Do you know phentermine causes pulmonary hypertension! Don't take that. I know, I took it when

I have never taken fenfluramine only phentermine and I have pulmonary hypertension from it - my fact
x
I took Prozac and phentermine
I took the combination a long time ago, probably close to 8 years ago after being on a couple of other weight inducing hormone drugs to help with endometriosis.  It did not work for me, but the way it was explained to me was that this was the "new" combination since Phen/Fen was taken off the market.  Phentermine can cause hypertension, as it is an amphetamine.  The Phen/Fen, from what I understand, the "Fen" caused heart valve problems, which caused it to be pulled from the market.  I never personally took the Phen/Fen, but have taken Phentermine off and on for years.
Thanks for your responses. BTW, I do have both hypertension
and diabetes, but both are very well controlled with medications at this time. I was diagnosed a year or so ago.

I just thought my finger tingling was from possible carpal tunnel. Could this be a more serious problem? I recently had a Doppler ultrasound of my carotids (just as a safety measure) which came back normal.

I know, ask my doctor. I will be going in for medication refills next month and will discuss my new symptoms with him then.

Thanks again!!
Hypertension can also cause a nighttime
or morning headache. Keep a check on it.
phentermine
Do you have high blood pressure or anything?
phentermine
Yes, they say phentermine only works for about six weeks.  Thanks for your input!
I've tried phentermine a couple
different times.  the first time I did great and lost 15 lbs. I've kept the weight off even without the pills but the second time I tried it I didn't loose anything.   I've started it again hoping to shed the last 10 lbs and I feel like it's making me really moody.  I was hoping that it'd give me energy and it hasn't...this sedentary job just makes me sleepy!
Prozac, anyone?

My doctor started me on fluoxetine 10 mg a day x2 weeks, then increase to 20 mg daily.   (For insomnia and mild depression due to menopause.)

Just wondering if anyone has been on this drug, if it worked and how long before you saw results?   I know drugs vary greatly from person to person, but I just want to know what people's experience has been.  I take very drugs, but my sleep pattern has been horrible and I am willing to try anything.  TIA

Pulmonary. sm
I know a little about pulmonary.  I think you should acquaint yourself with blood gas values and ventilatory settings, it is all fascinating after that.  Feel free to E me if you need help.
I have a pulmonary doc who
has the most terrible cough I have ever heard. It's chronic, cause he's had it since I started typing him however long ago. Everytime he coughs the speech recognition computer puts "referring physician". So I have to go and edit out all his coughs from the report. Kinda makes you wonder why he doesn't treat his own cough.
Prozac has really worked for me..
I take 10 mg q.d. because I was getting nuts around my period.  I take before bed and have been very happy with it.  I have never taken any other medication before and I was really wary of it, but I do not plan on stopping it.  I also have lost quite a bit of weight on it as well.  It has really worked for me.
I tried Prozac for the same exact
thing. Can't remember what its called, but when the OB/GYN gives it out, its in a pretty floral package...different package, same drug. I LOVED it. It worked nearly immediately to lighten my mood and improved my sleep. About 4 days into it, I developed complete urinary retention, which turns out to be a very common side effect. I was crushed...Now I alternate and take Lunesta every other night or so to sleep. Very mild and works great! Love that butterfly! Good luck to you!
I think it would be like the Prozac scare...
People susceptible are going be the ones who are in danger from it.

One of my BFFs from elementary school, who lost her 40-yo husband to lung cancer 2 years ago and yet was still unable to quit swears by Chantix. It finally got her off the cigs about 9 months ago for good.
about pulmonary embolism

Can a person be walking around with a PE and not know it?  Would they be able to cough it up?  I know that sounds strange, but I have a rattling in my chest that I can't expectorate.  Sorry to be so graphic.

Thank you, anyone, for answering.

Thanks! I have the cardiology/pulmonary sm
book and that covers everything mostly I need but sometimes its easier to just get it off the internet.

Pulmonary embolism and work...

Just recently got out of the hospital with PE but need to go back to work right away.  On the usual meds that come with this condition and feeling lightheaded.  Anyone here been through same thing and how soon did you return to work as an MT?  I would prefer you e-mail me privately.  If this is too personal for you.  I understand.  I tend to be more candid than most.  Also would prefer to talk to someone who has been through it.

Thank you so much.

A drink versus Prozac

Don't worry about it.  A drink (in moderation) every now and then, in my opinion, is better than being hooked on Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, etc.   I know several women who do not drink, never drank but can not do without their "happy pill".  I have a glass of wine or beer after a hard day while cooking dinner which probably happens less than once a month.

Exercise, cutting down on sugar, and Prozac helps me. nm

Prozac was great! Took for depression for 10 yrs! Saved my life. nm

use at your own risk LOL
My company's samples come with warning labels on them, that they may contain mistakes. They're just guides, they can be very helpful at times.
They're all at risk...
It's called hacking.  It can be done to any computer regardless of which country that computer sits in.
It is more of a risk overseas. SM
If some company operating from an offshore country with a "store front" in the U.S., decides to retaliate against Dr. John Doe, and spreads 50 of his patient's medical records over the internet, how easy do you think it would be to track down the so-called contact (whose name cannot even be pronounced) for the transcription company who is nowhere to be found? HIPAA has now power to fine, penalize, or imprison any overseas operation because the HIPAA laws only apply here in the United States. IMO, there is a substantial safety risk in having medical records leave the country.
Normal xrays would have a very low risk
of causing infertility these days. Years ago, things might have been different. On the Gardasil issue, the doctor does not have a right to force this on anyone.
There is a risk, but if you have an idea how big the file should be
and you have good virus protection and adware/spyware software, then your risk is minimized.
It would be a lot of added risk to an already risky surgery. nm

Offshore or onshore - personal information is at risk sm
when it is in private homes. The only way to avoid this is would be to not allow companies to import the SSN in their ADT feeds to companies that do outsource work. It doesn't matter whether it is a domestic MT, or offshore MT, or any other person with access to that information - AMERICANS are dishonest as all get out too. The only information we MTs need is Name, DOB, and MR#. The only people needing SSN info are the billing department to communicate with the insurance companies, no one else in the hospital should have access to it. It's a joke to think offshoring MT is what is causing the problem, it's human nature, people are greedy and want more - MTs for some reason seem to feel they need to blame offshore for this but it's really a copout and just another reason to place blame.

Proud to be an American home-based MT who is HONEST!
Yes, I agree. The risk is too high. Will purchase the cat flea repellant.

just now when I entered the main board forum here on MTSTars.  I would like to know what that is all about!
Sexual predators vs witch hunters. watch children risk becoming predators....

I recently had an awakening about the witch hunt currently going on for one "convicted sexual predator."  Predator first offense:  18 y.o. dating 15 y.o. Dad of 15 y.o. angry and had 18 y.o. arrested.  My grandmother was 16 when she married my grandfather who was 19.  I guess he should have been arrested too.

Second offense:  21 y.o. made copy of nude on internet.  Copy found by off-duty policeman who reported find.  Predator arrested, mother's computer confiscated, 100 y.o. public defender appointed.  Predator had to prove person posing for picture was over 18.  How could anyone do that if they do not even know name of person appearing in picture.  Predator convicted and on probation.  Cannot be anywhere with any children.  No Christmas get togethers with family, no church, must leave restaurant or other public place if children come in, MUST be registered and can be locked up if too close to daycare, school bus stop, etc. and must go ???somewhere if children present in Dr. waiting room etc.  Neighbors informed of sexual predator in midst and regularly egg car and persecute in other ways.  I wish they would round up every photographer and reader who ever looked at girl's breast in magazine and could not prove girl of age.  (National Geographic for instance.)  I find sexual predators abhorrent but think we have gone too far.  Am I the only one who sees the backlash from fear?

Stand up and what get fired. Lose benefits and lose my house. Can't risk it.
I wish I could. That is why this business is as bad as it is. We can't afford to not work, so we settle for whatever gets thrown at us.
A job worth doing is worth doing well ...
If you do not want to do your best, get another job.
But that is what I would do - worth the $.30
nm
what are your worth?

To do business at this rate, the hospital would have to be contracting the jobs themselve.  Most hospitals I am aware of, go through a service, which has overhead.  So to that 7 cents you have to add pay for management, building, utilites and all the other costs of doing business.  The services I work for charge anywhere from 11 to 13 cpl, so it really isn't any cheaper to go through a service or have your own accts from the hospital point of view.

And is it worth the $189?
It sounds quite interesting, but that's a lot of money to shell out for an expander. Do you find your production is a lot higher compared with regular word expanders?
For what it's worth...SM
I did say that in my opinion, drinking on the job, regardless of amount, was unprofessional and somewhat irresponsible. (I stated MY opinion of the SITUATION, not directed at anyone in particular.) I think most employers would agree with me on that one. You obviously do not. This topic has been discussed and removed several times now - if you don't like the "unpleasant" posts, why keep bringing it up? Do you need the validation from complete strangers?

Don't post the topic if you're not prepared to deal with multiple viewpoints. Simple as that.
Worth it?
YES! An ergonomic keyboard does take a couple of days to get used to, but I doubled my typing speed after those couple of days and do not get "tired" hands as quickly. I would strongly recommend getting one!:)
Yes, it is worth it! sm
We have VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance--should be on the web) and it's great. You can pay monthly or all at once. It doesn't help much with the little bumps and bruises, but our boxer had a major ACL repair done and it saved us tons of money. She's worth it!
for what its worth
your marital relationship is the most important relationship in your life- its who you chose - you din't choose your parents, siblings or kids- everyone deserves to be valued and respected in that most important relationship- if you are being repeatedly hurt by your spouse or you are hurting your spouse -after you are aware that behavior is causing pain, no matter what it is - then you are not valuing your relationship or being valued in that relationship... Either way, you need to do something about it- get counselling at the least
Not worth it!

In my opinion, it would be better to wait for something that pays a little more.  At 6 cpl you are going to work your butt off.  I mean, if you think about it that's what the people in India are getting paid, either 5.5 cpl or 6 cpl.  I think American MTs are worth more, much more, but that's just my opinion.  If your current job is not too, too bad where you can't wait it out, I would say look around and give it a little more time.  Gook luck!!

Is being an MT really worth it?
I've been doing it for about 10.5 years and have interacted with a number of fellow MTs. One thing I notice is that very few of the wonderful MTs I've known have been WITHOUT depression, anxiety, and/or panic disorders.

Is it possible that sitting in front of a CRT doing the same thing all day every day in complete physical isolation isn't healthy?

There are lots of reasons I want out of this business. There's one. Have a good day :)
worth it
You are right about being isolated. Right now I have my 3-year-old at home with me, but in a couple of years, it is going to be me and the cat until the kids come home. I'm not really worried about it though. I know a few moms and other MTs can call if I get lonely.

As for the depression and axiety, I had before coming into this profession. You just have to take every day as it comes and enjoy the sunshine when its there.
Very worth it
I bought mine of ebay about 7 years ago for around $700 new and love it. It is well worth the money as it will never wear out.
I tried it. It is only worth it if you -
want to read about how wonderful it is that they are now training and credentialling overseas MTs. That is the truth. If you don't believe me, you can waste your money on it.
Not worth it
I didn't quit smoking with Wellbutrin, but used the generic nicotine gum 4 mg then 2 mg, which tasted awful, but stopped the waves of rage from quitting smoking. Wellbutrin made me giddy for a few hours, then I crashed almost instantly and would become solemn and depressed, which made me want to smoke. Does anyone know why there is a drop off like that? Is that normal with these types of drugs? I don't take anything in the way of medications unless I am deathly ill.
Yes, well worth it (SM)
It was definitely worth the $15K, but after years of trying all the other fertility treatments and having them *fail* (total of all of those was probably $10 to 15K as well) it was just such a risk. I knew if it worked it would be worth every dime and then some, but if it failed it would only send me into a deeper depression. Not a good thing. Thank goodness for happy endings. Make that thank GOD!

I'm so glad to hear other success stories. No one knows the agony of infertility unless they have walked in our shoes :-(

Thanks for the post.
