check into - your state and what they offer.  Most states now have some sort of plan that depending on your income can either be free or you pay a small amount.  Some states require you have children, some not.  Definitely worth checking into though and see what is available through there.  Usually the only requirement is that you have been without health insurance for a 6 month period prior to application.  Then, depending on your income (and the income limits are not low, so don't assume that) your plan is assigned.
