Check your USB drivers. The printer works off the printer driver. The pedal needs a joystick

driver in order to work.  You have to configure your USB port for this.

I called the Emdat help desk and asked
They said they had no idea how to do it.
There is a a button on your speech tool bar called "General Settings" SM
it has a hammer and wrench on the button.  Click that button and you will see in the center of the box that opens up (and slight to the right) "number of spaces after period."  Change that to 2 and click okay.  That should give you two spaces after the period at the end of the sentence.
so wonder what is so comforting about being under our desk and on our foot pedal??
I have gotten a habit now that if i get up in the middle of a job, i write down where i am in the job in case the pedal gets sat on again so i don't have to search trying to find it. i also had a cat who we adopted from being outside that liked to climb up and sit on my shoulder. no problem, comfy for us both til she decided to get down and her way down was right on my keyboard and cat mungo typed.

*silent screaming*  Is there any way to change how far back the voice file goes back when you take your foot off the pedal?  I disabled the pause/play option because I went it to rewide a second or two but not the 10 it is currently doing.  This system is a pain.  I'm hoping it grows on me!

Go to options - date/time and is there.
Look under Settings, I think. Your pedal might be in the wrong port. nm

I have an 80-pound, 3-legged husky under my desk--- keeps messing with the foot pedal! - sm
So I have dog now lying down somewhat quietly but breathing his hot breath on my legs, makes it hard not to laugh hysterically ---- certainly hard to work, but it is funny.
Will fiddling with the pedal settings for Express Scribe screw up

I operate the joystick with my foot if it is on the floor...
If I am reclined, then I can still do it with my feet by placing the controller between both feet and using either to hit the joystick.  I personally do not use rewind or fast forward ( I just use the auto backspace), but you can use the other buttons on the controller as fast forward and rewind.

Quit 10 years ago because I ended up in the
hospital with an asthma attack. If you have asthma, you will not smoke. The way I did it was very short term use of the patch and 13 months of a low dose of Paxil. It kept me from having panic attacks from not having a cigarette. You probably know that there is more nicotine in all brands now than there was ten years ago.
I understand. Been in same boat. I ended up
trying to do the 2 jobs for a few years - IC and employee, and absolutely burned myself out. I sold out and stuck with the employee position. I don't regret it in the big picture, but I sure do miss my freedom. That hurts so much that I am basically dead emotionally regarding my JOB. Its now a job. But I just was not finding the security at IC positions and was afraid. I'm getting older and can't mess around with companies going under and the like. Once I did finally give up the second job as IC, though, it did take away lots of pressure, and I realized how hard I had been working doing the 2 jobs. So, I am an employee and probably safe, but I feel sad. Its a corny comparison, but I feel like one of those wild mustangs who was free, but now is saddle broke and in a corral.............Neigh. All I can say is I wish my parents home schooled me. I ended up sm
getting into a gang from school due to constant peer pressure, failed the 8th grade, got arrested, and deep down inside my heart was always right and conscience telling me no, but when you have kids all around you who are just no good, you seem to get sucked into their ploys....My school years were just absolutely awful.

We didn't move away until it was too late. Moved to another state...I can't really tell you how I survived those high school years, but I can tell you this - it would have been much better for me and my own life had I been pulled from that situation altogether. I have 3 young boys now and I am home-schooling my 4 y.o. (pre-K). We do very little right now, but it may be a door for their future. We have social life at school and with relatives and good friends whom I CAN decide is right for them - when you are at school, we as parents, don't see all that is going on and kids nowadays need that constant supervision (which I lacked) and so I think home schooling CAN BE OF HELP FOR SOME and for others (maybe if they had good self esteem and knew better) can be in public schools.

Public schools nowadays though, are really going straight down the tubes..

PS: I did not read ANY of the other home schooling posts. Just wanted to share my story.

I do have a crockpot in my Goodwill box. I've ended up with 3 of them somehow.

Thanks for the offer.  My mother and maternal grandmother both died of breast CA and I always knew of all the girls in the family I was going to be the one to get it, just didn't think this early.  Haven't had staging yet, but I get yearly mammograms so hopefully they've caught it early enough.

I'm already trying to decide if I'm going to dye my hair that burgundy color that seems to be popular  or if I'm going to get a super short haircut.  I've recently taken up knitting and I've already accumulated a major stash of yarn and I'm making a list of all the things I'm going to make and how I'm going to teach all the other people going through chemo to knit and we'll just have a jolly ole' time knitting and carrying on.  I've been wanting more time to knit.

Hate to tell ya, but some of us Flower Children ended up as
It's narrow-minded to blame any one generation. We Boomers blamed our parents' generation for all the world's problems, as well. I see CEOs from all 3 generations: My parents', the Baby Boomers, AND generations X & Y. GREED comes in all ages, sizes, shapes, and ethnicities.

I DO agree, however, on voting the old timers out of office. Not necessarily because they are OLD, but because too many of them are GREEDY, short-sighted, narrow-minded, and in the case of a certain President, jus' plain DUH-MB!
It sounds like the processes haven't ended yet...sm
Go to Task Manager and the Processes tab and you should see "wc32.exe" and "winword.exe" and if those are still running after you closed Extext, that means the program hasn't completely shut down yet. You can manually force it shutdown by highlighting each of those processes and hit End Task, I believe it is. Click yes when it prompts you to, then you shouldn't get that message about it not responding and the normal.dot message.
A lot of people who grew up without privilege ended up skanks too
Money or lack of money has nothing to do with it. It's whether the person has any value system, lines they will not cross, and standards set for themselves regardless of financial status.
Not sure, but had something similar happen to me to, I ended up changing companies...
The telephone company I had was for unlimited calls, long distance and regional calls. Everything was fine for about 3 months and got a letter where they were disconnecting my service because they said I had used it too much. I called them and stated to them that it wsa for unlimited minutes and they just said sorry, they were discontinuing my service. Luckily I was moving anyway and the new area I moved to has cable. Might check into another telephone service. Good luck.
I know a very large MTSO that lost a LOT of money and ended up

Welcome to my world...I would type a whole page and ended up with 35 lines max. No thanks.
I had to bag it. I couldnt afford to do that. I was averaging $6 an hour. I can make more at McDonalds. So there is obviously a problem.
You are correct on all points-I ended up copy/pasting

This would be just a "regular" 3-pedal pedal and not the Dictaphone pedal. nm

Ditto on Voice Systems. I have a friend who worked for them and ended up being owed .... SM
way more than $1000 when the first company went bankrupt. Also I had applied but decided not to take the job, and the MTSO literally begged me to come to work for them. I'm sure glad I didn't. Maybe this present company they've started will be better, but so far, it doesn't sound like it.
Went to pig roast. Chefs had no idea how to cook pig. Ended up smelling and tasting like garbage.

No joke. I made 12 cpl as an employee at a large teaching hospital. I should mention the ended up
work to an outside service and that is why I'm not with them today, but good paying, employee status jobs are out there, though they are few and far between.  You just have to be patient and be good at what you do.
You can buy just the Start/Stop software w/o the pedal if you're able to use your pedal as a VEC

Bringing up ExpressScribe pedal question again. Does anyone have 9-pin Infinity pedal on a USB?

tia

It's time we all called NJ. I called

They can't provide anything in writing.

Nobody knows anything - keep telling you to call your supervisor.

I smell something worse than New Orleans coming from NJ.

Is there ONE pedal I can buy that will work with ALL platforms? And where do I shop for a pedal?
.
A wave pedal is a foot pedal that connects to either
serial port, game port, or USB depending on the software needed with it.   You have to download the work via the internet and most companies still require high-speed internet, though some allow dial-up or satellite.   A pedal costs about $70, though can find on e-bay cheaper.  You can download ExpressScribe for free to use with the foot pedal unless the company requires a different software program.
My desk...
is 5 inches from my bed - but I hate the long commute!
Go to desk top
Double click MyComputer.
Right click on drive you want to look at and click properties. This will bring up a pie graft of how much used or free space is available.
What's your desk like?
I am in the market for a new desk.  What type of desk do you have, i.e. U-shaped, L-shaped, armoire, etc. and are you comfortable/happy with it?  Any recommendations on where to go to get a good deal?
old desk

I have an old antique desk that was in my grandfather's accounting office.

If I were going to buy a brand new desk, here are some of the things that I would look for.

Space on top of the desk - do you want a lot of stuff on the desk, or just room for the monitor and a cup of coffee.  I have a TV and 3 cat beds on my desk, so large works for me.  I would sit at the desk and check the height of the keyboard tray or the positioning of the keyboard.  Is it too high, too low, if you are seated appropriately, will it work for you.  Does the tray pull out and if so does that bring you too far away from the desk itself to see the monitor?  Is the tray adjustable at all?  If you have arms on your chair, will the arms fit below the desk, or will they bump into things.  Measure the space in your office where the desk is going to go and make sure you have those dimensions with you when you look at any other desk.  Is the monitor position exactly centered in front of the keyboard?  It amazes me when it is not.

Check the drawers.  Do they pull out easily and are they sturdy enough to hold all the stuff that inevitably ends up crammed in them.

Is there a designated space for the CPU?  If so, is it easy to get to the back of it in case you need to plug/unplug peripherals?  That part is important - I worked with one of those big computer desks and it was a PAIN to have to change things or plug things in.  What about spaces for the computer speakers (if you have peripheral speakers.)  Do you plug your headphones directly into the computer or do you plug them into the speakers?  Is the plug easy to get to?  I have to unplug my headphones and put them away every night or else they'll get gnawed on, so ease of plugging them in is important to me.

When it is delivered, will they put it together for you either for free or an extra cost?

I am a HUGE fan of online shopping, but I have to say that this is probably one thing that I would not buy online.  For something this large I would want to be able to see it and sit at it to see if it really works for my needs.

Happy shopping!

I have a desk for that
It is called an AirDesk. I use it in my recliner when my back is bothering me and I can't sit up straight at my desk. Google it and take a look at it. It was a little pricey, but it was well worth it to me. They make a version for laptops and a version for a regular sized desktop PC, which is the one I have.
wav pedal is a foot pedal that plugs into your

computer so you can transcribe wav files.  There are many other formats such as DSS, but they are all digital voice files.

I don't think brand of foot pedal is important, but need to know if it is game port, serial port, or USB and how many pins it has.   The majority of them are made by Infinity in some foreign country, but sold by many companies.

WAV pedal vs. USB port foot pedal

PLEASE HELP! Are wav pedals and USB port foot pedals one in the same?  I've only transcribed from audio tapes, and all this is new to me.  Thank you for your help.

A wav pedal is just a generic term for a pedal used to

play voice files  you have on your computer.   You can get them on the equipment board here, e-bay, or you can Google and get lots of other places.  Some pedals are fairly generic and can play multiple "wav" types, but some only work with certain software.  You can have a serial port connection, a game port connection, or a USB connection.

If you do not already have a job that you need a pedal for I'd suggest waiting because you don't know which kind you will use.  If you need it for testing you can download ExpressScribe for free and use the function keys to test.

I also have a USB foot pedal. Do most companies use the USB pedal or SM

will I need a 9-pin or a 15-pin.  Also, which transcription software for playing back audio files is the best?  I've used one that was a fee download, I think it was called Bytescribe or somethingl ike that.  Does that work for most all files or should I look into purchasing something like Start/Stop or GearPlayer?

Oh and does anyone know where I can get Microsoft Word or Office Suite for a reasonable (I'd say cheap, but cheap usually means bootleg) price?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but it's been a while since I've worked for a national.  Before the hopsital job I'm being laid off from, I worked in the office at a hospital.  So I've been out of the loop so to speak.

Thanks guys.

They chain U to ur desk!

I have them at my desk but no, I don't bring anything
to the living room to work. I've been on my same accounts with each company I work for since I started with them and I know the dictators extremely well.

I have an advantage with Spheris that I don't with MQ in that I can look up past reports by any criteria - by dictator, by patient, etc., to find anything that is a pattern.

The only book I occasionally reference is Tessier's The Surgical Word Book. Other than that, I have many online refences provided by both companies that they specifically want me to use.

I've done this over 20 years and I'm very fortunate -- I just don't have to look many things up anymore. When I do, it is usually a new product - instrument, drug, procedure, treatment, etc. Yesterday, I had to look up "Fansler speculum", which I had never had before. Probably refer to that book maybe 2-3 times a week. Spheris always sends me a new updated word list that includes newest information about every month. MTDesk has some really good references.

I have well over 70 websites that are "favorites" for reference.

When I travel and want to work, I only take The Surgical Word Book with me.

But everyone had ash trays on their desk :)

The cafeteria was a blue haze of cigarette smoke too even though the smokers could smoke at their desks.

The nonsmokers had to go outside to breathe during lunch instead of the smokers going out to smoke.

Now THAT is a change for the better.

My DH was putting together my new desk and he had

gotten to the deep drawer where files go.  He put the frame of the drawer together without putting the bottom of the drawer on.  Fortunately I happened to walking through the room at this point and told him he has to put the bottom in the grooves on one side before he can finishing putting the drawer together.  He tells me that the directions don't say anything about that.  I told him common sense dictates that you have to put the bottom before you put the second side on.   Poor man.  He is very bright, but has zilch common sense.  I'm not very book smart, but have been blessed with my share of common sense and then some, so I guess we made a good couple - LOL.
