I think MTs must have higher IQs than general public? You feel like posting your IQ if you know it?
    Just a theory I have.
The thing is though my fine print with ATT said it could not be used for
autodialing, dialing into the internet, commercial faxing, and one other thing. I can't remember what the other thing was but it wasn't anything I was using it for. They even listed those four things over and over, and I told them I didn't use it for any of those things. They also tried to tell me I was transmitting data over my phone line. I wasn't. I was dialing into a voice line. I got tired of arguing with them too. How can argue w/them when they keep saying you're dialing into the internet when you know you're not? I guess they have to lie about something, right, because they can't tell you you're using too many minutes if it's UNLIMITED. I just think it stinks. Hopefully it will work out for all of us!
my only problem with that was when I read the fine-print...

the company I was going to apply for, out-sourced some company to do the checks, and if I were to sign for the check they were entitled to even go so far as to contact my landlord, family, etc., to get information on me.

Of course I was told it was just a formality and it would probably never happen, but if I signed that, this third company could do that, whenever they wanted, and for whatever reasons.

Personally, I would rather be in control of my personal information as much as I can...not that there really is 'privacy' anymore.

Even though I trusted that company I wanted to apply for, I certainly had no idea who this company was they hired to do the checks...

PS - I also did the bankrupt thing in the past, and I could not be sure this company would not turn around and sell my information to my former debtors...I mean, who knows.  I do not trust people, period.

Yeah, I read the fine print...sm
on the brochure AFTER I signed up with Bell South for unlimited long distance. It said something like it had to be voice to voice (I'm thinking not recorded voice). It's suppose to cost $20/month, but if I go over 5000 minutes, they will tack another $50.00 on my bill.

I was up front about why I wanted unlimited long distance when talking to Bell South's call center lady (from India), and she said it would be no problem. We'll see.
    Read the fine print. Residential
long distance services, unlimited, state that is for residential calls, etc. The business plans state they are for businesses. What the are not allowing is a business rate long distance plan to be connected to a residential phone. And, of course, there is always the fine print "other restrictions may apply."
There is alot of fine print to read
in order to receive the bonus.  Many MTs don't stay long enough because these companies are usually deceiving.  Think about it, if it were so easy to get $500, $1000, etc. everyone would be jumping at the chance.  Don't bother, it's a smoke screen
Be careful & check the fine print sm

There was a small note on the sidebar about it on my July 2008 bill and I didn't notice it until later ---

Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred and to deny, terminate, modify, or suspend service if usage exceeds 5GB per month in total or 300MB/month while off-network roaming. Check your subscriber agreement rights on Sprint.com.

I checked into Qwest, but the fine print says if you use more than 5000 min per month, it will .. sm
be reviewed.  Their business rate is per line, and comes out to $500 monthly.  That's the problem with my current company. I figure I'll be using at least 10,000 mins per month.  Can't get Verizon here.  Any other suggestions?  TIA.
Got cut off. Autodialing is what ATT calls it . In fine print vonage says no autodialing. nm

You can print a list in the print dialog box. sm
You'll find the option in the print what section. You can probably find a macro that lists them all in a document with a web search. Otherwise, you can only print them.

    viewing a WMA video file
Since I am working on Express Scribe, any E-mail I get with a video file, just goes straight to audio ... duh, I know there is an answer, but I am very IT challenged and was wondering if there was an easy fix to this one.  Thanks, guys!
Maybe the size you are viewing the screen?
Maybe try changing the percentage the screen is viewed at....
    "for your viewing pleasure"

My husband looked into things (I learned last night) and told me that what's there is recordings of actual college classes. No credit and you can't ask questions.

Thanks. I had to change the way I was viewing the site and then tried what you suggested -sm
and it seems to have worked.  Now I just need to see if I can get Express Scribe to work for me.  It has been a while since I have typed this way.  Thanks again for your help.

    Problems viewing inside posts.
I've been viewing the Jobseeker's Board for a couple of weeks now but in the last few days, when I open a post, the inside text extends over the right and left sides.  Posts that opened okay last week are now opening this way and it is impossible to see all the text.  Is it just me?  Does anyone know how to fix this?
To the others having problems viewing inside posts sm
I emailed as recommended and this morning the problem appears to be fixed.  See for yourself.  Yayyy!
#2 in main menu - edit and then options of editing, viewing appear.
However, if it has been finalized, you will not be able to view it but only add addendum. Only if report is in draft is it able to be viewed.
So, bottom line is it is a fraudulent web site and viewing it may have exposed us to a virus?

OMG - now THAT is something the public - nm
    .
    Public
    does not know.

I mentioned to my personal physician that transcription was being sent to India. He was surprised and concerned that this was happening.

Maybe we just need to educate the docs who mostly just dictate and don't know where it goes.

Public TV is getting to be just as bad as cable.
Good old evening family sitcoms are just smut and garbage.  We have a Netflix membership, so I fill up the queue with kids or family movies that I've researched and approved.  The kids have been watching those all summer when they feel the need to watch TV at all.
    MQ is a public company
under plenty of scrutiny right now. Are you saying they would tell a select group of employees before making the info available to shareholders? That is a violation of SEC rules. Your story is not credible. Unless your source is on the BOD, they know nothing.
No, public school in the U.S.
They had a MENSA group at the school, and we even got to CLEP college coursework.
Yes, but those pay more than public schoolteachers.
Our local college easily pays adjunct faculty twice ($30 hour) what public schoolteachers make.
When you are working with the public (sm)

there are always people who are sarcastic.  Yes, sarcastic will be among us, just like the poor.

By the way, what is your point besides needing to lash out at someone today?

I think in most USA public schools....nm

    Maybe in public VIEW! lol
Article I read said it was Barbara who decided to suggest firing Star because Rosie had said the only way she would join the View was if there was no Star! That and she was annoyed by her antics over the past year. So, yeah, real class that Babs! Maybe she's been hanging out with white-trash-with-money-Rosie a little too much? Maybe next they'll ask Britney Spears to join the show. LOL!
    informing the public

That's why I want my friend mentioned in my above post to go to the TV stations about this and expose it if it is not resolved -- NOT the particular MT in question, but the working conditions that make this kind of mistake possible.  This hospital is HUGE, one of the most well-known in the country.  I want TV there.

You mean you would actually do MT-ing in a public place?
If your at-home cable goes down.....dear Lord, I pray you never type my medical records in a public place. Geez Louise, how could you not know this is wrong???

These 2 companies were just awarded all of VISN 7. Not sure exactly where the split is. Look on VA website for hospitals make up VISN 7.
The way people appear in public anymore--
Reminds me of a T shirt I saw that read-- Too many freaks, not enough circuses. I think slippers are the least of your worry. I think people should at least be covered up and not letting everything hang out for public display. If they want to look like that at home, but not in public.
I don't really think a public website is the place
to be asking such a personal question...and if I were the people in question I don't believe I would want my last name on a public website either but that is just me...a little tact might have been nice...
I think I could handle it, I worked in the public
for 25+ years and it didn't scar me. I also worked as a nurse in a nursing home. If that doesn't scar you nothing will. I enjoy working at home, I just don't enjoy the fact that a lot of the dictators are inconsiderate and rude. If they had to listen to themselves, I think it would embarass them to hear how riduculous they sound.
Not enough money for me to sing in public!!
But, my 3 sons all do this all the time. The youngest sounds like Johnny Cash, and actually is requested to sing his songs a lot (even in the yuppie bars). My nieces (did I spell that right?? That word always evades me) all sing karaoke too.

I've heard some great singers in karaoke, and some bad ones. Frankly, I admire their nerve to stand up and perform. I have horrid stage fright (and yes, I can carry a tune).
I think she should meet him in public place..nm
    .
I am using public and private schools
My two youngest are in the local public elementary school, and I've had no problems with it. In fact, it's a terrific school, but I have a feeling it's probably much better than the average public school.

My eldest, who's in high school, goes to a private creative arts boarding school because I feel the local public high school doesn't give the kids enough one-on-one attention and doesn't offer as many educational opportunities as my son's school. Also, he is big into music and drama, and our local school has a weak creative arts department.
at home - harder job than public
True, I make more money, but the anxiety is killer. I work harder now than I ever did in a public position. Yes, I am here for my children when they get home from school, but I could not imagine trying to do my job with a baby. Also, as others will probably agree, the money in this field is not what it used to be. Good luck.
I saw a great show on public TV the other day with (sm)
Suze Orman about women & their money. One thing she couldn't emphasize enough (and which I totally agree, even if I don't always agree with her), is, "Ladies, you are NOT ON SALE." Selling ourselves short is the biggest mistake most of us (women) make in our lives. Anyone who accepts less pay tomorrow for work done just as competently as yesterday is putting themselves and their services ON SALE. Don't accept this back-stabbing offer. Find something else - this company obviously has only its own profits at heart, and could care less about its workers, the quality of its product, or the future of MT in general.
This is one of the things public assistance is for. nm
    !
But it wasn't in public, Barry (sm)
it was in private, between two consenting adults. And as far as religion becoming an integral part of every aspect of life, actually it is just the opposite - it is less a part of everday life than it ever has been. And then two people prayin privacy and you have an issue with it. Who is infringing on whose rights??
Yes, you can Transcribe Privately in public
    1) Use your own USB wireless access card, NOT the public WiFi. They cost between $40 and $60 per month and are available from Cricket, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, USCellular, Alltel, etc. If you can get a cell phone signal, you can transcribe. I've transcribed in my car parked at a Pilot station before. When the battery ran low, I plugged it in to my cigarette lighter adapter and kept typing. (I did have to turn the car on while recharging).

    2) Invest in GOOD headphones that keep your dictation IN and external noises OUT.

    3) Buy a 3M privacy screen for your laptop screen. Once installed (it's a cling-on thing) NOBODY can see your screen EXCEPT YOU.

People work on laptops in public ALL the time, and nobody cares. If you have a privacy filter on your laptop screen, nobody needs to know that you're working on confidential information but you!
To all wondering about working in public

re: ...working in public, pdf link
okay so I read the document. there are plenty of places that have security measures like this. i just left a university that had this sort of regulation in place with student's information.

No big deal as far as I can see, I would rather work for a company that had some accountable software for protecting the patient's stuff on my computer. Keeps me out of trouble.
MQ chose the public forum for us to ask questions.

Do you have any better idea?

They offered a job.  They are not producing the goods.  They don't return phone calls and they don't have any policy manuals for employees or contractors.

There is no other way to ask the question.  They brought us to this place through their misrepresentation of facts.  The fact is they offered work.  So why shouldn't they be looked at for unethical work practices?  I was looking for a job, they offered one.  It's not my responsibility now to go look for another job.  They need to reply as to why there is no work.

Questions like this should be taken up with your supervisor instead of a public forum. sm
I'm sure your supervisor could answer any questions you have.
Our medical information is public domain?
thats nuts. I dont even know how you come to that conclusion.

Ask your physician next time if his medical information is public domain and see what he says.
Might be public forum but you don't need to insult people
in "just kidding" or not. Now drop the subject. I accepted your apology, now move on. I will not argue the point with you. It is fruitless.
We are going to public in the Fall after 3 years at private - sm
I would have liked to go another year or 2 at the private but the cost is outrageous (over $6K a child and I have 2), plus they beat another $1K out of you over the course of the year for trips, teacher gifts, fundraisers, etc. Next year my monthy cost would have been over what we pay for the mortgage (and that is not counting the bus fee ($275 with the bus stop 6 miles away), student fees, and some other fee the stick in there). I do like the school but the headmaster (new as of 2 years ago) is dragging the school down and out right lies, so between him and the escalating cost we are putting our 2 in public next year. Our local school has a very good rep though and classes are only 1 or 2 students larger than what mine were in anyway. I checked them out before registering them there. My DH is not happy about it but he is coming around finally. But if they hate it (which I doubt) I will begrudingly put them back in the private school the following year (as long as the tuition doesn't jump up another $400....headmaster is already talking increases for the following year if enrollment keeps dropping....ya think the high cost has anything to do with it??? That and that fact that 6 teachers/aides quit at the end of the school year (big shock), the school is only K-8 (and preschool).
