Techie

I had a techie guy do that for me. I have since bought a word Expander (PCShorthand for Windows) so that if I change jobs or am working 2 different jobs, my abbreviations go with me. Some people like Instant Text. You can download a 30-day trial of ShortHand to see if you like it. I bought it because it was less expensive than Instant Text, and it works great for me.

Thank you Techie
Wish I had your knowledge of computers. I would love to be an IC but need to learn more about computers first.
well i'm no techie, but
i use Vista and have Nortons 360 -- works like a charm for me; been using it all year. Don't know if that helps or not.
have ya ever lived with a techie?

eaten with a techie? worked with a techie?  have ya ever listened in on the techie's side of the conversation while setting up an MT?

This isn't a problem exclusive to one company.  And the problems techies have aren't all their fault or the company's fault.  Can you imagine being the techie that tries to train the MT that asks if the CD tray is the cup holder?  (yeah, this stuff is real).  It takes a tremendous amount of self discipline not to hang up on a clue-less MT and even if the MT is very computer savvy, that MT's equipment might have unique challenges that take more time than expected.  Image a techie's surprise when after trying to identify a problem, the MT lets out a final piece of information not given before and the techie has to start over from scratch.

Techies are a breed unto themselves and putting personal blame on the techies really is unfair.  I still defend them even if I think they are weird (that's okay, they think I'm weird too).

Give your local techie a hug today

I am not a techie by any means, but I thought WP5.1
I miss it too, but I finally had to accept the fact that I was going to be unemployable in MT if I didn't get used to Word. It hasn't been so bad. Plus I was told that the newer versions of Windows don't support DOS anymore, and you might be SOL if your ole faithful computer permanently crashes and you have to get a new one with XP (someone please correct me if that's untrue). But good luck to you finding your disks...they are probably out there on E-bay. I do feel your pain!
Techie question, please, re keyboard
Cannot recall, or able to find it in documentation, how to program a keyboard key to go to a specific file or function.  I've done it before, just can't remember how I did it.  Thanks, folks.
you may want to try a computer techie for this question
There is a way around it, but I don't know what it is. (sorry). Everything I can think of, like changing the password, etc, would require knowing what the password was originally. If you know someone with knowledge in this area, don't be afraid to ask. Wish I could help more. good luck.
Lately, every week I'm having a techie problem. My latest

is the sound on my computer cuts out for no reason. I just started doing VR this week and the sound disappears. It's not just the program. It's the whole computer. If I reboot, it's back.

I also noticed that, although the work load is heavy, I'm out of work around the same time every day for about an hour or two.  Then I'm okay for the rest of the day.

Please don't tell me it's my computer. I can't afford another one at this time of the year.

Please don't tell me it's my sound card...the computer is only 1-1/2 years old.

I have 512 MB RAM. Do you think this is too little for VR? It never happened when I was doing regular transcribing.

Any ideas?

Thanks,S

Need techie advice about Express Scribe and FTP
OK. So, I set up Express Scribe to automatically import new dictation files from an FTP server. Now it seems there are these strange ".sta" files popping up in my work folder. I assume these are safe to delete? Does this happen for anyone else, and if so, is there a way I can get Express Scribe to stop doing that? Thanks!
