Self Defense, pure and simple. I am leaving this board as of --sm

Posted By: Anon2 on 2007-01-10
In Reply to: One question, if you are so tired of me, why do you keep responding? SM - Tinks

today because of you and your obnoxious attitude. I know you don't care, but you should, being a *fellow MT*, but everything revolves around you and you always being right. You remind me of KiKi. YOu like to take cheap shots at everybody who does not have the same opinion as you about anything, just as long as you can start an argument and keep it going. You are vicious, rude, crude, and a definite infant. I will pray for you. good bye.

BS pure and simple. Nobody and I mean NOBODY is making $36/hour in this profession.

I have almost 20 years experience and the best I can do on a good day where I have few interruptions and have been chained to my PC for 8 straight hours I can make $20 per hour, MAYBE $25 but that is pushing it.  And I have my own accounts and have used my Expander to death.

    Is this Sally Struthers?

maybe it's just a pure and simple invasion of privacy the poster feels they want to protect.
if you do your job, who cares if poster was released from prison. weren't companies hiring prisoners to do MT anyway and weren't they doing credit card customer service?
thank you for coming to my defense (sm)
Of course I know my financial situation, but we have missed a few payments, have tried to contact the lein holder, but to no avail.
The best defense for a child...
As heart tugging as they are, accurate transcription is sooooo important for any person, there is a lot at stake and your best effort at triple checking what you have typed is our little helping hand at helping those seeking help. Flag ANYTHING you doubt, if you get lost in the "he said, she said," someone else will too and calling attention to those items WILL HELP to ensure the reports are easily read and understood. Keep up the good work, the job we do IS IMPORTANT! Any complaint or abuse is paperwork, paperwork, paperwork, just be sure those you do are the cream to help those who in need.
    In defense of Dano....

Further down on this board, someone posted a very rude post that implied that people who didn't think a college degree was important were inferior.  Dano requested that the poster not put people down that way.  So it's very understandable why she would ask this question.

But you already know that, don't you?  You responded to that post by telling her she has issues.

Since you obviously have you own issues concerning your abilities to  understand how this board works, the most current posts are at the top, which means the less current posts are at the bottom, which means she posted her request to stop putting down posters BEFORE she asked the above question.

You're even more rude than the *superior feeling* poster who started all this.

    Pure Citrus. sm
I got a can of stuff at WM called pure citrus.  It is pure orange OIL and it works on ANY odor.
    and nothing but pure speculation.......

    In defense of kids
I only have a niece and a nephew, but they tell me the same thing.  I was stressed out at the time and probably bit their heads off.  On further reflection, they were doing their best to be caring and supportive.  They can see what the upheaval at the Q is doing to me, and they're smart enough to know it's not good.  As my niece said, You work all the time, you have no money and you're no fun!  She's got that right!  They both think their aunt could do better and deserves better, as I suspect your children do for you.  They still believe in us - that we're smart enough to learn and/or do something else.  They're trying to give us the kick in the butt to look beyond the obvious - there are other in-hospital jobs we could learn and do and there are other jobs besides K-Mart (at least where I live) - and to get out there and try for them, as scary a thought as that is.  They still have the optimism of the young, and maybe us old folks could use a bit of that right now.  At least we know they love us, and that's not a bad thing either.
Not in defense of errors or anything, but - sm
one reason the QA field has exploded is the low wages. Taking the time to proofread is costly for an MT racing through the day's work in order to make a line count that will even pay her electric bill for that day. We shouldn't have to work that way. It would be easier to take pride in one's work as an MT if we were afforded the luxury of a living wage, so we would slow down a little and produce an even higher-quality document.
Ok, in my husband's defense, he apologized.
Then he made breakfast, lunch, and dinner yesterday for all of us, did the grocery shopping, mowed the lawn, put up a swingset for our little one, fixed our broken outdoor faucet, set up the pool for the kids, gave me a foot massage, cleaned the house, and washed my car.  I think I'll keep him....
In her defense, there are far too many men out there that really should come with warning labels. nm
    nm
    Pure, unadulterated BOLOGNE!!!...or...
    would you say "baloney?"  Probably.
My take on that is that alot of it is pure FANTASY.
Just to make my minimum lines, I'm working 10-11 hours days, plus at least part of Sat., and am making about $23,000/year. And I'm not a newbie, either - been at it for over 30 years.
Conversely.... in defense of the MTSOs..
.....where would the MTs be if the MTSOs just quit?

I realize this commentary may raise the ire of some MTs out there, but I believe the long-time MTs and MTSOs will understand what I am saying.

It really isn't as easy at might seem to some managing multiple accounts, turnarounds, IC flexible schedules, covering for the ICs when they want to take off for the afternoon and go shopping or to the park with the kids, doing the QA on the blanks to find that medication or doctor's name that the IC did't feel like spending the time looking up in the resources available, and still meet our contracted turnaround with the client.

The sending of work offshore has drastically reduced the amount clients pay and I can tell you from personal experience that most MTSOs are rolling in the dough, living in fancy houses and driving fancy cars. We are making pennies, just the same as the ICs are. We are not the national corporations and we are not sending work off shore. We are the moderate to small MTSOs that respect the fact that experienced transcriptionists with good work ethics are hard to come by. Most of us pay our ICs based on the average national rate.

You can certainly do the math if you're interested. Average line rate (in our area) is 0.12 per line, 0.14 if we are REALLY lucky. Most want to pay 0.10 or 0.11. Telephone, internet and system costs (with maintenance) cost an average of 0.02 per line. Experienced MT average rate nationwide is 0.08 per line. So, we hire trainees right out of school rather than sending work offshore for 0.04 a line and may the trainees 0.06 a line to learn the accounts we are getting 0.10 for, paying 0.03 for QA on those if we can afford a QA person and giving them incremental increases as they improve, keeping the experienced MTs on the 0.11 accounts, and paying our non-QA-requring MTs 0.09 to 0.095 per line.

Even if a service bills out $2,000,000 (yep, two million dollars) per year, $40,000 isn't a whole bunch of money. Some of us could make that much managing an office for a national. But then who would hire the ICs that want a really flexible work schedule, do not want to do ESL work, will not be available for STATS and want their own primary account to work on when they want to, and have someone else cover when they're out for an afternoon with the kids.

Hmmmm.. seems like there's not much left for the cars and groceries of the MTSO either.

Transcription is a profession, not just a job. If you want 0.11 or 0.12 per line, feel free to go find and manage your own accounts. If you want a "job" with steady hours and steady pay.. I think they're hiring at our local fast food restaurant.

Ignore them - pure ignorance on the subject

Oh man,pure-dee evil stuff! "Worse" when you use

Has anyone used the Eden Pure Heater as a supplement?

I hear Paul Harvey advertise this heater on the radio all the time and I am considering it for our house for this winter. I just wonder how much it might really save us since we use propane to heat and this is an electric heater. It sounds good according to what I have heard and read but obviously I don't really know.

I am in my home office most of the day and thought I could turn our furnace down low as there is no need to heat the entire house when I spend at least 8 hours a day in my office and I am the only one at home during the day. I could just close my office door and use this heater and maybe save some $. We have a 1600 sq. ft. home, one level, and we spent about $1900 for propane last year (including hot water heater and gas cooking stove).  I wore thermals and warm clothes as well as used a snug snack while working but I am always cold and had the thermostat turned up to 72 during the day and 66 at night.

I will post the link for those that might be interested in knowing more bout the heater.

What works for me is I take a women's self defense class . .
twice a week. I get to beat up on a man for an hour. Great fun and stress reliever. Also a kick-boxing class. I just imagine I'm kicking the doctor in the you know what. LOL
Pure opinion dear. I make an extra 1 cpl with CMT. As well,
I can see that you, however, are an angry, disgruntled person.

Just because YOU didn't get the bennies and YOU can't make a good living doesn't mean the rest of us are doomed to your fate!!

Uh yeah, in a debate there's usually defense and an offense. Hence someone is always "on the
defensive."  I simply posted my opinion about non-compete clauses and my experience with an untrustworthy service and how I handled it and then I'm called unethical and unprofessional.  That kind of puts me on the defensive, dontcha think? Kind of begs me to defend my actions...
Let the docs use their reports transcribed in India as a defense! LOL
The doc can sit there while the personal injury lawyer shows the jury a grieving family and the messed up report.
US MTs should not accept sweat shop wages or conditions. We are providing a service to them! We are their first defense!:) :) :)
If US MTs stoped working for low wages, the physicians who value patient safety and their livelihood would pay a descent wage. The other ones can try to explain the report being done in India to the personal injury lawyer tearing him apart.

It's pure luck anymore, Steveo. The biggest bucks

    Leaving MQ
A friend of mine left MQ and went back into a hospital setting.  She went from barely making 1200 lines a day to over 2000 a day (8 hours).  She also went from statuatory with no benefits to all the perks of being in-house including insurance, vacation, 401K, paid holidays, etc.  She was also offered after training the opportunity to work from her home which she took.  She is so happy.
    Leaving MQ?

    Leaving this
Hi Romey, you're not alone. I've done this for 20 years and I find I can't even look at it anymore because of some of the things that have happened in the field. Don't know what to tell you to do because I'm searching too. I should have listened to my common sense a long time ago.
    Please consider leaving
Your local police department can give you information on shelters or organization that can put you and your kids in a safe place until you get on your feet. If he is abusing you, you must also consider calling the police on him so the abuse is documented. I'm sure you know of the fatalities that happen everyday due to domestic abuse. Please take action. If he is abusing your children and someone else finds out about it and reports your husband, they can arrest you as well for having knowledge of the fact that your kids are being abused and doing nothing about it.

My heart goes out to you. I have a background in counseling and had sessions with women for years who were being abused. It frustrated me to see these women twice a month for counseling because all they wanted to do was talk about how their spouse continued to abuse them but they wouldn't do anything about it. Your kids will always remember what they are going through. This type of environment often scars children emotionally as well as physically. They can grow up to have major psychological issues as a result.

Life is too short to be miserable everyday. He is not accentuating your life in any way. He is taking from you in every way possible. I beg you to give serious thought to removing yourself from this situation. I know it may feel like you are jumping without a parachute but think of it this way...how much worse could it get? Things can only get better.

    Take care.
    leaving
Yep, I left. It was NOT easy.  Some days i did not think I was gonna make it -- but you know what?  I left a big farmhouse and live in a small 2-bedroom apartment.  But it is near everything - the library, the school, etc. At first my daughter threw a fit......and my son cried.  But a month later...everybody is much much happier.  Now, when I walk out of my peaceful car to my peaceful door and lay on my rent-a-center peaceful couch -- I think.....God...where is the screaming?  How did I stand it that long?  No one is mad around here?  And my children are adapting perfectly.  And I walk in my room, take off my clothes, lay on my bed and grab a book and read...and it is pure joy.  Worth every tear.  You'll see.  All of us..all of us -- we want you to have the peace that you need and that your babies will thrive with.  It's tough..but you are gonna make it.

    Leaving MT

Fellow MTs, I am leaving our once-esteemed position.  I am taking a position as a trainer at a large national insurance company.   More money than I've ever made, lots of paid time off plus holidays, and weekends off.   It's been 10 years since I've had a "real job" and had not had to work weekends and holidays.

They are playing for my airline tickets, my accommodations, food and car while stationed away from home.  I am one lucky duck.

I used to love doing MT, but it has been a challenge for me the past 2-3 years to stay focused.   To all of you who still love the job, I say hurray!    This is a blessing for me to make this move at this point in my life and I'm very grateful.  I intend to enjoy every moment of it.

    Bye, all!

    Leaving MT
Congratulations on your new job!  There is a time and a season to everything in life, and this is your season for change.  God bless you.
    Leaving MT

You know what?  I just cannot do this anymore.  My last day was 12/31/06.  I am moving in a different direction--not sure what all yet, but I just cannot transcribe any more.  After 17 years of listening to doctors chew, and waiting--listening to silence--with my pay rate DROPPING over the years  , not increasing--I have to leave.

There's only a tiny, tiny part of me that feels sad--it's the part of me that was so overjoyed to be able to do this at home and be here when my children were little.  I really thought I would keep doing this forever. Recently, though, I just cannot do it anymore!  One day I woke up and had had enough!

I am working on some things here at home that I had going.  Some home businesses, things I make, etc.

I just wanted to say BYE.

I wish you the best.  I know how you feel.  After more than 20 years I too will be leaving transcription. Transcription is just not what it used to be.
    Leaving MT
I've already left and felt kind of blue but after reading so many posts here, I feel a relief also. No money in it anymore and I have done this for 35 years! Now I'll turn my attention to sewing, selling on E-Bay, whatever, to keep myself active. Good luck!
Speaking to yourself? Because I'm not leaving here ... :)

My son is leaving for the Air Force
I am so proud of him, yet so worried with the situation the world is in right now.  Please pray for him if you would!
    thinking of leaving too
My hands are always killing me and i'm not as focused as I used to be. Plus i'm in school and having something going on the side.  But I need to keep a full time job, so i've been looking in the local papers in the health care sections.  CNAs make 8 bucks an hour!!!  Geez, we get paid more than actual caregivers, but my hand pain is so out of control I may have to take a caregiver job or get certified as a CNA or nutrition specialist and take a pay cut.
    Um, didn't I say I was leaving?

    Sorry leaving address
I have almost five years experience, still probably considered a newbie when I see some with almost 5 to 6 times that much.  But I just wanted to email someone who knows more about transcriptions companies than I do at present.
    Finally leaving MQ
Finally leaving MQ.  Will miss the nice people but not the new changes.  Thanks everyong on this board for your help.  It's kind of scary to make a change, but what the heck.  It won't matter in 10 years.
    Finally leaving MQ
If you do not mind my asking, what company was that test for?
    Leaving hospital
This is very common actually. Unless the patient has a braclet on that will alert hospital security when she/he exits doors, it is very easy to do.

You know the adage about "hospital security" being an oxymoron? People come and go all the time, as one of the other posters said.

    Leaving MT field?
I feel for you and can understand all your concerns. I think there are areas out there with great demands like teaching, nursing (get your LPN or CNA to get started in the field), radiology technology or a shorter schooling experience would be for medical coding, though won't be surpised if technology takes that job away too! You can become a certified phlebotomist and get started in the lab work area. These areas are just the tip of the iceberg, but change can be done and is not impossible. Good luck!
Who do you think will be leaving tonight?
    I think Kevin.
Am in the process of leaving a job right now, and it's a very

Plan on leaving due to the
pay cut, is just bad timing, was told 11/01 would take effect 12/02. Financially, I am not prepared to make a job change until I receive my income tax refund check. I found it to be very degrading and looks like others did also and did actually quit as of 12/02 because the stats are now backed up 4 days since 12/02.
    C-Phone - Leaving mid-job

to an account is normal. You have to get used to the account and the doctors.
Yep and I'll be leaving them for ATT
Yep and i download at least 60 voice files a day 6 days a week and my kids download music and videos and college assignments-if I stay with Time Warner I might end up paying $100s a month for internet.  This way with ATT I can type anywhere; at our cottage, if we go camping, and not have to worry about it.  Time Warner is just greedy.

I hate the thought of him leaving!
I am listening to Kaysar explain the future plan to Howie (who I love, but seems dumb as a rock sometimes) and Janelle (who I think is smarter than she appears). It is making sense what he's saying but isn't something I'd think of. Kay is telling them to get rid of James next, that the best chance to get rid of him is next when the Friendship will help to evict him if he is up against one of their own. Otherwise if Maggie goes, James will take her place as leader of the 4 followers. Makes total sense what all Kay is saying. He is one smart cookie... if it weren't for his trusting nature, he would win this game easily. Jen will get hers when she comes out of the house and has most of America on her back for evicting their favorite houseguest.. but of course she will pretend she doesn't care what people say or think.. She is so insecure though that we all know she does. :-)
