Some people like to keep a Time Clock thing showing on their monitors, too. But

Can someone help with Windows 98 time/clock? I'm losing about an hour a day (sm)

I have Windows 98 and the same computer since 1999.  I have never a problem until this week.  The clock setting is losing about an hour a day.  I reset it every morning, but around afternoon, it's about a half hour off, but night, its an hour off, etc.  I haven't noticed any other problems with any other programs.

Does anybody have any ideas what is causing this and how to fix it, other than just keep resetting it?

Thanks you guys!

TAKING A POLL-PUNCH TIME CLOCK
Who works for a company that requires you to punch a time clock?
it is some type of time clock application..just wondered if anyone used it.
x
The clock does play into how much time is spent with patients
The way the CPT codes bill insurance have guidelines for the physicians built into them that give amounts of time spent with the patient (in addition to certain information covered in the ROS/PE), especially in consultations (whether inpatient or out), hospital discharge codes and critical care time (inpatient or out).

Yes, that computer is in fact billing the insurance company because it not only saves not having to pay an MT, it bypasses a billing clerk (eliminating that salary), and if the doctor's office space is paid for by a hospital, that file is sent to the hospital's database where a *scrubber* compares what the MD submits versus coding guidelines. If it is an independent office, the MD can upload all that day's billing before he walks out the door and leave it unattended to update patient accounts and reconcile the days money intake.

In a nut shell, your doctor is no longer just practicing medicine. Your MD is doing the documentation and billing and saving money on two warm bodies.

I understand your concern as I see it more and more in today's medical care, but yes, this is the way things are going. I am fortunate that my MD has been very computer literate for a long time, so the amount of time he spends with his laptop is minimal. Once he enters the info, he kicks his shoes back and we chat and get into a deeper discussion both professionally and personally (we've known each other a long time). Give your MD a chance to play catch up to what he or she is doing with that computer and you should see a more relaxed physician soon.

Good luck.
At one time, someone posted a link for a free clock timer. sm
I've searched the archives but could not find it. It was for timing your actual time spent transcribing. Anybody remember what it was. TIA.
It isn't about showing MTs the money, it's about showing

This is the thing with editing VR that most people
It isn't like QA editing where you just fill in the blank or 100% edit only a certain number of reports to check a person's QA scores.   Each and every one of these VR reports have to be 100% scanned even if they don't need a lot of revision.  The companies try to play up the "editing" to get away with offering an "editing" rate.  Some people can make money with this because they are normally slower than others.  People who are generally fast at straight typing or have a lot of macros never make money on VR.  It's not possible.  Even if you happen to get a good day when every single report is 100% accurate (and believe me, those days are very rare), you still have to read the entire report.  That takes the same amount of time as if you had the macro and just read it as the doctor dictated it...but the difference is that you're only getting paid "editing" rate for VR.  It's a win/win situation for the companies and only a win situation for the MTs who aren't normally moderate to high producers.
Because at age 18 I, like most people, had no clue what was the right thing to do
But I'm fixing that now. Better late than never.

Working towards master's degree, switched careers completely.
Do people really still do the second hole thing???
I stopped that so long ago my second holes closed up.
that's another thing uneducated people say

There's one thing that I've seen stop many many people....
A heart attack or cancer.  My father-in-law SWORE he could not quit not matter what, but had a coronary and that was his last cigarette.  My own father quit cold turkey after 3+ packs a day when he began coughing so hard he couldn't catch his breath.  I've also known people who had a cancer scare and were able to quit.  If nothing else, FEAR will do it.  Unfortunately, waiting for the fear might be too late for many.
Another thing, people expect the government
to pick up the pieces for them, and everyone is concerned about this. Do people not care that we are paying for people who should not be here in the first place. I am paying for free school, health care, welfare for the Hispanic family, who are very nice, next door to me. All are illegal. They bought their house with cash. They have 4 cars. Their kid goes to free preschool because he is automatically in because he speaks Spanish. I take my daughter 30 minutes out to a high school because I cannot afford anything else. How is this fair? Why are more people not standing up and saying this is not right. We pay the money, we SHOULD be entitled to help, whether you or anyone else thinks they deserve it or not, whether that girl had a baby out of wedlock. It is not as big an issue as the billions of people we are supporting that are not putting a dime back into the system. What is people's problem? I am all for people who come here legally, go to work and contribute back to society. At least the ones having babies out of wedlock are at some point paying taxes and/or their family is.

Unbelievable how people have different definitions of the exact same thing
You said, "I just wanted to isolate myself at home on evenings and weekends".

A "social butterfly type" wouldn't have made that observation about herself. You made a decision to isolate yourself, which you of course have every right to do because most of us here do the same thing.
The only thing it affects is the view. Some people just don't like more than 100% on their scree
xx
one thing at a time

FACT:  VR works if "all of the tumblers click." But most importantly - the correct sound card and microphone, you dictate correctly (you cannot dictate in the same manner that you talk to someone), and you take the time to correct errors (that could be as they occur or at the end of the day). Remove one ... and you're going to have problems.

>>>And obviously you don't work for Transcend or MDI-FL where not only is the VR platform crap, but the accounts are difficult accounts AND our Expander program still doesn't allow macros.

That was never mentioned in the original message.

>>>If you're making money, you must not have made that much before VR.

Depends upon your definition of "that much."

>>>I was making over 9 cpl on straight typing at 400-450 lph on an account all ER and OPs.

I currently work on four to five different accounts, all acute care with a wide variety of dictator (maybe 100 or so). ST and IT will not work for me. I've been using Word w/ AutoCorrect all along. I don't know squat about macros and templates. With that ... depending upon the dictator, I average 275 to 325 lph.

>>>There is no way possible to produce 900 lph to just break even to what I was making let alone to MAKE money on VR.

Not true ... or was the $75+ I made in 1-1/2 hours my imagination?

>>>You may be using your macros in VR and doing the same thing you did while straight typing, but you're making less money doing it.

I never said I use macros in VR. In fact, I don't. Everything is straight dictation for me.

>>>I don't care what company you're working for, they aren't paying you the same rate for editing VR as they did for straight typing, and there is NO WAY you're producing over 900 lph, so my statement stands about high producers not making money.  The only point you made is that you had to be a mediocre producer to be making money, otherwise you'd just be breaking even.

Excuse you?

1.  VR is not for everyone. I have said that many times. But it's a real life saver when you have physical ailments that slow down your production (I had a busted finger and was casted for a month). You ever type with two fingers casted together?
2.  VR works for people who are willing to do what is necessary to make the product work correctly. And from what I've read "around town," most are not.
3.  *I* can produce more lines per hour using VR, without the macro and template features, than I can typing in Word with AutoCorrect. I don't have a good memory, and that won't change. So why would I type? Very simple ... to keep my hands limber.

If you are kicking out 400-450 lph on the keyboard, however you do it, then keep right on doing what you're doing. And I'll do the same thing.

One thing at at time
Try focusing on the here and now. Sometimes thinking about EVERYTHING is just too much. If you stay focused on whatever you are doing right now, such as dishes, watching a movie, transcribing, the time will pass and you will get through this. One day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at a time.
People do it all the time...

just make sure you're not short-changing your employer(s).  If you're good at what you do and want to put in the time to do it right, what's the problem???

2 monitors
I have the 2 monitor set up (also Dell) and LOVE IT. Just like you said, use one for work and the other for references. That way, don't have to get out of the typing screen I'm in. I have 2 desks though and one is a quite large computer desk. But it doesn't take up that much space.
Two monitors
I was just using two monitors and I didn't have to switch back and forth.  I just turned on each monitor at its respective switch.  My son is a graphic designer and uses two monitors and he said that some CPU's have a port for more than one monitor, it depends on your mother board.  Sounds like a tech question to me.  I would ask the guys at the geek squad when you go to Best Buy.
monitors

If your computer has extra ports to put additional "cards" in, then you can get a dual monitor monitor card and plug both monitors in that way.  You don't need a switch of any sort.

I think it's the stupidest thing on TV in a long time.
x
That's why I asked if it was a one-time thing or a pattern
A one-time slip-up is bad enough, but some people have a "serial cheating" personality that is unacceptable and definitely a deal-breaker.
The hard time was the past thing.
Hi, I have just joined Spheris Hyderabad. Two months for settling down is what they give you and after that it is your regular type-type-type. There are nooooooooo problems with this new Spheris Clarity (R) platform. With this, things are just moving smooooooooothly.
I do ops all the time too and HATE them. Why do people like them? sm
Give me a 10 minute discharge, ER, consult, H&P any day. I always wondered why people liked OP notes with all of the different equipment terms and such.
Who monitors this site?
I am sorry, I was under the impression this was a site meant to be helpful to MTs by providing information and resources.  That was what I was searching for anyway when I happened upon this site this morning.  Maybe I just happened to pick the wrong day for a first visit or maybe a lot of people are just having a bad day because with the exception of a few posts I have read (I am sure there are a lot of nice people that visit this site, but apparently not very many today) the majority I have seen displayed here are filled with hateful criticism and vicious remarks towards others.  How sad that people can be so cruel to one another and how one sidedness can still show its ugliness in this modern day and age so that people look down their nose at a way of life because it is different.  We may not all agree on what to eat, wear or live in but a difference of opinion should never turn vicious and hurtful towards someone because their choice may be different from your own. Without variety the world be boring and cruel remarks only come from ignorance which leaves me to say this.  I may prefer to live in a house but I would rather live next door to someone in trailer who knows how to respect others than next door to someone in an expensive house that lets ignorance dictate how they treat others.
HP and Dell monitors
I have an HP f1903 LCD that I love so much that I bought DH the new model for Christmas, the HP f1905. It is not nearly as nice. I also have a new Dell 19 inch LCD that is a little better than the HP f1905 for text but not nearly as (no way close!) good as the HP F1903. So, I'd say go to the stores and look at the text quality of any LCD monitor -- they can be drastically different from model to model.

I love my Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0. It uses double or triple A batteries but I don't change it that often. I also have a Logitech wireless mouse that is very nice, doesn't need batteries (which can be a drawback if you forget to recharge the unit) but tends to freeze on my system.
Monitors and Mouse
I have two flat panel monitors side by side - connected to each other - one is a 21", the other a 19".. its like having one hugh gigantic TV screen - you can drag from one monitor to the other, you can have your email up and running on one, your work on one, etc......watching the work upload as you continue along your merry way. They are both from Dell, one is a Dell Brand, the other one is a Planar. I think its worth the investment, NO MORE GLARE and so easy on your eyes versus the big ole clunkers. and a 15" flat panel is exactly the same viewing as one of those big old 17-19" cluunkers that take up so much space.

Regarding wireless mouse/keyboard, i type non-stop almost 12 hours a day and I rarely have to replace the batteries - I use the Microsoft ergonomic wireless keyboard/mouse.
computer monitors
Any opinions on what the best type of monitor is for this work?  I have a 17 inch flat panel--thinking about "upgrading"--is bigger necessarily better?  What is the "easiest" on the eyes--or what can you add to the monitor to make it easier on the eyes?? thanks for any tips!
What irritates me is that people on here actually take the time to answer her

Why not? Other MT boards refer people here all the time?
Are we supposed to just pretend other sites don't exist?
Those people obviously do not work full time or want to
make a good living. I would work at McDonald's before I would let someone take my house. If someone is not making enough money in this field, it is them, not the industry. Tired of everyone tip-toeing around this issue. The money is there but you need to buckle down and do the work. Stop whining and start working.
No but I wish people would take the time to find this information. sm
Sometimes it just takes the effort to look. I see people wanting information. The information is easy to find, but they want others to do the research and hand it to them. I had to do the research. I now have 20+ docs/clinics BUT key point is I did all of my own research, learned about how digital works, etc. I truly believe, the more you read (research) the more you as an individual will learn and therefore be able to offer your clientm more.
Geez people! Why are some of you so nasty all of the time? SM

I don't think having your husband be the IC and hiring you is the the way to go.  It's too convoluted.  What you can do is apply and test for jobs under your husband's name.  That way on paper he has the job.  Then you just do the work.  The paychecks come in his name.  That way he doesn't have to "hire" you.  You can earn as much as you want.

I wouldn't worry about Uncle Sam too much.  He's been screwing all of us for years.  What he doesn't know won't hurt him.  Of course, now you've posted it in a public forum...

Vert/horiz monitors

I'm shopping around for a new  flat panel monitor screen, 17" to 20".  Anyone experienced with horizontal/vertical screens?  Appreciate some feed back  if this is worthwhile in our field.

What monitors do you guys prefer?

Hi all!!  I am new here and am getting the feel of things.  I was wanting an opinion.  I am looking into buying me a new monitor and looking at LCDs.  Which is better on the eyes or which do you prefer and why?  I have been told 17" is better because 19" stretches things to make them fit.  Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cindy

Can you hook up two monitors to your computer? sm
That way, you can have the labs screen up all the time on the right screen while you are transcribing on the left screen. Then when you need to copy lab values, they are right there for you to read and type or copy and paste.
Is it possible to use 2 separate monitors with just one computer?
I'd have two monitors but only one computer.  I guess there would have to be somewhere to plug it in...and I only see one place to plug in a monitor but was hoping someone knew of some kind of adapter or a way to get around this?  Thanks!!

It's always the first thing a computer person asks me...lol! And it works a lot of the time. nm

You people are having a real good time condemning me....

Don't you know that you can DEACTIVATE your current OS when you upgrade to the next level?  Obviously not. But then, most people here don't seem to be all that computer literate. I asked a couple of computer questions below which got absolutely NO answer.

Don't go jumping to conclusions that someone is a "scammer" and "ruining it for everyone else" until you do your homework.

I second this suggestion. Just pick a time zone and let people know. (nm)

? switching monitors to flat panel sm
I have ordered a flat screen monitor from Dell and will be switching from a 14 inch dinosaur to a 17 inch flat screen on an Acer tower. I just wonder if I am going to have problems or does it "adjust itself" without problems. Need more desk space. TIA
The worst problem with MQ is running people out of work all the time.

I don't know of any store in my area that hires people full-time.
That includes Walmart, K-mart, grocery stores, etc. So I guess it's all slave labor. In fact, any transcription company that does not hire employees must also be the same. They certainly save themselves a lot of money under the guise of Independent Contractors, don't they?
This message is defining what VBC is! It's time people realize the American MTs...

Why do so many people LOVE operative notes? I see posts about it all the time...
how they make good money on them, they could do them all day, feel cheated when they don't get them? I have been doing this for years and years and still kind of groan when I see them come up on my screen. Fill me on the secrets and maybe I won't whine so much when I do them. Thanks gal!
