Pay

You make some very valid points, Trixi.  You couldn't run fast enough to get me to have my own accounts much less employ other MTs or work in management in any shape form or fashion.  Been there and done all of it.   Nope, I'm more than happy to just be a lowly MT.  Most MTs who haven't been there can't begin to understand the MTSO's headaches.  People seem to think they just kick back and rake in the bucks.  I've never known a small MTSO to be wealthy, make a decent living...yes...wealthy..no.  As our pay goes down so does the profit margin for the MTSO and we have the offshoring, VR and the BIG nationals to thank for all of that.  Seems these MT schools are graduating students at the speed of light and they're THANKFUL just to get a job.  I never thought I would see the day when there would be over 500 people look at a job ad!  The newbees come and go and as soon as they "go" there seems to be 15 more ready to take their place; so IMHO the pay for MTs and the profit margin for the small, decent MTSOs is going to continue a race to the bottom.

As for the rate of pay....I don't pay much attention to line rates alone.  There are many, many variables.  As for myself, with experience....well, lets just say it goes back to the days BEFORE  white out and correction paper, when you used an eraser to correct 7 carbon copies and before the IBM selectric... I make 8.5 cpl.  I am a happy camper.  I make as much as I want to make and I don't kill myself doing it.  There is consistent work.  The line count is accurate and fair, tech support is great, the company management is fantastic, pay is always direct deposited on time and for the correct amount.  Did I mention that they even let their MTs know they are appreciated on a regular basis and in various unique ways?  I wouldn't leave my company for twice the pay.  But to each his/her own I guess.
