Sports - 1 sport a season. Fall = football for son and volleyball for daughter. sm

In Reply to: Kids schedules outside of school....sm - Southern belle

Their class load and homework is enough; however, the love sports and are great at too. So, I allow one sport per season, meaning Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. Fall = football and volleyball.

Winter = swimming and winter volleyball.

Spring = Lacrosse for both.

Summer = whatever they choose.

They choose what they want and if they choose not to do a sport any particular season, that is fine with me. They do not go out on school nights and their weekend activity is limited due to their sports. It works, and they stay out of trouble and both are on the honor roll.

Too many activities is just too stressful both all. My kids will tell me when they feel burnt and need a day off and I am fine with that. I tell them to stay home that day from practice.

It works for us.

Pushing them to play a sport is not always
"good for them". As a coach's wife I can see why you would say that but come on the world does not revolve around sports in most households!
VR feels like a spectator sport to me,

and if they didn't do it for sport, then you would have to slaughter them too.

School sports
I think it's a sign of maturity that he is ready to concentrate on something else. Be glad he is ending it before he gets hurt. My DH has had to have rotator cuff surgery, cervical spine surgery, and knee surgery, all due to high school and college sports.

I saw a news story this morning about a previously healthy boy in grade school who died after his football practice.

You are very fortunate.
According to Fox Sports today . . .
"Hey, we simply didn't play well enough to win," Hasselbeck said. "We can't blame this loss on the calls out there."

Obviously Hasselbeck has more grace and class than the sore losers on this board.

I went to a sports med doctor and got
a steroid injection - I could not even lift and hold a cup of coffee to my mouth - that's how bad it was bilateral elbows. First shot provided complete relief for about 3 months, and then it returned.  Had second shot, and it has been gone now for years!! Way worth it! Don't waste your time with braces and the like. Just fix it! It sure hurts!
Great sports too
Must add, if you are a sports fan, the Denver professional sports teams are always exciting. One of them (football, hockey, basketball, baseball) is usually on track to have a championship year. Denver itself is also a pretty neat city. Can't emphasize enough the beauty of the state and the outdoor opportunities all times of the year. Skiing is admittedly a rather pricey sport, but there are bargains out there if you look hard enough. Also, I notice when I go back home to the Midwest to visit family how healthy Colorado people seem by comparison. I have heard Colorado people are among the healthiest--because there is no excuse not to get out and be active when you live in such a beautiful state. We raised our kids here and, as Debbb says, it is a great place to do that.
No, parents don't usually sit there through football practices.
Games, yes. Practice, no. Cut the apron strings already. The kid would probably get teased with Mommy on the bench every single day watching him practice. It's just not done when kids hit middle school and high school. Let the coach do his job without parental scrutiny.
High School Sports
I too went through that with my son and his playing baseball.  He was a junior in high school, was offered a full-ride scholarship to college as a pitcher, and just up and quit the sport.  There were so many politics in high school sports, who knows who,  whose kid gets to play because they know the coach, that kind of BS.  I think the kids really feel it and just get tired of it.  My son totally walked away from it, leaving me devastated, but that was his decision.  I cried for him.  Good luck to you!!
Louisiana State University. Not a football fan?

I watched the game and have been a football fan for 40+ years.
excuse-making sore loser like you are.

Again, grow up.
RAMS football, spend time with 10-mo old grandson

Yes, it is opening day for football in St. Louis, fall is right around the corner.

My grandson is at that handful stage, hard to get anything done with him around but I volunteered to babysit while his parents are out Saturday night. Hope to squeeze in a few hours Sat and Sun for work as well.

How about cheerleaders and football players..no..wait..just kidding! nm

Who is Drew Lachey? TV, singer, sports dude?

My kids hated organized sports and groups. They

are both social, happy kids, but enjoy spending their spare time with Lego's, pets and especially reading. My 5th grader reads at an 11th grade reading level and my freshman reads well beyond college level. Both enjoy school very much and are on the Challenge tracks, A's and B's. But I think they have learned how to entertain themselves and enjoy a slower pace because we don't have a T.V. Definitely gears down the speed of life.

My DH thought football shoud be postponed and all stadiums opened for evacuees.

My son loves Monster drinks before football/basketball practice. I think they are nasty.
I don't drink coffee, but I have to have my Coca Cola first thing in the morning and one more halfway through day.  So I guess I am a little dependent on caffeine!
definite dearth of good TV on Sunday. Hafta watch weather, sports

The first season...
comes out on DVD on Valentine's Day. What a great gift that would make! I don't watch much TV myself, but I try to never miss an episode of Grey's Anatomy or House.
i go through it too - hopefully the season where
you live is almost over - thank goodness mine is - hope you feel better soon!
favorite season

Hi

My season is definitely fall.  I am up here in northern Maine and it is so pretty with the leaves changing, etc.  Of course then comes all the snow - and I don't even mind the cold or the snow but since I am getting to be "old and brittle" I am scared of the ice.  However, I really am looking forward to October.

Season 2 out on DVD Aug 30th!

Recap for the first season (sm)
It really is a great show. Love the chemistry on the show between the cast & the story line is never boring. Can't wait until next week!
I have only been at this for about a year so this is my first tax season as an IC..how much SM
income do you have to report as earnings or do you have to report everything? My first job was with a company that was really really hateful. I only made 60-70 dollars from them and then I quit. Do I have to claim that as taxable income or not? I go to H&R block and they charge per form that you turn in...that would bite to pay 100 bucks to claim 60 or 70!!! Thanks for the input!
I think this entire season is going to be -
while he is in the hospital and how the business continues without him.  We won't know if he makes it until the last episode.  Gotta feelin' he won't.  The show will die with him.  -
funny cuz I think this season was....NM

ER t.v. show; is season done?

The last one I saw was the shootout and have not seen any since.  Did I miss one or was that it for the season?  (If I missed one don't tell me what happens.)  Thanks!

I do too, but the season premier was a let down.

Give me any season that the temperature is

75 or below all the time and I love it. I don't like hot weather and can stand the cold much better. After all, I can always put on enough clothes to stay warm but I can't necessarily take off enough (not legally, anyway, LOL) to get cool.

Anyone who would watch this season again would be masochist!

another hint for loney this season

After your little one gets off to school, head for the nearest Mc'D's or Burger King..lot's of nice working guys stop in for breakfast on a regular basis.

My sister actually met her new hubby by doing this and he gathers with his buddies every morning.  He is an awsome guy and of course, working

Height of hurricane season is Aug-Oct. (SM)
A friend booked a FL vacation during September. Told her don't do it.  She still did.  She had to cancel the entire vacation and "could not believe a hurricane hit."  I always told family/friends to never go anywhere in the Atlantic, Gulf, FL, islands during hurricane season but they book it anyway because it's cheaper, then they complain about hurricanes ruined their plans.  DUH!
Monday's season finale
I taped Sunday's show and watched it tonight, and immediately watched tonight's show. I can't believe what Izzie did. I certainly was glad I could buzz thru the boring part about planning the prom so I could get to the important parts. I thought Denny was safe, but not so fast. Very tender how what's-his-name intern picked Izzie up and held her at the end. I'm furious that Meredith and Derek are back at it. She's weird, self-absorbed, childish, ugly, and slutty, so get over her already, Derek! You so don't deserve your wife!

Glad I don't get overly involved in mere TV shows like some people, hehehe.
I agree that it's weak this season...sm
and if Katharine wins I'm going to need a barf bag. I can't imagine she'd sell records to anyone other than the guys who want to look at the picture of a pretty girl. She always looks so stuck-up and stuck on herself and my fiance and I still think that someone in her family line made Simon & Randy apologize to her when they did 3 weeks ago. I hope Taylor wins but doubt I'd buy anything he'd record either.

In order to keep the voting fair they really should make it 1 vote per phone number - that way we'd know who really was liked by the public and not who had the most people using the automated programs to vote hundreds of times for them.
Just stay away from Florida during hurricane season. nm
:)
I was a recap of the first season to bring you up to date.
Another show did that recently too.  Next week starts the new season and yes, she lost the baby (ectopic if I remember correctly).
I watch the season DVDs through Netflix.
If I start watching a series, I really get frustrated when I have to miss, and I cannot be certain I will be able to watch it straight through.  My life is so hectic I am not certain I could watch a whole show without interruption.  I watch the season DVDs through Netflix.  I get to watch them commercial free.  Yes, I watch them later than everyone else, but it is less frustrating for me this way.
I heard they are making 20 shows - 12 for this season - 8 for next and that's it

Yeah and it pretty much stinks so far this season.

The 2-hour season finale is on tonight! nm
