People get killed EVERYDAY by making bad decisions. If you go to work

driving while you are intoxicated or sleepy you are more likely to get in an accident. Do you deserve it? I dunno. Maybe people should just use their brains and they would not become victims or killed. Your logic is flawed and you are comparing apples to oranges. How about this? If you wear skimpy clothes and get drunk and hang out with drunk people instead of dressing a little more modestly and keeping your mind sober, who is more likely to be raped? It is logical that consequences of your behavior will decide your fate.

to do medical transcription at home as if they may do something AWFUL with the info they receive. So if you want an invasion of privacy let's REALLY invade it and make sure fat chicks don't transcribe because they are so busy eating they can't get the work done, they mess up the keyboard with food and if they are provided health insurance they will raise the rates for the company sky high because their health risks are higher than others. Then there are the psychological issues overweight people bring to the table. After we eliminate fat people, we can go on to eliminate diabetic people who may have low blood sugar while typing and go into a spell and type the wrong thing. I could go on and on through the process of elimination. How about prescribed medications that may cloud your thinking? So you take Ambien to sleep but you have an Ambien groggy hangover when you are transcribing? Should they transcribe. How about your teens are on your last nerves and you take a Xanax? Should you be allowed to transcribe?

Everyday thing for me. I work till sleepy, then set my SM

phone not my clock to ring. I get about 5 hours every night, have for years.

some people benefit from making a list, all the plusses and minuses, and

My people skills are just fine. I just want to hire people who want to work.
I've not been ugly, I've asked questions, legitimate ones.  Please tell me what is wrong with that.  This site is not just for MTs, it is for QA Editors, Supervisors, Service Owners, there's even sections for Billers, Coders, and Nurses.

Is anyone making you work sm
on your days off? Are you an IC or employee trying to make up work.

If you have the choice, don't work on your days off. Some people have to work because their budget demands it.

To me its a simple thing, either you can afford not to make up the work for your paycheck or you can't. If you can't you will make it up any time you can and if you can afford to go without you will.

Problem with an MTSO is, when push comes to shove its the people who are willing to be flexible that are going to be asked to work or offered new accounts and not the ones who are not flexible. That is just the truth of the business. Put yourself in the MTSO place. If you had a new account or work, who would you ask to do this first? The employee who is willing to work whenever and be flexible or the one who is absolutely not going to be flexible or work any days off? Thats a pretty obvious answer.

I have found also that when a person is flexible, the employee is usually very flexible when the employee needs time off also!
So nobody's making you work there. I don't have that problem because SM

I work where that doesn't happen. So can you.

Now if they give you certain benefits that you don't want to give up, then you can decide to pay the price with your line count. But the bottom line is, it's nobody's choice but yours.

That was the point I was making to myself too, just work more (sm)

and pay for a house cleaner.  That way, I don't have to do it, it is nicer than what I do anyway , and I don't have to fight with hubbie how unfair it is "I" end up doing it.  Sounds like a win-win.

So about $60 bucks a week or every other week?  That's about the price I've seen.  However, I'm thinking that I may want to go with a bigger company anyway.  I certainly don't want to lose any valuables.

Hmm. I'm making 0.095/hr., but the work is tough
That's because the daily minimum # of lines required to maintain employment takes not 8 hours to complete, but more like 12-13 hours per day, 6 1/2 days per week.
    making work more pleasant
I've got a small TV in my office that I keep the volume on low while I'm working. Not only do I have low noise in the background, when I feel especially isolated, I can see someone and not feel quite so bad.
    Decisions, decisions, decisions
Hi. I work at a large national company and have a certain quota I must reach each pay period. If that quota is met, then I am reimbursed for my phone line, or actually in my case, DSL service. However, I have seen companies looking to hire and it is emphasized that DSL or phone lines are the responsibility of the Transcriptionist working at home. With that being said, I don't think there is a "right" or "wrong" way to go about this. For obvious reasons, the transcriptionist will be delighed to have you pay for it though:)
    decisions decisions
I understand your fear.  You would be leaving a very secure position and heading somewhat into the "unknown" of working at home, but overall in my opinion, I'd take the home job. Your office sounds lovely!  However, I feel that way because I have chosen to work at home to be with my 3 kids and have never regretted my decision.  I wouldn't have missed a minute, even on the days when I had little or no work, the system was down, etc.  Just my personal choice I guess.  I think you have to decide which is more important to you - being with your family, or a very secure job.  Just follow your "gut" on this one.
    decisions, decisions

These are hard decisions, aren't they?  Take a few minutes (or a few hours if necessary) and do the math.  Get the numbers in front of you on paper.  Exactly how much more money is it?  Is that the bottom line?  What is really most important to you?  This can be a very high stress job.  If you make less, but enough, and the stress is a lot less, that is valuable in itself.

Hey how do you get any work done ROFL and LOL and LOL making QA grade
and all the busy little things you need to do? I think you are management and what happens on many jobs is managements fault. And many management decisions are REVERSED by protesting and that is what I am doing. You must have heard about unions haven't you? They exist to change situations for employees and create a fair playing field. You can go along with the plan or try to do something. I will try to do something. In the meantime, pick yourself up off the floor roley poley MT. I don't like the visual.

Any tricks on making work more pleasant??

    Hey guys:

Does anyone have any ideas or tricks to make work more pleasant??  Been doing this a long (too long) time, and the isolation is getting to me.  Any ideas?

    Decisions and Consequences

We each made our own decisions to get us into our current situation - in every aspect of our life...married, single, living together, divorced.  Only those who have lost their loved one had no hand in that particular situation.  We each made our own decisions to get us into our current job.  We each make our own decisions to stay in our jobs or move.  We each make our own decisions how to spend our money, how much to make (yes, you can make more with more work or better paying jobs, etc.), how much to save or not.  We each decide what kind of personality we want to have, how we want to treat others and sometimes we even learn how we want others to treat us.  We know exactly what we are doing when we make decisions on actions ... Let's stop knocking each other's decisions.

Consequences - We each DID in fact choose our consequences by our actions or lack of .. but sometimes we did not know exactly the consequences we would get, for whatever reason.  Let's be compassionate toward each others consequences.

Every single one of us makes mistakes -- have, do, and will.  Let's be supportive and compassionate and tolerant -- doesn't mean we have to jump for joy or be falsly nice, but be compassionate and show tolerance for opinions and situations that we are not familiar with (and sometimes that we, in fact, ARE familiar with).

There's too much stress in this world for us to be in such a hyperexcitable state, ready to jump to conclusions, willing to inflict insults and wound others.

I, for one, will certainly start by apologizing for anything on these boards that I have personally written that personally insulted anyone.  It was never my intention to do that.

Let's be a more refreshing, energizing place to visit instead of what we have been over the last few days and/or posts!!?!?!??!!?!

Well, everyone has to make their own decisions.
I know I could not live with myself if I put a stranger's needs before the welfare of my family. It's right to help the unfortunate in whatever way you can, but there are other ways than inviting possible tragedy into your own home.
Well, all decisions should be so simple! SM
The very best of wishes to you. It can work great--The key to making it work great is organization and self discipline. I presume like almost all of us you'll be paid on a production basis instead of the salary you were used to?

You may find it works best to split your workday into blocks, with the assistance of your husband, of course. An hour before the babies wake (if there IS one!), 3 hours while a babysitter watches them, 2 hours at night. That sort of thing.

Interruptions absolutely kill production and turn workdays from 6 hours of intensive work into those 12-hour marathons people complain about.

Let us know how it's going for you.
I've done all work types also and always find myself making more
doing radiology than any other work type.

I think it's mainly because it's more repetitive than the other work types.

With your three years experience, you should do fine jumping back into it.

    Good luck.
Judges who can't make decisions to (sm)
save their rears really bug me. The judge (a female) assigned to my divorce and subsequent custody battles, etc., could not ever make a firm decision....continuations, etc. What a joke. I'm right there with ya. And people, for the record, lie out the wazoo in court.
    results/decisions/outcome
Okay so my curiosity gets the best of me and when everyone receives our opinions whether good, bad or indifferent I would sometimes like to know what you decided and what the outcome is -- i.e. rural hospital -- let us know what you decidied and if you take it a month or so later how it goes -- but that is me, I always like to know the outcome.   Patti
I know what you mean! Everyday's like the first for us.

    I have those days everyday
and have 10 years in as an MT. It seems the dictation has gotten sloppier. It is a DISASTER waiting to happen. I really do not think MTs should be paid by line given we have to struggle through so much, look up almost everything that takes time away from from our productivity.

A union should be formed for MTs, hourly rates ranging from (12.50/hr -30.00/hr depending on experience and time in. These big MT companies would then not be able to rape the MTs of their earnings.

Huh? I have used it everyday for at least two years and never had to buy a thing. nm

    Autocorrect list of everyday
I am looking for a list of everyday short phrases that we type alot because I know I am missing some.  Is there a website that has a list?  Also, is there a way to compile a list from the reports we type to show which phrases and words are used the most?  Isn't there software that does this?  Thanks a lot
I used to do that until it killed me almost! I now do QA.
I did it many years though and with 99% accuracy. You go girlfriend and do it while you can. :)
Tried it, nearly killed me. Unless you want to be

tied to your desk 24/7, not see your family and then if you do you're too tired and cranky to enjoy each other, have no other life, don't mind a messy house, etc. I wouldn't do it.

You just cannot be productive working this much and especially if all 3 formats are different, plus you'll have to learn new docs, etc., so you will actually be working more hours and making less money, not to mention the stress.   You might could do it for a couple of weeks until you could get a feel for what jobs you like best, but any more than that and it is just too much.

I felt bad today, but you must feel like this everyday
You need some serious help, who is this mean and nasty person, BTK or charles manson!

I tried it last week and it almost killed me
I tried a 5:30 to 9:30 for one company, noon to 4 for another - and squeezing the other work in between those two times - and I was stressed to the max.  If the companies can give you work 24/7 and you can work your own schedule - and it can vary - I think you could do - I just had down time and unpredictable times when doctors would submit work - and no could do!!
i count blind everyday-it totally sucks!
i work for a local hospital and we have 2 systems, one system can view their lines in realtime and the other side of the department doesn't have any idea what our lines are. we have to wait til the following week for the report to be ran. you can always tell if you made the manager or lead mad that week because your lines will be really low. if you dare to question them then you have to face the rath! they screw with our lines on a daily, sometimes hourly basis. there are a few people that watch their lines by report and catch them doing it and have to fight, and i do mean fight, to get it corrected.
    pit bulls killed Maltese
I am so sorry about your puppy.  I saw a pit bull attack a German shepherd in our off-leash park.  The owner showed up right after the police -- I and the shepherd's owner were screaming, "Call 911" -- and he gave a fake name and address.  He had another loose pit bull, too.  Then another of my dog-walking acquaintances said she saw a pit bull kill a dog in that same park and the owner then proceeded to kill the pit bull by bludgeoning him/her.  I read that one of every two dogs killed at our animal shelter is a pit.  I have a neighbor who drove 1000-1500 miles, to a breeder's place in California, to get a pit bull to protect his wife, that the breeder claimed was completely gentle, just looked scary.
second job killed me on taxes, so I found a job
that was just money in my pockets without having to claim it - an extra $600/week. Did it until I burned out, which wasn't long - 8 weeks. But it definitely helped!!!!
I would go with vinyl. We have tile now and I think it killed my dog. -sm
She slipped and fell on it when she slopped her water. I almost did too. She could hardly move. I think she might have broken some ribs. At the least they had to be bruised. It was actually my husband's cousin's dog so he took her to the vet and they put her to sleep on me. The vet said she was in severe pain. She was my little buddy. I never had an animal that loved me so much. (And I've always been a cat person.)

Tile is very slippery, hard, and cold too. I found the vinyl a lot easier to clean. Our tile is a mess. It cracked, the grout is dirty even though it was sealed. It's mostly because of the dogs that it's so yucked up. I can't stand going over by the front wall. It's soooo cold there, but I'm really intolerant to cold.

Our vinyl lasted a lot longer and was more comfortable than the tile. Not to mention, we had to cut all the doors besides.
Pit bull dogs killed my lab
About 2 a.m. my husband let our two dogs outside to do their business. Our dogs have squeezed out under a spot under the fence before ane we have put big rocks, a pedestal, etc. in the hole and barricaded the gates, etc. My lab, Shadow, is 1.5 years old and 75 pounds. My mixed dog, Flash, is also around 60 pounds. They apparently got out and got separated. Flash found his way back to the front door and my husband woke me up and said Shadow was missing. We proceed to go through the neighborhood for two hours looking for Shadow. Eventually, we go out the back gate (it is very overgrown and wooded) and two pit bulls come up through the woods and attack Flash. My husband and I are throwing rocks everything we can get ahold of and my husband manages to get the dogs off of Flash.

Long horrific story short, Shadow was killed by these monsters and was found by my husband and a police officer in the woods not far from our back gate. Flash survived. These could have been someone's children. Animal control had been called three times this week on those dogs. We called the police and animal control and the dogs are to be picked up today. We live in the middle of a city and our dogs spend 90% of their time inside. These were our "children", as we do not have any children.

I just wanted to let you know about these types of "pets". Google "labrador" and Google "pit bull" and tell me which one you think is a better choice. These people breed these monsters and teach them to attack. It is a wonder that my husband or myself did not get attacked in the process. Please do not let your children around these animals. It is not safe.

ever killed a fly or a mosquito? they live and

If only air conditioning killed fleas!! No way!!
I rescued 2 kittens about 6 months ago, and they blessed my house with love and fleas!! I wasted 6 months using Frontline on kitties and dogs - forget it! Infestation crisis! I finally had the sense to switch to Advantage and its a miracle. Much less expensive than Frontline, and way more bang for your buck!! After the initial application of Advantage on 2 cats and 3 dogs, just had to reapply after 2 weeks, and now we are on top of things. No more fleas, though I will continue to use for months more. I hate using this toxic stuff, but my dogs are flea allergic. Nearly killed them. I would give Advantage a shot once just to make sure you didn't miss any fleas. And we keep our house frigid - doesn't bother them one bit. In fact, I picture them laying around in floor cracks and furniture, on little flea lounge chairs with pina coladas!!
