You will have to play with it to see what works for you, but I found it works best if I can take a piece (approx. 1/8-1/4 of a pill) about 20 minutes before my shift starts. Even though I don't feel real tired yet, it seems to help with my brain/hand coordination. If I take it at the last minute, I often will shave some crumbs of the pill too and sprinkle those in my mouth (then drink water). Those will dissolve and get into your system more quickly.

Some nights I find I need a little more or a little less. (I'll just take another little hunk if still very tired in an hour or so.) Then I just take a little periodically throughout my shift to keep me going. : )

You can get pill cutters (which I keep forgetting to look for in the store). I use a knife but have almost cut my finger a few times which isn't a good thing for us MTs. :)

Good luck. And, the others are right that it would be a good idea to see your doc too. I have been wanting to do that, but my company has been doing job cuts and I'm afraid to have any illness on my health record in case I have to buy my own insurance again. (Think I might have a thyroid issue.)
