No, but it's pretty obvious that the longer you leave it up,
the higher your chance is. That is why if you are not using it, you should shut it down.
Another management reply. Pretty obvious, huh?
    :/
Yeah, I was kind of thinking it is pretty obvious
what she meant by her post. I think the other poster just has some issues with this subject and was being a little sensitive.
    I'm miserable

My doc says I'm "legally" menopausal now.  The hot flashes are horrendous.  I can't take HRT because my mother, grandmother, aunt and first cousin all died of breast cancer.  Guess I'll just keep sitting outside in the 20 degree weather (until my neighbors who think I've gone insane call the psych squad on me).  What a difference a couple of years make -- I remember wearing sweats and covering up in an afghan to transcribe in the middle of summer because the A/C froze me!

    that would be miserable!
Good luck to you in keeping them from getting demolished!
    Yes - another thin one here - & it's miserable ! .
I have the usual, mid-priced, office chair from Office Depot with the thickest padding I could find within my price range. Felt okay for about a month then, like you, I had to sit on a pillow! My tailbone just felt like I was sitting on bare metal otherwise. Pillows are cheaper than chairs - so that, too, is what I do! I also added a lumbar support attached with Velcro, but normally when transcribing sit more foreword in my chair in order to reach my footpedal & don't get it's benefit (only when not working). I'm not only thin-I'm short in comparison to today's standards - I'm 5'1". What about you?
HAHAHAHA - miserable MT too, eh?..nm

miserable the last month or so?....nm

Between the miserable QA personnel and

physicians who misspell medications, I'm fed up.  Not only are we supposed to check the spelling of a medication, even if the physician spells it, but also, if he or she dicates a letter to a patient, we are supposed to confirmt the patient's address; street as well as zip code.  This is an absolute waste of my time, as the patient's addresses are not listed in any part of the demographics, but on the patient's CHART, from which the physician is looking at while dictating!   I get even more inflamed when I receive an email from QA that ALWAYS include an explanation mark (!) in the opening sentence.  I mean, who in the heck do these people think they are?   I find them rude, demeaning, not to mention totally unprofessional when they care corresponding.  Talk about forgetting one's roots, and how it was for them when they started.  The tone of their emails speaks volumes that they are miserable doing their job, but get their jollies off by writing to you like you were a little kid.  So if you love pulling rank and demeaning people all day, join the QA Department and be miserable like the rest ofl them.

ps I am NOW totally miserable
    Not "not"
    Not happy without being miserable?
I've been coming here for the past 2 years. I am a working MT who has paid my dues and been just as disappointed as all of you here from time to time. But the one thing I can't understand is why SO MANY of you can't seem to be happy if there isn't misery in your life.

Yes, you are warning newbies of the perils of this career. Yes, you are frustrated and want it to improve, want company and comfort...But there is so much toxic waste on this board. If you tell yourselves and each other how miserable it is in this field, you will all remain miserable.

Flame away and call me whatever names you want, but when you lay down tonight, you may just agree that wallowing in so much misery is not the way to live when life is so short. If you hate it, get out. If you aren't sure, don't take what every one says at face value. If you love it, share the love.

I have never seen so much misery in one place among so many people. It's contagious. Please do yourself and all of us a favor and try to find some happy thoughts. You might just find you enjoy yourself, and your career, a lot more.
My ex was wealthy and I was sooo miserable
without going into detail, I will say my health suffered from being with a man whom I sensed did not love me in a deep fashion. That fact cancelled out the 9,000 sq foot home (attached 4 car garage), 2400 cash allowance monthly, the need for me not to work, vacations to exotic places and luxury cruises twice each year, a walk in close the size of my present bedroom. But, you know, I was so lonely. At least with your husband, you will have a man who loves you when you are old. I left that life to nothing, zip, lost my place in MT world after 20 yrs and had to start all over, his attorneys royally screwed me and yes, I was so poor I was hungry, sold all those clothes at second hang consignment shops and begged someone to hire me (MQ at 0.06 cpl). I had dogs so had to buy a home which took every cent I had. Walked out with nothing in the end. I am happy but at 40, that scene is not one a person can go through without subsequent scars.

I am alone now. A fireplace is my company along with two cats. Seven years later, I am at peace finally but I really did let myself down by putting myself through the hell I lived trying to get my life back on track.

The secret to happiness is being thankful for what we have - I say that every day.
I'd say a combination of B and C. House may be miserable, but after
watching all House episodes, he does have a heart, albeit surrounded by iron, lock with no key.
Life is too short to be miserable
I am in this profession because I honestly love the work, and I love being an IC (setting my own work hours, being at home, etc.) I started out working for local doctors at home, then when that situation changed and I had to go to a company, I was blessed that I hit a good one first thing and have never had to experience a bad one. I am telling you all of this to hopefully encourage you. It is possible to be happy in this field, and there are good companies to work for. Life is too short to be stuck in a job where you are yelled at, bullied, and ready to throw in the towel. I hope you either start looking for a different MT job, or start pursuing another career - something that makes you happy.
Unless it is ongoing and to the point you are completely miserable!!

Agree with oncology. Miserable stuff! nm

I am not miserable, I love my job, all is well with me, but gross tacky humor is just that.
    z
I work for the person. I know. Very excellent person, personally and business-sense.
It is an INSULT to have QA hovering over seasoned MTs who know what they are doing. She trusts her MTs and again if there are questions there is one person, a trainer, who can answer them via phone, e-mail or instant message or you can send the whole report to them if you choose.
I think I'm pretty bright and pretty good, too, but
I am not a CMT. I am a medical transcriptionist who enjoys her job very much (most days). I have chosen not to pursue certification simply because I cannot afford to do so. I believe the certification is a nice thing to have, but I don't believe it is necessary for employment or for excellence in my job. If you can afford it, go for it. If you can't, don't feel too bad. You can still take pride in and do a very good job without it.
Point was is the person willing to make up for the slack of the person who types 1 job when there is

if that is all they WANT to type.   Is the person who wants to be a supervisor willing to make up for those people?

You have crap supervisors, editors and mts in the business like you have good ones.   Sadly, the really good ones of all of them are few and far between.

Might be obvious but who is SE?
    nm
maybe you need a man because of your obvious

That's obvious-we all used to be something

but we don't make posts with our former titles. Get over it..

its you and its very obvious

Well then its obvious that you don't have much
faith in your children nor your parenting skills if you have not taught them how to make decisions for themselves.
    It is obvious
they don't care. It is not only cardiac docs either.
    Thank you, Dr. Obvious...

    Doctor dictates:

"The patient takes Doxepin for insomnia.  He has been taking 25 mg four of them at time, but I am prescribing 100 mg tablets which is the same."

    This just made me giggle...

OK, now it's obvious to me...
could be wrong, but it seems that they are paying you ONLY after they get paid. That means you are at the mercy of the accounts payable department of the hospital... I never work for an MTSO when MY payment is tied to THEIR payment from their clients.
    This may be obvious, but...

I am pretty sure that she was referring to the manner in which her very unsupportive post was worded, i.e. "a REAL transcriptionist".  How in the world is that helping someone who is coming here for a little bit of help and, dare a person aspire for, a kind word...  anyway, just mho.

Let's take a moment to put ourselves in her shoes instead of trying to think of a way to boost our own ego.  Perhaps the place in which she worked had a different style, a different format.  I even have done some recent work for a hospital who wants all of their references to the spinal disks spelled disc (even though this is specifically a no-no with AAMT).  I'm not an expert, but if there were a helpful thing that I could think of to say, it would be to buy of borrow a current AAMT Book of Style (3rd Edition) and make sure that you are all up on your format and style.  Anyway, good luck!!

    It is so obvious

that some of these docs do not have the first idea what they are going to say when they dial in.  They have not bothered to organize their thoughts or mentally outline what they intend to dictate.  They just 'wing it,' go back and add, delete whole paragraphs, then maybe say virtually the same thing as the deleted section somewhere else.  I've learned never to delete but to cut sections just in case they get pasted back in someplace else.

One guy in particular says things like:  'Put temperature was 98.3 degrees and say BP was 130/70 and write respirations were 18 and could you say weight was 225 pounds, and like, he was sort-of short of breath?'

How  do you verbatim that?  Dude!  I'm not you pal and we're not having a conversation here.  Do you realize I'm supposed to be transcribing EVERY SINGLE WORD YOU SAY?

When you have a QA person that is picky and another QA person that is very lenient where does that
leave the MTs because some are getting a lenient reviewer and others are getting one that picks at everything. How do you reconcile that issue with the difference in QA mentality. Some people make out well and the other people could be just as good but dont. I wonder about that.
The person MTSO pays is the person who
    dsf
Do you have any clue what they are up to. It is obvious they are up to something.

I just hope everyone is calling Corporate.

sorry for your obvious hairball. nm
    x
It was such an obvious question
I am sorry but it was such an obvious question at least to me and kind of reminded me of a Jeff Foxworthy song/routine.  They mail their payments to you where your business headquarters or your AP/AR is located.   It is like your car insurance you drive in California but your insurance headquarters are located in Arizona so where do you mail your check???   Or the MT's that work in a different state, where do you send those checks?  It just struck me ironic that someone who was thinking of doing what you are venturing out to do would have such a basic question to ask.  Struck me as a little weird.  And yes I have been an MTSO for 18+ years now.   Good luck to you and I hope your accounts follow you with your move and you are able to pick up more accounts wherever you move.  You might be the next big national and then you can come back and really let us have it.   Again, good luck.   Patti
It is SOOOOO obvious who you are
And it was so obvious last night who you were as you were posting with different names about what you were "eating". Please.

I am NOT starting flames. I was trying to let the OP know that not everyone on this site is mean and nasty. This place has really become a hole in the wall since you started frequenting the joint. Makes me wonder why I waste my time.

    Obvious what 1 requirement is...
Obvioulsy one of the requirements of becoming an MT is rudeness and being quick to judge! I was just asking for suggestions and what being an MT entailed. In no way did I suggest that I had any idea about what MT requires of a person. Sheesh!
I know if someone posted on the engineering forums I am a part of I would be more than happy to give them suggestions on how to get started, different paths they could take, ect. Then again, I like to impart my experience so maybe I can help others learn from my mistakes so they don't have to make the same ones.

Obviously MTs work from home for a reason - seems that most of you don't work well with others!! Only 1 person actually took my post for what it was and told me their experience!! That's a real shame.
Obvious that law was written by men
Do they think that because we have breasts we can't drive correctly? OMG.

This is especially upsetting, seeing as most females who are getting permits are teenage years and breast cancer is not so common in that age range.

As an aside, a friend of mine had to go in for a mammogram a while back. Her insurance company refused to pay for it. Said it was not a necessary exam because she is "not old enough to need a mammogram". Her doc found a lump and wanted the test. Why is this not necessary?
I should think the answer would be obvious. They will take less money. nm

    dictator just stated the obvious

"ORAL tobaccoism" -- like what other kind is there !!

oh i suppose it could be cutaneous via patch, but sounded dumb...

It's obvious she didn't mean cases
that actually required ER attention. You are just stirring the pot.
It's quite obvious from your post that you have never suffered....sm
from depression and I take it from your moniker that you are a man, which explains a lot. Please refrain from commenting on things you obviously know NOTHING about.
Not obvious to me. Not all well-compensated MTs are in management.
They're just good at their job. Not hard to understand.
the overstating the obvious award goes to
gotta love residents - "the left lower extremity part of the physical exam could not be performed due to a left lower extremity amputation."
So true. Or an obvious misspelling does not
    x
This is such an assinine remark, obvious you

IMO, a thread is closed when it is obvious
that nothing new is added to the OP and it deteriorates into a 'troll', unjustified insults, foul language and just tit for tat, going in circles.

True, as the moderator pointed out, it is not moderated for 'niceness.' but the post has to be civil. One can make a stronger point with politeness than with disrespect.
obvious management post here as usual nm

You're math is correct. It is obvious
the new plan is designed to reward high producers. There's no away around that fact. If you currently do 1200 lines a day and you want to earn incentive on the new plan, you will have to either get faster for the same hours you work now or restructure your work days to be longer and get more production.

I think everyone has the idea that a new plan means that everyone is going to benefit and that everything is going to automatically be better and improved for all. Not true.

MQ has changed their pay and benefits plan to better increase their revenue. They were not making changes to harm nor help MTs, necessarily. These are business decisions. This is now what they are offering for pay and benefits and we can take it or leave it.

Personally, I believe they want fewer employees, all high producers, and it would be cheaper for MQ to have a smaller workforce of high-producing MTs and pay them overtime than an abundance of low to mid-range producers. This plan will help ensure some of that.

Regardless of what some of the mealy mouths say on this board about me, I am not happy with the way this plan impacts all MTs. Not at all. I'm just not going to be upset about it because every single one of us do have options and those who feel uneasy about this plan should heed their intuition and explore other options.

I think this is the beginning of a slow attrition among the MT workforce.

    This is strictly my opinion.
What is with all the obvious spam postings today?
