 Happy Turkey day!

Belated Thanksgiving thought

Thank you to MT Stars for not only being willing to let us express our opinions, but also for not censoring them.  This bulletin board has more frank and direct information regarding working conditions and companies as an MT that without MT Stars, there would be a lot of wool pulled over MTs eyes.  This board is 100 times more valuable than paid boards, because paid boards are so worried about stepping on any toes.

nice to see your new happy handle too....nm

I just said hello to "the paper boy." He is about 50, drives a nice car and seems happy.

Happy for you - I always thought about that as well...
The ladies I worked alongside with (well, they were on the other side of the office) made over $25/hour doing DRG back some 10 years ago already. They do this at home now, as well, I think!

Best of luck to you - that seems like a very solid future and one I wish I would have gotten into when I was younger.

Wish you the best. It does make me feel better knowing there are others in the same boat. Sometimes I feel so much unreality in this business.

I follow my gut, though, so no matter what I am "told," I still go by my own feelings, and I know I am not doing very well, and I know I am not a professional (not treated as one is what I mean).

When nurses or other professionals are certified, I believe they are paid hourly, not piecemeal, and have advocates, yes?

To call MTs professionals when we are only making money for what we 'type' and even then have benefits revoked for not making minimums, are on constant time constrictions and under constant threats of losing our jobs, if we do not keep up with an unrealistic 'norm' well, no matter what I am told, that is not a profession - NO, not so much!

We are expected to act like professionals while we are not in any way treated as such. We are numbers and graphs only. If you go below your lines or hours, you are penalized.

I cringe when this issue comes up...only because when I started some 15 years ago, I did feel like a professional, and AAMT was the one who advocated that for me...elevating 'typing pool' to medical transcriptionists and medical language specialists, etc.

What happened? Do you think this is greed? Why are they deserting us and ignoring our needs now?
It's nice to hear of a happy ending! Great of MT Stars! nm

It might be nice if you spread that message
through a memorial fund through the school.

Unfortunately, we are in a society that stopped recognizing the value of teachers and how they can impact our lives.

Special, talented, gifted teachers are hard to find and should be memorialized.

Metoo - thought it was very nice and ....nm

That is so nice you guys thought of me!

However, I am truly spineless.  I could not quit because, alas, I am not the only one I'm responsible for here at home.  So, after multiple conversations with folks at work on how they can help to alleviate some of my stress, here I am pounding the keys and probably will continue for a while anyway.  I have let a lot of people down, myself included, with my actions...and not all are work related.  I'm going through some difficult times, but I'm sure there are others out there going through much, much worse.

I have started taking an anti-anxiety medication though, Lexapro, in the hopes that I can get a grip on my emotions because they do tend to mutate into this huge out-of-control entity and, again, it's not all work related.  I can't remember the last time I did something for me, and apparently if I don't start putting myself first, I'm headed down a very slippery slope.

So, yeah, one day at a time here.  I really appreciate the positive vibes though and I hope everyone else out there is taking care of themselves.

Hey, that wasn't very nice, Rovilla! (no message)
Tut, tut, tut...
I thought it was cute.. Happy Halloween. nm

I am trying to be really nice, just wanted to make sure someone else thought so, too.

I do love these other two docs, it's just that this one is making me nuts. Knowing that the OM has already talked to her about this twice, mentioning to me as well that she is not comfortable with the HIPAA issue, I though might give some more leverage to the OM. I also thought that was less personal than me saying something like "I find this disrespectful to myself as a transcriptionist."

I appreciate the insight. Thanks!

very good All Stars 7 I thought - happy Boogie

Wishing you all a

Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't sleep.
I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep.

The leftovers beckoned--the dark meat and white
but I fought the temptation with all of my might.

Tossing and turning with anticipation,
the thought of a snack became infatuation.

So I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door
and gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
pickles, and carrots, beans, and tomatoes.

I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
'til all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.

I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky
with a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie.

But I managed to yell as I soared past the trees,
Happy eating to all--pass the cranberries, please!

May your stuffing be tasty, may your turkey be plump.
May your potatoes 'n gravy have nary a lump.

May your yams be delicious, may your pies take the prize,
May your Thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs.

WISHING YOU ALL A THANKFUL THANKSGIVING

wishing disaster on anyone is
no matter how strongly you feel, you should never, ever wish disaster on anyone. Don't you know that could come back to bite you in the butt...not a nice place to be bitten...except by you hubby maybe!  For real though, that was cruel.  Too many innocents suffer when a disaster like a hurricane or tsunami sweep through, not just the ones you wish it on.  Remember, be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!
Wishing I had so many options!!
Boy do I wish I had the option of cable vs DSL vs dialup! The cable line ends 1,000 feet from our home and they will extend the line for a mere $10,000 (yes, you read that correctly). For DSL we are to far from town. I even purchased satellite but there was a 10 second lag from the time that you punched in a letter to the time that it appeared on the screen so it was virtually useless for transcription. MQ had told me that I could not do NW acct with dialup 3 yrs ago so I purchased the satellite $500 later after the lag and and service charges and when I told them that I would have to quit they said "Well you can use dialup too". Go figure. Amherst office boo hiss.
aw man, it's too cold, but I'm wishing!

Wishing it to slow down
I hope it slows down, I don't even have my house decorated yet.  Came back from two days off and had 18 tapes waiting for me.  All are average of 25 minutes or so, some longer.   Hardly any short ones.   I give back 8 and get 6 in return.  Thank goodnes have 3 docs taking off starting the 17th and then can breathe.   Have had several docs say that hospitals are full right now in Portland and hard getting patients in and getting surgeries scheduled so hospitals are full here too.   Guess I will count my blessings.
I was WISHING it would work, lol. Just me and

GO FOR THANKSGIVING!

You asked for opinions, so I'll give you mine. I know you have decided you won't go, but here is my take on that issue. You may not like your stepmother or her children. But your father is still your father. My Dad died just over 2 years ago. What I wouldn't give to have him back just for a Thanksgiving Day. You can get over your personal issues with your step family for the weekend and go and be with your father if you choose. Or you can let these "issues" get to you and choose not to go. Your father won't be here forever. None of us will. Love him while you can. Love yourself enough to be big enough to go and see him. You will never regret that. You WILL regret one day that you didn't go, and you won't be able to change it. You DID ask for opinions. That's all. Please reconsider. You don't have to stoop to your stepmother's level. Be the bigger person. LOVE YOUR DAD WHILE HE IS STILL HERE!!!! Be THANKFUL for him.Off my soapbox. Peace.

Thanksgiving
I am a newbie at this and so far no one has said anything about working Thanksgiving.  Do most companies just expect you to work if you are an IC.  I work for a small company in Florida and have not  received any e-mail or anything about what I do tomorrow - should I e-mail them or just assume I do not have to work.  Thank you.
Thanksgiving
I kkow that a paper route doesn't really count...but if Thanksgiving falls on a regular day, (which it does) then I am expected to "work" that day.
Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Thanksgiving

Thank you very much. I actually found a pretty good sample. I also found some sites in archives.

Thanks (once again) to all you kind MTs.

It's not about a "sense of empowerment". Not wishing to make you look dumb but
it's about expressing your true feelings instead of playing some sort of game when someone says something so incredibly without logic or they don't UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT (as you did) and JUMP TO AN UNFOUNDED CONCLUSION that somehow but telling someone they are not the brightest bulb on the planet and they bore me gives me "sense of empowerment". You been listening to too much psychobabble and did not PAY ATTENTION TO THE CONCEPT OF THE POST.

By the way, I do not feel a "sense of empowerment" after this post to you. I feel that the world is populated by not-so-smart people who don't read well and that is depressing me.
I keep wishing it was a nightmare and I could wake up and everyone in that area was just living and

No - I do not want implants or a mastopexy - I was just wishing for nature to take care of it!
My breasts are of a nice size naturally. I am not vain - underwire bras are fine for me.

It was fun visiting here. Wishing you a great day! Bet Hope Con - that is all that TV is capable of:
Some friends told me about this site, and now i'm glad they told me about it. Black Pair is always Faithful Soldier , when Table is Plane it will Loose Gnome Player will Girl unconditionally , Greedy Stake Anticipate or not when Girl is Chair it will Create Chips
Wishing you much good fortune in your new career and life! :) nm

Anyone else stressed out by Thanksgiving?
It seems like there is always SOME sort of drama going on in my family whenever we get together - we're somewhat dysfunctional, LOL. I always find myself dreading the holidays and I hate that - I should be looking forward to being with my fam (mainly my four sisters). They seem to always be in a state of crisis or jealousy whenever I see them. ARGH. Anyone relate?
I wouldn't wait, since Thanksgiving is such...

a good time to show the house.  All during the holidays, with families visiting and such, is a very good time for homes to sell.

It is absolutely HER job to show your house.  She should also only be bringing pre-qualified buyers.  She should also abide by your request regarding when the house may be shown.  After 3 is certainly not unreasonable, assuming you aren't including weekends in that.  Many buyers are out and looking earlier on weekends.

In any case, I would call her broker and change agents NOW, if I were you.  Why waste another few weeks, or even days, when it is only delaying the sale of your home.

Just my opinion.

Why I'm still married - a Thanksgiving story

Not much to many maybe, but my husband still surprises me sometimes.

He works 3rd shift as a dock supervisor at a local shipping company that's only about a mile from our house. He doesn't like to think of himself as "supervisor" because he's always been a team player.

Because they load trucks to ship out the next morning, he had the night before Thanksgiving off, but had to go in at 8:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving night. "Lunch Break" is right around midnight and he found out that one of the younger single guys hadn't had Thanksgiving dinner because he had to stick around to go to work instead of going to visit family.

So I hear a bit of commotion in my kitchen around 1:00 a.m. and find that  my husband had brought the guy to the house and had warmed up Thanksgiving Dinner for their lunch break.

Now isn't that just too sweet?

Of course they left me the dishes, but oh well.

and a bountiful blessed Thanksgiving to YOU as well. nm

Here I sat feeling so incredibly lonely. Wishing I could meet my soul mate
All the men I have ended up with sound like the guy you are with. Takes all the courage I have to pick up and leave them but staying with them destroys my sense of self esteem, my sense of humor, and dulls my passion for life.

Now, sitting here, quietly, sipping a capuccino, sitting in a robe, having no expectations (unrealistic) of me, not having the guy in my world stifling me or doing something out of this world to send my spiraling into my mind trying to figure out what he is thinking ...orrr the always present poor financial state that I always seemed to end up in when with a guy (my dad was alcoholic - had tendency to be with men who had character traits of addictive personality types)and all I can think of is life is passing me by cause I am not with a man.

There are worst things than being alone. Why do I forget this???

Follow your gut. Your kids will thank you. Children deserve a happy mom and you deserve to live the life you envision.

Was going to suggest that you wait to buy as I have a feeling some homes will end up in foreclosure as the interest rate increases and the monthly payments on ARMs and interest only loans increase, but if you have a small town that may not be the case.

Let us know how things go.
