If there are any computer repair shops in your area sm

Go to one that is reliable (ask around) and ask them to build you a computer to your specifications. It costs about the same as buying a new computer, and you can get EXACTLY what you want. If you already have a copy of Windows XP, they can put that on the computer they are building (I would advise keeping XP for at least one more year, until Vista works all the bugs out and more companies are Vista-compatible).

As for peripherals like a monitor, printer, etc., you can either keep the ones you have now, see what price the computer place will give you, or catch them on sale at Wal-Mart or one of the computer superstores.

Better still, if you have a friend who is handy with computers, he/she can do the same thing for you. It is just a matter of buying the components and putting them together. My husband has rebuilt and upgraded my computer several times. The one time I did buy a brand new computer, I took it back within a week. It drove me CRAZY!!!

How about a waterbed repair kit or a bike repair kit?

just after I got back from Los Angeles
a police helicopter was flying over the house back and forth one day while I was working, broadcasting something loud over a loudspeaker.  The thing was, you could not understand a word they were saying.  It sounded something like "clear the area... blah blah blah" or "run for your lives, killer zombies approaching" or something like that.  I looked out and saw my elderly neighbor standing outside staring up at them.  They flew back and forth over the house for a long time.  Eventually I just went around and locked all the doors and went back to work.  Life in Los Angeles...
It's offered in Los Angeles. nm

Repair?
Can that program be "repaired" over there where you go to start, etc. and see all your software. Sometimes some software has a "repair program" thing you click on and it makes the program work again. If not, then I heard that we have to re-install. All programs don't have that feature though.
We met where I worked, he came in to repair the TEM in the lab - sm
I found him attractive (and was pretty sure he had been attracted to me) but was seeing someone at the time (Plus he lived in MD 2 hours away)--6 weeks later I was "free again". I happened to ask our usual service guy about him about a month later.....called him that night, engaged 4 months later, married 10 months after that....9 years so far!
thanks for the repair site
Wow! I'm so happy to know of a repair business for my Lexmark SelectEase split keyboard. (They even specifically list this as one they will fix for $45!) I had forgotten the model name, but that's it. I believe IBM bought out Lexmark at one point and continued making the same keyboard.
Lanier repair?
I have a Lanier LX-219-1 with the extended screen, and all of the backlighting is out. Does anyone know of ANYONE who repairs these? I live in the Sacramento, CA area but might be willing to ship out to someone reliable.
Not only do they repair, they can suggest, and

They usually tell people to plan on 4-6 weeks depending on the lifting requirements of their job. Have you asked your surgeon yet? They should be able to give you a good estimate.
Find computer repair store in your town

I haven't read through all the replies, so forgive me if this is a duplicate answer.  Find a computer repair store in your town.  Many times they will take off Vista and reload XP - for a cost, certainly, but it can be done.

Vista isn't bad, it's just that there is so much out there that is not compatible with it yet.  It's a pain, to be sure.

My next computer is going to be a Mac.

Awesome! Here, a local computer repair shop has a similar commercial. Its really funny. nm

C-phone used to call in to dictating systems to receive work. A special phone. nm
nm
I had a lot of trouble with static in my C-phone. I replaced the phone cord and that made a big

difference.  Also, have you tried a different headset?  Also someone told me one time that there is a microphone under your volume control on the right corner of the C-phone.  It's a tiny hole.  If you break off a Q-tip and stick that into the hole that will squelch a lot of background noise and that worked as well.  As far as getting your C-phone service, I heard that Dictaphone is "sunsetting" C-phones at the end of this year.  Meaning, they aren't going to service them anymore as they are considered an obsolete technology.  So, I would contact Dictaphone and see what your options are.

I know very little about Lanier equipment.  I've not used it as extensively as Dictaphone.  Is there a local appliance repair place in your area?  You might ask one of those places to take a look at your equipment and see what they think.  Kinda scary, cause they could do more harm than good, but maybe worth a shot.

Not much help, I know.  But I thought I would share what tiny bit of obscure knowledge I do have.

I've changed them between an old phone and new phone, but the same company, i.e. Nextel.

I use my c-phone whenever we travel. You can hook it directly into your room phone. Be sure and as

I am wondering if there is a way to use your C-phone with Vonage phone service?
??
May have to change phone companies, have switched to job using a C-phone. sm
Currently have Embarq (formerly Sprint), and my usage will be going up about 12,000 minutes a month.  What phone companies offer really unlimited for a flat rate?  TIA.
C-phone and ATT. There is no problem with the C-phone, but ATT wouldn't let me use unlimited.

I have cable phone access and my C-phone works - sm
I am not sure about you problem, because it sounds just like I have mine hooked up.  The only thing I can think of is that mine has 2 line hookups in the back of the phone.  If you have this too, I would just try the other one, which you probably have already done.  Sorry that was not much help.  I wish you luck
I have a very loud hum when using my C-phone, but no hum when I'm using the regular phone. SM

Anyone else experience this problem with their C-phone?  Is there a problem with my C-phone?  At first I thought it was my telelphone line and called the phone company.  They sent a technician out to replace the lines and check the house, but the hum is still there on the C-phone.

It's driving me batty!

C-phone info regarding phone lines etc.
I am completely clueless on the subject of a C-phone.  Can someone help me understand exactly how this works?  Do you have to specifically have a separate "dial up internet" service to use the C-phone? I currently have cable internet and am wondering if there is anything else I need to get.  I guess I should contact my phone company.  At any rate, any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!
If you use a C-phone for work and have a digital phone

through cable, have you tried to take an incoming call?

We only have one phone line.  I rarely get/make calls and when I do we have cell phones.  I just started working with a C-phone and got digital phone.  I can go a month and my phone not ring, so far have gotten 3 calls today, but I'm afraid that if I try to answer the phone that I will lose my report.

I guess I could pull up a report and have my husband call on his C-phone and test it that way and then if I lose it no biggie.

Anyone use/try C-phone with Medicom's phone service?
Wondering if it works?
C-phone and phone line
I have cable for my Internet so I have my C-phone on my regular home phone line and forward my home phone number to my cell phone.
A c-phone is just a phone, with headphones sm

and a foot pedal.  You call into a number (hopefully 800 number), put in your codes, and a voice file comes on.  You use the headphones and the foot pedal, and transcribe on your computer into a word processing program, then send the finished file back per their directions.

The c-phone is not connected to the internet in any way.  There is no downloading involved.  It is just a phone by means of which you get your voice files.  It needs a phone line and you stay on the line the entire time.

c-phone from cell phone
I believe if you check with your cell phone carrier they have an adapter that you can use to plug into your cell phone from the c-phone. Not sure about this but I think I had a friend tell me she had to do this but it was a year or so ago. Hope this helps.
It connects via phone like, just like a C-phone.

I have an old actual C-phone phone if that is what you mean, (sm)
not the newer kind that connects to a computer.  I don't know if yours is programmed the same, but mine shows 8 to decrease and 9 to increase.  Hope this helps.
C-phone and phone plans....
I have a company that I have recently hired on with that uses c-phones.  At home I have an unlimited long distance plan, but I'm wondering if while traveling there is a plan that you can get in order to use a c-phone in a motel, relative's homes, etc.  I like to be able to still work while traveling and I feel this is going to limit me.  Any suggestions or ideas?
Digital phone/C-phone
Does anyone use a C-phone with digital phone service?  Does this work out okay?
Is DSL not available in your area?
It's worth it to have it.  It's tax deductible as a business/work expense.  It's only about $35 a month here total, compared to $20 a month for dial-up.  It's so much faster, more reliable and easier to use than dial-up.  It also doesn't tie up your phone line like dial-up does, so no need for a second phone line and no getting bounced off the Internet when someone calls while you're trying to work.  I'd still have it even if I couldn't write it off on my taxes.
I'm in the D/FW area and we have taken in several ...
and Dallas is making sure the children are in school, there are special job fairs to make sure the adults get jobs, even though our economy was terrible to start with, companies are making jobs for them, and every one that is interviewed says they are never going home and making their home here in Dallas/Fort Worth. I know they need places to say, what happened to them is terrible, but this area really did not need the strain of all the added people. Several of the people have been offered new housing back in their state or such, but they say they do not want to move again. I just think everyone needs to be looking at the big picture as to what is going to happen in the long run, as New Orleans is going to need some of their residents to come back and help rebuild. I have a son that has been looking for a job for over a year in the field he went to school for and has had no luck and now he has to compete against 1000s more people. I just don't get it.
If you have one in your area, may I
They are a corporation who apparently does give a rat's a** about its employees. They don't give their top people big bonuses, etc. and instead pay their employees a living wage...a REAL living wage and have one of the best reputations for treating their employees like real human beings from all I've read about them.
See if this is in your area

Since you mentioned you were also from CA, I was wondering if you have seen much about relocalization and eating local? I have read a lot about this and try to only purchase goods that are produced within 100 miles of my home in the South Bay or if not available within that radius, only from our state. I have also started my own vegetable garden growing different types of squash, lettuce, spinach as well as others in addition to fruit. Everything I am growing is either from seed that is not genetically modified and is organic or I purchased from the nursery from organic growers. My housemate is suprised at how much variety we have with our container gardening. She was just saying this morning that she never realized how easy it was to grow things yourself.

Another thing to support your local farmer is to sign up for a CSA. They had an article not too long ago about how organic goods really wanted by consumers, but even though these goods are organic, they are being brought from different parts of the world, which kind of kills the organic goodness considering you are expending oil to deliver it.

As for offshoring of our work, I have found since I moved to CA getting close to a year ago that there seem to be a lot of companies who do not offshore and will not consider it a consideration. I think there is hope:)
bay area MT . . . sm
You see, I am right!!! They also had an article not too long ago about what the true savings from offshoring work has come out to. Instead of getting the 50% to 60% or more most places advertise to cut costs, the only real savings has been around 20%. They had an article about that in our local paper as well as I think I saw it on Yahoo News if anyone wants to search for it.
What area are you in because....
I had to fight to get $1.35 per minute IC directly from a hospital and was told that was the average.  I recently did some math and figured I was being paid between 8-9 cents per line.  I get 10 for a PT IC position.  Trying to figure if I should ask for more again, especially since I get several different doctors now that they use hospitalists.
Is this in the KC area?
I'm from a town just north of KCMO and plan on moving back in a few months and was just wondering if you worked for one of the hospitals there? I currently work for a national, but am hoping to get a local job when I move back.
None in my area.
Many are mad at this organization because of their stand on things. I am not happy with them at all.
if it's available in your area
This may be getting off topic here but there are some states which have monetary assistance (moolah to you and me) for small small businesses (SSBs). It is the same as first-time homebuyer money, which is aimed to get people into homes who otherwise wouldn't have the downpayment money. But you take classes, come up with a business plan, and I don't know what all else. I was in the homebuyers program for 1-1/2 years, taking classes, working on perfecting credit, etc, and eventually got 10K. In some of my monthly classes there were small small business people participating for state money for starting a business. You will, of course, have to check in your area. Just a thought!
In our area .. Cingular has that

Are their any IC in the Tampa, FL area?

Just wondering if there were any other IC in the Tampa/Brandon area, and do you think line rates are cheap around here??

not sure of the prices in your area

..but gas here is $2.73 (cheap stuff)

Home prices have gone through the roof here.  We sold our home last year for 250, and we bought it 2 yrs prior for 170.  In our area, homes sell before they even make it to the MLS listings.

I am an IC and have no problem finding work.  I have actually turned away 2 offices last week.

Oh, health insurance, may not want to hear this one--we pay 200. per week for a family of four.

I live in the Tampa area.

Best of luck,

Sunny!
