I quit too after 10 years. Loved Healthscribe, can't make ends meet with Spheris. NM

    All's well that ends well

I probably wouldn't change anything. I was an MT for 15 years and it was a good ride. The last 5 years or so my salary began sliding until I couldn't make ends meet anymore. About a year ago I left the field to become a dialysis technician and just got accepted into nursing school. I wouldn't change the timing. Everything unfolded the way it was supposed to I guess.

I feel very sad for the loss of a great career. I loved being an MT and I miss it. I just couldn't hang in there anymore. Maybe I would have worked harder on my education while I had the chance. Other than that I don't have any regrets.

    Woo! The Fun Never ENDS!
    My new job. Grrrhhhh.

I like the job, but I'm irritated by Barb, our trainer/mentor/whip master.

She is on me like stink on a skunk.

Wow. I will give her one thing . . . she is right persistent. When she calls me lets it ring seven times until the answering machine picks up. She never leaves a message. Instead, Barb will hang up and re-dial. This morning I answered on the 77th ring. It was all I could stand.

They probably have to do it that way, because I'm certain a few of their new hires have escaped. Long term this is going to turn out to be a good job, but Barbie has to go.

She needs to hop in her little dream car and head on out to Malibu before I push her in the Easy Bake Oven.

    "Ring.... rinnnnggggg..... riiiiiiiiiinnnnggggggggggg"

Spying my ID, I see that would be her now. Swell. Speak of the devil.

    I'm trying to ignore it.

Did you ever see that fly paper that comes in a little tube that you hang from the ceiling to catch flies? This pre-dated the No Pest Strip that hung in a little box that looked like a slice of Velveeta so I'm giving my age away. I really hate fly paper. Invariably, if I come close to it that stuff is attracted to my hair like a magnet. It might catch flies, but it lethal to long hair.

    "Rinnggggg.. ...... riiiinggggggg...... riiiinggggggg"

    Yep. You got it.

Barb again. She never gives up. I suppose she missed the class in fifth grade on telephone etiquette when they said, "if people don't answer, they are not home!"

    "Rinnggggg.. ...... riiiinggggggg...... riiingggggg . . . . .. riiiiiiiiing."

    "Go away Barb."

    "Rinnggggg.. ...... riiiinggggggg...... riiingggggg . . . . .. riiiiiiiiing."

Oh, that does it! I've had enough.

Today, I make sticky hat for Barb.

. . . or maybe, I can get one of those bug zapper things and interface that to my telephone?

    Hmmmm . . . . now there's an idea. Once I get the TeleBug-Barb-Zapper perfected, they can take this transcription job and . . . . .

sure i was. i'm making fun of the people who are making a case for background checks, etc
to do medical transcription at home as if they may do something AWFUL with the info they receive. So if you want an invasion of privacy let's REALLY invade it and make sure fat chicks don't transcribe because they are so busy eating they can't get the work done, they mess up the keyboard with food and if they are provided health insurance they will raise the rates for the company sky high because their health risks are higher than others. Then there are the psychological issues overweight people bring to the table. After we eliminate fat people, we can go on to eliminate diabetic people who may have low blood sugar while typing and go into a spell and type the wrong thing. I could go on and on through the process of elimination. How about prescribed medications that may cloud your thinking? So you take Ambien to sleep but you have an Ambien groggy hangover when you are transcribing? Should they transcribe. How about your teens are on your last nerves and you take a Xanax? Should you be allowed to transcribe?

    I agree. It never ends.

    Yeppers, it never ends. (sm)

They act like they're doing you a huge favor to make $60.00 a day.  Who can get by on that????  I hear ya, I've worked for a company too where I made $3.00 an hour.  And they rant and rave about how good their company is, PULEEZE!  If they were so great they wouldn't be advertising!  If they paid well they wouldn't be advertising!  Wish they'd get the picture!  If they truly paid well and were good to work for we'd all be lined up to work for them!

a whole lot more. Not just the software, equipment, upgrades, etc, but also the tech support, editors, and also trainers needed to introduce new staff to the system. Also time spent while doctors *train* the system. Then, when they ultimately give up and dump it 6 months or a year down the road, and can't get reimbursed for what they wasted on it, that's expensive, too.

Eat less meat or no meat
Lots of beans, tofu shakes, whole-grain cereals, rice and breads, green and other veggies.  Meat is expensive, especially if you're feeding several. Cut back on carbonated drinks, also not good for you..
    meat is not for me
I have been a vegetarian since 1979.  I did it for ethical reasons and because I dont eat anything that had a face.  The smell and look of meat makes me sick to my stomach.
    meat
Not sure about the changes to the factory farming, but the changes most anti-factory farming people want is to get people to eliminate meat from their diet, thus ending the need for these farms. Each person doing their small part, makes a big difference in the long run. I was a big carnivore, cannot believe I am a vegitarian now, still lots and lots of food to eat, a little limited when dining out, but not really, even the restaurants are catering to the vegitarians more and more each day. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

    Meat in your diet?
That is a misconception that we need meat in our diets, we do not need meat at all, there are many other sources of protein out there to substitute for the meat, please go to the many vegitarian sites for more information.
it is not wrong to eat meat

and that comes from God's own word.  It is not unhealthy either, done in moderation. Our ways of growing or cooking the meat may be unhealthy, no doubt esp combined with lack of exercise. and yes, it is wrong to be cruel to animals.  Much of our problem is based on mass production, which is now the 'norm'.  We have all but eliminated the small farms in favor of this mass production.  Small farms don't need to have cesspools of waste, they don't stink and the animals live a natural pleasant life as intended. But when we go to using feedlots, and finish the beef out, for example, with grain, which is unnatural to their digestive system (starting the grain has to be done methodically and gradually or it kills them), we create different physical reactions in the meat which I believe has caused ill health in humans (along with the unnecessary vetting).  Yes, the chicken farms and slaughter houses etc are managed terribly, nasty and mostly with inhumane operations.  How to avoid this and still eat meat?  Seek out those who raise range-fed chickens (a natural environment), or raise beef that are not given growth hormones or unnecessary routine antibiotics. You will never have mad cow disease for example on purely grass-fed beef. These growers are around.  I have a nephew in MO who offers this alternative.  We ourselves used to offer such in the way of chicken -- these "natural farmers" generally struggle to make a living, but if you want healthy meat, want an alternative to mass production, seek them out.

Yuck, I don't eat red meat, but (sm)

do eat some chicken for more protein.  Also eat lots of fruit with cottage cheese and lots of green, leafy vegetables.  Also, a way to get more protein is nuts, like cashews or almonds and feta cheese with your salads.

For lunch today is pasta with some cheese biscuits with garlic salt, also a green salad with feta cheese.  Melons with cottage cheese for a snack.  No meat at all and I don't miss it!  You get used to it.

    meat loaf
Next time you make meat loaf, make it your regular way, put half mixture in loaf pan, take a can of green chilies....put pieces of pepper-jack cheese in each chile and close them. Add top layer of mixture, cook as you usually do. You'll love it!
And, the meat in the grocery store comes
I believe that if you buy "beef" it comes from cows, an animal. I believe if you buy "chicken" it comes from chickens, an animal.
first was no meat, then vegetarian, now trying vegan...
although, I am not obsessive about it all...

no animal has to suffer for me.

I do have to cook meat for my boyfriend, but as I said I am not a fanatic. I try to buy local meat and use chickens (and eggs) that are not from electric cages, or that have not been fed steroids, antibiotics, etc.
    Imitation crab meat.
    I know, I know - yuck, but hey, I'm a guy. I don't know how to cook!
For home things and general odds and ends Target

For groceries Super Walmart. I get my makeup and some hair necessities on-line from specialty websites.  For incidentals, impulse buys like clothes, purses, general fun junque, etc. I like street-side vendors, specialty shops, and some of my favorite chain stores like Kohl's (which I can't live without)!

Yep, small TV on cable news, VERY low. Just in case the worlds ends,

ditto. too much water boils the meat.
    read recipes for crock pots.
I'm a vegetarian so not buying meat saves,
but also, the more *fixed* food is, the more expensive it is - for example, if I want soup, I buy the ingredients and make it myself, plus it tastes better and isn't loaded with garbage I don't need like salt and fat.

I don't buy extras - candles have been out for a long time - I have a few in case of power failure, but nothing fancy. I don't have a cell phone, or anything other than basic TV. I buy clothes at thrift stores (which is actually a lot of fun), and I never hang out at malls - impulse buying is out.

Get an extra plastic bottle and pour half your shampoo into it, then fill with water. Most people use way too much shampoo, conditioner, etc - dilute w/water - does the same job and lasts way longer.

If you will search around the web with Google, you can come up with hundreds of ways to save money - most of us buy stuff we don't need simply because we are lazy or we think our every desire needs to be gratified.

It's mostly just excess baggage; it is amazing how good it feels to not need *stuff* to feel good.

the potpourri idea is fabulous!!, plus don't forget the wonderful scent of herbs you can grow yourself to mix with the cinnamon, etc.

    Good luck and have fun!

Remebering my childhood as an animal eater, I think it is harder cooking for meat eaters and way more expensive than vegetarian foods.

Please don't flame me, but I'm glad somebody eats meat. That's how my husband supports us,

But as the MTSO it is not your business to know what I am doing with my time unless I am not meeting the deadline.  I have a deadline to meet with all of my clients, but I certainly do not report to my clients my daily goings on in my life as it is none of their business.  As an independent contractor, the MTSO cannot set my hours.  Punching a time clock is for employees not independent contractors.
How many here would like to meet?

Let's start with a few southern places and see how many would actually meet in spring next year:

    1)  Memphis, Tennessee

    2)  St. Louis, Missouri

    3)  Kansas City, Missouri

    4)  Atlanta, Georgia

    5)  Dallas, Texas

Anyone interested in getting a group in for 2-3 days in any of those places next spring?

not a good idea.  What if that report is recorded off and the hospital/office needs access to it right away?  If she is off somewhere with it on a tape, that could be a huge problem.

IC doesn't mean you can do whatever you want to do!  And if recording makes the sound quality such that you cannot produce an accurate report, then I would think that would be unacceptable.
