Otherwise I posted some suggestions about how to break out on your own in another thread on the main board ... why don't you try to get your own clients instead of working for an MTSO.

PS:  If you're in Nebraska, disregard above ... j/k!!  :)

Thanks everyone! I'll check out the sites! :) NM

Good luck

Kinda sorta...
I have received my certificate from completing my transcription course and have been in the medical field for 5 years. From hospital to doctors office to home health care agencies. This should help me quite a bit. I'm confident know that I have gotten this response from you. Thank you very much! I am very excited.
If you saw the first show, it was sorta sad...
she was talking about how she's tired of men just looking at her like a hunk of meat, and that she may have actually let herself "go" so that people might look at her as something more than a body.  She says at 45 she only wants to be at a more healthy weight.  She was actually really sweet.
I'm kinda sorta doing that now.

I work for a national but do acute care stuff, which means I have to be glued to my desk in case I get an "instant message" telling me to type up a stat report.  I have the kind of personality where I NEED a schedule, otherwise I'll just frig around and wind up typing up a days work at the last minute.  I tried it before and it didn't work out so well for me.

I'm not forced to punch in and out for breaks though.  I do take short breaks here and there to rest and get up and walk, but then I'm right back here at the keys.  Some days I even eat while typing, but that's the nature of the beast where I am.  Yeah, sometimes it wears thin like on days when everything aches and no matter how fast I type, there's always a stack of stuff waiting that needed to be done yesterday.  It also sucks when I get asked to type up stuff because some other typist has gone "MIA."  I just get bent because I figure I have to be here during my schedule, why can't they?

Oh well, at least there's an overflowing amount of work, unlike some other companies I read where the people are sitting twiddling their thumbs waiting for stuff to come in.

I'm in the same boat sorta (sm)

I was going to go back to school but realized that by the time I finished another degree (2-3 years) I'd be competing with 25 year olds and I'd be 50.  I love MT, love working at home and am trying to rebuild my client base after some relocations which is hard and expensive.  Meanwhile I have taken some work with a MTSO but it's not enough to pay the bills.

However, I'm not ready to pull the plug yet and work outside the home but if I was, I'd love to be a florist or a photographer, neither of which I have any formal training for, so I stick with MT for now.

Have you checked Yahoo Jobs?  Googled "career interest survey"?  I took one of those and it gave me a range of potential jobs.  How about starting a home-based secretarial service that isn't strictly medical?

What are YOU interested in?  Make a list of things you might like and you might be surprised at what kinds of jobs are available.  Unless you're in a small rural area like I am that is but I'm sure you'll come up with something.  I'd love to hear what you do decide!  :)

Figured it out - sorta

Well for anyone else dealing with this "hot mess" :)

I believe the test file is somehow in review mode instead of transcription mode because the instructions given me by company correspond to review.  But if you just hit the play pedal and tap the backspace pedal at same time, it backspaces incrementally.  I never found out how to program it, but this works for now for testing.

Right, sorta, it sure seems seedy to say you want to do suicide but first go
thinking there is more to this story than what is getting out - personally I think his wife and child were a hit for something he was into.  But that's just a sense I have had since I saw this.  Those were not "anger" killings it didn't seem like - more like HITS.
It seems turning that off sorta turns it into XP. LOL! nm

Yeah, I'm sorta wondering
Once all the jobs are outsourced or illegals are working the jobs that are left, who is going to pay the taxes that keep those congresscritters in business???
I've been wearing a splint that's sorta like a retainer...sm
for years that my orthodontist made for me.  I've had it replaced about every 5 years or so.  It works great!   The funny thing is that I pick at him that when he put me in braces at age 12 he never dreamed that 30 years later I'd STILL be coming to see him.    I do have fun when I go see him because invariably there's some pre-teen or teenager who asks "so how long have you been a patient?" and when I tell them 30 years they look horrified.  Then I explain that I was in braces for 18 months, retainers for a year and then returned for TMJ problems at age 20 and have been in and out every few years since then.  They always give a big sigh of relief then!
independent contractor kinda sorta....nm

Your training sorta like mine as I also thought
with my having worked in doctor's office, hospitals and so on, I would start out in the transcription department, as a newbie, but mind you I thought it would be a breeze. HA! I had to work with my nose in a book (English and medical) for 12 months before I was ever turned loose to "work." Having said that, the background I got was so much more than if I had taken some course at home. I worked for many different specialities because of the training. Worth it.
Thanks for the input, all! I'll hang in there for a while, but will sorta keep my eyes
open for something else too, I think. I'd love to find a mix of clinic and acute.

Thanks again!
Check at a local nursery/garden center for varieties that are bred for your area, then check online

had a similar issue with TWC and they had done some upgrades and the modem I had was no longer compatible.  The tech knew what the problem was the minute he saw the modem, only it took me about 3 months and threatening to cancel for them to get out here.
No brainer here. Stop payment on first check before you issue 2nd check.
:+
I have had a check bounce over a boo-boo in the check book...NOT A DEADBEAT!!

DID you check with Social Security& does your son receive a check???

Go to SSA.gov and research the payee options.  You may have to use the search engine, but your answer to this particular issue should be there.

I am disabled and while my kids were minors, I had to fill out a form each year on how I, as the payee spent each and every penny of the money they received.  I don't see how his mother can justify how she spent his money for things that you normally would pay.

That said, he is getting Social Security right?  Is your son receiving a dependent check?  Under law, if a parent is disabled and has minor children, each and every one of those children also receive a check until they turn 18 or graduate from high school, which ever comes first.

The check is a percentage of your husbands, so for 800.00, your son should receive at least 350.00.  If you have not been getting this, they would pro-rate it back to when your husbands disability started and that in itself, could solve a lot of your financial problems.  You can also find this out on their website,  HTH

no - don't check out wildblue. check out hughesnet. sm
i was on wildblue. i absolutely HATED it. i paid $400 for install and equipment and bill was $51.51 a month for smallest plan. no bills, had to be direct debit from credit card or bank. wasn't a lot faster than dial up and i frequently went over my download limit so i had to upgrade to the $80/mo plan. speed was no faster on their "fastest plan". they had a 1-yr contract and only 1-yr warranty. well 20 days (kid you not) out of warranty my tria (the eye on the dish) went out and it cost me a total of $275 for replacement and tech call (had to wait a week and a half before tech could come and then he no showed and rescheduled for the next day stating he didn't have the equipment he needed to fix me and the repair order had been in for over a week by that time. no call to say he wasn't coming either, just no showed). they TRIED to sell me the entire package all over again to get me locked into another 1-yr contract and i declined. it was best in their book so your warranty and equipment would be "new". i had to tell them for 5 months to change which credit card to debit from, never could get it right. had to tell them for 3 months when my phone number changed. i could not wait until the day my 1-yr contract was over. have heard really good things about hughesnet. i think it is a tad more a month, but supposedly a lot faster than wildblue and not near as many problems from what i have heard from others. wildblue was down for an entire week at one point throughout the year i was on it. always got lost signals and page cannot be found multiple, multiple times throughout the day. i used wildblue with VPN (with transtech) and could not keep a connection enough to get a decent line count as i was dropping signals too much and it did slow it way down. i finally got clinic work rather than acute care where time and speed wasn't a factor. research message boards for complaints about wildblue and hughesnet before deciding. also hughesnet i think told me a 2-yr warranty rather than only the 1-yr with wildblue.
Check the classified board here and check
E-bay.  Some companies will provide them for free or a small rental fee.
It has nothing to do with sites..
Check with your ISP, modem or phone line.

FTP sites...
Does anyone know of any FTP sites that do not have a user fee? I am currently using a software that charges me 0.025 cpl and I find it's a ripoff. I really don't make any money off this software, AND I paid an arm and a leg for this software. Can anyone tell me where I can find an FTP site that does not charge a user fee? TIA.
OB/GYN sites

Can someone tell me of some good OB/GYN sites out there?  For that matter, any good specialty sites.  I'm fairly new to transcription and still gathering good reference sites.

Thanks in advance!

It's right on their Web sites...

Visit this site, read paragraph 2 and notice the word global.  It doesn't appear they are trying to hide anything.

Some different sites here too . .

These help me:

For City/States/Counties:  *HomeTownLocator* --  http://www.hometownlocator.com/

For Orthopedics:  Really great site.  Can use search box or click on any part of the skeleton.  *Wheeless On Line* --  http://www.wheelessonline.com/

For Medical Abbreviations:  Also has a medical dictionary, drug search and medical instrument search, but I just use it for the Abbreviations.  *MediLexicon*   http://www.medilexicon.com/

For Chemotherapy Drugs - *ChemoCare*  http://www.chemocare.com/bio/

For Medical Dictionary - *Dorlands Medical Dictionary* - http://www.mercksource.com/pp/us/cns/cns_hl_dorlands_split.jsp?pg=/ppdocs/us/common/dorlands/dorland/misc/A_TOC.htm

Those are some of what I use all the time.

thanks a lot for these sites
I appreciate you taking the time to give them to me!
But, I can access all other web sites
So, would it really be my Internet Explorer causing the problem???

I use to go to this one web site where I could always log on even during them updating the site but many others could not - some could, some could not. I just have a feeling this may be the same type of thing - something with the website itself or else I would have problems with other websites, wouldn't I? I can access any other website I want but this particular one - wwww.weightwatchers.com

I thought maybe I needed to clean out my cache or whatever as they may have changed something where it keeps using something on my computer that is old/no longer valid in order to access the site but wouldn't everything I have done so far have eliminated a possible problem such as that??? I did not actually go in and delete anything in any cache so I don't know if that may need to be done yet and, if so, I have no idea where to go and/or which one(s) I need to do that with.

Thanks so much for trying to help. I sincerely appreciate it.
Any of you pet lovers seen these sites?

So cute, and so addicting!

Thanks for the sites. I have a question...
I have avoided calling Dell to ask for help with certain issues because I cannot understand them. If I ask them to transfer me to a US office, will they?
cancer sites
I usually use the NIH-National Cancer Institute site. It has listing of clinical trials, types of drugs, different types of cancer treatments. I also depend heavily on the Oncology Word Book by Stedman.
The other sites might as well not exist
They are so self censored that they won't give a company's name, so they might as well not exist. MTStars is the best board on the internet for FREEDOM OF INFORMATION. Posters may say that people are negative on this board, but they are honest and realistic. The other boards are so full of Pollyannas they are virtually worthless -- INCLUDING boards you have to pay by the month.

if they use the BOS on offshore sites.
If so, the AAMT must be making a killing.
I just checked out both of these sites and
there is no rsp.com and the other said the site was under construction. I have heard that VA jobs are the jobs to have, though. Good luck!!
At my clinical sites,...sm
the physicians' handwritten orders are transcribed by the unit clerk into the MAR (medication administration record), or if they are using Meditech they get transcribed into Meditech, again by the unit clerk. Nurses are very savvy on drugs and doses and are expected to question anything that is, well, questionable. A nurse is liable for administering the wrong drug even if the doc ordered it wrong. Both clinical sites I have been at so far were Magnet status - that is a hospital that has undergone extensive credentialing to show superior nursing care. Magnet hospitals have the lowest nurse:patient ratio, which has been directly linked with less deaths and better patient care... just my two cents.
Drug sites

What are some favorite drug sites?  Thanks in advance.
