One of the things I miss from my in-house job..sm

is THE CHAIR! It had a split back and you could adjust about 5 different ways. It was SO comfortable. I know the place where it was purchased and as soon as I get enough $$ (like $500!) I want to get it. I, too, suffer from lower back problems as of late with my "cheap" chair.

Sounds like you need a good back rub too! LOL!

Can I come to your house? I miss wood heat (sm)

That was our only heat source for over 20 years. It started out as a backup heat source, but soon became our only source.  We lived in a 5 room house back then and it heated the whole place.  If it was 5 degrees outside, it was wonderful to walk into the house. It felt like a cozy warm blanket wrapping around you as soon as you opened the door.  I was never cold. We kept a metal box fan behind it to blow the heat through the rest of the house, and a 30 gal soup pot on top filled with water for humidity. I even cooked a lot of meals on top. Had a whole set of cast iron pans, including the dutch oven. Meals were great. The only thing I didn't like was the "dirt" from the wood.

We now have forced hot air. I hate it. I'm always cold. I still have the wood stove but it's in the storage shed. Can't talk DH into installing it in the house. The only time I am warm is when I go up to the garage where my DH has an old Kenmore apartment size wood/coal kitchen stove that I bought for him a couple years ago. Guess where I spend all my free time...

The guide is one of the things I would miss.

More than anything I miss "info" with cable.  When watching at my mom's there is no way to pull up and see what movie/show you are watching, how long it will be on, etc.  I can see where that would be confusing for an older person.  Of course your FIL deserves to decide what he wants, but even with Directv you can get a simpler remote and just surf the channels, avoiding the guide and such all together.  We deleted the channels that we don't have so that they just don't show up when surfing, or even in the guide.  It is fairly easy to edit them out, and then put them back in later if you need or want to.

Of all the things I ever lost, I miss

Haircuts are the one things I will still do. It gets me out of the house every 6-8 weeks. nm
:}
Or discpline time! My kids would be very sorry if they threw things at me or in the house. Two hours
is not too long for them to give you some space.  That's really sad for you, but maybe try to rein them in.  Can't hurt, right?
Bad things? what bad things? people's being petty and small?
x
And I bet you miss Dan Rather

how'd I miss that one? nm

him here in KY

Hit or Miss?

Ok, from what I am gathering is that it is pretty much a "hit or miss" when it comes to taking MT courses, no matter who they are.

I have never heard anyone say anything negative about Andrews or M-Tec.  Is it possible that ALL of their students are 100% satisfied?

What I miss and what I don't

What I miss from in-house - being able to talk to the doctors and techs about problem reports, being able to ask for clarification and get an immediate answer, very easy QA, very easy dictations, the easy wardrobe (we wore scrubs), the security and perks, knowing if I had a low production day or took vacation my check wouldn't suffer, and the friends I made there.

What I don't miss - Getting paid the same (or less) than than slackers, having to rotate weekends, constant interruptions, constant demands (fax this, drop what you're doing and find my report, boring staff meetings while the work piles up, shop/cook for this potluck), little kids screaming in the hall, politics and getting along with difficult people.

But I'd say - go for it, if you'll make more money at a job that close, its a chance in a lifetime.

Did I miss something?!
Why do people insist I am not listening, researching, and typing?! I am so stressed out to the max to try and impress people for what?! Pennies per line! No feedback anyone gives me is going to change the fact that the blind leads the blind at the service?! Do it this way, no do it that way?! No "listening" is going to make an ESL talk any better, slower, or clearer! Wow! I came here for support, from people who understand, not to get a "keep trying, you'll never know everything!" I NEVER said ANYTHING about not wanting feedback or about my ability! None of this has to do with what was originally posted! Please, only reply with what pertains to the actual post! Thanks!
did I miss something? what does this message mean?
Just wonderin' , BTW!
Dont miss it at all......

Been without it for a year now.  I have a greater appreciation for PBS!!  And, I find that since I have the television on less, I am much more productive.  My kids are out of the house now, I currently live alone, so did not need cable.

I do get my fix of viewing when I spend the week-ends at my fiances place tho.

MQLOVER I miss you too
Are you with Frankie Boy. Heard he got banned. May be you guys are out. It is Friday night.

Did Zipper go with you?
I miss Janelle!
Darn Maggie and Yvette! Janelle deserved to win Big Brother 6, IMHO. She was the best. Hate what's left of the "Nerd Herd."
I love BB6 and I miss
Janelle, too! I don't want either Ivette or Maggie to win! They are disgusting.
Oh, it's Miss I Have the Last Word!
Okay, here's my reply. Go ahead and post yours now.

Control freaks always want to home school. I should have known.

LOL

So predictable.

Okay, honey, go ahead and post. I know you're itchin' to!
I miss the hospitals too.
But things are so different there now that the online companies exist. It changed the way transcription is handled in most places. When I went back to working for a hospital last year, the supervisor wanted a certain amount of lines per day versus minutes per day like the old days. It was an outrageous number and with no Expander or medical speller or anything.

I miss dancing

Haven't gone out dancing since about 1990.

I told my 24-year-old I want to go before I die and she said she would take me to a club with drag queens who perform on stage. I can't wait!!!

did I miss anything good?
xx
you miss the point entirely...sm

the posting is very specific as to what information to provide to apply for the job. No one is telling anyone WHEN or HOW to do any work. We are not even there yet. And I am well aware of what the IRS definition is of a contractor - you forget that one of the requirements is that the IC is supposed to provide THEIR OWN equipment to get the work done.

As far as buying software to work for you that they probably wouldn't be able to use elsewhere-- they don't have to. I never said they had to. I just said if they wanted THIS JOB, they had to. I specifically gave the example of a C-phone. I hardly consider a C-phone to be equipment you can't use anywhere else. And if they are aren't willing to buy the C-phone...fine.  But then don't apply for a job posting where you are told it is required!!!

For the attachments, I didn't say it was a big deal. I know how to delete. The point is: Hello?  can you follow directions? Can you read?

"Most other companies either do payroll deductions or provide software at no charge with the explicit language in the contract that software is to be deleted upon termination." And tell me how many of those companies are willing to hire and train a newbie fresh out of MT school? I'll give you a hint, starts with Z for zero.

If you can't afford the equipment that is listed in the job as a requirement for the job, then don't apply. That's all. I just don't get why they are applying when they aren't willing to fulfill their end of the proposal?

Miss all the action too. Not like it used to be.

Used to work for an old country GP. Had a guy stagger in with the tip of his finger hanging from a close encounter with a table saw. Blood everywhere. We gave him a roll of paper towels and went to fetch "the mop" out of the garage. It was 20 below out and the mop was frozen solid so we ran it under hot water in the kitchen sink and cleaned up the blood spills. No gloves. No worries.

Many stories from that place. My favorite was the patient in the waiting room with a paper bag full of baby chickens that he had to bring in because it was too hot in the car and he had to stop in on his way home for his weekly BP check.

I sometimes miss the noise of the sm
keyboard. I really liked the sound of the IBM wheelwriter. My kids use to say it sounded like shooting a gun when I would be in my office typing.
I reply to either because I don't want to miss a
possible good opportunity.  It doesn't matter to me if the pay rate is listed or not.
L'il Miss know it all
I think someone should chase you around with a pitchfork. I am surprised that anyone would even hire you with your nasty attitude. The world does not revolve around you, although you seem to want to make it so.
Yes, my friend and I miss her :-(

What a small world!

miss the old days
I, for one, miss the old days when an MT could work at their local hospital and make a very nice hourly wage with benefits, not to mention all the on-the-job learning on a daily basis, having doctors sometimes within ear-shot that you can ask a question. I have not made decent money since our hospital outsourced.  It's a shame that the transcription department and its employees are a thing of the past.
You miss the point. sm
You're talking about a level of knowledge versus our discussing skill.

The SKILLS are the same for QA and voice recognition editing. Reviewing word-for-word, 100% attentive, etc.

Level of knowledge may be different between new MTs and QA but not always, lol. I have seen plenty of QA who can be outdone by nonmedical persons.

administrator...one other thing I miss

...is the most recent comment posted that used to be right on top...quick glance, you could tell if there were any new posts, or maybe new responses to a post.

I love it! It is on tonight- don't miss it! nm
nm
Yes he is, and boy, do I miss days of Transquick.
It was not perfect.. but man.. we had a good time and they treated us well (not that we would have known it then by the bitching we did.. but man oh man.. I miss us).
Boy do I miss the days I rode
Gas was $2.72/gal this morning and people were complaining to the radio station. When I went to fill up at 330pm, one station had just changed to $3.07 and the one I ended up at was $2.97 - that is for regular gas. Plus, it was raining sideways while I filled up so I got completely soaked. Maybe I should have just bent over to complete the deal, huh!
I agree! I miss Howie too! nm
.
Do U guys miss us MQers?

I started out on a selectric & sometimes miss it!! nm
nm
Very true Miss Trixie!

They could diagnose someone's fate, but couldn't operate a copy or fax machine if their life depended on it..what was I thinking?? lol

That's uncivilized!!!!
Don't Miss working at home at all..sm

When my children were young it had its purpose, but I much prefer my job outside of the home now. For starters, paying for all the benefits I have now (health, life, 401K, paid education, sick leave, vacation leave, paid holidays, and taxes) adds up to about 75% of my salary. When I'm at work, I'm at work and when I'm home, I'm home. I don't get taken for granted anymore and people don't assume "I don't really work since I'm at home".

I've lost 28 lbs in the last five months in part due to having a regular schedule. I like getting dressed every day.

I like knowing I get regular salary increases ($6.00 an hour in less than two years), and I like knowing I can get promoted (will be 2 promotions in 2 years in August).

Granted there are pros and cons to both, but I find the office stuff is only a problem if you let it be. I'm much less chained to a desk. I have three people under me, but I prefer to run all my own errands. I like not being responsible for all the decisions all the time. Meetings are no more frustrating than struggling through an ESL report someone else threw back.

Did I say work is work and home/play time is home/play time. Nothing better than a 10-day vacation at the beach knowing your full paycheck will be sitting in your checking account waiting for you when you get back. We were both self-employed so we had to not only pay for vacation but also still pay for the bills while we were gone. My daughter got sick at school yesterday. I took the afternoon off and took her home, and still got paid. Couldn't pay me enough money to go back to being self-employed and/or working at home.

Lastly, my professional life and personal life are totally seperate. At work, I'm not somebody's mother, wife, friend, sister, etc. They know me as me and only know anything else I wish to share. I leave home at the door when I leave in the morning and work at the door when I leave in the afternoon. I give credit to those who can do it, but after 13 years, I was ready to get out. Maybe after 13 years of my office job, I'll be ready to go back. Guess I'll find out.

Seems like a lot of the "classics" are going lately, doesn't it? Sad. Will miss him.
nm
I had to miss it last night..Please fill me in?

I know who got voted off last night, but the radio station I listen to while driving to work was talking about how "drunk" Paula was last night and how she was making really off-the-wall comments.  Boy, sounds like I really missed something!  Did any of you feel like she was on something or drinking too much?

I miss Howdy Doody ;-(
