It depends on what school you graduated from.
If you graduated from one of the top 3 schools many MTs have a job by the time they get finish the program.  I take it that isn't your case.  You would probably be better off trying to find an in-house job locally until you get some experience.  You can post your resume on the job boards and might get some offers that way.  Be careful though and ask questions as there may be some less than desirable companies trying to take advantage of newbies.
When I graduated high school in 1967, sm
I got a set of matching luggage and a manual typewriter!

I was fortunate to have parents able to afford all tuition, books, and on-campus living expenses. Many graduates don't have what I was blessed to have and need a little help from family and friends.

I'm thinking of going back to school to become a meteorologist when my hands give out....

POLL: Home School vs. Charter School vs. Public School vs. Priv ate School...
Pros and cons of each too. I have two little ones that will be starting school soon and I would like opinions on all. Thanks in advance! :)
That is "web site" in post above. Also, Auto Copy add-on for Firefox will automatically copy
Auto Copy add-on for Firefox AUTOMATICALLY copies what you select (highlight) on a web site to the clipboard.

Then you can paste it in a document.

It just saves the step of right clicking and then clicking on "copy" to put something on the clipboard. Just select it, and it is on the clipboard.

It only works only on web sites-- only copies stuff you select on web sites, i.e. not in other documents.
Print a copy of the form on your printer, fill it out, copy and send it to your computer via fax may
Just a guess. Or print it, fill it out and fax it to her.
How do you copy your SH file to text - do you copy each dictionary separately? nm

    Graduated from....
    Mandarin High School, Jacksonville, FL
not everyone is like this - my kid graduated

Not everyone buys into/bought into the changes you describe.  My kid bought the car with $$ saved/earned when 17.  Outside of that, worked full time/still does and goes to school and expects nothing but to move forward in the life and strives to do so.

And we are not a poor family either - just didn't and don't buy into commercialism of every occasion in this country.

    Graduated from M-TEC
It cost me about $2600 when I graduated in 2001. Right out of school I made excellent, unheard of money by being paid on a gross line. I was able to top out at around 60K after 4 years, increasing steadily each year. I worked about 60 hours a week, as I knew when these accounts went away I would make *regular* money. They did after 4 years. I now make around 28K a year and work 30 hours a week. You may want to stay where you are!!
    I graduated from AHP
Just about 12 years ago I graduated from At-Home Professions and am still doing transcription. I've worked for Medquist for 8 years and worked for a hospital before that. So now you've met a graduate of AHP who is able to do the job. I've learned far more with on-the-job training than I ever did through the program, but just wanted to let you know there are a few of us oddball AHP graduates who are actually productive...
18 here. Graduated and then married
two weeks later, still with the same man 16 years later.
    I graduated in 1989 (sm)
Good to see someone from back home, though!  :)
I graduated CS and do have regrets
The reasons are the same as you have read elsewhere. There are no instructors, but rather an impersonal "grader" that you aren't quite sure you can trust since what might be right one time is wrong the next. There are errors in the material that can make you end up looking like a fool. I had nitroglycerine in my spell check on word for a year before I realized I had added it from a cut and paste report taken out of FOMS and was incorrect. Of course, that is only one example of many. I could go on and on, but I won't. All in all, it is inferior, and I wish I had gone to M-Tec or Andrews so that I could have started out excellently instead of clawing my way there of my own volition.
I do not copy to text. I copy the spf sm
file to a disk and save the whole thing there, update it occasionally.
Both. Graduated from a junior college with sm
medical secretarial degree, but learned 99.9% on the job. Schooling proved to be an invaluable foundation for the years to come.

    worker's comp
Yes you get seen, tell the Doctor/hospital it is a worker's compensation case, they send the bill to the boss, but sometimes the bosses don't like the fact that their premiums may go up because of cases filed against them. This happened to my son, boss made him feel it was his fault for getting hurt on the job, cried about it, then changed his mind and my son told them at the hospital he got hurt on the job but the boss still has not signed the paperwork, so it is now in collection agency and have to straighten out the bill for x-rays and being seen in the ER. My son broke a finger in his left hand, no big deal, but his boss sure made him feel guilty about filing a claim. My son does not work for this company anymore which is a good thing. Of course giving your husband 100.00 is sure way of telling that something is wrong with his boss, maybe too many claims or maybe he is just afraid his premium will go up.
Workers' comp for IC? Where to get?
I am an IC and have just been told I need to have WC Insurance. Where do I get it? Thanks for your help. suzq
Any MTs out there w/Workers' Comp. (sm)
eval transcription experience in Ortho, Neurology and/or Neurosurgery?   How many years' experience do you have, and for which state?  I'm wondering if it's a hard transition for someone with non-Workers' Comp Rad experience to transition to Ortho, etc. in WC.
    Workman's Comp
The company I work for also was audited and they require their IC MTs to have Workman's Comp insurance.  Mine costs around $400.00.  I really like this company, so I bought the insurance.  It is really ridiculous because you have no employees and I had to exclude myself from the insurance policy as well.
    worker's comp
Do not quote me on this, but to my understanding if you are an actual employee and they take taxes out, then yes, worker's comp should cover.  If you are an independent contractor, then no.
I went to career step & graduated 3 yrs ago. I think it prepared me well.

Hey FC girl--I graduated in 1994 at FCHS
    /
I graduated from a local community college. sm
Had my first job before graduation but it was in-house with hourly pay and great benefits. Those are very hard to find anymore. I worked in-house for my first 2 years and then went on maternity leave picking up side work through a company for more income. Realized I was tripling my money going from hourly to production by that time, turned in my notice, and never looked back. Been at home ever since. If at all possible, in the beginning I would recommend to anyone to work inhouse even if it is for a transcription company. The value of having other "ears" is definitely not something to take for granted. I also learned as much as I could while getting that hourly pay as time is money when on production. I have to say I probably would not be near as proficient of an MT today had it not been all those hours learning and having another ear around to help out when stuck.

You bring up a point too though that I haven't really thought about before....With all the transcription being outsourced out of the office, it is only going to get much more difficult for anyone to get those breaks and get the required "experience" as a beginner.
I was a workers' comp historian in a
hand surgeon's office for two years. He and the hand therapist always said that regular breaks from the keyboard were important to prevent overuse injuries. I saw many cases of permanent disability in computer users who overdid it, and it's not worth it.
    Workers' comp can be interesting
depending on the doctor's speciality, but you could get bored very quickly if it's orthopedics. However, you'll never know if they don't send you any work. I would start looking again. Good luck.
    copying macros to other comp

this is for MS word.   copy normal.dot both from template folder and office folder and paste it to new computer at the same respective places, i.e. copied from template would be pasted to template folder of new computer and so on.

    not eligible for worker's comp

unless you are an employee. ICs are not eligible for worker's comp or unemployment. ICs are expected to carry their own private disability - like AFLAC, etc. - like we can afford that.

Hate to be a downer, just didn't want you to get your hopes up on that one. Sorry to hear about your wrist. Not a good way to start the year. I would check with local assistance office.

    IC Workers Comp Ins. Required?
thought i posted this earlier, cant find it, sorry if its redundant.  Im an IC, have been for 8+ years with the same company in MASS.  I live in WV.  I was contacted last week and was told that the company had been audited and all IC's were required to have Workers Comp insurance.  the policy costs $655 a year.  anyone have this same requirement?  I have other insurance, Aetna major medical, additional accidental death and dismemberment, long-term disability through my husband's employer, AEP.  So, is it necessary for me to carry comp ins?
    Workers' comp insurance for IC

Does anyone know if there is a law in NY state that you have to have Workers' comp insurance as an IC?  I was told by one company that you do and they will not hire me until I have the insurance, but I also saw on this website

http://www.ins.state.ny.us/ogco2005/rg050315.htm that you only need insurance if you have employees, which I do not.  They company says that is incorrect.  Anyone have any idea?

    Thanks

    Worker's Comp Reports
Hi everyone...I just started typing worker's compensation reports (initials, fu,supps) as well as EMG/NCV reports and PI. What is the charge in the industry? I am hearing anywhere from $7.00/page to 1.35 per audio minute. Most reports are from 7 minutes to 15 minutes so per the inute does not seem right. Anyone out there type medical/legal reports??

    Thanks :)

    Yeah, comp time!
I used to deliberately work in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep because it was an extra $2 per hour plus production incentive. Those were the days. We also got quarterly bonuses if the hospital transcription stayed within TAT and accuracy was 98% or better.

Worker's Comp can be so complicated, and documentation is everything.....
The other complicated issue with this situation is the fact that many physicians are no longer taking on Worker's Comp cases, in new or well established patients, because of the complicated criteria for correct documentation and the long wait on overdue payment from BWC. In my area, several physicians have thrown in the towel with WC cases and no longer handle them. The patients are referred to Occupational Health Services in most cases, or told to go to Fast Track (ER service) for immediate treatment and documentation that is relevant to the injury. It is good if your family physician does accept WC cases. It is also good that he has decided to return the money to his employer and return to the doctor's office and treat the injury as it is, as a work related injury. In a situation like this, Documentation is everything, so the sooner he gets back to the doctor- the Better! Hope all goes well for him.
Lots of psych, comp & pen reports, sm
Urology, domiciliary notes, general surgery, clinic notes, etc. I didn't think it was too bad at all. I liked the long comp & pen notes myself. The psych ones in particular would be 20-30 minutes of dictation on average for me. Some days I'd get slugged with them, but I certainly didn't get them daily.

I know of a company who is restarting up their mentoring program for newly-graduated MTs. A GREAT
company to work for - I think they are independent contractor status, though not sure about their mentoring program status. At any rate, they are willing to take new grads and help them transition into actually working! The women who owns the company is truly wonderful.  I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to work with her, though I don't at the moment.  The company is Accu-Stat in Wisconsin! Keep that name somewhere on a sticky or something! Really great people, and she did mention that she really wants to restart this program she used to have for newbies!  Blessings to you and good luck! Have fun! Cause it sure can be fun, while having to work, which, of course, is not fun in and of itself, huh?? Oh, to be independently wealthy.  Congrats on your new baby, by the way!!  And that's SO great that your Mom is there for you! You have a good example to follow!
I use Oriental Trading Comp. too, but I am crunched for time since other mom backed out on me! Thank

Yes, it's Independent Medical which are normally work comp related and Looooooong...
    but very interesting.
The cost of running a private school or any school is expensive....
Why do you think public schools are so run down and can't find good teachers?  Because the government and people to not put forth the effort or $$$$ to improve the educational system.
Collision or comp doesn't matter. I called my insurance company
when I was hit by someone. I only had liability but their adjuster made sure I got the best deal out of it. My rates didn't go up either.

i have been through some rough times lately and had to apply for some help. there are signs, big signs, all over our offices saying "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE LEGAL TO GET HELP". so we and our government do give them our benefits whether they are legal here or not. now that is messed up. i am helping to support them so they can take away my jobs and i can't even support my kids and yes i get benefits, wow $75 a month in food stamps which lasts not even a week in a household of 6. don't get me wrong, i am thankful for any help at the moment, but i get penalized for trying to work my tail off and still can't survive.

there was recently an article in our local newspaper where one of our local school districts tried to charge $1000 a year for each illegal student enrolled. it was bulked and the illegals got a lawyer to sue for discrimination. the school district merely stated that they had to HIRE extra teachers that could speak the foreign language just to teach these children and were trying to offset some of the expenses. ridicilous!! so again our taxpayers money is paying to educate illegals as well.

Aw come one give her a break. She said she was sorry and is willing to refund. Give her a chance to

do what is right.  If she fails to do what is right, then go about this in an adult way and not act like such a child.  "you suck"  That is so immature.

She is responding to you and you are eating her alive.  Why would she put herself out there to be treated like this if she didnt mean it.

I am really astonished at how people can act on here.  Would you treat people like this in person?  If you do, I cant imagine you having very many friends.

    Remember we are all "HUMAN."
