboard moving all over the place-- Try it, you'll like it-- or any other HEAVY, GAMER's keyboards. Plus I love the touch on this, much more like touch-typing than monitoring those itty bitty light-weight keyboards that I used to have to watch where I was all the time (fingers) because they moved all the time. Hope this helps!
I use a MSFT Natural keyboard at home and the laptop keyboard on the road. nm

Unfortunately no key function to stop it. sm
How about making one pt that changes to capital PT and one ptx that expands to prothrombin time? Another example, have chf change to capital CHF and chfx to expand out to congestive heart failure. I just started ExText myself and that's what I'm going to be doing. I saw another poster does the exact opposite with the X so not meant to confuse!
Why not use the receipt function in OE?
She would have to acknowledge the receipt of your emails (which I hope are encrypted for HIPAA compliance) and that would send a clear message that she is responsible for keeping the file on her end. I also would state that once I receive payment for work submitted to her, you delete those file (whether or not you actually do), but it will help her see she has to accept responsibility for running her business like a business.

This used to happen to me all the time and that was how I handled it. After the office caught on, I only had to resend files perhaps once every 3-4 months.
mouse vs function
Am glad to see your post. My new second job took the mouse completely away from us (I am training inhouse for 2 months) and after a whole month I STILL constantly reach for the mouse LOL. Hoping it just gets to be habit to use function keys, but sure is frustrating and jerky!! Good luck to you!
Meditech function key help

I am not sure what you mean by Meditech Magic Overlay... but I use Meditech and I have a keyboard "guide" that tells what all the function keys do if that is what you need.

Can you use a "Find" function?
xx
I tried that, but I could not function. I felt
dizzy and had a headache all the time.  I'm wearing bifocal glasses right now and I have never adjusted to them either.  Last doctor suggested I just get monofocal contacts and get readers at the drugstore.
favorite keyboard over the holidays is called "no keyboard"

If you use a standard keyboard you can buy an old IBM model M keyboard on ebay or clickykeyboards.co

That key printing never wear down because the letters are part of the key itself.  They just don't make them that way anymore because it is too expensive to make.  Some of the mechanical keyboards like Cherry have what they double shot key imprinting and the letters are part of the key itself and don't wear off. That IBM keyboard is very noisy from the type of keyswitch it has so you may not like that.  Logitech and Belkin make some membrane switch keyboards that are supposed to have longer lasting key imprints.  I have a logitech that has the longer lasting key imprints and it is pretty good.  You have to look on the specs to find out if has the longer lasting key printing.

I have experimented so much with keyboards and have done a lot of research.  Way too much info.

I use a laptop with a full-size keyboard (no separate keyboard)
I'm using a lap desk but previously was using a pillow with a book on it under the laptop. No additional keyboard though, I bought one with a full-sized board with regular size keys (an HP) which I LOVE and it took no time at all to get used to it. I also love that when the weather improves, I can take my computer outside and get some fresh air! What a great job... :)
