Nothing this year. We ALWAYS got a cool surprise in the past, but this year nothing. :-( nm

what a nice surprise
to get Christian support rather than flamed; it is frightening how few read their Bible and know what it says, even amongst so-called Christians.
thanks bunches! what a nice surprise :)

How nice that he/she received it well. (nm)
(nm)
Yes, I also received nice notes from doctors...
and also had what I called my partner in crime (my coworker) and one of the best MTs I've ever seen in all my years of MT'ing.  We had a doctor throw a container of paperclips on the floor because he was mad that the blank tapes he needed were missing from the desk.  She told him:  You are going to pick every one of those up, and GROW UP!  We never had any more trouble out of him.  We had working relationships onsite that could never be replaced.  We were respected and complimented on a job well done by many of the staff.  Then came outsourcing...  end of story...
You'd be surprised how many hospitals tried it and got rid of it in the last year. sm
I work for a large national that does a lot of radiology work. Yes, there have been a few accounts lost to Powerscribe, but there are several accounts that had tried VR and went back to regular transcription. This is NOT what the doctors want to do. They do not have time to edit; there is a shortage of radiologists as it is and it is getting worse.

Do not give up on radiology!
We received some nice gifts and it was great just to be acknowledged for a job well done.
I hope appreciation never goes away..
We went to a wedding and received our "thank you" a year later! so there is hope.

this past year
ok i feel dumb but if he dictates "in March of this past  year" what year is that?
My 4-year-old male cat has been sneezing this past week and
he's never done this before.  He has no other symptoms that I can see--eating & drinking fine, no runny nose or eyes. He's never had this before. He is primarily a housecat, but goes out in the mornings for a couple of hours to roam around. His shots are current. Does anyone know if this is a sign of something serious?
My goal every year is $52k, which I have done for the past 2 years working sm
for Keystrokes. I do radiology only, I should mention. I took the amount I wanted (actually needed) to make in a year, divided it by 52 weeks, divided it by 5 days, came up with $1000 per week or $200 per day. I divided that by 8 hours and by my report rate ($1.25). I know that I need to transcribe 20 reports per hour on average. I keep a tally. Some days, it takes me longer to do than others, but I sit down and do my 8 hours every single day. I use my Expander a LOT (literally for all but a few words). I am on one account, so I know those doctors inside and out. If I am short at the end of the week, I ask if there is work available on the weekend for me to do. The most I end up with 2 hours to make up what might have been short during the week.

At $40k, you would need to make $153.85 per day, or $19.23 per hour. At $0.07, you need to type 275 lines per hour, or 2200 for the day. This should be very easy to get with using an expander and sitting down with a set schedule.

It takes a while to get used to making sure you hit your internal quota every day. I have to think of it daily and make it up on Saturday or Sunday so that I never start a week behind my personal goal.

I also take an incentives that are handed out (for instance if they are asking for help in a backlog situation at increased rate) and work at least a partial shift on holidays. If I am ahead at the end of the week, I carry it to the next week and know that I have some lines in my internal quota bank.

I know this sounds weird, but it works for me. I have helped a few others to get to their goals as well, and this seems to work for them too.

I would also look for something that is more in the 0.08 to 0.09 per line range. Ask your lead for production tips. Ask other transcriptionists. It is very possible for us to make good money, we just have to focus on our goals.

I have a sales background, which involved sales quotas. This is easier as I am in control of my daily production, not on someone else's decisions.

Good luck!
27-year-old born with no past medical history
I had that the other day. Is anyone actually born with a past medical history?
Wow, what a nice way to help others at this time of year. nm

I am surprised you are surprised it went downhill..

Surprise
Wouldn't the people in the airport be surprised! LOL.
To taken by surprise sm

Don't hire her, ignore her, she's trouble! Been there, done that, she's a prima donna, a "queen" and you don't need her. Anyone who says they'll let you know before you even offer them a position is a megalomaniac, so full of herself she'll never listen to you. I'd rather have someone who is a true "listener," she's not. If you think she was rude at the interview, wait until you try to work with her! Stay clear of her.

Doesn't surprise me
They seem to be turning them into regional offices.
You might be in for a surprise considering he replied..

Noodle surprise.....
Wonderful casserole with hole wheat noodles, onions, mushrooms, yogurt, veggie cheese. I don't eat anything with a face.
By the way, the X tip didn't work!! What a surprise!!
Thanks for trying, though!
We've been doing this for 1-1/2 years. It's no surprise. nm
nm
Doesn't surprise me, that organization is as (sm)
shifty as they come. A coupla' broads got VERY rich by selling the rest of us down the river.
My last QA review was a BIG surprise. Here I thought I SM
always topped 98% and routinely cut into my potential earnings to maintain my own standard. Wrong! The QA person's explanations for my mistakes were confusing and seemed in some cases to contradict the guidelines and in others just plain wrong, but I figured my job was to pass the review and get back to work, so I tried again. Failed so completely I was going to be put on probation, allowed to do something like 10 or 15 reports a day until my performance came back up. So I contacted my account manager, who told me she'd take care of it, and that was the end of it. Something I heard later suggested that QA person was still there causing trouble months later. Maybe you should talk to your supervisor. I'd also start gathering documentation of prior reviews for the Labor Board if that raise doesn't come through. There are plenty of companies out there looking for skilled MTs.
That should unnerve everyone, but it shouldn't surprise us. nm

No surprise companies have the upper hand....sm
With a law that says an employer can "fire at will"...I have a hard time thinking the unfairness is NOT supposed to be that way. I could bore you with my past experience but I won't..lets just say after 28 years working in one hospital,an employee file with every yearly evaluation saying "exceeds standards"..the number that was done on me by an HIM director who i later was to learn found out I knew she was "playing doctor" with one of our married OB/GYN physicians and must have felt a bit threatened by that... is a story straight out of a "Fatal Attraction" spoof. On seeing my file in the end.. there was entry after entry of documentation that was literally untrue and fabricated.... when asking a lawyer what I could do.. the answer was nothing... they can fire at will... Some employers... and more specifically HIM directors...are bad people too...
What a very sweet surprise! Happy Mothers Day
nm
But why sign it to put the past behind? The past should have

It seems that they dredged up the past by wanting the release signed to keep them out of trouble for unfair employment practices.  Usually when a person ends the working relationship, they give formal written notice, the company accepts the notice, and the employment is over.  Smells pretty fishy to send a termination agreement and, oh by the way, sign this release.  LOL

When pets are not confined or supervised, things like this should not be a surprise. nm
:P
she posted later that the ages were pretty evenly spread, which seemed to surprise her. She figured
Lots of moms with younger kids!
How nice is this keyboard? Nice light touch?
I have a regular Microsoft ergonomic one now but I'm thinking I should probably get a replacement and use mine as a backup.
I was nice today, and people were nice to me.
If you steer away from the nastiness, there are a few nice and encouraging posts in there.
Why am I not surprised.

Wow! I am surprised
When I vacuum every week with my Fantom, I can dump the cannister up to three times (and no we are not filthy-lol) while vacuuming our one story ranch home, about 1600 square feet, and we get a LOT of dog hair (and our dogs are on very high quality dog food that is expensive and take supplements/vitamins for their skin/coats) as well as dust and debris, and always have had hair from the three Shih Tzu we have. I know they don't shed nearly as much as most dogs do though.

When I purchased my my first Fantom, I used a Hoover vacuum that I owned at the time and did a room with it and then used my Fantom and what the Fantom picked up was incredible.

I asked for the experience of someone who have used both to compare fairly the Fantom with the Dyson and your experience sounds very impressive! I really appreciate your input.

Thanks so much.
You'd be surprised
The 'Oprah' show for example. Many people who are big fans of hers order transcripts for 'keepsakes' or 'souveniers' so to speak. This is compounded, like if a guest like Tom Cruise or other celebrities appear, fans of these people will order a transcript for the same reason. I have a relative who worked there for a few years who gave me some insight on this. There are many many people who could care less about tapes and DVD's. They prefer the transcript.
Not surprised :). nm

I'm surprised you'd ask......

your job is to flag discrepancies.  Your job is to get the record straight.  Your job is NOT to guess or assume.  But you already knew that, didn't you?

Well can't say I'm surprised, look
at the President.  How smart does he come across?  And what about the voters that voted him in?  What's their excuse.  Very sad when American is on the downslide from being the world leader.
I was surprised at
Taylor's performance - almost pitiful. Liked Chris - I LOVE that song. Thought Paris was very cute and I loved her little bucaneer outfit, I liked her hair that way also.
surprised no one said...

The Wizard of Oz...   Maybe Gone with the Wind and Imitation of Life... I love tearjerkers!

surprised?

According to People magazine, Star said she was told her contract was not going to be renewed for the 10th season.  She has apparently known this for awhile but just felt today was the time to let the audience know.  She told People she felt she had basically been fired.  Guess it really will be a new direction for the view this fall.

You might be surprised (sm)

Lots of crummy ESLs say the same phrases over and over again, and once you know what they are saying, you have a standard (free lines!)  The hospital I work for is about 80% ESLs and I have some form of standard for nearly all of them. There is one Indian cardiologist who comes to mind.  Any time someone asks me what department I work in, and I tell them transcription, they say, "Oh, how can you understand Dr. So and So?  I always hear him dictating and he talks sooooo fast."  And yes, it is true.  He does talk fast, but everything he says, whether it is on the past history, PE, ROS, consent, he very routinely says a lot of the same phrases.  He is terrific lines!

I guess you are in a position where you can say who you will type for and who you won't.  Good for you.  I don't know anyone that fortunate.  Most of us just need a paycheck and we take what we can get, like it or not.

You'd Be Surprised...
At just what kids are getting pierced these days. Ouch!
Not surprised!
I'm not surprised it knocks you out. I took amitriptyline for about 15 years. It is calming in itself, but the other drug is a benzo, like Valium:

What are Amitriptyline; Chlordiazepoxide tablets? (Back to top)
AMITRIPTYLINE; CHLORDIAZEPOXIDE (Limbitrol®, Limbitrol® DS) is a combination tricyclic antidepressant and benzodiazepine used to treat depression. This medicine can lift your spirits by treating your depression, especially if it is associated with anxiety. Federal law prohibits the transfer of this medicine to any person other than the patient for whom it was prescribed. Do not share this medicine with anyone else. Generic amitriptyline; chlordiazepoxide tablets are available.

not surprised
Well I suspected as much.. but hadn't heard anything about that so I couldnt say. LOL
You surprised me!
I was braced to hear a derogatory and/or nasty post but was instead pleasantly surprised to read a constructive, nonaccusatory post.

You have certainly given us some information to think about, and I do appreciate your post.
I am surprised
lots of people don't use Expanders extensively? No expanders, no $$. I (not fondly) remember the days of typing everything single thing out.
Wow!! Why are you surprised? sm
There are so many different personalities that nothing surprises me anymore.

I probably wouldn't hire her either.

Just go with your gut feeling and hire who you think would be the best candidate. Good luck!
I'm not surprised at all!

AAMT (by whatever name it chooses) has ALWAYS been about making money.  I remember when my Iowa Chapter was begun. Anyone with 5 or more years' experience could be grandfathered in. I only had 2 years under my belt, but a couple of transcriptionists with whom I worked had over 10 years each. One was an extremely talented Transcriptionist and most likely would have aced the CMT test. However, the other one was just awful (examples of misspellings: payed, recieve, intellagent....so you can imagine the errors in the medical terminologh). Not only was her work not up to par, but she only transcribed the easiest doctors and even at that only produced 12 to 13 reports in an 8-hour shift (average was 20 to 25).

Needless to say,  I was very skeptical of an organization that used the grandfather clause. After all, wasn't this supposed to be the stamp of excellence? Can you imagine the nursing profession allowing someone who took care of ill family members for a few years to be able to put the RN initials behind their name? This is why I felt it utterly unnecessary to become a member. I wasn't the only one who felt that way, either. It really looked like they were money hungry, and as long as you were a paying body (who typed a couple of letters per day for a few years), you could have your CMT. I felt no need to pay a couple of hundred dollars to belong to the organization that just allowed membership without testing to an extremely incompetent transcriptionist.

About 10 years later, I did become credentialed. The test was done in 2 parts at that time (written and practical). I passed and became a member. I kept up the CUs for several years, but then let it expire because even though I enjoyed the symposiums, I still didn't feel the initials had great meaning (I mean, how would people know I wasn't grandfathered in?) More importantly, I didn't receive increased pay at my job, and the cost of keeping the CMT active outweighed the information obtained at the workships and seminars.

AAMT (ADHI) and whatever they decide to call themselves in the future has in my opinion always been about the money. This isn't the first (and probably not the last) time they've thrown the (American) transcriptionist under the bus.

We were surprised as
well. I am still in shock.
JD, you'd be surprised....sm
...how many MTs do just that--knowingly put in wrong info, out of laziness or just for the sake of faster production. I used to see it all the time, and times have probably not changed that much. Unprofessional but true.
