Stedman's Equipment book, but there is new

equipment coming out all the time.  I use the websites for the manufactures, Johnson & Johnson, U.S. Surgical, etc.  I Google things like Ethicon and Mitek.   Equipment is hard too because a lot of the times the whole word may be capitalized, or you think it should be 2 words and it is one word, with various parts capitalized.

When you have to look something up write it in a notebook if you don't have a reference book.  When you have down time go to the various manufacturers websites and read about their products.

Stedman's abbreviations, equipment book, a

drug book like Quick Look or Drake.   I have almost all the Stedman's books.  If you are doing multiple specialities I'd get as many references as you can afford.    Stedman's frequently has discounts and/or free shipping and that is when I add to my library.   I don't always get the newest versions, particularly if I don't use the original reference that much.  I don't get a drug book every year, but about every other year.

There are lots of on-line sources, but not all are reliable and if you are like me sometimes you get on-line to look up a word and 30 minutes later you're still on-line.

Stedman Surgery Book

Will post on equipment board, too.  How would I obtain an overnight delivery of a surgical word book?  I have done some orthopaedic clinic notes for about 6 months and PT for about 5-1/2 years, but am interviewing for an in-house position for an orthopaedic surgery group today, yep, today.  Everyone tells me there will not be much I haven't heard already, but I'm not sure about that.

TIA

4th ed stedman's ortho book
is listed on ebay for 9.99, if anyone is interested.  I have 100% positive feedback rating, so you can bid with confidence.  "judymari"

Stedman's Word Book

I just started my first MT job about a month ago and I could not do without my Stedman's Orthopaedic & Rehab Words book. If in the future I get into something else I would definitely buy another one of these!

Also have Saunders Pharmaceutical Word Book, a Stedman's Medical Dictionary and The AAMT Book of Style - all very useful.

Stedman's Radiology Book
has samples in the back of it too. Good luck. I love radiology and wish I could do it PRN at home.
I had the Stedman's Surg and Equip book
as well, and sold it after a month on E-Bay! There is just no comparison. I believe Stedman's surgical books are divided in 2 parts - naturally the one I had was never any use. The Surgical Word Book is HUGE, and it literally has everything and anything in it, alphabetically or categorically. When I first started MTing 20+ years ago, its all I used as well, and it was tiny then compared to now! It is so much more than surgical words - I mean it, it has nearly everything I ever need to look up. If I don't find it there, I go to Stedman's, and last resort google. Its so worth the investment!
I have a Stedman's Ortho & Rehab book too

I type strictly ortho reports and that book has helped tremendously!! They have other books for other specialties too. They are worth every penny!

If you only bought 1 stedman's word book, what would it be?

Just got a new job (!) and want to take advantage of discount books from my old job (!).  Don't know what specialties I'll be working on, general acute care AFAIK.  The only book I've ever owned is Dorland's dictionary.  I'm leaning towards Medical and Surgical Equipment.... but would be really happy if anyone has any ideas for me, thanks!

And I may just Go Wild and buy two.

Have you tried Stedman's Neurology/Neurosurgery book? sm
I have a third edition(2003) I could sell you cheap ($20 including postage if you live in the continental US). The fourth edition (2006) is the latest. Just e-me if you're interested.
Stedman's Orthopedic & Rehab Words, both on CD and book
With the CD, all you do is highlight the word and click on the icon.
you must own a pathology book. Go to stedman's and order online.

Surgical Word Book (Tessier, NOT Stedman's). nm

Stedman's has a plastic surgery reference book. If

you are just going to be doing plastic surgery you might could get by with that and a drug book.  I use an electronic version of Quick Look and I like that, not sure how different the book might be, but either Quick Look or Drake & Drake are good drug books.

The drug books are updated every year, though I only get a new one about every other year.  I believe the plastic surgery book has been updated within the past year, so should be a good resource.  You can check the classified board here and e-bay and you might be able to find books cheaper, just be sure you are getting the most current edition.  You can go to Stedman's website to verify current edition if needed.

Get a Stedman's Ortho & Rehab word book, . . .
and you can check.  Put them into your word Expander correctly (capped or not), and you won't have to try to remember which tests are and aren't capped.  :)
Gotta get the Stedman's Ortho & Rehab Words. Wheeless encylopedia is a good site to book

Stedman's phrase book vs. Medical Phrase Index? sm
I'm debating between the newest edition of the MPI versus the Stedman's phrase book. Have had experience with the MPI, but not the Stedman's one. Is Stedman's worth it?
Stedman's Med Dictionary and Stedman's Med Spell checker are two different programs. Which on

do you have?  If it is the medical dictionary, as far as I know it is only a reference software and can't be used as a spell checker.

If you have the spell checker, go into Word.  Click on Tools, Options, and then Spelling & Grammar tab.  Then click on the Custom Dictionaries button about half way down the window.  This will open a new window that lists your available dictionaries and one should be checked.  Mine is checked next CUSTOM.DIC (DEFAULT).  There is an ADD button to the right.  If you click it, you will be able to browse for your custom dictionary.

Hope that helps.

I have only used Stedman's. What are some differences in Dorland's and Stedman's?

Quick Look Drug Book (book & CD/ROM)..sm..

Does anyone use both.  I'm definitely getting the CD/ROM and am debating about buying both.  I don't see any reason to have both but there could be something I don't know.

I noticed CD/ROMs are on backorder but they're selling downloadable versions.  I can handle that.

The Sted's Ortho & Rehab Words is probably my most used book and then the Lab Words book. GL! nm

We currently use the Audioworxs system and have it hosted by Gacela Group for our tech support. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions about the system. For more information you might check out the website at www.gacelagroup.com.

Equipment
My doc wanted to go digital so I had him purchase the equipment. If you purchase you are responsible for repairs and such.
IC DO pay for their own equipment, etc.
Poster doesn't say what the situation is but you're wrong to state that you don't pay for your tools to do work--I'm an IC and it's my responsibility to have what I need to do the work.
Example of EMR equipment - what do you think? sm

Does anyone have a doctor who is already using something like this:  http://www.mdtablet.com/demo.asp

I have such mixed feelings about this (EMR).  On one hand, I think the technology is awesome, and I think it makes so much of sense to have our medical info. available electronically (pretty much immediately) instead of a doctor having to request a hard copy and wait for it to be mailed or whatever (like when you change PCP doctors or go to a specialist or whatever).

On the other hand, is every doctor going to be running around with one of these handheld devices in his/her pocket, with all this medical info. on people?  What if they lose it?  How secure and accurate is the info. really?  And of course I won't even go into the effect EMR will have on our jobs as MTs.

BTW, I saw this "MD Tablet" thing in the background when I was watching a story on Nightline.  The story was about how the super rich in America are pretty much oblivious to the state of the economy, and still carry on with their usual lifestyle, spending money lavishly.  No cutbacks for them to worry about.  The one rich guy they were showing is involved in this MD Tablet product. Ever feel like, as MTs, we are sooo on the wrong side of things?  LOL

equipment
Because QAs often have a better equipment.
Not because they know more, they HEAR it better. But not all of them.
The core problem in this profession are crappy dictations and not maintaining their equipment by doctors.
Then why don't you just buy better equipment???nm

Regarding better equipment
Even without better equipment, often when they start listening to your blanks they will be plain as day.

If I have a blank toward the beginning of my report and go back to listen after finishing the report, I will many times understand it as well. There is something about hearing it out of context that makes it understandable.

This isn't always the case, (obviously sometimes it's just plain not understandable), but it happens more than you think.
Equipment
What companies provide equipment?
To all MTs, keep your equipment sm
current, same with software, keep up on today's transcription standards, don't end up like this person above who has stayed comfortable all these years and suddenly needs to find a job.
Help on equipment board please. nm
NM
There is no equipment involved.
I use my own computer. I don't use any of their stuff.
Lightning and Equipment
Had a bolt of lightning melt the components in my Dictaphone several years' ago. Had it plugged into an expensive surge protector. Dictaphone rep said I was very lucky I did not have the headphones on when it struck. Also told me if lightning strikes close enough, no surge protector can handle it.
does anyone have backup equipment?

I have a second computer available, but I'm seriously considering getting a second Dictatphone system. I've already had headsets and foot pedals go on me.

Anyone else?

Back-up equipment
I have a back-up laptop, just in case.  Good thing, too.  Just a couple of months after I got laptop, PC had to go to the shop, lol.  I don't use a call-in system but if I did, I would probably get back-up. I figure if you have the back-up stuff, just in case, you will usually never need it.  If you don't have it, you will wish you did.
Equipment For Lease
Hi! I would be doing part time transcription for two months and would need micro casette transcriber. Does anybody know if there is any company that lease transcription equipment. Thanks in advance.
Lease Equipment
Part-Timer.

Do you need a cassette transcriber. I bought one from ebay that works great. Think it was about $80.00 and never used it. Will sell it to you for the same. Or you can try EBAY.
