What are the flashing icons beside the job postings on the Job Seeker's Board?  Are they intended to indicate that the jobs have been filled or still open?  Thank you.

The buzzing accompanies some flashing ad near the bottom of the screen.
You are supposed to zap the mosquito. I have no idea what the product it, and refuse to look at those awful ads. The black and red flashing ones are just like a migraine symptom. I refuse to look at such annoying ads directly, so they sure aren't working on me.
YUCK WAS MOLESTED, YUCK WAS MOLESTD, YUCK WAS MOLESTD
YUCK WAS MOLSESTED, YUCK WAS MOLESTED, YUCK WAS MOLESTED. NOW SHE'S ACTING OUT.
Has anyone tried using a graphics tablet

to use in combination with an Expander using a pen input device?  Just wondering how that works for you and if any recommendations on graphics tablets.

    TIA

    Spinning my wheels? I own

a transcription service and I have for about 15 years and I have been very successful in this business, money wise.  And I also am close to getting my degree that I didn't finish years ago; I'm back in school full time AND running my business.  I wouldn't call that spinning my wheels.

wow, my brain is spinning with this info!

i will go over it and read through again when i have more time.

    thanks for the info!

The wheel's spinning, but the hamster's dead.

LOL. Loved the spinning "ball" on the Selectrics. nm

Some browsers don't support animated graphics very well or
    at all.
Just because you're apparently satisfied with spinning your wheels and
that doesn't mean that if someone younger has more ambition and wants to advance in this profession that she shouldn't be your supervisor.

You said you didn't WANT to be a supervisor, so does that mean that no one should be your supervisor for the rest of your life then unless they're 80 years old?
You can even put graphics in autocorrect. Just click the formatted button.

I was told by Dell today that the only advantage to the upgrade would better graphics . He said it i

it because it also uses a lot of memory.  I decided to go with Windows XP instead.  Dell is offering a free upgrade to Windows Vista if you purchase one of their systems.   They still gave me a free upgrade option, but I doubt I will use it.

    Good Luck.

    I started in 1995

Wasn't even done with schooling yet, but picked up a doctor for $.12 a line, clinic work.

Then went to a hospital in house to get more experience at ? wages (don't remember) and at the same time, picked up my second account for ENT employee w/o benefits for $200 a month (yeah, that's cheap) but it gave me experience.

Family member got sick, had to quit the hospital after 4 months, but they asked me to be the guinea pig for on-line transcribing. It worked and they kept me for 9-1/2 years at $3500 a month (no line rate, MINUTE rate- their choice). I also worked for the ENT service for 5 years and my own doc... well I'm still with him. He forced me to up my rates (yeah, that's right). He yelled at me for not charging more. He is now charged $16.5/65 cpl and he is happy. Huh? Where do you find a doctor like that?

I tried to quit the hospital to go with a national service but the hospital wanted me to stay, so I still worked for them part time for another 2 years. Then I had it with everybody and quit all of them except my own doc. It's been 15 years with him and I don't intend to give him up.

Have I been lucky? You bet!!! I have to say, for all those that don't want to work in house, there are lots of opportunities to go on your own. I got the ENT job and could have had a job with urology, orthopedics, gastroenterology and/or physical therapy had I not been only one person.

I could have stayed an IC but needed medical insurance, so went with the national service. Private medical insurance was absolutely kiling me.

FYI, when a doctor needs a Transcriptionist to do their work, they look to hospital MTs first. All my co-workers at the hospital had jobs on the side.

I used to do books until 1995.

At that time, I charged $3 a page. I had no trouble getting that amount, and most books would be around 200-300 pages. I was a lot faster back then and could crank out a book in a couple days.

After I would type it, I would have the author check everything out and would make changes for an editing charge. If the error was mine, then no charge, but if he wanted changes, I charged editing.

There is a bit of a difference with books (unless it changed now). You would have to follow a manuscript style of writing so the book could go straight to the publishing company without the publishing company setting it up, which would cost the author more bucks.

I had worked for a publishing company that generated university textbooks back in the late 80s and that was really profitable. On those books, I was paid by the character! Sadly, my computer crashed and had to give it up. Computers back then ran around $2500 and there weren't too many gurus around to fix them. It was buy another one or do without. I had to do without since I had young'uns at that time and just couldn't spare the cash.

Hope this helps....and, BTW, if I could get back into this type of work again, I'd jump in really quick, especially the textbooks. You also get "a college education" for free.

I did it years ago (1995) for about 9 months - sm
had quit, moved and gotten married, and new job did not have insurance. Got on my husband's insurance once we were married and dropped the COBRA. I think it is only good fo 18 months. I think I was paying $150 a month for it; I was 30 and it was just me on the policy. Hope this helps.
I am making in 2005 what I earned in 1995

Like you and so many others, I have watched my wages as both an IC and an employee go down, down, down.  I worked for a company owned by an MT.  She paid very good wages but sold the company to an Indian company, who got rid of all the Americans except for a few who would accept very low pay.  It's funny...clients want 100% accuracy but they don't want to pay for it.  They agree that they can't just randomly pluck people off the street to do MT, that they have to hire experienced or trained people.  But they don't want to pay us for our experience or our training.  I am doing my last MT job. I have my bachelor degree almost completed and I'm outta here.  The lack of respect for MTs, from employers, other MTs, from offshore companies, from clients, from AAMT, is so disheartening.

In 1995 I was making 12 cpl for a small, rural

Changes were gradual.  First, we were allowed to start working at home at 12 cpl, instead of the hourly wage.  We still were employees and had the same benefits.  This saved the hospital money in overhead and we were all happy.  Then they started using outsourcing services for holidays and weekends.  Gradually, the whole MT dept was phased out and we had the option of going with the service handling the hospital transcription or finding another job.  The service kept us at this rate of pay for a short time and then gradually started implementing "incentive bonuses" and lowering the line rate of pay.  It evolved over the years to what it is today.  Starting line rates were lower and incentive bonuses done away with.  Health insurance is contingent on production, but their platforms crash regularly (as do many, many others) and we either have to work extra to make up the loss or just eat the financial loss altogether.  The services overhire to make sure that their TAT is met, which means unstable availability of work, which in turn affects production, in turn affecting benefits.

The logic today behind all the changes is the "lack of experienced MTs in the U.S.", thus the need to hire people outside the country, who have even LESS experience with the English language and slang medical terms, at half the price of hiring American MTs.  The MT field in general has to be able to compete and so must lower their rates to keep clients from going offshore at half price.  And now with the advent of VR, the MTSOs using it try to justify the cut in line rate to the fact that we're no longer "typing", we're "just editing."  It's been a gradual evolution, but not in a positive direction.

And in all of this, AAMT has not come to the aid of the transcriptionist.  It has furthered the promotion of offshoring and has developed ways to enhance the MTs adjustment to VR instead of enhancing the MTs value and amount of worked involved in VR.  When the AAMT doesn't step up for the very ones it says it represents, why would the ones using the services respect, understand, or value the MT either?

I have an ollllld Ortho word book circa 1995
that actually isn't too bad! I just got back into ortho and I need to update, but most of the basic anatomy terms don't really change, so I would think 2005 would work fine for you.
    YUCK
I agree. I like it nice and cool. My pocketbook likes it a little warmer. :-)

    yuck...
I eat red meat, pork but mostly chicken.

If you don't want to red meat, that's cool. But, word of warning to you - many begetarians think they are eating heathfully because they cut out meat, but in fact, vegans often have high cholesterol counts because they eat so many dairy foods. They also often fry foods - you would be better off eating an 8 oz steak than eating a couple of batter dripped deep fried cheese stick.

Please watch the fat content of your food.

    Good health to you!
    Yuck/LOL..... what??
Was that one liner in response to my post Yuck????  What???? are you tongue tied Yucky yuck upchuck?????  I didnt ask about your overweight issues Yuck.. .. Sorry that you have them.   Try weight watchers.  I have heard they help.  But Yuck.... who will help you get a personality???? GEEZ  whatever will the Yuckster do????
    Come on now Yuck...

Let it all out Yuck/LOL.  I know you have been showing multiple personalities on here.... but we see through that and we hear your pain Yuckie duckie.  Dont worry, your husband just probably couldnt stand it anymore.... I mean, we've only known you a few short hours and already can't stand you.... So, it's okay.  Some people are only human....  Yuckiity doooo.  I know you can't comprehend that either, but just nod your big head and pretend.... you're good at that.  Now, Yuck, lets talk about the pimples, the flour that you've been rolled in, your need to insult others and chalk it up to having fun..... when did this all start????   How is the bed wetting??  Is it still as frequent???

Yuck - go play in traffic!

Well, there ya go person posting as Yuck.  I got on this forum tonight to check out a company.  When I read the posts on here from you about the administrator of this board and all your other posts in response to other people, I was really taken aback.  Many MTs have posted in response to you, asking you nicely/professionally/maturally to please stop.  You are insulting, demeaning, critical, nasty, rude and very hurtful in your posts.  I was/am outraged and amazed at the things you have said on here.  All my posts to you are what you have put out there to us.  Kind of funny how when someone starts saying nasty (and I didnt even call you any vulgar names like you did) things back to you, being critical and hurtful back to you, you all of a sudden do not have a lot to say.  It doesnt feel real good does it?  What you do in fun can actually be very damaging to someone else.  I am glad that you seem taken aback by my posts to you.  That was the point.  I wish that you would stop and really think about what your words may mean to someone else.  That someone else is a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister.  Have you any of those?  How would you like it if any of your family was treated the way you have treated us tonight?  Especially the admin of this board.  How awful of you to talk that way about this person.  This forum is here as a courtesy to us.  Why are you abusing it?
    Yuck....
I work every single weekend for the next year.  That is my companies policy for newbies...... boo!
    yuck!
I hope you get your old one back...or another good new one!
    Yuck
Why do I have to listen to this doc sucking up his snots through his nose while he is dictating? Can't he just take a break and blow his nose. It's making me sick to my stomach.
    Yuck...
This was my experience a few years ago...Overall, the people were nice but I encountered my first and only QA Nazi there. Right off the bat, she introduced herself as having 30+ years of experience (compared to 14+) for me. That should have been my first red flag because who throws that into their introduction. I certainly did not state my years of experience as part of my introduction. Anyhow, I just chose to ignore it and give it all I had. All of the other QA were so nice and then I got HER.... It was, "you missed a tense" as in past tense such as a discharge summary in which most of it was dictated with past tense i.e. was, did etc. Well, excuse me, I missed one because I just get in the habit sometimes of typing what the physician states instead of correcting everything they say. I felt totally nitpicked and the final straw was when she told me that it was wasting their money having me because I was having to be on QA. EXCUSE ME.. what is QA supposed to be doing but QA-ing the new people. Never in my life has anyone told me that I was wasting their time and money. I was insulted. No, I am not perfect but I also was NOT a newbie and did not feel like I was looking to them for guidance on how to do transcription. So, that being said, I'd have to give them a thumbs down. It's a shame because the manager and the other QA people were quite nice but she had obviously been in the business too long, old and burned out, which ruins it for everyone else.
Yuck, I don't eat red meat, but (sm)

do eat some chicken for more protein.  Also eat lots of fruit with cottage cheese and lots of green, leafy vegetables.  Also, a way to get more protein is nuts, like cashews or almonds and feta cheese with your salads.

For lunch today is pasta with some cheese biscuits with garlic salt, also a green salad with feta cheese.  Melons with cottage cheese for a snack.  No meat at all and I don't miss it!  You get used to it.

    Come on Yuckie Yuck
Dont you have any new, original material?  Your insults are old and boring.  Old, fat, pimply, blah blah.  We've heard it all from you already.  Why don't you take a break and sleep on it.  Maybe in the morning you'll have a better come back.  Maybe you'll wake up and finally find an excuse for yourself, or you can pretend that you actually have a reason to be breathing the air that you breath.  or maybe you can pretend that your are NOT really just a waste of space, a stain on the floor.  A Loooohoooooser.  Come on cheesyball, you're having fun here, right?????  So, whatcha got????
YUCK WAS MOLESTED, YUCK WAS MOLESTED

If that is Yuck's club no thanks
her idea of cool is sitting and popping her pimples all day and then having her husband pop the ones on her fat butt all night.  That is why he left ya know.   Well, one of the reasons anyway.
    I found YUCK...
You know, posting as LOL doesnt fool us Yuck.  We know you are one in the same.  I think it is a Sybil complex.  Listen, I know you have many personalities, but try to keep them all on the same page so that you make sense, okay?  By the way, does daddy like Yuck or LOL better?
    Family. Yuck!
I just don't work with friends or family. Period!

Hey, they are always going to be out there. You live and learn just like we all did.
People actually advertise with "no experience necessary" you too can be an MT!
Oh yuck, I hate that, too.
    a
    doctors.. yuck
Every problem that MTs and MTSOs have is because the CEOs and underlings are so terribly scared to say anything to the doctors... they are SAINTS you know... NOT !!!!! It totally disgusts me... only good thingfor us is that the medical field is where the money is today and we need our jobs so we put up with the bullsh-t.
yuck, i will never like c-phones...sm
No matter what i ever tried, the footpedal with a Cphone is just awful....I wonder why companies still use this antiquated hot mess.
Yuck! I am used to the 90s here but over 95 gets a bit too toasty--keep as cool as you can! - nm

    YUCK'S MOTHER ATE THE DIARRHEA?...nm

The bad thing about YUCK being molested
is that her mother knew all along. Her mother didn't want to be bothered with her dad so she encouraged YUCK's daddy to go pop that young cherry. talk about cherry pickin'. He picked and popped hers every time.
    Question about snakes .. yuck!
I know that this is the time of year the babies are born, but I want to know how to get them out of the flowering bushes in my back yard.  This merry widow stuff is for the birds!!  If someone has a remedy that does not have me putting my hands where he/she is .. I am all for it.  Yesterday as I looked out the window he/she was looking back in at me .. gag!!
