I like the sand or light being idea someone mentioned.  How do you feel about stripes?  If the furniture is solid colors, and the carpet has not pattern in it, I think I would pain stripes (4 to 6 inches wide) of alternating sand and a blue a couple of shades darker than the carpet, with a tiny white or cream-colored stripe (1/4 to 1/2 inch) between each stripe.

Painting, painting, painting our rental house sm
Tenants want to move in asap. I'm a nice landlady. I said they could have a month's free rent and didn't have to pay a deposit if they came and helped. (My kid and his girlfriend) I'll paint, they can wash cabinets, woodwork, windows, doors and shampoo the rugs. Just 3 more rooms to go....

Have you considered striping the wall....a lighter color of your choice in the royal blue family, along with one of the new pearlized paints with a smaller stripe in between (three stripes in all) of your sofa color? Sounds like a lot of taping, but I think the effect would be stunning.

Another thing that matters is the composition of the pavement, concrete vs. blacktop for example.  Concrete is porous, and has a tendency to absorb paint into the pores rather than it just sitting on the surface.  Heh.  Relax, and think how much you would enjoy their little art project 20 years from now.  It will wear off eventually.

Wall painting faux finish techniques sm
Has anyone ever done their walls in a faux finish technique?  I have a rather large room inhabited by my husband and the 2 dogs in the evening while I work, a big screen t.v., a beige fireplace, beige and hunter green wood look vinyl tile on the floor and hunter green furniture. One wall is paneled in a pecan paneling as it couldn't be done any other way. This room was an add on to the house. Right now the walls are a gray color but am looking to paint it something different, something that might not show the splotches caused by the dogs shaking their wet fur on occasion and fingerprints around the switches.  I found the softly aged walls technique on the HGTV web site were you use 2 colors and a divided roller and divided pan. I kind of like the look and it looks fairly easy for me to do.  Anyone have any ideas?
How about interior wallpapering and painting? People charge big bucks for that. nm
