He calls me daily whining that he doesn't have any money. Then calls me names when I
a check.  He hasn't looked for a job, hasn't even read the want ads, I'm sure.  He told me he realizes he can't live without me.  My paycheck is what he can't live without!  I feel so humiliated and angry sometimes that I put up with him for as long as I did!
When the company asked me to start making long distance phone calls,
they offered to pay my long distance for the charges. I then got a cheap long distance plan to make the charges for them more reasonable.

You need to JUST SAY NO to making long distance calls for them. If they will pay for it then do it, otherwise no way.
random calls/drop ins
People just do not understand. I have just had to be rude without apology. I have had so many people call and even though I don't answer still drop by. I have to say that if I am too busy to answer phone then I am also too busy to go to the door. I have had them stand on the door step ringing the bell and calling my phone. More than once I have answered the phone to someone saying they were at my door. I say, "Oh, is that you ringing my bell? Sorry but I am working". They do not like it but neither do appreciate the disrespect. My friends have just learned to laugh it off. I stick to my guns, even with my family No work, no pay, is what I say.
Many phone call interruptions ...
these days, but I had one ESL today who was dictating fine, but when he was talking on the phone I couldn't understand him at all. I just wish I knew a keyboard command to speed him up and then slow him down again when he comes back to dictate. Oh, and when he came back from his phone call he knew exactly where he'd been with no pause. How'd he do that? :oD
harrasing phone calls

my local phone company as most do, has a harrasement dept.  you set it up that each and every time you get a call, you hit a certain numbe of keys and it "logs" the calls.  After 5 such calls, you then report it to the police dept, they get the records and can go after the creeps!  You never know the number, but the police will let you know who the offenders are.  My sis had to use it because of an ex boyfriend of my nieces...his mother lost ALL phone service for a year!

wish you had it, it worked great to stop the 2am calls.

I remember 5 cent pay phone calls. nm
:+
Yup, and hate regular phone calls like that, too. Grrr....nm
,
Certainly, I applied to that ad, and received 2 phone calls back.
I had no knowledge of them either. So, I asked if they are US based and what their plan entails. He told me they have a base in the Philippines and plan to send all of the transcription overseas. If I had a problem with that to tell him now. Of course, as candid as I am, I told I absolutely have a HUGE problem with that. I also told him that I am not the candidate for him!

What led me to believe it was an overseas operation was that I put that phone number in reverse look up and an Indian name came up, not the "American Name" that was listed. So, that was a huge red flag. I outright asked him what is his "real name".
I'd setup IM or similar instead of making phone calls. It
seems like the company is very disorganized.  I personally would not make any phone calls that I am not reimbursed for.
If you have a cell phone, why not use that for your LD calls and CX the LD on the land line?
.
I transfer my calls to cell phone during work. nm
nm
No, they're talking about Internet phone calls, not FTP transfers.
The physicians aren't actually calling you over the Internet to dictate. You're downloading sound files and uploading documents.
I definitely feel like we are dealing with the same person! I think I need to make some phone calls
and put a stop to her!  I cannot stand the idea that she is out there still scamming people like she scammed me!
Happens all the time. Make phone calls for more definite action. nm
s
What is the longest you have gone without service? Do they return phone calls promptly?
TIA
I agree. The silly phone calls just make the worries worse, if

I only know one company who calls it ASR, and that is Webmedx

Not everyone comes to this board daily!
Are we not allowed to ask questions if they've been asked before? I understand this is the main board but people complain on the company board too if you ask about a company already posted about. Maybe those people can just skip over the posts and keep going, onto another message board preferably! Sheesh.
my company pays downtime for conf calls...

MT Daily has a private board for MTSOs

I know a lot of us now come here since MTD decided to institute fees, but that board is so valuable that it makes it worth it--only if other transcription company owners keep it active. It's definitely not what it used to be but those who have stuck with it sure have great camaraderie and help one another with issues just like this one you are facing.

I've changed them between an old phone and new phone, but the same company, i.e. Nextel.

If you are working for a company that totals your daily sm
lines for you then I wouldn't worry about keep track of it on word. The characters must be basing it on something else - like no spaces, spaces, 65 characters, no characters...that kind of thing.

I would just look on your company statistic board and keep track of it that way. That way it is not as confusing.
That's because NE has the 2 biggest complainers on this board daily! MQNE and MQMT!
nm
And its gonna kill you to post on the Company board rather than the main board?
x
This post should be made on the Company board. See that board. Thread locked.

You put them on the company board, not the main board. They are still there.

My DSL is through my phone company
as well. Unfortunately, you do have to have phone service in order to have DSL. I just have local, no LD. I use Vonage for my ULD for work and if I have to make a LD call I use that line or my cell phone. I'm still paying out the yang in telephone bills, but I gots to work! :)
Phone company problems.

When I moved to Washington State and Qwest became my phone company I signed up for the unlimited small business plan.  Now all the sudden they say they have switched me to Qwest Choice Business because of the high volume of my LD calls.  I explained to them in the beginning what I used the business line for and they said it was unlimited (around 85.00 a month is what it was coming out to), without notifying me they switched me over and sent me a bill for over $400.00.  I went balistic on them.  They said they would look into it since I have signed up for a different plan and take care of it.  I just got my new bill and it is even higher.

Anyone in the Northwest that can direct me to a phone service for my transcribing needs??????

It should be supplied by the phone company.
You are correct in your understanding.

You will need multiple phone numbers in succession under a business line. This is a phone company issue not a computer issue.

It is very simple.

Did you call and talk to service to set this up or just the help person who answers the phone?

You need to determine how many lines you need for this server. Is is an 8 port server, if so, you will need 8 lines and phone numbers, so when one is busy, it will go to the next one. It does get pretty expensive.

When you call the phone company, you need to be specific about how many lines you need and what you want.

Good luck with that.
try with your local phone company!!!....sm
I found over 12 years that the BEST prices usually come from your local telephone provider.  Check them out first would be my suggestion :)
I only worked for one company that used a c-phone sm
and we signed off on each job as we listened and transcribed.  If you signed off, it meant the job was completed.  They would not have allowed us to sign off on jobs if recording them.
You might check with your phone company......... sm
I live out in the sticks, so cable is not an option for me and I use DSL. My phone company offers a package that includes phone service, DSL and DishTV for a single price. I'm not sure what the price is, but I would think it would be comparable to or maybe even less than the $101 you are paying now.

I know what you mean about having to trim the fat. I've trimmed so far now that I don't know where I can cut any more. I don't have a cell phone. Sons have prepaid cell phones that they pay for themselves. I don't eat out more than once a month and haven't seen the inside of a movie theater in years (no real big loss for me). I skimp like crazy on groceries but that is really hard with 2 teenage boys in the house.

Anyway, I digress. Check out your phone company and see what kind of package they might offer. Ya nevah know!
Check with your local phone company....sm

More and more phone companies are offering fast access DSL which works through your phone line.  Satellite is very expensive and often has problems when there are storms.  I had cable which also goes down practically every time it rains.  I just got Bell South Xtreme DSL.  I can't believe how fast it is.  AND I got a wireless network router so if I have 1 computer or 20... no extra charge.  All this for about $50.00 a month.

I tried DSL through my local phone company. The lowest

fee was $24.95/mo and wasn't much faster than dial-up.  Lots of companies advertise DSL but they may not have service in your area.    The commercials that show fast speeds (up to 5 times faster) for $9.95 is dial-up and it only works with internet site downloads, does not make FTP/voice/music/picture downloads/uploads any faster.

I would check out any company thoroughly to be sure they are legit, check out their claims, fees, technical support, etc.

Company requires a C-phone. Will a Lanier Lx-219 work as well? sm

What is the difference in a Dictaphone, C-phone, Lanier LX-219 and Lanier Expresswriter or Voicewriter?

Thanks!

Unlimited Long Distance + C-phone, small company needs MT

I currently need an experienced MT (at least three years - actual medical typing) to cover a 2 doctor account.  Very simple dictation - SOAP note format.  This account is looking for another doctor, so that could add in.  Currently, very small amount of dictation - approximately 800-1300 lines total per week.  24 hour turn around.

If you have a c-phone and have unlimited long distance, please send me your resume + 2 references for people you have actually typed for.  Start rate 8cpl (65 character).  This is an IC position.

I am the owner of a small transcription company in Virginia - have had stable accounts and great MT's for over 13 years.  THANK YOU!!!

Our cable company doesn't offer phone service yet, and anyway,
I don't know if I'd want everything dependent on their service for all my needs. Even my internet is not as dependable as it should be, yet there is nothing wrong according to them. I already pay for internet and TV to the tune of $147 a month and they are raising it in Jan. again.

I am going to remove the LD from my home phone, and use the business line for all calls, then I will only have to pay about 35 above what I'm paying now. Not ideal, but the best deal I could find.
I could switch to DSL but the phone company charges 50 extra a month for being on line for more than
So either way I will have to pay more.  I guess no one else here is affected or concerned by this but the article said that other companies would follow suit if Time Warner has success.  The article said it would affect the teleworkers who are on line for long periods, not the people who just use cable for reading their email.
interruptions
Wow..I could have written that!  Had exactly the same problems.  I first got caller ID so I wouldn't answer the phone unnecessarily, then got noise blocking head phones.  I had always worked with stethoscope type, but thrilled with the head phones.  They really cut down on noise distractions.  It may take more for you. If so, I would think it would be worth moving to another room.  I also made it very clear to friends and family that I couldn't talk on the phone.  Some friends still called, but I just didn't answer (thanks to the caller ID) and let the recorder take it.  They eventually got the message.  Hope this helps.  I know it's tough.
interruptions
I get the same thing. I thought I was the only one. My parents are the worst. My mom will call knowing I am working and when you say you are working she just keeps on talking. I just am going to have to quit answering. My dad will call sometimes too. And I get so fustrated. My friend does not answer the phone at all while she is working no matter who it is unless it is her husband or something. I believe I am going to have a new rule. If it isn't the school or my husband then I don't answer.
interruptions in your day

Hi all!  I have been at this now for about 9-1/2 years and now that I have gotten serious  about trying to work it like a normal job, it seems EVERYTHING gets in the way!!! arrgh.

I work for two companies, one with assigned doctors (not much work) and one with pool work.  I am struggling to consistently work enough hours doing the pool work.  The money is good and the lines are decent, but it seems I have a hard time committing to it.

With the assigned doctors, they have XX patients, and I know I do those patients and I am done.  I can't seem to finish out my time with the pool work.  It is just stupid.

Anyway, after giving it a bit of thought this weekend, I decided to work my schedule like this.  I will say because I have done assigned docs for so long, I am geared towards having a schedule of XX patients to work through and I don't have that with the pool work.

6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

6-10 pool work, 10-12 assigned doc, 12-4 pool work.

The issue I am having is my phone is ringing or there are issues with the kids, etc.  So already this morning, basically 4 hours today have been shot due to phone/kids (HUGE ordeal this morning - I still have two kids at home, 16 and 17 - the joy of parenthood hehe).

I just feel like I can't get anywhere.  Currently I am doing the assigned doc and of course no one is calling, no drama, etc., so I will go right through his work with no problems.

How do those of you who do pool work schedule yourselves?  I think if I could ever get myself on a schedule with the pool work, which there is plenty of, I would drop the assigned doctor.  My thinking is December 31

Maybe my brain is just stuck on checking off patients on a list instead of playing "beat the clock" doing the pool work

HELP!!!!!

My first job was a total cold call to small local company...got hired over the phone- sm
give it a shot. Look in your yellow pages or on-line white and yellow pages and see what you can come up with. MT Daily has a list by state of MT companies to with their contact info. Also test your butt off anywhere and everywhere on line, you will learn a lot during the process. I found it quite enlightening when I was doing it 3+ years ago. Good luck.
Normal interruptions?
I have that much in about 2 hours because I am not tending house, watching after a 4 year old, cooking dinner, washing, have the phone on answer so I don't have problems with "normal" interruptions.
