Nationals who outsource to India

Will the nationals in this country face financial hardship if the Obama/Biden administration cuts tax incentives to companies who outsource their MT work to India?

I know of one company who outsources and they are not doing too well financially and their CEO resigned not to long ago, no reason given. I know a lot of MTs refuse to work for companies that outsource but many domestic MTs do work for them and maybe now is a time to bail out. Any thoughts???

They outsource to India
They are funded by George Soros (look him up-- he has big bucks, is very "global", and has bankrupted a lot of foreign countries). Look at the two articles on the MT News board about Spheris. If you like all the new MQ rules and regulations, you will love Spheris, as they have all the same ones. I checked into them about 6 months ago and said, "No, thanks".
They outsource to India... go figure
We all lost our jobs a few years back when Dell made the decision to close all the call centers and send the work over to India. They are "programmed" not to fix the problem, but to get you off the phone as quickly as possible. Their answer to everything is to format and reinstall. I was with them for over 2 years before we got the ax. If anybody ever needs help with their Dell, just "yell."

On a side note, I had to laugh when I saw an article in Reader's Digest about Mr. Dell and all the "great things he is doing for the US." If people only knew....
US to outsource obesity to India....

With our jobs, come our problems.....very interesting article.

It's a service in the USA, but I hear they outsource to India.
So I'm not too hopeful about it.  I'm going to at least talk to them, but like I said, I'm not too optimistic.
INDIA, INDIA, NEWBIE LOOKING FOR INDIAN-OWNED COMPANY-FORGET AMERICA COMPANIES HIRING NEWBIES!!!!
Our country sucks when it comes to teamwork.  My experience is in hospital transcription and 95% foreign dictators.  Most of my dictators are from India and surrounding countries.  Give up you all, India is already way ahead of us!
Used to think we were using India, but now realize India is using us for our med. info, jobs,
:{
That THEY DO NOT outsource!
nm
NO MDI-MD does NOT outsource NM
x
no outsource
I honestly don't think they're going to go to outsourcing any time soon. Besides...I'm not going to be at this hospital for years and years. My husband is graduating from college in June and we may be relocating after that. I'm just wondering if I should ask for a raise for the extra work that I put in, or at least a bonus or some sort of recognition or compensation.
OUTSOURCE OVERSEAS
and you will be begging for work. get ready to brown-nose to get enough money to live on.

good luck. you could do much better.
Transcend does NOT outsource!
xx
so who types it? they only way around that would be to outsource
and that seems ridiculous.
Pretty soon they will outsource THAT
/
Nothing like a reminder that they outsource.
x
Because if they don't outsource presently...sm
they will do it some day. Is the bottom line the buck. Unfortunately!
If you can't outsource, then bring them here

Just stopping the flow of records overseas is not going to solve the problem.  There is a special class of visa that industry can turn to if they cannot find enough American workers to do a job.  This has been used for engineers, IT professionals and nurses among others.  It is not necessarily that there are not Americans that can do the job, but that they will not do it for a low wage.  We need to pay attention to the immigration debate as well.  It isn't simply about poorly educated, low-skilled workers being involved in a guest worker program.

hospitals outsource because
they are sick of all the MT drama (as we can here on this board); therefore, there are not many in-house positions left ;)
hospitals outsource because
ooops...I meant "as we can SEE how much drama is going on here on this board"
reversing OUTSOURCE trend ?
that I will not make the money that the hospital pays me. But is it true - that outsourcing is being reversed? I'd love to hear that ... so many more options for decent employment would come our way.

THanks !
Does Transcend outsource overseas?
Thinking of applying with them as an IC.  Anybody with any input?
They probably just outsource their tech work to there.
x
There was a discussion not long ago that they outsource
I was checking into them, but when I read all the controversy over their outsourcing (one person said the owner was from India, I believe), I changed my mind. I can't remember what all was said, but maybe you can go back about a month or so ago and find the conversation. Good luck with your search!
HP/Quicken/Norton outsource
I agree.  My printer/fax machine died and had to get a new one.  There was a piece in the way so that I could not get the ink in, so had to call Customer Service.  Two hours later, with understanding only 1/3 of what he said, I finally got the information I needed.  My computer crashed on me (not a good year), had to call HP and Norton, both of which use India for their Customer Service - finally went and bought a new computer as got no help.  Couldn't get my Quicken loaded, so called the help desk, and guess what!  He was not understanding my question/problem at all.  It's like I cannot get into that part or I would not be asking for help!  Finally, a friend of mine helped me and got into it so I could do a backup to restore my data.  I am sick of this so-called "service", and sure hope American companies, hospitals in particular catch on soon before our whole world crashes down on us.
we were told how much the outsource service
gets paid every month from our overflow work - they get paid $48,000/month!!! A MONTH!!!! In the beginning, some of us were so mad that were coming in early and grabbing all the easy work and typing it as fast as we could just so it wouldn't get picked up by the outsource service. With our staff of 14 transcriptionists, plus the outsourcing, is it any wonder these hospitals are getting sick of having inhouse transcriptionists!
OUTSOURCE OF DMV RECORDS TO MEXICO

Check this out - it seems that the outsourcing is growing and growing.  Now the DMV in Orange County, California is outsourcing to Mexico.  It seems they are blaming the media for publicizing this, but not admitting to the potential for danger that this poses.  See the link below:

Lawyer tells you how to outsource

Please don't send this to the gab board as this pertains to US, the US MQ employees:

Looking into nursing. I figure you can't outsource the..sm
people you take care of. I did billing for a hospital before I got into transcription. At this point I don't think it would pay enough for most of us, it was considered an entry level position where I worked. I don't know if that has changed or not.
TransTech Medical does not outsource offshore.
p
Not all companies outsource and Spheris shouldn't be (sm)
your last hope for heaven sakes. By the way, your husband sounds like a real winner.
that's what these companies do, outsource from clinic/hospital

Tax breaks to companies that outsource overseas... tic tic tic
Apparently, the President has vowed to stop giving tax breaks to companies that outsource jobs overseas.  That is a GREAT thing for MT's!  Woohoo!  Can't happen soon enough. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/04/15/obama.taxes/?iref=mpstoryview
This is very true. None of our local hospitals outsource their pathology, as far as I know. But...sm
I work for MQ's Seattle office and for a time was assigned to a pathology account there. I was always curious how/why they outsourced their pathology. Anyway, I quickly found it BORING (especially the gross dictations) and asked to be taken off the account because I made NO money (very short jobs + software slower than molasses = no money).

Hope this helps some.

there are NOT plenty of companies who don't outsource, directly or indirectly.
as for you calling others "idiots" your credibility is gone.  hope you are careful where you shop and what you buy regarding your loyalty to not participating in companies who offshore.  good luck.  hope you have plenty of time and plenty of money.
I cant figure out why she is so upset if she has such a perfect job that doesn't outsource??
x
Angry, this happened in our hospital with our outsource service - sm
we had not been checking the outsource service's work for months. Well, it came back to bite us in the ass, because low and behold there was a Transcriptionist that worked for the outsource service that could not type whatsoever - in fact, we even suspected that it was being offshored without our knowledge - that's how bad it was.

anyways, it came back to bite us in the ass because an outside doctor's office received a copy of a hospital dictation and it made us look stupid. So needless to say, we asked that this certain transcriptionist be taken off the account. It was our fault for not looking at the transcription services work, but then again, they guarantee accuracy and crap like that.

Maybe this is what happened in your situation. That all of a sudden the hospital decided to do a QA or some doctor finally read his dictation.

Don't be hard on yourself. You will get the hang of it.
see inside......*S* if post remd go to outsource forum

these are websites to report offshoring...........

No, I do not outsource my clients dictation overseas. That is my choice.

As a service owner, I like to hire MTs from hospitals that outsource to us sm
and often ask if it is OK to talk to the MTs at the hospital. I make sure that they know that I did not "take" their job - it it were not us, another service would have gotten the account.
It hasn't been allowed since HIPAA. MT companies who outsource...
get away with it because they don't tell their clients, and internet wav file capabilities enable them to do so without anyone knowing. Some policy and investigation needs to be enforced to stop this. I say start slapping companies who outsource with huge fines and see how long we have to deal with outsourcing problems. What gets me most is "I can't even get a copy of my own medical record from my doc unless he has a release of medical records form signed by myself on file in my chart, but a doctor can dictate John Smith's medical history, send it to a company who in turns sends it out of the country and back here! Ridiculous.
outsource overseas...and QA and managers "above" MT, period. It was parallel to the old EdiX
too bad, because they used to be awesome, then lost of lot of people skills and adopted the edix mentality...

I hold no grudges, just giving you my own opinion, my own experience. I moved on and am in a better place...
Trust me, there is no legislation in place allowing companies to outsource confidential ...sm
patient records. Clothes, food, etc., yes, but not patient records. Start slapping the "biggies" with "big fines", and see how much lobbying pull they really have.
What nationals?
What nationals or hospitals have this policy of showing doctors how to dictate better?  I have worked at 11 hospitals, clinics and trans services in my career, managed a few, was lead transcriptionist at a few hospitals, supervisor at another and also just an MT at times.  Never have I ever heard of a policy like this.
There were no nationals
Nobody had ever HEARD of outsourcing.  We were all in-house, regular employees, got a REAL SALARY with benefits including LOTS of PTO time, etc.  We were treated with respect and appreciated for our hard work and MT was an actual profession to be proud of.  Then after computers came along and the "want it on the chart 5 minutes before the doctor dictates it" mentality, somebody got the brainstorm that they could make tons of money off of us by getting rid of the in-house departments, "allowing" us to work at home, and only paying us peanuts on a "production only" basis.  The bottom line of "the cheaper the better" took hold, the nationals took over, started outsourcing overseas, and you have the mess we have today.  I guess that about covers it----
Do any other nationals have 10,000 MTs?
Maybe that's why it is talked about so much.  There are 10,000 MTs affected by what they do.
Nationals are no better

Disagree, no matter whether you are an I/C with own accounts or with a national or even small MTSO, we are all at the beck of the doctors.  If they are off or do not dictate, there is no work.  I do not think that the majority of you realize how hard is to balance out having enough staff to do the work to keep the accounts and also keep them busy when the work does not come in, especially when the help does not think twice about someone in the family being acutely ill when they are not, taking off for children field trips on a whim, children being sick or whatever the excuse is not to work.  It takes quite a juggline act to accommodate both employees and acounts themselves.   That said -- flame me as I have already been burnt many times by people who do not have a work ethic or want to work when they want to and not when the work is available.

Nationals are no better....sm
Every group has people who don't come through when they should, doesn't matter what job, etc. but most of us are professional enough that we don't leave our employers in the lurch, certainly not nearly as often as most of them do us, no work, computer down, etc., etc. but, if someone refers to me as "the help" I wouldn't feel too kindly toward them. I would do the job, but don't ask "the help" for any favors.

Sorry...that's a sore spot. Makes me feel like we should be kept in a corner somewhere until we are needed to "help"
If that happens, no more nationals for me!

Big nationals and MTs

I have been in this business over 20 years.  I started when we used IBM Selectrics and tapes.  I have seen this business changing over the years, some good, some bad.  One thing in particular is the very large national companies getting more and more of a monopoly in the transcription business.  This has had an impact on the MT.  I am making less per line than 15 to 20 years ago, and I seen that is widespread in this industry.  I see it is getting more and more impersonal.

20 years ago many MTs were getting 7 to 7.5 CPL.  I see that still happening.  Adjust that for cost of living increases and inflation, and I feel wages have gone down.

Now we must compete with overseas work and if an MT wants to do VR, they must take a pay cut, at some companies of up to 50% of your line rate. I remember many years ago when they were talking about implementing VR, we were told we would not have pay cuts, just be able to type more.  I knew then that they were lying, of course they would cut our wages.  They will squeeze and squeeze to get the most money for themselves.  Many of these CEOs make millions, but what about all the unethical business practices.  Remember Enron.

I feel most of these changes are because of the a few very large nationals changing the nature of the business.  Of course, they want to make as much money as possible.  Everybody does, I cetainly do.  But it seems to me they are doing it at the expense of the individual MT.

Did you know many transcription companies actually train the MTs in India and then give them a job.  If you are in the good old USA, you pay for your own schooling and are lucky to get your foot in the door because of no experiernce.

I think if there were fewer nationals and more smaller companies, maybe the MT would benefit.

Nationals can pay much better
than hospital jobs. If you are capable of 1500 lines in a hospital setting, you can easily do the same at home. With experienc (which you seem to have) you can make at least .95 or .10 per line. Most hospital MTs do not make $150.00 a day. If you want benefits, there are some good national companies with good benefits.

You just need to decide how much your in house job means to you versus staying at home. I work in a hospital during the day and at home in the evening. I make more money at home but I need to see other people so I love going to the hospital 6 hours a day.
No, they don't. Maybe Spheris or the big nationals
that actually send you equipment and take the time to train you, but the little MTSOs don't do anything except set up your user ID and password to get into their system and fax you their contract.  Ooh, 15 minutes out of their lives are gone.  Dreadful.  They expect you to have your own equipment, be proficient with the computer and software, and know how to transcribe medical reports.  Reasonable enough, but it does NOT cost them anywhere near the figures you quoted.
$18.5K two smaller nationals. nm
