I don't know if that has affected her facial features at all, though.

LASIK - I am considering having LASIK to correct my nearsightedness/astigmatism. Anyone had this?
My eye doctor says I am a good candidate. I would like to hear any positives/negatives from any of you who have had the procedure. Thanks.
Nope, can't do, too many complications
Back to square 1.
I had a surgery followed by complications (sm)
that turned into a 3-week hospitalization, about 1 week was in the ICU. When I got the bill it was $150,000...total paid by my insurance company was about $55,000. My portion was $100.00. Don't make too many assumptions based on the bill, it's not an accurate picture.
Expander Complications

I am wondering how you all handle alternate patterns for expansions when they conflict (keeping them straight).  I have lots of them created and so many times I have to deviate from my normal pattern because another word, words, or phrase has already been designated for a particular one.  The problem comes in when I am typing and trying the different versions to figure out which it is OR if I have even made one for it all thus far.

It is not bad if I type one or two accounts and not so many dictators in a shift, because then I typically use the same ones enough to get a good flow going; however, shifts when I am doing 3-5 accounts and numerous dictators, I have quite a bit of trouble.  It seems I spend too much time checking, fumbling, creating, etc. and never get a good typing flow going.

In using the theory that I should make a glossary for everything (every which way it is dictated), I spend time checking to see if I have made one for so many words (and phrases) that it often feels like a waste of time and endless battle.  - Plus, it seems like as time goes on (I've been doing this just over a year), I find better combinations (easier for me to type, or due to new words phrases) and tweak many I have already made.  I can see how it might all come together in a few years, but right now it gets frustrating and takes up time.

I recently purchased the Saving Keystrokes book.  My main pattern is typically a bit differnt but some are the same and basically the same idea.  She agrees that we should create endless expansions, but does anyone else find this a problem?

Can those of you who feel you use them a lot tell me what percentage of your typing is expanded and what percentage is straight typed?  Also any answers to the other issues I have mentioned with this would really be appreciated.

Sorry this is such a long and rambly post, and thanks so much for your help!

I held both of my parents as they died from complications of smoking.
I told my children they were free to smoke after they did the same. There's not one smoker among my extensive circle of friends and associates, thank goodness.
Why are foot surgeries always so long?
It's just a foot!  They are longer than hip surgeries, back surgeries, any kind of surgeries.  WHY?
speaking of breasts and surgeries....

is anyone willing to fess up to a breast "augmentation". I never thought I would ever, EVER consider something like this, but after having my babies, breastfeeding, etc... have thought about now and again.

This is my base rate for surgeries sm
I have an incentive program, I can make more, but this is my base rate. I had this rate at another company where I did OPs for 4 yrs and I made really good money at it typing just outpatient surgical notes (6 hours a day, 1500-1700 lines a day average during that shift).

In point of fact, it is much easier to get normals set up for this situation than for OPs in a hospital because you have fewer doctors and fewer different procedures.
Yes had 5 surgeries over 24 months with anesthesia and saw several specialists (sm)
after about 8 months to a year I stopped shedding like the dog!! Concensus was that it was related to the anesthesia. My nails split as well and were weak during that time. So it all has to come out somewhere. But it finally ended. I did get (at salon) don't know if I can mention the maker but it starts with an (R) & it is Butter Cream (any good salon will know what you want) & Smooth Down shampoo; and just remoisturizer my hair between shampoo, wet the hair, wet a towel put it in the microwave rung out and then moist heat, about 15 to 20 seconds in the micro!! It sure did help the dry hair.
Have had three major surgeries and mistakes were made...
So, I fully understand how he forgot but admitting to this would have been worse than saying the procedure was completed. However, you do have a case that can be proven simply by no incision lines that correspond to the operative report's description. Finding any physician who will testify against a high standing member of the medical community sounds like the challenge. Sorry this had to turn into a nightmare for you.

According to type of report - i.e., common surgeries,
or physical examinations are what I normally save.
I always picture a doctor saying.."Gotta go do 3 brain surgeries day, ho hum"

Lasik
Best 3700.00 I ever spent. The day after the procedure, I was able to see 15/20 and 4 years later, I am back to 20/20...but that is perfect. Good luck!
Lasik

Wow, thanks for that input. The thought of someone zapping my eyes is scary but your comments could sway me in favor of  the procedure. Maybe I can throw these ugly glasses away forever!

I had LASIK
I remember reading about a young man who had RK for one eye and LASIK for the other. The LASIK eye recovered much more quickly with much less pain.

The LASIK procedure I had was the more expensive digital WAVE procedure, I think they called it. I had astigmatism and wanted surgery only once, and that's what I got, so I'm happy.
Lasik
I'm sure you could get the Lasik for the nearsightedness, but might still need a reader for the up close reading.  My problem is reading books, everything else is OK with the contacts.  My contacts ere cheaper than multifocal glasses, that is why I took this route, don't have vision insurance and it all comes out of my pocket!!!  Every penny helps these days.
Lasik eye surgery...
Has anyone ever had it?
Lasik eye surgery
I had it done about 5 years ago and it was AWESOME! I could see better than 20/20 almost immediately after the procedure! After wearing glasses since age 8-9, it was absolutely amazing to be able to SEE clearly!! I'd recommend it to anyone who's dependent on glasses 24/7.
Lasik eye surgery
Hi, I had it 4 years ago, my husband is far sighted and had it done 8 years ago, my sister had it and we are all THRILLED!!!
Any MTs around that have had the LASIK procedure and how are you doing?

Please post a response

I was told I could not have LASIK....sm

Been in glasses since age 4 all the time, now in 50s only wear them for distance....but was told that because I have astigmatism and myopia that LASIK will not work on me......they tried bifocals 17 years ago and I returned them....they said by 50, you'll need 'em.  Well, I'm beyond that age and still don't want bi- or trifocals even with no lines...hard to teach an old dog new tricks

Sorry you had such a bad experience.  I had dry eye once for months due to a medication I was on for a year, so I do know what it feels like, and I, myself, stopped driving at night 10 years ago...night vision problems and all those confusing colored lights and headlights *l*

Hope things get better for you.

Had Lasik done years ago, best thing
Vision so bad before and got to where I was having trouble just seeing with any kind of aid. I love my new sight. Was told prior to having if I wore reading glasses for smaller print that would not change but made no different as I was really nearsighted and now excellent sight.
Wish I were a candidate for LASIK. My eyes are extremely dry.

Question for those who responded to Lasik eye surgery post
I had one dr. say I was not a candidate for lasik surgery and then this year went in for eye exam and was told that they couldn't understand why previous dr. said no when they felt I was.  I don't know which one to believe.  Also, 2nd dr. said he would do one eye for distance and other for close vision - is this hard to get used to?
