If you paid with Paypal you can file a claim with them, just do it before
30 days is up. If you paid via credit card you can file a claim with the credit card company, even if you paid via Paypal with a credit card. You can also file a fraud charge with the U.S. postal service if the item went through them. With the post office it would take a while to get your money though. You can also notify the police in her state/county, though most likely they will take a report and that is it, unless this is a habitual thing and others have complained.

There is so much subterfuge and backstabbing with some of our jobs these days, that it is rare and refreshing to have someone come and explain their views in a professional and thoughtful manner. You are right, I guess it is inevitable that offshoring is here to stay...it just makes me feel really sad when I see what has happened to our industry. We never did really receive the recognition that we deserve for the complexity of our profession and now, any faint remainder of dignity is completely gone. I am just downhearted about the whole state of affairs. Where does one go after wasting 30 years of one's life in a dead-end job? I'm tired of fighting for the respect that never did materialize after all....
Rename your normal.dot file to something else then restart Word. It will create a new file.

to the small percentage of people that have decided to try to take CHRIST out of Christmas. Gimme a break. I got an e-mail from a friend who recommends that everyone who believes it should be CHRISTMAS, not "happy holidays" or "holiday tree" etc. to send the ACLU a CHRISTMAS card and tell them to leave our holidays alone. If people who want to celebrate CHRISTMAS flood them with cards then they'll have to open them - after all, they want to see if there are donations in them, correct? For anyone who reads this and is offended by CHRISTMAS - I supposed you're volunteering to work on December 25th so that those who do celebrate it can take off correct? I get tired of people stating they don't think we should celebrate CHRISTMAS but yet they're often times the first people to request to be off on December 25th. Double standard!

I haven't celebrated December 25th as a religious holiday since I was a kid. I don't see it that way. I've also used the "Xmas" spelling since my early 20s, along with the spelling of G*d, and "JC."
Will I be allowed to post my messages with these spellings, or can I expect them to be blasted (like last year) or deleted?
Like I said ... I'm not denying anyone the right to believe as they do. I'm only asking the same courtesy in return.

Help..I lost my word file. How can I retreive a file that has been changed? sm
I was working on a large file and had saved it in Word. I then went back to work on the file and hit a key that made the page go blank. When I went to close the document it asked me to save any changes on the document. I answered yes, and now when I click on that document it is all blank! Shouldnt the previous info saved be there, even if the current stuff is not? Please help me!! Thank you

I did not advise her not to claim it, she can do what she wants. A company can expense out without filing a 1099. I have expensed out without doing 1099's before and have never been questioned by the IRS. In fact you have to notify the IRS that you will be filing 1099's. Do all hairdressers report all of their "cash" tips? I suppose you could do 1000 jobs at $500 each to make your 50K per year and not claim it but I doubt that you could find that many jobs. All we are talking about here is one job and that is what I based my answer on not the hypothetical "thousands of jobs under $500". I doubt that the amount she made would change her "owed taxes" except for social security and even then not that much. Sp again -- she needs to do what she feels is the correct thing to do and if she loses sleep over not reporting a couple of hundred dollars then report it but do not expect a 1099.

You can save the SH file in a text file and import to IT that way. sm
You may have to do some cleanup in the SH text file, but it sure would be faster than re-entering them all manually.
File taxes under the name on file w Social Security....
Name on W2 doesn't have to match, but your tax return has to match SS records. They don't want your marriage license or anything else. Did that for 13 years as instructed by IRS. Didn't have to change it with SS until state changed rules requiring drivers license to match SS records. Still use my maiden name in some limited circumstances.

You pay your home state tax, whatever percentage that is. You can claim
deductions for anything associated to your job....i.e., a percentage of your utilities, expenses such as supplies needed to do your job, etc. Save all receipts for any of those items that you purchase related to the job, and I think the 1099 would be sufficient.

If you think you can claim a part of rent as propety tax you can't.
It probably asks if you rent because then there would be no property taxes to claim. If you owned then there would be property taxes. It s/l it is walking you through the steps. You can claim property taxes for vehicles, but you have incurred no property taxes as you don't own your residence. I'm sure property taxes are considered when they decide how much to charge for rent, but who ever owns the property is paying the taxes and not you.

Just found that out also as last year my IC job only started in October and didn't make enough for taxes. This year will be different though. My employer said consider it free money. Can't argue with that. Checked with H&R Block and they confirmed it.

and is there a limit to how often you purchase computers for your work? A friend thought you could buy one a year and claim it. I bought the laptop and desktop in December and already hate the laptop, but I hate to purchase another one if I cannot claim it this year.
