An upgrade to Professional is not a "dual-boot" situation like I was describing for, say, XP and Vista, which are unalike in many ways.

The Professional version of XP is really just an enhancement of the Home Edition (although a very significant one), so you would upgrade to Pro and would "lose" the Home version. There would be no advantage whatsoever that I can think of to dual-boot between the Home and Pro versions of XP.
