My take on this...

I agree with the other MTSO.  I think she just got overwhelmed, didn't have enough people to do the job, and took it out on you, which of course doesn't make it right.

With regard to the pay differential, as an IC, you negotiate all these before you start working for someone.  Remember, you are not an employee.  Every contract for an IC is different.  Before I hire someone as an IC, they have to tell me what their work schedule is.  Of course, I weigh that out and see if that's something I can work with.   By law, I can't give them a written schedule; otherwise, that makes them an employee.

I have hospital accounts, so I have ICs working on weekends.  Some have pay differential, and some do not.  There are some weekends where we have more work than we can handle, and I do ask others for help.  Some do, and some do not.  Sometimes when the volume is really high, I give them "extra pay."  Again, by law, I am not allowed to give "bonuses."  So before the end of the billing period, I tell them to add the "extra" to their invoice.

Really, the MTSO and IC should have a give-and-take relationship.  Talk to your MTSO.  It's always a good thing to clear the air.  Good luck!
