Absolutely correct! And . . .
I've been an MT since 1978 and the MT world revolved quite nicely in the days when we were all in-house and given credit for having a brain and being able to figure out how to compose a coherent paragraph with the crap dictation we were given to work with. QA never existed then and everything was just fine. No lawsuits that I can recall, so this is just more red-tape nitpicking on the part of the at-home services to kiss the client's butt and make them think they're getting something special.

So lame.
Absolutely correct!
Stupid people remain stuck in neutral. That's why they're stupid.
You are absolutely correct. Here's my fix.
I think that probably the easiest solution for those companies is to just hire employees. When it comes to trying to meet client TATs, scheduling shifts, etc., ICs are mainly a pain, anyway.
Absolutely correct!
People who knock college are just jealous of the people who did have the ambition and brains to go, and spend their lives complaining, passing blame, and resenting others (and themselves).
You are absolutely correct
My oral surgery practice wants me to put cc, not mL. The paying customer's preference comes first!

Happy Fourth of July, all, by the way.
that would be absolutely correct!!

You are absolutely correct...

However, I worked on-site and only made $25,000.00 after 17 years, started at $7.00 an hour.  So, the ones who say they made $75,000.00 are not giving you all of the facts.

The realm of an MT per hour is from 13-17 an hour; look it up.  It's true.  However, if you have your own accounts (which I do), I charge more per line and have templates set up so that I breeze through my dictators that I've done for the past 10 years, which yields me around 25-30 an hour.  These circumstances are not common, I know that now.

I think you're doing great!  Keep up the good work!  I'm not here to blast ya'!  You are the wave of the future; no MT will get rich and never have been rich.

I think some of us who have been in this profession though see that it's tough to raise rates at this time because of the fear of losing the account to a large company.  I'm just a small guy, I don't require much really, so I'm happy with what I make.  I also love being at home full-time.  I'm able to manipulate my schedule and not feel so "hum-drum."  I learn something new every day, not all pretty either, but I've learned more specialties working online than on-site.

At this point in my life (I'm in my 30s), this profession suits me just fine.  Advice to new MTs, give it a whirl!  You may be surprised that you really can make some money if you just relax and stop listening to the "nay-sayers."  As a matter of fact, I have never done VR, but think it would be interesting.  If pretty much everything is there, then all the better; this may be another good way for a new MT to break into the business and learn is with the VR...

Endorsed by an MT who still feels "liked, wanted, and needed" in this profession!

You are absolutely correct.
It should be 'were given'. Before having children and staying home to MT, I spent 6 years teaching English and grammar - 'were' in this case is grammatically correct.
Yes you are absolutely correct....

It is the on-site jobs that gets ya' out there....  Some docs are just great payers and know good work when they see it.  I think they like local because you are familiar with all of the things that go into that report, i.e., referring physicians, facilities, diagnostic centers, etc.  It saves them the headache of correcting all of those mistakes.

My own personal PCP has complained to me in an office visit about the local hospital that uses an outside service and can never get his name right.  The problem is that the physicians are not the ones making the decisions, it is the hospitals that make those decisions as far as in the hospital environment.  I know physicians at the hospital that I worked at that were p'od when they found out we would no longer be transcribing their reports.  They were just so set in their ways and they got good TAT and a good quality report - but no more, and yes I still to this day hear terrible feedback about the outsourced company and how the doctors spend countless hours correcting things.  End of Story...  {sigh}

You're absolutely correct sm
I've had editors tell me that they love getting my reports with blanks because they know they can go directly to the blank and try to fill it in, they say some MTs they have to almost completely re-type the report which takes more time than typing it in the first place.  I know this to be true from my own editing.  I tried to work with the MTs if they could be salvaged.  If they still insisted on not doing their job, I did my job until they were relieved of their work duties.  :)
AFib is absolutely correct...nm

Above two replies absolutely correct!
Rules and standards are necessary but they should be uniform. ''Rules'' cannot be followed when they are arbitrary--the individual preferences or whims of whatever QA person gets the report. Great posts!
Absolutely...this is the place to correct
and please correct me before I send a mailing to doctors! I do think cai would appreciate it in that respect. Definitely, help a sister out when you get a chance!
poster above is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT...sm
A tech support person who used to work for a certain company I used to work for...well, we knew one another before and after we both quit, he gave me the scoop on what these companies do. It is underhanded and deceitful and downright dishonest. that is why I do NOT trust NOT ONE MTSO anymore....they are all dishonest......I don't care how good a company is stated to be on any board.

All they care about is the mighty dollar...the owners of all of these companies....they are getting richer and richer and some of us are one foot away from being homeless.

I have no respect for any of these companies, nada, zero.....
Absolutely correct! Snow Bunny is right! nm

Absolutely!!! Mine has been correct 95% of the time....
BUT - you have to do your own or have somebody knowledgeable do it for you. You really have to know what you're doing and understand it. The 5% that I don't get right is because of "pilot error" - screwed up on the math - AGAIN!!!
Mom's a smart lady and absolutely correct!
Online dating also falls into the desperate category. If someone doesn't want to meet people the conventional, in-person way, they have to be:

1. Socially challenged.
2. Facially challenged.
3. Vertically challenged.
4. Weight challenged.

There are a lot of people out there who do that kind of thing and that's their choice, but I'd rather meet face to face instead of trolling the computer from behind a monitor looking for goofs that no one in the real world would want.
you too are absolutely correct! Client pref rules..NM

You're absolutely correct - they always pull that card when they have nothing else

You read my post ABSOLUTELY correct. Supervisors don't need my appreciation nor
do I need their's.  We all just want to get paid if you are honest.  I don't have time to worry if I am appreciated by MQ.  I just want them to pay me for an honest day's work.  I guess that shows they like me, they really, really like me.  Talk is cheap.  I get it all the time from MQ CEO/management, how much I am appreciated.  I just want to paid for my time and don't want to hear all the talk.  I mean who really cares.  So if they appreciate me and don't pay me for my efforts, what do I do with this "appreciation"?  Bank it?
I absolutely agree with you. You've made it grammatically correct
hope this all comes through.

Your change is much better than the one suggested below which totally changes the sentence and would not be correct in my opinion.
Six feet under drama
Nate sure left a mess, so far they've bad mouthed the Iraq war, fantasized brother and sister romance (shudders), where else will they go?   Who's going to be a goner in the finale, I feel its coming.  They've set it up where anyone can either off themselves or do something crazy and accidentally die.
What a drama queen. sm
You do not one, but two posts about what sounds like an allergic reaction, even maybe progressing to an anaphylactic reaction, ask a couple different times if your husband needs to see a doctor, etc., and then you tell the people who replied to you that they're panic ridden?

Silly old goose.
That was the only drama here lately. Bet that MT poster is

some people need drama/excitement

Some people just thrive off of turmoil.  I'm not saying that your son does.  I just know some people like that--always creating drama.  Like a roller coaster.  Maybe he just likes the constant challenge.  Of course, if she really is a lesbian then it is a battle he cannot win.  Can't complete with that.

Not looking for drama in innocent post. Thread

Exactly my point, as stated below. Some just love spreadin the drama.
.
Wow!...after reading her previous thread, I feel sorry for the kid about to be born into this drama!
.
Turn off the soap opera network and get a clue, drama queen!
That's what a lot of you around here do, find drama in otherwise innocent posts.  Get a life, get back to work.  And above all else, you call me a hypocrite and yet you sit in judgment of me.
Do it correct always. It will learn. Everyone has to do it correct all the time. nm

MQ drop down box
Came with the new update @ 4:00 am yesterday, the one that had the system shut down for 2 hours.  Gave plenty of notice and if you check the little box next time you go into DocQmanage, you can read all about the new and improved :)
I would drop by

I always pursue until they tell me that they have gone with someone else.  I am not super aggressive I just let them know I am interested.  But it does sometimes take a while to get an answer but it sure wouldn't hurt to drop a brochure by or at least mail one out.  Whose grandson was screaming in the background?  If it was your MIL that could have been a turn off but not sure.  Anyway good luck, see if she will let you become the Public Relations and you start pursuing accounts.

Let's drop this

I have getting lots of email with SUPPORTIVE ANSWERS to my questions. The rest on this board are a bunch of hostile women too lazy to read what I wrote. I took early retirement because my children are defending a bunch of slackers ande users in Afghanistan and Iraq and there are three grandchildren to keep. I live a four hour round trip from the other grandma they are living with. I am not trying to cheat ANYONE you nasty. I was trying to find out HOW to become an IC and WHAT the best tax options were. Don't tell me YOUR sorry behind is paying unecessary taxes. It is PERFECTLY LEGAL TO HAVE THE TAX TAKEN OUT OF HIS PAY. Till I got sick and my children were deployed, I was the breadwinner in this family and I earned $60K a year. Then I had heart failure, diabetes and lost toes in my feet and I STILL worked. But I will not toss my grandchildren out. I am 62 and I HAVE to work but I cannot work full time. That bothers you? If it was immoral or illegal, then the government would not ALLOW you to work and collect social security at the same time, you fool. But they DO, but ONLY UP TO A CERTAIN AMOUNT. If you can't answer a simple question, stop bashing me. I am not doing a singlething immoral or illegal and I have had four offers already from THIS web site that are within my restrictions. If it was illegal, would they do it??? NOT!

Now drop it and leave me alone.

Why drop him?

You have nothing to lose, but everything to gain.  I don't quite understand.  Once they dictate, then type it when you can.  You can only be as consistent as they are, so if it takes longer to get it back to them, then so be it.  If it is good income that you don't want to lose, I would stick it out.

Furthermore, you are making yourself look bad by complaining.  If he comes across a colleague that may be looking for a transcriptionist, he may not recommend you due to your complaining.  You want to keep a good reputation.  JMO.

Drop dead.

perhaps you could drop your TC a note...sm
just to say hi, and welcome.  She/he has many, many more people to get in touch with than you do, so why not make the first move? I'm not at all trying to be ugly, please don't take it that way, it's just, why not just send a message saying hi, and introducing yourself? Just a thought! Good luck with whatever you choose to do!!!
perhaps you could drop your TC a note...
I guess you mean Transcription Coordinator -- what I called my new supervisor. I hear you, but I really don't see that as my responsiblity. MQ is so chaotic, I always get the impression they'd greatly prefer not to be bothered. I'm kinda way past that point with that. Thanks for the welcome anyhow.
perhaps you could drop your TC a note...
I think you've misunderstood me. I agree completely with your most recent post, i.e. being left alone to do my job. Absolutely. I just don't think a courtesy note from a new supervisor is too much to ask. That's not breathing down my neck; IMO, that's courtesy, i.e. Here I am, I'm your new supervisor, here's how things may or may not change, just wanted to say hi and make proper notation of the fact that a change has taken place. WHATEVER.
perhaps you could drop your TC a note...
Okay, now you're making me mad. You don't know me, and you have no right to lump me into a goup with "(my) fellow nut-case MTs" ...and you have the gall to say "nothing personal"? Freakish behavior? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! Wow, I came on here looking for some support, and now I'm a freak and a nut case. No thanks! See y'all around!!!
perhaps you could drop your TC a note...
Read your phrase: "your fellow nut-case MTs." It does not say "your fellow MTs, some of whom are nut cases."

Read your phrase: "freakish behavior en masse." It does not say "the freakish behavior of some MTs."

Both of these groupings include me. You are guilty of bad syntax and just plain rudeness. I consider these equally offensive. I most certainly did not fly off of any handle, nor did I (until now) TAKE TO WRITING IN CAPITAL LETTERS TO EXPRESS MY OPPOSITION TO YOUR POINT OF VIEW when a little careful wording would've rendered that unnecessary. I proved you point? You sure proved mine. GOODBYE.
no, we are only a drop in the bucket of MQ

PLEASE, lets drop this....

I got the help I needed for today.  Let's just drop it.

FTP/digital drop box
Hi,  I am looking for a method of receiving my dictations that is secure and large enough to hold the dictations without problems like I sometimes have through email.  Someone mentioned FTP/digital drop box.  Has anyone used this?  Can you explain the pros and cons of this.  Thanks in advance.
RE: Drop Chute

Thank you so much.  I would much rather use an FTP site.  I had just never heard of Drop Chute before.

I would only drop him if he does a month's

income drop
My production is about even with SR/VR as straight transcription, sometimes even less (the reports come in that full of garbage). Hence, with a rate per line decrease, my hourly pay dropped to 1/3.

Not for long. I just won't lay down and take that sort of abuse. And I do consider this situation abusive.

I have yet to find anyone that I can verify that that they are producing double, let alone triple their usual transcription lines per hour.
If you are careful with putting the correct report in the correct report shell and patient, you will
not have any problems. I only take away this option when someone is careless. There can be NO room for error on this. One mistake can be very serious. Many do it well though, so just double check and you will be fine.

afraid insurance is going to drop me...
Two years ago I became an independent and have individual insurance.  During the application I put on there I had quit smoking (former smoker).  I now have a procedure coming up, and during the consultation for this procedure, my doctor asked me if I smoked.  Well, I do "occasionally" but I did not expect him to ask that question, so I fumbled and said "yes, but not every day."  Now is this grounds for my insurance not covering me?  Is it possible they can dig through the paperwork specifically to find this and nail me on it?  Or can it be accepted that at the time I signed on with them, I in fact was not a smoker, but started up between then n now, so they have no grounds?  I'm scared, as I cannot afford this procedure out of pocket!!!  What do you guys think?
They can drop you, jack up your premium, or ....
Doctors ALWAYS ask if you smoke, especially if you are having surgery.  Smoking makes you heal slower, heal improperly and can affect anesthesia choice.  I don't know that the fact that you smoke "occasionally" will be transmitted to the insurance company, yet you should yourself report it to the insurance company.  Smoking is still smoking and is still a serious health risk.
