| Sorry - someone has to do it thoughPosted By: nana on 2007-11-28In Reply to: I need tips for transcribing a lisp - Hello

Am sad for you.  Here goes:
 1.  Let your supervisor know how much you will take and stick to that.
 2.  Do your share of it and try to smile because you have asked for a sample of their work to double check what you think you hear.
 3.  Take a deep breath, take off your shoes and have your coffee ready.
 4.  Forbid anyone in the room to talk or interrupt while you "translate" this.
 5.  If there is more than 30 minutes of it, break it up into chunks with other stuff in between unless you just have to "get it over with."
 6.  Remember that the dictator may be really good at their job so don't judge them by their speech impediment.
 7.  Speed up the dictation if they also stutter because it will help you through all the "air."
 8.  Finally, if they are also ESL to boot, bang your head on the desk a few times and remember at the end of your shift you COULD have a margarita.  If you don't drink or are fearful of those around you thinking you are a psycho when you bang your head, give thought to paying someone else to transcribe it!
I am thinking of you and am with you in spirit!  GO for it and get it over with!
